I am a 34 year old man and I've been crocheting since my grandmother made me learn around aged 7. I was just looking for something new that was simple and I could get done within a day, but looked better than just a single or double all the way through. I have to say this pattern is SO BEAUTIFUL and SO EASY! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this tutorial Jo To The World!!! You have a new subscriber in me!

i made this Beautiful Scarf for a Family Friend as a Christmas Gift in the color of Navy Blue. They Love the Scarf! Thank You for such a Simple and Beautiful Pattern and Tutorial. I will definitely be making it again and again. 💙
I wish you would show how to count the stitches after the first and or second row. I like how you showed the back loop using the darning needle as a pointer. Same could be applied to counting stitches. Thank you for a nice video. I like the pace.
I really wish I could help but I've only designed, made and tested this pattern with the yarn weight and hook size listed in the pattern and I wouldn't want to give you inaccurate information. I think it would be fine not work in the back ridge loop but I can't say with complete certainty
Hello! You could try a few more rows to see if grows any more. At that point, if you are not happy with the width, you can start again with a different number of starting chains. Instructions for adjusting the size are included in the pattern: jototheworld.com/simple-scarf-crochet-pattern
Hello! There's lots of different ways to crochet a scarf and the number of stitches depends on many factors such as how wide you want to make the scarf, whether you are making it width-wise or length-wise, which stitches you are using, what yarn weight and hook size you are using and many other factors. As a beginner, I would recommend starting with a pattern and following the instructions for how many stitches to make. Hope this helps.
Hello! If you finish your chain with a sc, when you start the next row and follow the instructions in the pattern, the stitches won't be aligned properly (you are supposed to work a sc into a dc and a dc into a sc). I would recommend counting your stitches from the start. You will make 21 starting chains. For Row 1, you will start the row by working into the second chain from the hook and skip the chain that is attached to the hook. This means there is an even number of chains to work into. You start in the second chain from the hook and sc. Then in the next chain, dc. You continue alternating: sc in the next ch, dc in the next ch, all the way across the row. At the end of the row, you will have a total of 20 stitches. For the second row, you will ch 1 and turn. There are now 20 stitches to work into. In the first st, sc. In the next st, dc. And repeat sc in the next st, dc in the next st, across the row. Because there is an even number of stitches in the row, you should end the row with a dc. I hope this helps!
Hi there! Here's how to do a single crochet (sc) stitch: insert your hook into the designated stitch. Yarn over and pull through a loop (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull the yarn through the two loops on your hook. Here's how to do a double crochet (dc) stitch: yarn over and insert your hook into the designated stitch. Yarn over and pull through a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook - not the loop closest to you (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull the yarn through the two loops on your hook. Hope this helps!
Thank you! All the details including the amount of yarn required can be found here: jototheworld.com/simple-scarf-crochet-pattern Hope you enjoy making it!
You only work in the back ridge loops when working in the chain stitches on Row 1. For Row 2 and on, you will crochet normally into the tops of stitches. Hope this helps.
Hi, first time at your channel 😊 And thanks God, you respond to queries. I'm a newbie to crochet. Yesterday I tried to crochet my first scarf, just the basic, 1 single crochet 🎉🎉 I will need to celebrate this. I have 2 queries if I may have your help. Is it better to use a plastic or a metal hook? And another question, I noticed that the result is a bit stiff, though the yarn is very soft. Is this how crochet should be? Thank you.
Hello! Thanks for your message and congratulations on learning crochet! The type of crochet hook shouldn’t make too much of a difference in your actual work. I personally prefer aluminum hooks. As for crochet being thick, it all depends on the stitch, the hook size and yarn weight. Some patterns create a soft, flowing items and others create a thick, stiff item. Happy crocheting!
Thank you very much for your response. Could you please recommend any of your tutorials for a beginner to crochet a stitch pattern which gives a soft result to the project? Thank you for your time and help.
My pleasure! Sure thing. If you are making just single crochet stitches, you will find those to be quite stiff. This scarf pattern (which combines sc and dc) should be softer. You could also try my Simple Baby Blanket, which uses this same stitch combination but with a size 3 (light) yarn and is even softer and flows more: jototheworld.com/simple-baby-blanket-crochet-pattern
All the details can be found here: jototheworld.com/simple-scarf-crochet-pattern All my patterns are designed and tested with the yarn weight and hook that is listed in the pattern. You are welcome to try something else but the size, overall look and feel of your finished item as well as the amount of yarn required may be different. Unfortunately I can’t tell you what hook size to use for a different weight as I’ve only designed, made and tested this pattern with the yarn weight listed in the pattern.
Hi there! After you’ve reached your desired height, at the end of the last row, fasten off (meaning to cut the yarn and pull the end through the loop that was on your hook) and weave in loose ends. Hope this helps.
Hi there! For Row 1, you will be working into the chain stitches. For Row 2 and on, you will be working normally into the tops of stitches. Here’s the written pattern in case it’s easier to read: jototheworld.com/simple-scarf-crochet-pattern
Thanks. Very helpful. But I don't understand how the ties are "opposite ". Re double crochet - single because each row begins with single and ends in double, mine turns out being double top of double.

Thank you! It’s called the Lemon Peel stitch, which I use in a lot of patterns on my site :)
Hey im trying crotching for the first time ever i only have 4-5 days can i finsih it?? Please prayyyyyyy that it comes out really goodddddd
It works up quite quickly! Good luck!
I just started this with a chunky yarn. How important is going in the back bump? I'm having difficulty with it.

Hi 👋 I started over with a much looser chain. That's helped. This pattern is easy. The kind that I can do with the TV on. Thanks 😊
Wonderful! I'm so glad you find it easy. Happy crocheting!
I am currently making this scarf and on after round 2 it is only 5 inches long (I made 20 stitches) should I trust the process or add more stitches?

Any idea on how long this project took? I'm looking at a last minute gift addition! Super cute! :)
It actually works up really quickly!
I would estimate 8ish hours for a medium speed to complete
It took me around 7 hours and it's beautiful. Although if you're a beginner I would say 7-10 hours.

Hey, thanks for the pattern i'm making one for my mom's birthday !❤️
I just wanted to ask how many balls of yarn did you use?

If you stray too far away from the recommended size hook on the label, it can result stiff and dense. Unless that's what you want.😅
Are you going in the back loop only on every row or only on the first row?
You just work into the back ridge loop when working into the chain stitches on the first row. After that, crochet normally into the tops of stitches.
Can i use super bulky yarn whats the weight your yarn
