I only ended up here because I just started playing Secret Of Mana remake which is great so I'm on the hunt for other good JRPG's. This is a great video, well presented and informative. Liked and subbed, thanks.
love your comment about Fantasian.. yes I also think it's gonna be an awesome game but I may want to wait a bit and see if it goes cheaper in the next few months.. Not because I can't afford it now, but I have so many games in line at the moment
For 2024, I did pick up and play Class of Heroes myself though really only got around to beating the first game. It's basically just a much lighter Wizardry game with a lot of the same mechanics and restrictions. Story is a little basic but the characters are fun and the window to make a completely broken team is fairly large. Played through Dungeon Travellers 1 fairly early on in the year and am currently playing through Tokyo Clanpool, both are quite fun despite a lot of people boycotting the latter due to the devs needing to remove the touch mini game (though the complaints were mostly about how it was never mentioned until the game was already released). Dream Tactics which reminds me of Rad Codex Tactical games, all in all just a cute and fun 4 vs many tactical game with a small random element of building a spell deck for each character, mixing and matching various ones ones together. And otherwise have Visions of Mana lined up before the year closes out. As for the other games, eh... the higher price for a lot of them turn me off from wanting to get them unless its something i want to play immediately. Basically when i have the choice on steam to buy 1 AA/AAA game for 60-80$, or 4-5 10-20$ indie games that may or may not have me hooked playing for longer has me going for those instead. Even games like Fantasian, yes its a high profile game with its directors, but 70$ CAD for a mobile game port just isn't that appealing.
I was one of the backers of EC: HH and I do not regret it one bit. It is not a perfect game and many of its flaws are basically related to oldschool RPG styles, but I do not begrudge the team their nostalgia in design. I hope the next game will offer a few modern touches but overall I am very happy with the game. While not better than my favorites in the Suikoden series, it could probably rank third overall.
This year I started playing SaGa and Mana and became a huge fan of both franchises, and I mean it, from SaGa I played Scarlet, Emerald and Romancing 2 remake in the other hand from Mana I played Visions, Trials remake and Secret Remake, the only one I didn’t enjoy was Secret remake but the others I enjoyed a lot. Talking about my GOTY is also Unicorn Overlord the only one besides SaGa games I replayed this year, and loving every second of it. Atlus this year imo released a lot of great games, if I didn’t played P3 and SMT V in the past probably one of them will be my GOTY, and Metaphor is not different enough to Persona and SMT to me but the game is so damn good.
Dude I love metaphor so much. But I am annoyed right now bc I’m at the end of the game and I have to way 25 more days for the final battle with Louis. I kinda want to hunt bounties but some of the dungeons are super tedious and boring so all I can really do is keep sleeping until the final fight comes up. It’s kinda dumb
they definitely did that to make sure everyone could get all the follower ranks, which is nice, but that last month is a loooong time. if there is the traditional Atlus updated version, I hope they have a "fast forward to end of the month" option for the last month tbh
I can't support Vanillaware in any way for their stupid refusal to release their games on PC. George Kamitani might be talented, but he's an old boomer
Thanks for watching!

To be honest, the protagonist of Metaphor not looking like a fantasy character...almost makes sense in context? If you know, you know...

This was well done, subbed.

Well...I hope you find it soon

Great games here, and solid delivery on your takes.

100% agree when you said SMTV, Xenoblade games & Octopath Traveler 2 are the best this gen. Ys 8 is another great one too 👍🏼
What are the games on the thumbnail?
The middle one i believe is unicorn overlord
The right might be romancing saga 2 revenge of the seven, ninja character
The one on the left is the only one I don’t recognize
I appreciate mentioning the price of games.
On recent days, I haven't really seen a game worth 50$ or more.

Metaphor is the ATLUS 35th anniversary game so it better not be too different from the games that made them famous. Lol
You should play the original versions of Secret and Trials via the Mana Collection. The SoM remake did the original game unfairly.
Personally, my JRPG of the year would be Fantasian: Neo Dimension, but Unicorn Overlord and Metaphor: ReFantazio are also quite good too.

Metaphor was so good but I tried SMT 5 and I did not like it at all.
eh? I have been playing MH since tri and relink doesn't have anything in common with MH, that's nonsense.
