It lives! Nothing beats that first successful start after a rebuild to put the biggest smile on your face. Well done Kelly. What's the next project?

That's my favorite part Jim, the initial engine startup after a complete rebuild. We have a few things to wrap up on the YL1 then we're moving on to a 1971 Honda Sl125.
When I'm all done with a project it's a bit anti-climatic as the fun for me is the journey rather than the destiantion.
Thank you for the kind comments, I appreciate it!

Wow, brilliant, fantastic and very well done. Think once you'd cleaned up the excess oil and made your few adjustments, it sounded great. There actually wasn't that much smoke I didn't think anyway.
Please forgive me as I hate to be critical, but the rear tyre (tire US spelling!) isn't mounted correctly.
I guess you hadn't spotted it, but the part of the video taken from behind when you were checking the gears, you can see the problem (about 14 minutes in) You can see that the rim is absolutely spot on.
But absolutely brilliant and so very rewarding. Brilliant job Kelly

It didn't smoke as much as I was expecting, but I know the oil pump is adjusted and working so that's all all that matters. Could you be more specific regarding the rear tire, Jono? In the meantime, I'll go take a look at the video to see if I can spot what you are referring to.
      Thanks for the comments!

@@kwrightway Hi Kelly, if you spin the rear wheel, you see that it's running a long way out of true. I'm pretty sure the tyre isn't seated properly. Don't think you noticed as you were busy concentrating on other things.
You can certainly see that the rim is absolutely spot on, as usually when you find this, the problem isn't with the tyre - it's a buckled rim.
Sure it'll be an easy fix for you.
I am interested to know how you get on painting the tank after chroming.
I shall certainly continue to follow you, as I have very much enjoyed watching your work and have learned quite a bit.
I have been busy, have recently done a little Yamaha 2010 YBR 125, to an okay standard, and have just sold it today. Would you believe I'm still working on the Gilera moped. It's been a mare trying to solve all the issues. Today I have just ordered a new stator for it. It has a rather weird charging / electrical system. I only had 4 to 5 volts on the lighting and electrical choke side, I thought it was the regulator, but now have discovered that there are three windings in the stator, of which one does this side of things, another charges the battery and another provides power for the ignition system. The winding which provides power to the lighting circuit and choke seems like it's faulty.
Luckliy a new stator was only £37 (approx $50) so not the end of the world. Would have been very expensive if it had been Japanese!
I also had a mare sorting out a fuel issue. It uses a vacuum tap and a vacuum / positive pressure fuel pump. I think it may be a common problem, in that although the tap opened when trying to start, not sufficiently to keep it open when the pump starting sucking fuel through. Took me a full day, with petrol everywhere and getting and more frustrated. The solution was to change the vacuum tap for a permanently open connection and fit a manual tap elsewhere along the supply to the carb'.
Anyway, will post a video when I finally get it sorted.
      Thanks for everything. Cheers Jono

Thanks for the info on the rear wheel... as you said, I'm confident the wheel is true, so it must be the tire. I'll dig into this when I get a moment. The fuel tank paint is done, you'll see it in an upcoming video. It really wasn't an issue, proper prep work, i.e., scuffing, careful masking to lay out the lines and shoot away.
Sounds like you've had your own hands full, lately! Thanks for sharing, interesting stuff...
