My Dad bought me a new 65 like this in red. I was barely 15 years old and it was a dream! Sixty to sixty-five mph was no problem and down some hills eighty! I Could stand on my left foot and gun it and hop, lean and the bike would would cut a counter clockwise donut on gravel, asphalt or some concrete surfaces. Man I miss her still after 51 years!

Back in the day, gas stations would close for the night and we would go and dump the hose worth of fuel into our tanks and ride for another hour LOL

One of these a Yamaha 80 will pop up on my TH-cam page. I had one in the mid-60's and it was perfect for driving as a college student. My roommate had a Kawasaki or Honda 100 (can't remember exactly who made it but it was the 100).

My dad brought one of these back from Japan for me in the mid 60s. It was a Twin Jet 90, the Japanese version.. Great bike.

I owned one of these in 1969, my first Yamaha. Mine had clip ons and a full fairing. Saw 82mph on the flat!!! Terrific little machine. Owned six more Yamahas since then. The two strokes were way the best. My RD 400 cafe racer would see off most bigger bikes, especially through the corners.

thats weird, considering they only had a 50mph top speed.

Me too! My first bike. I could do 65 if I drafted right behind a semi on the expressway, lol One of the dumber things I've ever done. Loved the twin pipes. Most everybody else rode Honda 90s. Did you carry plugs with you to change when they fouled? Best!

A buddy of mine just bought one of these in way nicer condition for a whopping $300 bucks. Here at the Voc/Tech center in Maine where I teach the Outdoor Powersports program(motorcycle-ATV-snowmobile), the students have cleaned the carbs, installed new pistons and rings and freeing up an improperly wound kick start spring. Should have it running next week after we set the points/ignition timing. Ya, they are rare, but this one is THE HOLY GRAIL

The Twinjet 100, Blue, was my very first motorcycle....Listen to this, talking about being a dumb-ass....All my friends had a Yamaha 60....And that's just what I wanted too...I had my heart set on a Yamaha 60....When my parents came home with this other bike a Twinjet 100, I acted happy and thanked them but later when one of my friends came over....I started complaining to him that I didn't get what I was hoping for...He said, please tell me you're joking...What you have here is an up-grade...He said, I'll tread with you right now...He said, I just have a few miles on my bike....I got the message then....And he was right too...I was 10 and riding around on a fine little motorcycle...It looked just like the bigger bikes and it was fast too...I remember when we first got our bikes the state didn't have a helmet law....But in a year the police were pulling us over saying don't let me see you again without a helmet and tags....My next bike was a Yamaha Big Bear Scrambler 305....The exhaust pipes turned up and went straight back on either side of the tags....It was a sharp looking bike...I still believe in anything with Yamaha on it.

Actually, the holy grail would be the 250 in64. It was fast and the first bike to have oil injection. They said they were 25 horsepower and they had a 5 speed. They flew in a straight line but you couldn't turn or stop.

ClassicCars never taken mine to full potential, but that's because mine is unlicenced and in poor condition when we found it. Restitched the seat, cleaned out the entire frame, bought a new oil line, and cleaned the whole thing up. I got an easy 55 mph on pavement. Don't know for sure the max speed but I believe it has 4 gears and an overdrive. Oh, and it screams! The acceleration is spectacular to the point you should lean forward when really juicing it in first. It wants to run. Plus it draws a lot of looks because it sounds like a swarm of bees.
