50$ is a lot for a tent site, but looks like a really awesome spot. I could see myself spending a few nights there with those views. I always try 2wd first as well, sometimes more than once cuz I’m stubborn.
I thought $50 was pretty steep for not a lot of amenities. The lake was about a 1/4 mile walk, and was beautiful. The 2wd thing must be a guy thing 🤣. Thanks for watching!
My friends and I just got home from five days of camping on the southern Big Sur coast. No offroading, the Los Padres National forest is still closed down there from last winters damage. HWY 1 is still closed to north/south thru traffic due to a huge landslide. We circled around and drove up HWY 1 from the south. It was so nice and quiet down there mid week. Campgrounds almost empty, nobody at the beach.
Wow those rocks at the waterfalls were definitely a highlight. And the train cars were neat. The campsite at the lake was beautiful. The view of the trees on the other side of the water was so picturesque. I could see myself filming lots of stuff there. 👍
Look into the Chinese diesel heater option for your RTT. They can be had for about $130, use very little diesel (you would need a separate 12v source for power). Best of all it creates dry heat, so no to little condensation even in a tent. There are dozens of vids out there with a lot of insight. BTW, love the content. We're from the central coast and go overland camping as much as we can with the whole family. Friends of us live up in Anderson, so we love Mt.Lassen for it's ease of access for disbursed camping.
We actually have a diesel heater that works great for cold weather and condensation. When I checked the weather forecast ahead of time it looked like it wouldn't be necessary, but man do we wish we'd had it with us! We have such a limited amount of space in the Comanche that we have to pick and choose what gear we bring on any given trip. The Lassen area is beautiful, and not to far from home for us. We love exploring that area. Thanks for watching and for the info!
Hi there, coming here from a shout out by Craig Koppel in his latest video New here so greetings from Mike at that place In in Northern CA but have not been to Mount Shasta so movitved by you video to get there Can't do the back roads like you but that train car hotel in Dunsmire sounded better than the formal campground Weather at the lakes looks good Great truck set up. Cheers and like 🤠👍 See ya next time
We opted for the lake where we stayed the night, because there was some confusion online as to wether Tamarack lake allowed camping and if the roads were closed and marked private property. I saw pictures though and it looked beautiful!
Hey, enjoy your videos. Where do I find information on The last 2 videos you did to hat Creek and shasta area to Trinity Lake. Other words, where do I get route information?
You can get the routes at www.overlandtrailguides.com/ We used the California Crest Trail segment 3 and the Shasta -Trinity Backcountry Discovery Trail. They have trip information and points of interest as well. Thank you for watching!
We really enjoy your channel, the places you go and do, we also enjoy, backroad travels and good whiskey. I would like to know what you think of the Patagonia tires you are running. Our YJ will be needing some new tires next year. The Goodyear Wranglers have worked well, but if there is a better option, I am all for it
Thank you for the nice comment. The Patagonias have been holding up well. We have never had a flat despite driving on roads consisting of sharp rocks. They are getting some cupping, I was just rotating them front to back and think I should have been criss crossing them. They seem like a good compromise between an AT and a real mud tire. They have been redesigned since we bought ours and are supposed to be improved, but are also quite a bit more expensive. The General Grabber AT's on our XJ got a puncture on the first dirt road that we drove on. Hopefully it was a fluke. Thanks for watching!
Another awesome video Heather.
Thank you!
That lakeside camp spot! 😍

The second attempt was also in 2wd. 😁 We did use low range but never locked the hubs.
What a beautiful waterfall! Another well made video Heather and Trey!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍

That sounds nice. We did a highway 1 road trip a few years ago and loved it. We always prefer campgrounds in the off season!

Thanks! Burney Falls are beautiful! I really like the train resort and I'd love to stay there sometime.
That walk behind waterfall looks amazing! Cool trip.
It's really cool when you can go behind a waterfall. Great stop for sure. Thanks for watching!
Another beautiful place to explore!
Very enjoyable! Thanks for watching.
I can see why that campground is $50 a night! What a view!!
The lake was like a 1/4 mile walk from our campsite. It was a nice lake, but dang, $50?
Absolutely beautiful out there!
Shasta area is gorgeous. I wish we had better views of the mountain when we were so close to it.

great video, thanks for sharing your trip. you guys are starting to sell me on that little propane fire box, makes sense in the west!
Thank you! The small fire box has served us well. Best of all, no smoke 😉
Looks like a great trip!
It was, thanks for watching!

Great video.
Thank you!
Very entertaining!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Love your videos. While you were at Shasta did you go to Tamarack Lake? It's gorgeous there, and twin lakes.
We opted for the lake where we stayed the night, because there was some confusion online as to wether Tamarack lake allowed camping and if the roads were closed and marked private property. I saw pictures though and it looked beautiful!
Nice!
