I absolutely love mine. Boyd stock, McCarbo trigger spring kit, VQ hammer and extractor and EGW 20 MOA mount. Just upgraded the barrel from a standard profile barrel to a factory TVP heavy barrel. Had to have my gunsmith take off a little of the barrel to fit the receiver. Swampfox Patriot 4-16X44 FFP scope. Tack driver.

I walked into Walmart one day around 2011, saw a Remington 597 in the display case with iron sights, I don’t remember how much it was, $197 or something like that, I was wanting a ATV gun, one to thrash around and not care about. I took it home, I torcher tested it, I threw it in the creek, fired it under 2ft of water, fired it above water, threw it in the mud a bit, shot it some more and washed it back off in the creek, shot it a bit with a rest and was really surprised how accurate it was. I thought it was gonna be a piece of crap and just good for a ATV gun but actually liked it.
Just this year, I bought a DMZ scope mount, the medium on, and put a bushnell banner dusk dawn scope on it and I’m gonna start shooting it again. I stopped shooting everything when the ammo shortages hit and ammo went crazy, now ammo is coming down and I’m buying more guns again and shooting more.
Despite what I put mine through it’s in pretty good shape, not rusted out, I cleaned it real good after it went into the water 12 years ago. Mine is camo.
I was super bummed to find out how hard magazines are to get for it now, I wanted but never bought one of those 30rd mags and now they are nonexistent.
Conclusion, it’s been a great little .22 for me, its been my go to .22 for varmints, I don’t think I have hunted with it. I put a little money in to it to keep it as my primary .22 and not buy something like a 10/22. It’s exceeded all my expectations I had for it. I don’t remember it jamming, at least it’s not been a problem if it has jammed. I remember shooting it under water and stuff, it worked flawlessly, really surprised me.

Dad gave me his about 20 years ago, didn't shoot it a bunch seemed to have issues just like all cheap 22's. I started a TH-cam channel, put a scope on it after removing the rear sight. Ran some Fed Auto Match and had decent results. Then I got some CCI Standard Velocity, that's when the fun started! Ran flawlessly with decent groups. Upgraded the scope got better groups! Now I have added a front sling stud, for a bipod, free floated the barrel, added a cheek riser, 6-20×50 scope. It's not a target rifle, however we're now capable of 1/2" groups at 50 yards and consistent 1" groups at 50! It's a really fun .22lr. I will probably upgrade the scope once again to a FFP with at least a 25×, currently it has a cheap Centerpoint. It's doing the job but could be better!

I got one of these when they first came out easily over 20 some odd years ago. I got a deal on it on a LGS to add a scope if I took it home that day. Best deal I ever made. That is my truck gun, handy yard partner and practice buddy. The first mag got kinda dumpy on me about 7 years ago, so I ordered a new steel one and have NOT had a problem with it since. I DID have a cci shell come apart on me, and the gun held together. The Gunsmith said that due to the 597 having twin rails and a beefy lock face, it is considerably stronger than the competition. I agree....

I have the heavy barrel model and it's one of my favorite guns. It's really balanced and it's so easy to shoot. With a vortex crossfire I get groups under the size of a dime with CCI Standard, Eley, and even Aguila Super Extra at 50 yards. Don't believe me? Well I plan on making a vid soon. Nice video my guy! New sub for ya!

No very close to this particular conversation - but I’ve never had too many issues with 22s. My current stock is ruger mkiv 22/45 bull barrel - ruger 10/22 put a hogue overmold on it - and my favorite Henry H001 22 S L & LR. Love my 22s all shapes and sizes.

Another great review. I have never won anything so this is kind of a shock to me. I just sent you my information. Sorry that I have not been around TH-cam the past couple of days. The rifle definitely looks worth checking out

Got the bull barrel model it'll eat anything you put in it. Great balance as well, no complaints, would definitely recommend for anybody that's looking. it's just as fun to shoot as M&P 15-22 . what I'm saying both will eat anyting, on point and recommend.

I love my remington 597 and I understand what you mean by smiling a bit at the range. I did the same thing smile and grin after shooting mine for the first time.

I have had a 597 for years and never had any issues with it at all. That is until I recently bought a bulk box of Winchester and that ammo is crap. Do not place it in your gun for self defense.

    Thanks for the video.
I've been thinking about getting one for
some time now. Every time I go to my
    local dunham's. Lol!
    How's your 597 running.
    Any issues so far?

Just got this in a trade as well...whats a good caliber and grain for varmint or predator hunting? Is 100yards a good range to sight in

    • @countryboyreviews
      @countryboyreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I like 17 HMR for varmints and .22-250 for yotes. 17 WSM and 22 Hornet are great for yotes too. 100 yards is good to sight it in depending on your location. Thanks for watching!

Awful trigger, got the volquartsen upgrade, transformed the rifle, doesn't jam anywhere as much as before with the extractor upgrade.
