    i have this rifle and its the jam master, i put a volqautzen extractor in it and its never jammed since, brunells sell the extractor, it shoots 1/2" groupings at 50 mtrs, i love it now.

    I've done some work to mine, but even in factory condition, it was a fun rifle! Really accurate with CCI Standard Velocity!

    Damn That's been around for quite a long time. I bought one of those 20+ years ago. Don't have the rifle anymore but still managed to keep an extra magazine for it somewhere in the safe. I remember it being a good rifle but super picky on oil viscosity, better use the thinnest stuff you can find.

    After more than 10k rds I put through mine, it is still shot very accurately and no jams what's so ever. And it cycles subsonic ammunition very well too. The only parts that I swapped out was the extractor with a volquartsen one. Other than that, everything else are still original. With what I paid for it.. I couldn't be more happier with it :D.

      robert shinenne you got one of the good ones. I’ve shot three of these and all of them had issues. Fine for the price but a bit of luck needs to be with you. Like Angel says, it’s full sized so it fits adults better then most 22’s so well worth the price for that alone. (Strange magazine though).

    I bought mine in summer 2017. Gray stock but- well. The R 597 is so reliable is almost boring to shoot on the range. The only issue I have is that I have no iron sights. A vermin utility-rifle should have some standard iron sights. But that is only my opinion. I asked a gunsmith to add some iron ones but this would come more expensive then I paid for the gun itself. That little rifle helpt out a lot shooting vermins on the yard. If someone lives in the country outside in the sticks, a 22lr is essential.
    I am very pleased with my Remington 597

    Good review. I got this exact same 597 to go with my old Remington 1100 12gauge. But my magazines only hold 8 bullets, when they are supposed to take 10. I was going to buy a clear plastic 30 round mag, but I hear they’re garbage. It’s a good rifle and I like Remington.

    My 2015 597, has 3500 rdns, threw it, and just a few FTF, because of non stock, extended magazine issues only. Well worth the money.

    I have one of these but mine has the Mosseyoak pink camo. coloured stock, at first I didn't like it, but for the price of the rifle, I got used to it.
    I found what you did Adriel, in as far as scope mounting, and I bought a picatinny rail for mine, and it is a great addition and provides a better / more solid mounting for my scope ( I mounted a Hawke 4x32 AO scope on mine, great scope.)
    All in all, I like the 597 for general target shooting and plinking too.

      Reg Sparkes I bought a 10/22 AR thingy at Reliable Gun this last annual sale for half retail. Don’t even see the colour, I just see the flat of MiniMags and five magazines I bought with the money I saved. Also, the pink camo is kinda nice.

    I can get one today for $214+tax at Dunhams. Comes with a matched scope and nothing at the muzzle end so if you're one for threading the barrel and adding accessories, the one I looked at is the way to go. I've watched a few video's on the Rem 597 and with good ammo, you get great grouping at 50 yards. I'm talking 5 rounds in the quarter size grouping, up to a 1/2 dollar size grouping, using the scoped Rem 597 I'm looking at.

    I would put some fresh leafy foliage over the stock and try flat black spray paint and make a shadow camo pattern or something. Or a stock from Boyds.
    But yeah, that's a FUGLY stock colour.

    Many early magazine models malfunctioned. The 2nd generation mags fixes that problem. The other problem are the 2 guide rods that the bolt rides on. Loosen the screws behind them and just lightly finger tighten them ever so lightly. Fixed and reliable feeding.

    • @john-paulsilke893
      @john-paulsilke893 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Irving K doing Christmas in the cabin right now and I’m gonna try out this on my brother-in-law’s rifle. His is a pig and I’m always poking around in the breech to line up the rounds. Any ammo specifics? We use MiniMags since they work in everything I have, (I have some Thunders for my old revolver).

    • @irvingk3631
      @irvingk3631 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John-Paul Silke mini mags are the best. After many years I noticed that the tolerances were still very tight so cleaned out all the grease, used a good oil like 3in1, (NOT wd40) and when putting the guide rods back just VERY lightly tighten the screws. Almost no force. Together with the 2nd generation magazines I have had very few issues. Extreme cold sometimes messes with tolerances and feeding but it's rare.

      Tried it today. -22C our and my sub2000 worked fantastic even though I stored it pretty wet with oil, (I always do this if I’m not planning to shoot a gun for a few months). The .22 was a bit rough but did work and to give it a good chance we wiped it down first. Too cold to load .22’s and we only had three mags but it did function better. My Brother’s JR Carbine was also angry and gave us trouble so it could just be the weather, (we shot 30rds from the JR with the bolt sticky but my Sub pumped out over 200rds) so these were nearly worst case situations for this rifle.

      @benyatrock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 597 HB which I bought brand new. It failed to fire very often, so I sent it back to Remington. They had it a month, but ever since then, the gun has not had a single failure of any kind. I installed a Volquartsen target hammer, which cut the trigger pull almost in half. My 597 is very accurate, especially with its favorite ammo, CCI minimags. I sight my 22s in at 35 yards, and ten shots from this one (topped with a Burris 2-7x33) makes one ragged hole.

    • @dormandavis2767
      @dormandavis2767 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @johnt4060
      @johnt4060 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dormandavis2767 yeah umm you don’t want to just soak it in lubricant. On any semi auto 22 you just lube the parts that are moving and that’s it.
      The reason yours kept jamming is because all the lube mixed with carbon from the 22 powder and that’s what was jamming.
      It’s actually extremely simple to make them function properly as long as you know what you’re doing
