    I switched from GLS to X7 and the change has been very positive. X7 is a better family daily hauler by far!!

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Can you also confirm that the X7 has far better build and material quality? I sat in the GLS and X7 and was shocked by how much plastic is in the GLS and some parts felt loose. Horrible.

    • @BeNice76
      @BeNice76 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@SDav21 absolutely. X7 is a total different breed. Better quality for sure. Drives better. Handles better. Materials feel nicer. Quality is better as well. No rattlings like I had in the GLS after I put 10k miles on it, I won't be going back to MB anytime soon!! Being in late 40s that needs a 3 row SUV GLS feels like a grandpa SUV in comparison to the amazing X7.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@BeNice76 I can't understand how reviewers rarely mention the quality issues with the GLS. It's clear then that the X7 and X5 is far above the Mercedes equivalent. I am so sad for Mercedes because it was the brand that I always loved and was so loyal to. But after having test driven their new models to see if I should replace my 2014 E Class, they just feel like a huge step down in quality. I'll definitely consider BMW next.

    • @tanzil88
      @tanzil88 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SDav21 because they have the Maybach version of GLS, that's why. Probably strategic marketing choice from MB.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@tanzil88 The Maybach GLS costs a lot more. People looking at the normal GLS won't be looking at a Maybach version. Even a normal GLS costs more than the X7 yet is a significantly poorer car in all aspects. It's just Mercedes cost cutting and throwing away their brand reputation. They have no excuse for such a poor quality product at these prices.

    BMW FTW here. Yes, we all know the B58 is standard(love that BMW didn't try to have the 2.0t as standard), but the BMW just seems to check the boxes better than the MB. It handles better, is quieter, sounds so much better, etc. The only thing that frustrates me with the BMW is the removal of the physical controls for climate. I loathe cars that have everything controlled via touchscreen. But it makes up for it with the open-pore American walnut wood over the black-laqueur in the MB that comes across as yet another vehicle with piano-black plastic(although it is not).
    Considering that the GLE450 would be substantially more expensive than the X5 as equipped yet be slower and about equal on efficiency, the Bimmer just seems like the better buy.
    **I still believe the X5 should be awarded at least a half-point for the split-tailgate. It is a very unique option in all of the midsize SUV class. I could be wrong, but I believe only the $100K+ Range Rover(aside from the other BMW models) is the only other SUV to have the feature since the new LX600 abandoned it.

    • @ayushmalpeddi2793
      @ayushmalpeddi2793 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rivian R1S and BMW X7 have the feature. Pre-price hike R1S costed 75.5K but they do come fully loaded. X7 well equipped is also under 100K.

      Same reason for me to order the BMW

    • @doctordetroit4339
      @doctordetroit4339 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really. I have owned both types. For many in the actual demographic that buys these cars the replacement of everything onto a screen is a show stopper. Also the second row in a Benz easily outpaces the Beemer, and if you get the 3rd row option for the Benz, the second row adjusts (the only luxury car of its size that does so apparently). Again, this can be a show stopper. Especially if you have a family and go on long trips. Comfort factor is huge.
      Why in the hell both do not have adjustable second row seats as standard is a disgrace at this price point.
      Finally, if any of you have owned both types.....you know the deal in terms of "wow" factor. Build out the GLE with all the trimmings (not like the one in this video) and it will cost $10K more than the comparable X5....but you will DEFINITELY know where that money went. So will anyone you drive around.

    • @hellkitty1014
      @hellkitty1014 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@doctordetroit4339 while I've not owned both of the latest GLE and X5s, I've extensively tested both. The second row space disparity is not the large to make a difference in the real world, and I appreciate the standard climate adjustment of the X5 vs the GLE that forced you to pay for yet another pricey option pkg. As for the power seats, they are sloooww if your moving to the 3rd row, speaking of which is so tight, I don't know why someone would rob themselves of cargo space for such an inefficient use of a seat. If that is necessary often, the GLS is far more suitable.
      The interior of the GLE is good, but does not seem to impart a feeling of being better vs the X5. I do believe the GLE rides better than the X5(without the air springs), but the X5 certainly drives better.
      I'm a huge MB fan, but I was hoping for more on the GLE refresh.

    • @doctordetroit4339
      @doctordetroit4339 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@hellkitty1014 You get the third row simply to be able to adjust the seats of the second row, not to actually use the third row as it is generally useless. You are correct about the MB interior. But that has always been the case. You have to go AMG level (not the engine---that is insanely pricey, just the badging) to get super-nice leather and whatnot. At that point, it exceeds the X5 (quite easily) but it costs $15-20K more. At that point you may as well get an X7 or GLS, you are talking $100K!!
      I would add that my BMW nappa and marino leathers (that I paid a lot for and long wait times) looks rough only after a few years. I am not that hard on my cars, but soft leather is a real liability. Regardless of brand I think. My Benz had Tex, which although I did not like it as much as leather, it held up great and you couldn't really tell the difference between it and the "normal" leather (not marino or nappa). I would consider staying with fake or basic leather, it can take some hits.
      As for driving....you are correct. A century from now....BMWs will still be a car that you drive.....the Benz (aside from AMG models) will be the car that drives you. take care.

    It was between these two for me...and I ordered a 2024 BMW X5. What sold me was new interior, m sport and pro package, steering wheel with those packages, and the seats are so good. The update interior and technology on the X5 won me over. Plus 3 year service! On a past Mercedes I had to buy a service package for $1500...not doing that this time! After 10 years with MB (C class followed by my current GLC) where both cars have been solid and reliable, I’m going to have to go X5 here. Plus, want a PHEV which MB doesn’t offer. Just that gives BMW the lead, plus the PHEV is even more powerful. The upgrade to the X5 interior also made a huge improvement for 2024 as it was starting to feel very dated. Can’t wait to get to the dealer and place my order…!

      I'm also very happy with my GLC. Thinking of moving to a GLE. I owned in the past an ML320 for 18 years. Loved it. The GLE does offer a PHEV for 2024 and I am already able to order it. I am debating between the GLE450 or the PHEV. The 450 is much faster. Prices are the same, start at $69,500 or so.

    New X5 interior is terrible compared to the previous model, which I have now. The lack of physical climate control buttons is a deal breaker. Lack of physical shifter is not ideal. There was no need to remove the physical buttons other than cost savings which just make the interior look cheap. You should also be comparing the 450 not 350 to the 4.0.

  • @rdefacendis
    @rdefacendis ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I am always puzzled by the ongoing and often noisy debate about whether climate buttons should be hard or is it ok to have them embedded in a touch screen. These cars (and most cars nowadays) have climate control. It is "set and forget" most of the time. It is not something you are adjusting two or three times during a single trip. The exception would be winter driving and defrost functions. But if you live in a moderate climate without snow or frost - you aren't touching those controls! I go months without touching climate functions.

    2 things why Mercedes is far behind: 1) the interior is obsolete. Glc, S, E have gorgeous new interiors but gle and gls have old. 2) The same with the sittings - X5 has top chairs like x7 and 7, while gle and gls have obsolete chairs that are much simpler then in S and E.

      If the comparison was focused on powertrain then you would be correct. However these represent the entry-level trims of this class, and as such are fair to be compared given similar pricing and standard equipment.

    • @CookandBakewithSamer

      @@dan339g I agree with both Caglar and Dan. The issue I see here, the GLE450 starts at $69,500 while the BMW starts at $67,500. Speeds wise, is where they would have been identical here. The BMW does have a lot more standard equipment than the GLE. Good comparison though. :)
