My wife and I were in a 2017 XC90 when a tractor trailer hauling 65000 lbs of gravel lost control, crossed the centre line and hit us head on. We were able to walk away. End of discussion!

The glove box on the XC90 is actually one of the coolest minor features. Yes it’s operated by a physical button on the dash, but you didn’t mention, that it locks, when you lock the car.
This is great, if you want to toss something of value in it (like a wallet, etc.), without the need of having to use a physical key.
    Very convenient feature.

I bought my 2023 GLE450 mid-February and put 10,000 miles on it in less than 5 months. I drove from Phoenix, to southern Texas, Arkansas then spent 2 months in St. Louis, then back to Phoenix over the old Route 66 and I must say it was fantastic! I've driven a version of this route almost every year for 25 years with various vehicles (98 Chevy Venture, which had a built-in booster seat, 2006 Buick Terraza, yes Buick made a minivan, and a 2010 ML350 Bluetec. The 450 is a dream to drive, whether you are on back roads or the interstate. So many safety features, the one I found most useful, it monitors your driving and if it senses a change, it tells you to pullover and rest, and since I was alone this was a great feature to remind me that I was not driving the same and fatigue was setting in. There's also a kind of weird seat massage you can turn on that's for long road trips (it's not the regular massaging seat option), that I found useful. So many creature comforts and it becomes intuitive to operate after a month or so, plus if you can't remember what you want just say "hey Mercedes" and your little voice activated friend will do it for you.
I know Mercedes maintenance can be $$$, but I did not have any issues with the 2010, until a major oil leak at 155,000 miles. That was a $4,000 ouch but since I had only done oil changes up until then I figure over 13 years it wasn't terrible. Plus I received $3,500 from Mercedes for "diesel gate", so I figure it really only costs me $500. Oh and I had the timing chain replaced while they had it apart, can't remember how much that was, so it must not have been that bad, lol. Overall if you want a beautiful, extremely comfortable car and can afford it, I'd choose the Mercedes everyday. I also drove/looked at all the others and think the Mercedes beats them all, well maybe the Porsche Cayenne but it would have cost more. And something else I did not expect I averaged 25.6 miles to the gallon overall, not as good as my 2010 diesel, that I was getting 32 MPG, but better than expected. That's my 2 cents!

I’m Swedish and a Volvo dork, so I feel like have to share this cause every time I watch review with new Volvos, the journalist always talk about it. They moved the drive moods into the screen cause if it’s easy to access all the time, you’re more prone to switch between while driving. This will make you more distracted while driving and it screws with your fuel consumption. Same goes with the climate controls, don’t get me wrong I think all climate controls in ALL cars should be buttons. Swedes are obsessed with “planed” driving. Meaning when you get in the car, before you take off, set the cars settings to whatever fits you best and then leave the screen alone and only focus on getting you and your passengers to the destination in the safest possible way. Also driving modes in non-sports cars are pretty pointless

Everyone sleeps on Volvo until they get taken to Gapplebees by our T8 Polestar. I can tell you from experience that it’s faster from a stop than a new WRX and an older tuned STi 😂 Mercedes looks cheap and chintzy with all that chrome trim everywhere. Get one of the blacked-out “dark” packages (used to be called R-design) for an even sleepier package. It’s funny that the Mercedes uses those huge tires when it really doesn’t need them given the lack of power….maybe on a real AMG model. All that said, the X5M is what you really want if you want sporty, but that 15MPG does suck, as does the $140k price tag and insurance. The XC90 T8 with the Polestar tune (available from any dealership) is close enough to 500HP, so you’re nipping the heels of a AMG GLE 63 S or X5M at that point, but again the BMW feels a lot more like a “real” sports car than either. There’s also the X6M if you want all the useable trunk space of a Honda Civic in your $150k 5300# SUV. “Coupe” SUVs should not be a thing. Lastly, the XC90 has 3 rows, so if you want something sportier with 3 rows your options are basically Alpina XB7 or Escalade-V, both of which are >$150k. At $70-90k I feel that the Volvo is a good value given the other options.

I would still consider upgrading my 2017 XC 90 T8 had the newer models come withy a larger battery than the 40 miles it offers. Something like 70 miles range and DC charging like what the Range Rover offers because its just fine and the family enjoy its ride. I wish Volvo made a hybrid version of new EXC-90. That would have certainly been my choice for an upgrade

  • @tuganbolatl2932

Volvo is looking much more clean and much more chracteristic. Interior design also. Yes Mercedes gives a little bit much more options to indivudialize but Volvo 's quality is more good. I' m using an S90 which is the brother of this car and i absolutely love it. You can see the materyal quality the eyes can't see when you open someting. Even inside the hood. Even the cover of motor's plastic is a good and soft material.Driven this car fantastic. I mean the gearshifter is the Best in class Made from AISIN brand from Japan and ypu dont feel the gear changes. It accelerates very smoothly. The napa leather seats are looking gorgeus and very comfartable. It is real leather and it is very expensive. Cooling seat, heating and massage functions etc. They even think putting dimming side mirrors as standart at Volvo's which is a unique function because at darker nights the car behind with it is Light doesnt disturb you from the side rear mirrors. The list goes on and on. Finally i've been driving this car more than 5 years..

Odd you failed to mention the volvo has the option of the b6, upping the hp to the same as the gle. Also volvo offers the polestar performance upgrade which essentially adds a sport mode. Yes there is a lack of customization and physical buttons but manyfunction can be adjusted by voice commands through the google interface. No need to look or move your hands. And for $12000 grand less not sure how the Gle would be preffered.
Recently bought the xc60 ultimate and choose it over the Mercedes, bmw etc. Value and overall design won out hands down.

@@looncrazLOL. “Poised, matured, better behaved”? It’s a car not a child. I care about the actual features like how easy it is to navigate the infotainment system (with the trackpad), and the interior, which Mercedes does better than anyone. I actually think MB does a good job of blending classy with rugged, giving more space for passengers too.

@@dienumight We are comparing the GLE 450 against the XC90. The XC90 is a more refined vehicle in many regards. I'm sorry but over $10,000 of price difference isn't a comparison. That an almost 15% difference (using $70k as the basis). Isn't this supposed to be a person who knows about cars? Guru? ...hmmm? Maybe a more correct comparison would be the GLE 350 and the XC90 B6. It's a closer engine comparison and closer price comparison. I suspect that this was staged to give the impression that the two cars were being compared but the goal was to choose the Mercedes (can you spell payola?). It's easy to say "I would choose the Mercedes", when it's not your wallet that the extra $10k is coming out of.

I had a 21 Inscription. It was the loudest, worse riding vehicle I’ve ever owned. The interior is pretty dated as well.

IMHO, the only Volvo worthy of buying and carrying the "luxury vehicle" label is the V90 wagon...the V90 is a fantastic vechicle and pure delight to drive.
Honestly, not too many good things I can say about the XC90, except the seats looked nice, although they felt like sitting on bricks.
    Just my opinion as a former XC90 and V90 valet driver...not a V90 owner.

Let's start this by saying comparing a Volvo to a Mercedes-Benz is like comparing apples to oranges.
Volvo is a premium brand owned by the Chinese conglomerate, Geely. Whereas, Mercedes-Benz is a luxury brand.
XC90 is also on the smaller side for a mid-sized SUV when compared to the GLE.
You don't have to spec the GLE with AMG line. You can buy one without and pay less than 88k for the i6 engine.
When you state in the video that Mercedes-Benz does.not offer captain chairs in the 2nd row, it does. Only on the GLS however.

Not at all. The Volvo is a European vehicle from Sweden and the Mercedes one from Germany. Some put Mercedes in some higher rung but if it is, it's not that much higher.

    • @richteezer1

XC90 has more room than a GLE in the back, larger 3rd row seats and more room behind those seats too.

    • @harrymontgomery2923

@@richteezer1 I had a 2022 GLE, which I compared to my brother's X90. Day and night difference in overall space and quality. If I wanted a 7 seater, I'd upgrade to a GLS. On my 2nd GLE, and it's all I need.
I agree the 7 seats in GLE is not really practical. But that's not what the GLE is for.
You have it's big brother, GLS.

Volvo looks more for seniors and older generation. Mercedes looks way better, the drive, options, comfort, power etc... Mercedes all day everyday. You can't compare the two of them, volvo goes more with Volkswagen and mercedes with the bmw. Mercedes-Benz all day

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Honestly, I really don't care. The fact is, Volvo creates better cars now than they did under Ford. And under GM, Saab died. Volvo has a great parent company because they leave Volvo alone basically and finances them to create stylish cars out of Sweden like they always have. Mercedes actually collaborated with Geely on the Smart#1 and, in its class, it's a good car. Both Mercedes and Volvo can build their cars somewhere else, but the teams engineering/designing them are in their home countries.

Does it matter? Most of the items in your home were manufactured in China. If we cut off trade with the Chinese our way of life would cease to exist. Walmart, Target and Amazon would be toast. Sad, but true.
