  • What’s a Chinese SUV like to live with? The 2022 Haval H6 Ultra midsize SUV continues as the second-from-top trim level and looks like great value for just under $40k drive away. Andrew Chesterton spent three months testing the 2022 Haval H6 Ultra with his family. Should you choose an H6 over one of the better-known rivals? YES it does have a lot of power for 2 liter you put your foot down and it does 0-100 in 7.4 sec and a very smooth gearbox. After driving a few of them they are all quite good to drive i am getting the H6 Ultra in few days. UPDATE, I got the Havel H6 Ultra 2022 with the updated engine 160KW 345NM torque does pull very well I had it on a closed off road up to 160km/h and still has lots to go. The vehicle is very quiet and refined surprisingly well quality build better than Mazda CX-5 or Toyota Rav 4 I would say. Everyone says excellent choice for a vehicle I am very happy with it.

I have had my Haval H6 Ultra 4WD for 1 year now and I still love it. It still looks and feels brand new. Everyone that sees it or gets in it says …wow… what a beautiful car. And the two screens always impress. I’m always called upon to take my car when we need to car pool as it is so comfortable in the back seat. With the panoramic sun roof and visibility from the rear everyone wants the back seat !!! It is truly extraordinary for the money. The only things that are good but not great are :
    1) ride - fix the ride as it clunks badly over speed bumps and is very wobbly on imperfect roads
    2) front seats / seating position / steering adjustment- I have an under thigh support to fix my problem as it is insufficient for me. The seats look beautiful and are good. The electronic seat adjustment needs to go 10cm further in every direction & I can’t put the seat back far enough. Add under thigh support & adjustment & make the lumbar support better (needs tweaking so that the max level is the starting position). The steering column adjustment doesn’t move far enough in any direction. My left foot is jammed up against the oversize centre console. Space is needed for the left foot in the right hand drive car.
As I said everything is good and definitely not bad but to make the car great fix these 2 minor gripes.
I still can’t recommend this car enough. But buy the 4WD version.

We have owned our H6 Ultra for over 12mths now and my wife loves it, myself not so keen my biggest dislikes are the gear knob sometimes selecting the correct gear can be a hit and miss, and the aircon controls which are on the LCD screen which require you to go in the menu and then select the desired settings and we have found that the size of the car front can sometimes limit your vision when trying to avoid little obstacles like curbs in tight turning areas like drive through and finally the close sensor proximities can do your head in as the seem to activate a lot when driving through drive throughs, apart from these minor annoyances the car is great for the price.

I'm still learning the Jolion, but I've found with the lane assist, if I turn off sound but leave vibrate on, then the car will remember these settings. If you just turn it all off, it will come back on upon restart.
Also, apparently you can swip the screen sideways for shortcuts. Yet to try this.

Just to give some extra info about H6. So I am a Chinese living in Australia. I don't work in the car industry, but I have some mechanical background. I don’t have plans to buy the Haval H6, I'm just very interested in cars. I know the Haval H6 has been the best selling medium size SUV in China for years and it's been mostly known as a pretty reliable car.
I read quite a few Chinese reviews of the car and here is a very interesting one I found: th-cam.com/video/El6Z6dao4iI/w-d-xo.html
There is an English subtitle in the video BTW. In the video, they compared Haval H6 with another very popular Chinese SUV after both driving them for 100,000kms (about 6-7 years average driving in Australia that is). One thing to mention here is they drove both of the cars in a short period of time (about 6 months) in mixed open roads. So I believe the test would't find ageing issues, but other than the wearing issues.
In the video, they dissembled both of the cars and checked their build qualities, the conditions of the major components including the engines, and they give their thoughts. I will be talking about the Haval H6 here. The Haval H6 did very well in the test and they've only experienced one small issue during the 100,000kms drive and the issue was fixed by the 4s under the warranty. They mentioned the build quality of the Haval H6 seemed to be very well, and they didn't see much wearing of the engine and other major components. They also did the braking and accelerating tests for the 100,000kms old car, and the car also did very well. So their conclusion of the Haval H6 was the car was built pretty well and seemed to be quite reliable.
Based on my other readings from the Chinese medias, a common opinion about the Haval H6 is the car is not a “driver’s car”, but it should be good enough for the average users in normal roads. An interesting thing I found was some Chinese reviews thought the car drives a bit firm, well apparently the car is considered soft here in Australia.
How about the engine? So the car’s engine is not the most advanced, and its output is very mild as a 2.0T turbo. Also, the car has been considered thirty. They think the engine is tuned to be more reliable other than performant.
How about the transmission? So the transmission is a 7 speed wet dual clutch, and it’s not as smooth as your normal ACTs but most reviews consider it as a ’smooth DCT’.

So the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5 or Hyundai Tucson are still the better SUV?. The Haval & MG SUV's are impressive but the question of reliability & quality, the dct & engine under power are real concerns. No matter where I look, I always come back to the Toyota RAV4 & the naturally aspirated 2.5l cx5 & Tucson. Which do you think is best SUV to purchase in the naturally aspirated 2.5l petrol engines, 6/8 speed auto AWD out of the 3, RAV4, Mazda CX-5, or the Tucson?? Appreciate to hear your thoughts 👍

We took the previous model for test drive and found that features were really great, however, the drive was so bad that we thought it was dangerous. There was a bad deadspot when taking off to cross intersection, and after talking with the dealer they recommended a 3rd party module as an add on. For the 2022 car, did Haval improve/solve this problem?

    • @Robob0027
      @Robob0027 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have a new Haval H6 too but it is the cheapest of the 3 models being a 2 wheel drive only but as I do not go off road and the extras by going up a model were not worth the additional money. The one thing I hate is what you have mentioned and that is the dead spot when crossing an intersection. It is indeed dangerous but 20 years ago I hired a Mercedes saloon (forgotten the model) and experienced exactly the same thing. Other than that and the lack of a information in the Owner's Manual, I am happy.

I've had the H6 Ultra AWD for some time now and two things irk me - the torque delivery / gearbox is not great... It is unresponsive off the mark and then takes off like a bat out of hell. The second is that seat doesn't have a seat base tilt and for me (6'4) this leaves me feeling less "cradled" in an already high seating position and more like I'm sitting on a park bench. Having said all that, everything else about the car is fantastic.
