German Shorthaired Pointers are an all around breed. They can do weight pulling, obedience, dock diving, agility, they are great swimmers and should only be around 50lbs for a female, have pleasant personalities, good cuddlers and easy keepers. We had our GSP for 18 years. Her name was Babe, and she was trained to bird hunt. Your little one looks just like her! They are amazing family dogs as well. We miss our Babe girl very much. She was amazing to watch hunt. I loved it when she went on point.

AWESOME CHOICE!!!!! When I was a kid my dad bred German Shorthaired Pointers and those are amazing dogs! I have so many great memories of Brownie(because she looked like a brownie with walnuts) and her 2 litters. She lived till the ripe ole age of 14. Oh... my... goodness. 👊😆 Obedience training... immediately. I had a high energy Mountain Feist that learned to sit & stay by 8 weeks. Smart dogs love to learn constantly. Keeping up with them is the challenge. It's never too early to start with high energy dogs like a Shorthair. He needs to be consistent so she learns he's her go-to. If she's running off, he's not doing enough. Glad you're on board with it being a family dog. Congratulations! ❤🎉
Consistency, structure, and non-stop love is the best training get her interested in playing with and use it as a reward instead of using food . Get her excited for doing good. She will work once she figures out, good is 🎉 time
A normal german shorthair is intelligent and biddable. If you get a very smart one they can be difficult train because they do not follow normal training patterns. Hopefully the runt will be a middle of the road as far as intelligence and trainability. I have owned 2 and loved them both. They were great upland game bird dogs and would retrieve ducks and geese from water and fields.
Nothing like a boy and his dog, my son has an English Bulldog named Matilda, she’s his joy! There’s just something that a dog brings to the home that makes it complete! Best of luck Houston!

We once had a German shorthair! She was a cute puppy, but when we put her out in the large backyard to play with our black lab she decided she would rather climb the chain link fence and run loose in the neighborhood which was not allowed in our subdivision! We had to find her a new home! I had a new born and a 4 yr old that I couldn’t leave alone to chase her! She was a beautiful puppy! My husband got her for hunting but he was at work and I couldn’t train her! I almost forgot to tell you! She liked to take the ornaments off the tree and break them in her mouth and chewed through the cord of the Christmas lights and our new toaster! I hope you have better luck! Houston’s little one is cute!

Great dogs, smart, loving, and some can have a bit of a stubborn streak, most of the time that is because they are so smart and bored. They need firm guidance and alot of love. You will have a friend for life.

I say this because it happened to me. My friends and social life took me away from my childhood pet that I wanted so dearly. I believe I was around 13 years old when I gravitated toward my friends and our social life, and drifted away from my furry little companion.
What an excellent decision Houston! Way to go little buddy. I got a GSP in July of ‘23. I had no idea what a comedian I was getting. I named her Echo after Echo brand duck calls. Get ready for the energy. My Echo never stops. She escapes over and under the the fence daily. She’s such a little escape artist. She quickly learned to open the door by turning the door handle with her mouth. She’s the smartest and most loving, energetic dog I’ve ever had. Houston, get a fishing pole with a dove, quail, pigeon or duck wing on the end of the fishing line. She will point right now. It is really cool how soon they have the natural instinct to point. We opted a lab mix that was about seven months old. We brought him home and over the period of a couple of days, sat on our bed and we’re crying/my son and I/we did not know if we were going to be able to keep him. He was actually my son‘s dog. So my son set out to investigate how to potty train him, online. It was during our winter break from school so he tied a rope to his waist and to the dogs collar, and every 20 minutes he would walk outside with the dog and let him potty and then bring him back in. It didn’t take very long and he was potty trained. We were so relieved. We have now had him before several years and he’s a great dog. So glad my son figured out what to do with him
I grew up with a GSP. Super intelligent dogs that live and love hard and incredibly fast learners. They The puppy and Houston are going to have an amazing life together!

I have a German shorthaired pointer for 8 years one of the best dogs I have ever owned she passed away from getting hit by a truck when I called her home one of the saddest days of my life, she was just the best dog ever. My grandson has a German wirehaired pointer, and he is a beautiful breed to and turning out to be a treasure to just a great dog.
Oh my goodness Houston I grew up with a German shorthair his name was baron he was my constant companion for 15 years I loved that dog we were never apart he saved me from a wolf when I was 12 and I loved him, he was my dads hunting dog, Idaho country pheasants, ducks, quail, geese, doves he was amazing great choice !

Ever kid should have a dog. I have Australian shepherd/ border collie as a service dog. I’m a combat veteran and her high energy is a great help to me because I have to focus on her and help me with my issues. Dogs are a great gift from god!

We opted a lab mix that was about seven months old. We brought him home and over the period of a couple of days, sat on our bed and we’re crying/my son and I/we did not know if we were going to be able to keep him. He was actually my son‘s dog. So my son set out to investigate how to potty train him, online. It was during our winter break from school so he tied a rope to his waist and to the dogs collar, and every 20 minutes he would walk outside with the dog and let him potty and then bring him back in. It didn’t take very long and he was potty trained. We were so relieved. We have now had him before several years and he’s a great dog. So glad my son figured out what to do with him

I have a German shorthaired pointer for 8 years one of the best dogs I have ever owned she passed away from getting hit by a truck when I called her home one of the saddest days of my life, she was just the best dog ever. My grandson has a German wirehaired pointer, and he is a beautiful breed to and turning out to be a treasure to just a great dog.

Oh my goodness Houston I grew up with a German shorthair his name was baron he was my constant companion for 15 years I loved that dog we were never apart he saved me from a wolf when I was 12 and I loved him, he was my dads hunting dog, Idaho country pheasants, ducks, quail, geese, doves he was amazing great choice !

Protecting your homestead from predators is vital. And indicates your true love for your own animals and family! As well as other wildlife like deer and turkey. If you are not breaking any laws, it is up to you to decide your personal decisions regarding your home and family! These decisions can be difficult as there are pros and cons to everything, but ultimately it is YOUR decision! Congratulations on the new pup!

Ever kid should have a dog. I have Australian shepherd/ border collie as a service dog. I’m a combat veteran and her high energy is a great help to me because I have to focus on her and help me with my issues. Dogs are a great gift from god!
