Our German Shorthaired Pointer Charmin trained my dad how to hunt… smartest, sweetest, best dog EVER. My mom had started a Christmas Club savings account however had to empty it out to pay for a complete mastectomy and hysterectomy on Charmin when we discovered she had cancer. For two weeks after she came home she laid on my parents waterbed watching soaps while she healed…

I would let my GSP out at night and most night she brought home an opossum! I would take the retrieve and praise him and go inside. The next morning they were always gone. Very gentle retrievers!

Hi Daniel,Houston hey wanted to tell you something for the safety of Kelsie. I was a dog trainer and dog behaviorist for 40 years and I don’t know if you were told this or not but please do t leave the choker on Kelsie if she isn’t being watched. She can get it caught on something and hang herself trying to get loose. I was at a dog show and someone had a choker on a show dog and he got his choker caught on a hook on the crate and he choked and almost died. And one other thing that is if you what to know😆🤣 tell her off when she jumps on you or is on the furniture and you want her to get down tell her down to lay down that’s it. The guy did good work. I loved training dogs for people and did a lot in 40 years. Keep working her everyday she will be amazing. And it will be natural for her and you all too. Bye👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

Houston , Kelcye and you need to become a bonded pair. I have seen this Bond develop and it is amazing. Learn the signals from Kelcye and Kelcye will learn yours. It's the most amazing language. Others in the family can and should take a step away. You must be the no. 1. It's a lot of love and responsibility. You must have Kelcye 's back when she messes up. You will have to clean it up. Don't worry, it's not the end of the world. You can do this. Good luck.

It only took a few weeks to get her there but the next six weeks of consistent reinforcement will be the deciding factor of her ability to give you the dog you want and the dog you get. I believe she will set a new standard for the other dogs and how you work w them.

I had a black labrador that I trained 'heel' to me (on the left), and 'get in behind' to heel to the horse (on the right). The reason for that is that horses are supposed to be on the right side of the road, and that kept the dog farthest from the vehicles.

Boy Huston sure is growing up and maturing. He’s always been one of those kids that could hang out with the adults but I’ve just really noticed lately how he’s been changing from the little boy into a young man. He’s lost any of the chubby-ness to his cheeks, shot up taller and just really grown into himself. He’s polite, easy to be around and most of all he’s kind. How proud you must be of him. Not that my thoughts matter much, just thought I’d share. Blessings ❤😊

I have a Belgian Malinois and an all-black (rare coloring) German Shorthaired pointer, two high drive breeds that are easy to work with in a training capacity, we train two to four times a day in short 15-minute sessions which end in the dog's success. Training is fun and enriching for them and they will enjoy it throughout their entire lives.Your trainer is what is known as a 'balanced trainer' they will use the best training method and training tools that are best for your dog, he knows his dog training.
There are also these purely positive fanatics out there now who don't believe in telling a dog 'NO!' nor will they use electronic collars or other aids deemed aversive to give a dog fair and clear guidance and corrections even if it means saving the dog life. This robot comment is usually from people whose dogs could use some training and don't understand what dog training is. Good Luck Housten!!

Sure miss my German Shorthair named Blue. I didn't have the money to send him to dog training school, and it took me 10 years to get him to finally calm down enough to be able to walk him on a leash without him dragging me all over the place. But before he left this world at the old age of 17 years old, he was the calmest pet I've ever had. I would lay down and he'd curl up beside me and lay his chin on my leg. Even at the age of 17, NOBODY would mess with me if he was there. It was a trust and love between us that couldn't have been broke. Absolute Great breed of Dog.

The girls ( 6 daughters) tried to find his owner. Well, they named him Big Mac! He was a loving and great duck dog, and the shotgun didn't bother him, and he loved riding in the truck!

She looks good, good on you realizing humans need to be trained on how dogs react to input. Any good safe leader can keep any good dog in line w voice control. Reward good behavior, deny attention for bad behavior. Never punish a dog. They only respond to positive learning. Dogs need love and reinforcement of family structure more than being a trained monkey.

You will be saying it a lot! :) Having a well mannered dog is just as important for it's safety as it is to have a well behaved pup in the family unit. The 2 biggest commands are SIT! to stop them from getting into trouble (or hit by something) and HERE! for recall! good job guys! Keep practicing Houston! Soon it will start coming naturally to you!

Cody was like "Oh my Lord, he's filming me - I'm out!". What the dog trainer called these little barkers in the yard, as Houston and Kelce were passing by? That's what a friend of mine calls her two cats, lol. I like the fact that the trainer said that you don't have to yell at her when giving her a command but instead use the same voice as when you praise her. I also think it's awesome that the trainer spend that long time teaching you guys what he taught Kelce - rather than training her for a specific amount of time and when that's over hand the dog over without much of an explanation of how to handle her, as if saying "here's your dog - good luck!". I've seen that happen before, sadly. I hope Kelce won't forget toomuch of her training, once she hits dog puberty. That's a real thing. Oh Izzy, that was mean! Kelce is playing rough! Earl just wanted to sniff you *lol*. Nice blooper at the end, Houston, lol.

I used a shock collar on my English Lab 2 yr old. She is getting so much better around other people. After the critical 14 days if she starts acting all crazy all I have to do is put the collar on her and she starts behaving. I work with her at least 1-2 hrs daily on commands. This is my 10th dog that I have trained using this technique.

Awesome video! Kelce learned some great life skills there. What a great place for dog training! Kelce is still a fun loving pup, but she is so well behaved! I love how Kelce greeted you all when you picked her up......happiness overload! You are all going to enjoy going for walks with her now. I hope you are all having a great week. Prayers and love for you all, Donna Gulyas in Florida.....

I think it's always a great idea to teach dogs some manners and obedience, especially high-strung dogs. The trick now will be consistency to keep the training going. It's easy to fall back into old habits. I'm glad the trainer spent time training the humans!

I can totally agree with the assessment of the GSP character!! Our GSP, Meisha, was a foster for a friend while she was in the mission field. Meisha managed to dislocated BOTH my shoulders during her stay with us. She also found so much joy in terrorizing our cats. But she was SOOOO soft. I loved her cuddles!!

LOVE this. I am a fellow first time GSP owner. Mine is now 3+ years old and it has been a fun adventure watching her grow physically and mentally. Great to see Houston work with her. Even the little things like picking her up and getting her used to it and submitting. my dog has great recall when called but she does need leash training. she pulls every time she meets someone new. I think professional training was a great great idea especially on this breed. having fun is great but having manners is also great.

My first dog I ever had was a female GSP and was such a good dog. She was well behaved and minded what you told her to do. Except I could not keep couch pillows cause she loved chewing them up. She loved pheasant hunting and the water. Houston will have a great companion in Kelce and they will grow together. Great video

We had a GSP, he was with us for 15.5 years. Best behaved dog of all. He went everywhere with us. Best bird dog. Best family dog. He put up with toddlers all over him. Kelley had Earl training too! Enjoy her!

It is great to have your dogs trained. Mine won't stop barking if someone is here.. But we know its because we don't do it right. I can't imagine having dogs in you environment. Lightning ,thunder , tornados. All the things that freak dogs out. To get them to come and listen. Kelsie will train the others more im sure.

Congratulations Kelce and welcome home baby. Kelce is so pretty and adorable. I had a GSP mixed with Chesapeake. Loved that puppers, but he got hurt horribly by a truck when he went after it when the driver honked the horn loud. My husband had to put him down the injury was so extreme. Loved Chessies too. But then, I love all dogs and that is why I have 3.
