Honestly can't remember how long it took. Couple of hours I think & I really wasn't fit enough! Had a lot of knee issues before this & didn't prepare well enough. Definitely going back to do it again though. You don't need to pay to do the steps. However if you want to go in attractions at top of rock you need to pay an entrance fee. This was about £15 I think but gives you access to skywalk, seige tunnels, ww2 tunnels, o'hara battery & a few more sites. Loads more to explore up there as well plus some amazing views!
