Trying The RAW VEGAN DIET For A Week 🥕 (No animal products or cooked foods)

  • I completely changed my diet to being fully raw vegan (no animal products, meat, dairy, or anything cooked above 118 degrees Fahrenheit) for a full week, and it was both incredibly difficult as well as eye-opening. P.S. Make sure to turn on my post notifications because I’m in JAPAN this week and releasing some SUPER SICK VIDEOS!! 😜 Huge thanks to Sun Cafe for guiding me through this journey! CORRECTION: In the video I mention that Sun Cafe is a raw vegan restaurant. While several menu items are raw vegan, the restaurant also serves cooked vegan foods. :)

    YOU GUYS! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR 400K! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. For everyone who's new here after my "Why I Left BuzzFeed" video, I promise that more high quality insane content like that is on the way - just not sustainable for me to keep doing fight scenes / literal movie magic every single week ahahaha. I'm currently training for and prepping for the next big one which is gonna blow your minds! In the meantime I hope you guys enjoy these fun adventures I'm on continually pushing myself to the limit. I'm also currently in JAPAN so let me know if you want me to do anything over here! I'm taking requests for insane adventures 😜

You made me curious to at least look into that lifestyle, thanks (:

      Maddy Gowers i mean I felt the same way as you but people can eat what they want. I don't really find it THAT ridiculous anywhere seeing as there are good foods I watched her eat. It's more so difficult to achieve especially if u don't have access to certain markets or restaurants like she did. Idk it's just something I wouldn't mind trying out more. Or just incorporating some of the foods into my diet more often cuz lord knows I could use some more plant based recipes in my diet. I respect your opinion tho!

      Hey_ItzHolly Vegan is not a diet. It's a lifestyle. A plant based diet is a diet! They are two totally different things. Someone that is Vegan does not allow any animal or animal by-product into there life from food to beauty products etc. someone who eats a plant based diet may allow animal or animal by-products into there life.

    • @eileenloves4802

      I am a very high raw vegan and I just loved this video! I think she did a really great job! She could have acted like she was dying and turned people off of veganism forever, but instead she was so positive and truly looked for all the good! I have never seen her before, but I will sub, just for this video alone! and Hey its Holly, you really need to grow up! Veganism is so far from being a diet, it is a way of life. You need to watch Cowspiracy! Did you know that it takes over 600 gallons of water to make just one burger?Vegans are literally saving the planet! I would rather not torture animals their whole lives and then murder them just to eat their stress, fear and anxiety hormones and clog up my body with carcinogenic dead animals. I always laugh at people who say "well, we all have to die sometime, I would rather eat what I want" ...... This statement is so idiotic to me because if you knew just how good eating truly healthy made you feel, you would not be questioning a vegan diet. I will not live forever, but at least I will feel alive while I live! I know so many people that have 10 different diseases and are going to the doctor every month to get stabbed by needles to take more blood from their sick bodies from eating too many animal products and the doctors wont tell you this because keeping you sick is how they make money!

    It's so heart warming to see a meat eater embrace the vegan diet and not come from a place of full-on judgment. Your skin in this video is glowing, you are radiating such good vibes. If I could super like this video I would girl! xx

    • @crazywaffleking
      @crazywaffleking 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      It would be heart warming to see a vegan try a non-vegan diet for a week. Vegans are so ignorant and intolerant. If I invited a vegan to dinner at my home they would expect me to make vegan food, if I went to their home it would be vegan food. Someone who always demands to get their way is a douchebag.

    • @kevinpeterson188
      @kevinpeterson188 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      crazywaffleking most vegans have tried non-vegan diets for like 20 years before they went vegan lmao. Not eating meat as a VEGAN is a moral, ethical decision, not a decision having to do with simply a type of diet or food choices. your proposal is ridiculous and you need to get over your weird hatred for vegans in order to truly understand what it’s about.

    • @kevinpeterson188

      Mel comment above mine. mistag. sorry

    • @redwineandagingerale
      @redwineandagingerale 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      crazywaffleking first of all, most vegans had a 'normal' diet before they went vegan, there's not too many people who are raised vegan. And secondly, veganism is a lifestyle, it's about animals, the environment and your own health. Vegans don't want to harm animals so it doesn't make sense for for them to have meat again to try it out. They feel like it's morally wrong.

    • @gbasai2242
      @gbasai2242 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      crazywaffleking I wasn't born a vegan. When me and my husband visit other people homes we bring our own vegan food and all our visitors are happy to eat vegan food.

      Hey Ro, I have! The funniest/most frustrating moments are when I travel to Latin America and the servers don't understand how or why I want to order something without meat or dairy 🤦🏻‍♀️😭
      In one occasion, I asked if a menu item could be made without cheese. The waiter assured me they could. When they brought the plate it had cheese so I let the waiter know. He reluctantly took it away to bring me a plate without cheese, or so I thought... I bit into it and unfortunately they sneaked cheese inside. When I let the waiter know it had cheese, he got mad at me and with an unpleasant tone told me "You knew the plate had cheese. It says it on the ingredients. Why did you order it?"
      I was so upset the rest of the dinner. I don't try to make anyone's life harder. That's why I asked before ordering it ☹️

    I agree it is not fair to judge people by what they eat. My seven-year-old son has celiac‘s disease, Try going out to eat ordering off the kids menu or the adult menu and not ordering something where wheat, rye or barley... or having your food made and not experience a cross contamination issue... he doesn’t understand why he can’t go out to eat like other people.

However, when you live in the beef capital of the United States, sometimes it's hard to find people who understand what you're going through. And just having people around you that you can talk to about veganism without feeling like you're pressuring them to go vegan or making them uncomfortable

    I was a vegetarian for 3 years before I went vegan 2 years ago. Best decision I've probably ever made. It changed my life- instilled in me a greater patience, and appreciation for what I have to work with, and helps me practice humility every day, which leaves me feeling very grounded and peaceful. I do it for the animals, which only makes it that much more easy. I feel like just as a diet in general, it might be more tempting to say "just one slice of pizza won't hurt..." and then you're always back and forth with it. But when you do it because it's who you are/in alignment with your values, it's very easy to just let go of what goes against your beliefs, and embrace all the new options! You're not kidding when you say it's less like you're focused on what you gave up, and more about trying all kinds of new things. And eventually those new things just became my normal life, and I really don't feel inconvenienced. Thank you for being respectful, maybe I will try to go raw for a week and see what happens : )

    Ive been vegan for over a year (never strictly raw), but this video was so kind and open to veganism!! Thank you SO much! I opened this expecting a lot of complaints😂, but im so glad to see you educated yourself about it beforehand & got help from people! Also just for some insight🤗: raw vegans usually arent trying to follow harsh meal plans and be super strict about their diet, but they are usually raw because they live in the tropics and have many fruits and vegetables in abundance! Aka, i wouldnt say its a diet that many people willingly practice, unless they already have a surplus of those foods on hand! Also a very important part of eating raw/mainly raw foods its to EAT A LOT! The food is water-rich and not very calorically dense, so you have to eat bigger amounts of food to get enough calories (or just eat higher calorie foods like nuts, seeds, bananas, dates etc)!! If you eat enough calories, you will feel sustained and not crave unhealthy foods, though it can sometimes be hard to get enough calories😁 Thank you for being so open minded and kind! Awesome video!!😄😄💗

    • @lumi6739
      @lumi6739 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      i mean,, vegan or even raw vegan aren't really extreme. fruitarian on the other hand, is VERY extreme and should be thought of as just that

    • @zweks
      @zweks 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Raw vegan is extreme, consuming "chemicals" isn't anormal, think about it you're taking dihidroxide monoxide, a corrosive substance that literally wears down pipes...also known as water.
      Chemicals in foods are not bad, chemicals are part of what food is, if they didn't have chemicals it would literally be nothing, not even air.
      A the problem of a raw diet is the amount of fruits (general fruits, including vegetables) you gotta keep fresh to substain yourself, and it also tends to be deficient in vitamins and minerals such as B12, calcium, vitamin D and depending on how much you eat you could evem have a negative caloric income, good for when trying to lose weight, bad for when you're just existing you know
      Im glad she went and saw a professional first, but i still feel like his advice wasnt that helpful.
      And no, cooking doesn't suddenly make your fruits less powerful (most of the time) so no real reason for a raw vegan diet but for convenience

  • @racoonslovepie

    I really appreciate what she says at 4:19 because I have experienced the social pressures and the unspoken judgement I receive whenever I go out to eat with people who do not share the same diet as me. It got to the point where I would stop eating out with friends because I always felt like a burden or I would feel embarrassed because I knew the waiter was judging me differently. I, personally, have never met one of those vegans who are considered to be annoying, but I understand that some of my friends have. It just doesn't make sense to me how just because there are some annoying people, you're going to treat me exactly how you don't want to be treated. It got to the point where I would never tell people about my diet until we were at a restaurant or I went to their home and I didn't eat anything and so they would ask me. Then they would feel bad because I could not eat anything, and I feel bad because I didn't tell them, but what if I did? Would I be labeled a crazy and conceited vegan? This lifestyle is so important to me because it's a way for me to practice what I preach. It's a way for me to stick with my morals. At this point in my life, I am struggling with finding what I'm passionate about. I have little confidence in my skills in college and I have no idea what I am doing with my life. But this diet is so important to me because this is something I can control. This is something I stand for and I can actually do something about it and it makes me feel good. I finally have a friend who is vegetarian so it made everything a little bit easier to handle. But I just really appreciate those people who don't make me feel bad for my choices and support me no matter what. Thanks Michelle

      Which is strange because I omit animal products and byproducts in my food sometimes simply because I don't like it, some people ask me why I do it and I tell them why, I don't like the taste. I don't feel any social pressures to eat what I don't like and sometimes eat the exact same things a vegan would. I have no idea what she's talking about and I've seen it from both sides, no one cares, and people typically don't care.

      Theo Lestrange Personally I don't criticize veganism, but I do criticize vegans. Not all vegans, but most vegans are arrogant pricks who hate all meat eaters, push their diet onto others and are just rude. It is just how it is. The general idea of veganism I understand and I don't care what people eat, but when those people become arrogant I can't stand them, doesn't matter if someone is vegan or not.

      I dont hate vegans at all. Sometimes I find that some vegans are very judgmental of anyone who doesnt share their beliefs. I have been called a rapist and murderer of animals because I eat meat occasionally. Again, I know not all vegans are like this, i just dont care for the ones that are.

    I was strictly vegan for 3 years (and ovo-lacto veg for 5 years previous to that) and I loved that you mentioned the social pressure. I hated going out to eat with friends because of all of the substitutions that I would have to make, and I was living in WYOMING (among other rural locales)!!!!! I've been a vegan-leaning omnivore now for 5 years (since moving in with my husband who was not willing to go vegan and I respect that), but I have to say: I never felt better than when I was not consuming meat, eggs, and dairy. Dairy especially. Also I really liked that at the end of the video you acknowledged that it's not about "giving up" things in your diet. I always explained it as substitution rather than deprivation.

    Honestly the first video about a vegan challenge I have ever seen where the person didn't complain the entire time. I fr respect you so much just because of they way you worded everything. Also how you explained that even though you do cut out a out of food you get to enjoy other healthier options that taste so amazing. And I relate hard core to the bitchy waiter thing. Haha every time they look at me like i'm a freak just because I ask for no cheese on a salad lmao.

    "People just think about you cutting out a lot of food and thinking oh you can't eat a lot of food.. but really you get to experience eating really cool other things" SO true. I'm not a vegan but I live with vegans and people always expect me to say it's awful. Honestly, it has opened my mind to a whole new culinary world. Would I have ever known before that the juice from chickpea cans can substitute eggs? No! But it can, and it's amazing. Most people have no idea about this whole other side to creative food.

    Thank you for making this video. You had a really good attitude and approached the topic with respect and curiosity. When you were talking about becoming part of a community, and how happy you were at that last restaurant, I nearly had tears in my eyes! The only other thing I would have liked to see would be you looking at ethical issues surrounding food. Vegans aren't vegan just for the hell of it: We see deep moral problems in the institutions and industries that commodity animals, and we want to minimize the amount of suffering our actions cause. Sometimes it's hard to live by our values without coming across as pushy and annoying.

    I'm vegan, and I find raw veganism to be impractical and unnecessary. Cooked food is not a bad thing. Veganism is good for ethical, health, and environmental reasons. If you want to learn more about this, I recommend watching some of Unnatural Vegan's videos, as she used to be a raw vegan, and now maintains a vegan diet that includes cooked food.

      From my own (vegan) perspective, I find raw cuisine rather boring. I’ve been regularly eating raw vegan foods for 4 years now and I do enjoy them. But they are very acidic. Not every single food is like that. But the staples, raw fruits, vegetables and leaves, are almost always sour. Constantly eating cold and acidic foods for the rest of my life is not something I would do without a serious reason.
      And there is not a single reason to do this. As a vegan, I can meat my daily protein requirement (80 g) for a ridiculous price - less than 1 €/$. For a raw vegan, this would be an equivalent of a couple of bananas. Good luck with that.

    Me & my friends are all vegan and we still eat honey haha, it's kind of a toss up in the community. The way I see it, we are working on ways to harmlessly get honey from beehives (honey is literally bee vomit lol). Bee farmers take their colonies to fruit and vegetable farms to pollinate the foods naturally. Bees are currently dying out because of pesticide use, and the only thing that can make honey are bees, so you keep up the demand for honey, companies are going to have to figure out how to keep bee populations in high numbers. IDK other people can disagree, I don't really care, but local honey is super easy to find, tastes great, and makes it so at least a few people out there are really trying to keep bees alive!! Without them we would have to eat wind-pollinated foods, and I love my fruit and veg!!!!

      The "gluten free" fad has definitely killed things for folks with celiac disease. Especially since "gluten sensitivity" was debunked. So when I see friends post about being "gluten sensitive", but they don't actually have celiac disease, I just shake my head. Studies found that people who claim to be "gluten sensitive" aren't responding to the gluten, but other ingredients that are usually in foods containing gluten. Very different from celiac disease.

    When eating plants you need to eat a larger volume of food because plants are calorically less dense. I applaud you for giving this a good go. Myself and my family are vegan and it's the best thing we've ever done. I was the worst sleeper ever before too, going vegan I slept like a rock, amazing! I really like how you approached this! Most people in similar videos spend the whole time complaining about missing animal products, or how it's hard, so it was really nice seeing someone with a more positive perspective trying it. And don't get me wrong, it is less convenient than a standard diet, and you can miss animal products at first, but that's not all there is to it, you feel me? I also like how you acknowledged that it's easier for you than it is for people in other areas.

    I loved this video so much, you captured veganism so well. The biggest aspect I appreciated was the social one. Everyone always asks me what I wish I could eat but I honestly don't crave non-vegan foods, the hardest part of being vegan is socially (not being able to eat with friends, weird looks, etc.) and you covered that amazingly.

  • @hostile_egg
    @hostile_egg 7 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      It is an emotional topic because Food is a social thing for us human and non-human animals.
      Now, my recommendation, from a long time Vegan is to be strong and not to focus on those petty things. Think on your reasons for going Vegan. If you are an ethical Vegan, like me, remember that the animals don't care what other people think. The only thing they care is that you don't eat them :) Stay strong! :)

      Sawyer Lei I guess it depends on the person, personally I never need to tell people I'm vegan or have ever had too in social scenarios(unless they ask I'm not gonna keep it secret) but I'm sure it can be hard for some people. I’ve been vegan for over 3 years and high fruit mostly raw diet for 3 months (during which I have been literally aging in reverse and feel better than ever!). I just got my blood work done and my protein is actually above average even though I never supplement protein or make a point to eat high protein foods. You don’t need protein, you need the amino acids, the building blocks of protein, which are much easier for your body to use. Also I have no idea what you are talking about “taking enzymes” I hope you are not referring to digestive enzymes which are horrible to take. Your body produces digestive enzymes on its own and if you regularly supplement them, your body will stop making them.

It quickly becomes more of a regular part of life though. If you are considering becoming vegan or vegetarian, I highly recommend looking into how animals are treated and what happens to them before they're slaughtered. It makes it easier if you can remember why you are doing this.
