Summary
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2011-2012 Kia Sportage vehicles. The engine oil pan may leak and, if not addressed, the loss of oil may result in engine damage.
Consequence
A damaged engine can increase the risk of a fire or it can cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Solution
Kia has notified owners, and dealers will replace the oil pressure switch with an improved one, free of charge. In addition, dealers will inspect the oil pan for any oil leaks, replacing it if necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 3, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC174.

This is Bryant Bernard, I finally got my engine replaced on my 2013 kia Optima hybrid. After getting my car back from the dealer. My car wouldn't pass smog because the engine light kept coming on after going to the dealer over & over again. Once twice in the same day. The code from the smog shop was p0014. The dealer kept resetting the light and not fixing the problem. Finally I got it fixed after talking to the service manager at kia of Carson Ca.
No cars last forever but kias don’t last at all 😂 I’m not buying another Kia ever again. I’m thankful I’ve never had any major problems. The only thing is the power steering died about a month ago. The part (steering column) is ~$800 and labor will be hella high. I checked the coupler ($6) myself. Still good. I checked the steering module myself ($25) still good. The last thing is the torque sensor in the steering column and that is expensive. I’ve seen it on eBay starting at $90, but I don’t want to waste $90 with no guarantee it will fix the problem.
This happened to me and I kept replacing the oil well before the dates on the oil change sticker. In August it started knocking really badly then stalled when I was driving up a hill. It went into limp mode then started shaking and jumping badly, it wouldn't drive above 30 mph. I got it towed to kia and they replaced the knock sensor after a few weeks I got it back and the day I drove out the dealership the check engine light came back on. I had to leave it there for 2 more weeks. Flash forward to November I'm driving on the freeway and the car does the same thing but this time I'm going like 70 mph when it stalls. I'm able to make it off the freeway and call a town thank God!! After weeks of calling I'm told I'm approved for a new engine. It takes a month for me to get my car back. The dealership has no loaners so I had to rent one using my own money. I just submitted a claim with Kia for the previous repairs and rental cost . There service department is terrible. Had my car for 3 months to replace coil packs and had no loaner.

Thanks , my oil was change in November, light came on , no oil reading on stick, took it to dealer, they Chaim its oil reading when they check it, I had a mechanic check it he said something going on inside the engine.

A few weeks after my Kia soul oil light came on, I sprung an oil leak. Diagnosis; oil pressure switch leaking. Replaced switch and oil light is now off. Has been off for four days.
Here's what Hyundai sent me. Pointless since I already have a 150k warranty thru Carmax. I'm at 111,000 miles now.
"The Powertrain warranty coverage for certain engine repairs and/or replacement where the engine damage, defect, or failure is related to connecting rod bearing wear, has been extended to 15 years, 150,000 miles from the original retail delivery date or date of first use, which ever occurs first and is valid for original and subsequent owners.
The affected vehicles are certain 2011-2012 Santa Fe equipped with 2.4L Theta II MPI engines; certain 2011-2013 Sonata Hybrid vehicles with 2.4L Theta II 2.4L MPI Hybrid engines; certain 2016 Sonata Hybrid vehicles with 2.0L Nu GDI Hybrid engines; and certain 2012-2017 Veloster vehicles with 1.6L Gamma GDI engines.
Your Hyundai dealer will replace the engine short block assembly at no cost if the engine damage, defect, or failure is related to connecting rod bearing wear.

I have a 2016 Kia Optima EX and I've had this issue in the past and had it recently as well. My oil light indicator comes on only when I press hard on the break. It doesnt come on when I start the car or when I'm driving. It got to the point where my car wouldnt start and my breaks were locked (for safety measures I suppose) I jumped started it and took it to get it checked. They said it was my battery which was confusing as to why my oil indicator came on if it was my battery. They changed my battery and everything worked fine for about about a couple of weeks. The indicator came on again so I decided to change my oil filter, drain and change the oil. The indicator has been off ever since until a couple of days ago it came on again. I'm wondering now if i have to replace my oil pressure sensor or oil pump. Any suggestions is much appreciated

@@mattmor_i2267 Take your car in and have them check your engine. I took mine in to get a diagonistic since I wasn't sure what was going on with my car. I told the guy that I heard there were a lot of recalls on KIA engines. He said yeah that he would check on it. Long story short, he came back and said my engine was knocking. They replaced my whole engine for FREE.
Yeah my 2016 Kia EX burns oil. It's a issue. Changed my oil plug was leaking. But still burned oil. Changed the pvc valve. Same result. It did not just come on but when I was pulling into my jib the light flickered. Check your oil as much as possible. Even though synthetic oil is good over the 3000 mile oil limit just get it changed every 3000 miles.

I have 115k miles didn't know about the recalls on my vehicle.
They told me I do not qualify for the new engine because I didn't have the update done.
Is there anything I can do as far as qualifying for the engine?

Hey! I'm out in Cypress and I've been having a burning oil issue too. I changed the PSV valve or whatever it's called, but that seems to have not fixed it. Also, I use synthetic in my 2016 Optima and haven't noticed any leaks either, but I'm not getting any oil light. What came of your experience? My issues started below 70k mileage.
It’s a recall related issue but nothing can be done until the engine goes out. Your first step to secure that you get your engine replaced is to contact “beck and masten” Kia and schedule your appointment to get your KSDS software installed. Once you got that if anything happens to your car they gotta replace the engine.
Also check the valve cover cause they leak really bad and will go out. If you. Can trade it in for a Toyota or Lexus or Honda and get rid of the headache
@@StraightOuttaContent I actually think I did the KSDS install a few years ago actually out at Tomball Beck & Masten. I literally just paid this car off last month and was intending to ride it until the wheels fell off, so if the engine can be covered for replacement under a warranty then I might just hang onto it. I don't drive much now either due to working remote.

@@StraightOuttaContent so I called Beck & Masten and the lady said my VIN has no recall alerts and my warranty expired at 60k miles. I was very skeptical, so I was coming back here to ask if maybe I need to approach them differently. In the process I saw you listed Kia's #, so I just called them and they indeed said my vehicle is covered under a lifetime extended warranty program related to that recall issue regarding connecting rod bearing issues and knock sensors. Now, I'm just feeling like the dealership is being shady, so I'm going to call Joe Myers and see how they respond to my inquiry to compare Beck & Masten vs. Joe Myers service departments. Maybe it was an honest mistake from Beck & Masten, but it seems you have to have your guard up around dealerships and mechanics.

Check engine light flashing and engine going in to derate is the only warning of engine failure.
Hey brother so I've been following you for awhile I also have a 2015 Kia Optima SIM card is yours I went through the whole process while you have been through today I experienced a engine light blinking off and on before that I had a solid engine and they were telling me it was the coil or my spark plugs but I get home today and the engine light starts blinking on and off do you have any idea what happened what's your place? Im not sure about an engine light blinking. If thats the case you will have to contact your local kia dealership.

My oil light is coming on my 2018 Kia Sportage , no light , oil leaks , Kia just change my oil seven days ago . I put 250 miles on it .

I have a 2018 optima I bought new. Switched to full synthetic at 70,000 miles. At 73,000 my oil light came on. Brought in to dealer shortly after, said they don’t notice any leaks. Then next oil change, it lasted 2,000 miles before I noticed I’m low on oil. Brought in and they said I. Have a cracked oil pan, this was a different dealer than before. Changed my oil pan and said come back if I think it’s still burning oil. Well I made it 700 miles before I was almost 2 quarts low. They cleaned my engine and then drove it 1,000 miles. Said I was only a quart low and kia considers that fixed. Lmao
I Have A 2015 Optima . I Work From Home , Barely Drive It & It Constantly Burns Oil . There’s No Oil Leaks . & I Also Only Use Synthetic Oil . I Do Have The KSDS Installed & I’ve Taken It To Kia Several Times . Soo Friday My Car Cuts Off In The Middle Of Traffic & Would Not Come Back On . It Literally Clicks When I Try To Start It . SMH The Oil Light & Engine Light Did Not Flash Until My Car Cut Off SMH . So At Least Your Light Came On . Since It’s A Holiday , I Have To Wait To Speak With Someone In The Morning . Update Almost 4 Weeks Later .. 🤦🏾♀️ I Called Kia After The Holiday & Was Told That I Needed To Schedule An Appointment . Next Available Was 09/24. I Was Told I Could Do A Walk In , But It’s First Come , First Serve . So I Just Waited 3 WEEKS For My Appointment . So I Go To My Appointment , Pay $160 To Have My Car Towed Up There & The Lady Is Like She Can’t Accept My Car Because It’s First Come , First Serve For Tow In . So I Explained I Had An Appointment & She Was Still Giving Me Pushback , Eventually After I Went Off A Little Bit They Accepted My Car . Which I Don’t Understand The Issue , If I Had An Appointment 🙄. Anyways Fast Forward To Today , I Get A Call From The Kia Dealership & They Ordered A New Engine & I Will Not Have To Pay For Anything ... Yayyy .. Right ?! Here’s The Kicker ... Kia Is Backed Up On So Many Engine’s Right Now It Is Going To Be A 2 Month Turn Around & Kia Will Not Pay For Any Rentals Unless They Are Actively Working On The Vehicle 🤦🏾♀️ . So That Is What The Lady At The Dealer Told Me . I Am Going To Call Kia Manufacturer Because That Is Unfair To Have People Without Vehicles For Long Periods Of Time & It’s Their Fault . My nephew has a 2016 Kia soul + and it has 63,000 miles. He got it 8 months ago. The only thing that happened is the oil light came on. He had no prior engine lights or currently no other engine lights just the oil. The car would not start just click. Had it towed to a local car shop they said the engine is seized. They suggested to take it to the Kia dealership so we had it towed to the Kia dealership. They can't even look at it for a few weeks. I see a lot of info on Kia optimas, Sorrento's, etc but not too much on the Kia souls. Have you heard anything about kia souls doing this? I live in Houston and he's in the Beaumont area so it's hard for me to help from so far. I'm just trying to figure out if Kia will actually do anything to help him. The only advice I've gotten so far is the TSB report but that can't even be done till they look at it. Meanwhile he has no vehicle to go to work and has a family to provide for. I'm at a loss here.

If i go low gear and high speed the oil light comes on
In gear six in motorway if i drive faster than 57 MPH the ligh comes on and i have to slow down to bring it to 55_57 MPH in order the goes off
It's very stressful in motorway to drive that slow
I had to change my oil pressure switch. You might have to do the same, but you need to call your local dealer and make sure you have the ksds on that car before the engine gets any worse
Have a 2016 Kia Optima. Engine oil consumption problems since 50,000 miles. Been the most garbage car ever. Everything has failed and Kia won’t replace engine after It was “fixed” from engine flush that didn’t help. Now they won’t even see me for service or answer my calls. Kia was the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. Your best bet is to go to dealer to handle It or you will waste time with consumer affairs.
It's the freaking dealer kia not putting enough oil in vehicles, same thing happens me the light came out, no leaks , my car dnt burn oil, I checked my oil, my shit was on empty
Same issue with my 16 optima at 75k miles. Got the run around from the dealer and Kia consumer affairs. Never buying Kia again.

My car was just doing the same thing but mainly If I hit a pot hole but I took it in for an oil change the mechanic told me I had burned a two quarts of oil and it was burning oil fast so I call the Kia dealership and I have 7 recalls on my 2013 Kia Optima so I’m dropping it off Monday to get everything fixed
