I had the very same problem. Auto repair place quoted $700 because they would have to remove the panel and send it to a certified repair place. They said it had something to do with the odometer. I used the 25 pound telescoping magnet from Harbor Freight that I already had. I took me longer to disassemble the magnet from the pole then to fix this issue using this method. Be sure to put the magnet behind the needle and push it and twist the magnet as you go around. It took 20 seconds to swing the needle around and tested it successfully.
Incredible! I changed the sending unit with temp help - Then - after the needle pegged "underneath" the stop, I reverted to the magnet - went identically to your video - and the guage began to operate normally - we'll see how long it lasts - 8-4-2020
Omg!!! It worked for me. I’m so grateful to you. 💕🤗💕 I had my oil changed and a new battery put in and when I picked up my car The gas gauge was not working!!! I called them and they said bring it back in and leave it again!!! I’m done with them. Thanks again. Made my week. 🎊🎉
Believe it or not it just happened to be a day ago. And I didn't know what to do just do the next step and go inside the dash board. Until I went on TH-cam and seen your magnificent trick with a magnet and it damn sure working like a charm. Thanks my friend for the awesome technic.👍👍👍👍👍👍
Theres a key on and off sequence for some models that are programmed to "sweep" the needle back over it's a "reset guage needle" function, my wife's jeep the speedometer needle flipped over when she turned the key over, literally fixed it in 30 seconds using the sequence, only ever had to do it once way back so dont remember what the sequence was but I found it on a forum
Alright bud, neat trick. It worked on my oil gauge so you got your thumbs up. Got a trick for the speedo? Same problem. When I changed out the bulbs it fell to the other side. I was hoping not to have to take it apart again.
Great trick. My case was a little different in that I had no peg to get stuck on, and it was past 80 on the gauge after an oil change at Oil Well (it's an old car so not blaming them). So I used your magnet trick to put it down as close to zero as I could get it, and it did float up to about 40. But the next day I started and and the needle went down to zero on startup, and then up to about 50 which is where it always ran before the oil change. Now it seems to be running correctly. Thank you.
Cool trick, that being a ford, in this application, that is not a pressure "gauge", it's a low pressure light with a sweep hand instead or a light. check the wiring diagram, it will have only wire at the sending unit. On or off. The needle does not show more "pressure" when engine speed is increased. Still a great fix.
I don’t doubt that the magnet repositioned the needle but that doesn’t mean that the reading is correct and that there is proper oil pressure. Why did the needle go around to the wrong side of the peg in the first place!
Just fixed the fuel gauge on my 2002 S10 Blazer. I used a magnet from an old microwave oven. just put the magnet over the gauge and wow took 30 seconds.
On fords to do a gauge sweep hold the odometer button down and turn they key to stage two twice not starting, it’ll give a message saying gauge sweep then will sweep they gauges afterward. To take it out of test mode simply remove key and put back in ignition
Guess work😅 He wanted it to work, I also wanted it to work, it worked then he said he can't believe it worked 😅😅😅 On my way to purchase a magnet. Thanks buddy
Gotta love those Ford oil "pressure" gauges, which they're indeed not. If you notice they go to one position only when the car is running, even if the engine is barely running, it will show the same reading. This is due to multiple class-action lawsuits against Ford for low oil pressure readings. So for decades, this "pressure" gauge is only a "switched gauge" and is either on or off, nowhere inbetween.
ima try that on my 2003 ford ranger same problem..as yours..going to buy magnets in the morning. would it work for gas gauge??.I will comment results...definite geniuse move...thx
so why isn't this affecting any of the other needles? I could imagine this might cause induction current to flow in the little electric motors, or these are likely magnetic drag indicators, but none of the other ones move when you're right next to them.
My mom 2005 Chevrolet Venture gas Guage and water temp Guage are malfunctioning. The gas needle is way passed the E. There is no needle level stopper like yours. The fuel pump is new. Any suggestions? We already tried the magnet method.
@MattsShop and what might that be? My glass is sealed right up to the edge. It sucks. I'm trying to get my boost gauge to work and it's stuck below the normal range. Not even my strongest magnet stick can get it to move behind the glass, and removing that glass means you gotta remove the whole dashboard.
To bad someone already did this trick long ago now let’s see you pull a motor and redo timing chain guides? Didn’t think so. Sorry not trying to be rude. But there’s actually a lot of people that actually knows about this trick especially on Fords
Yes but u r rude he's just showing the rest of the world that doesn't know. Why dont you go fly kite u rude mfer. Let's see u not being rude sorry didn't think so. Hey everytime u think your big man on the block trust me there's always someone bigger and tuffer than u lemon head. Nesc time watch ur ps and QS pin head.
I've rebuilt engines and done timing jobs. I had no idea about this trick. It's going to work great on my recently purchased ranger that has a bad engine. Don't be so hateful!
@@MattsShop ya I told another guy on another channel about it, and he laughed at me an basically made a joke of it. Like I'm so dumbass lol. Work easier not harder. Haha

My car keeps giving me the overheating level when it's not, and I tried it, it works 👍👍

Woah, that's really good to know! I'm sure that trick won't work on a old truck like this though.

I don't know about the speedo. Probably have to take it apart and fix it.
Definitely trying this out anytime from now when they return my car,my fuel gauge stuck on zero

A lot of people keep saying this. I need to check that. Pretty crazy, always thought it was a gauge.
Never knew that but have noticed that they are usually halfway or nothing, makes sense.
Yes it will show a higher level when engine rpm is increased... That's basic knowledge
I don’t doubt that the magnet repositioned the needle but that doesn’t mean that the reading is correct and that there is proper oil pressure. Why did the needle go around to the wrong side of the peg in the first place!

That was so awesome, does it work for the gas guage as well???
Flipped mine about a year ago but it flipped back once latter still easy fix, then ended up replacing cam sensor and IAC valve and never did it again.
Probably the little wire/connector was loose, and you got a better connection messing with it.
On fords to do a gauge sweep hold the odometer button down and turn they key to stage two twice not starting, it’ll give a message saying gauge sweep then will sweep they gauges afterward. To take it out of test mode simply remove key and put back in ignition
My 2006 trailblazer has the same issue. I’m gonna go outside and try it now! God bless you if this works! Thank you so much for sharing
You're welcome! Let us know if it worked!
Also I wanted to add. The trick was performed on 2003 ford explorer sport XLT
drill a small hole in the plexy glass. then take a paper clipe and push it back up that way
It's already got a hole
Thank you ! 2024 and this video still helpful
You're welcome!
Badass brotha! Definitely going to give this a shot!
Give it a shot.
My speedometer was stuck i got a ice pic got it hot push throw plastic made a small hole got a pipe cleaner this works.
Lol a melted hole in the plastic would drive me crazy!!
That's great, for a stuck needle. What about a needle that's constantly all over the place while driving?
The fuel sending unit in the tank is most likely bad.
@@MattsShop Cool. I'll check it out. Thanks. 👍
IT WORKS ❤
Awesome!
Can you use a magnet to fix a broken fuel gauge on a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring?
Try it and see! If your fuel sending unit is bad. It won't work though.
You're a genius!!!
I Can't believe this worked for me! Thanx!
You're welcome!
What kind of magnet
Any kind, stronger the better.
That was awesome man my gas hand is stuck on e even though I have a full tank
In hawaii, we say "Maika'i", which means clever or smart. We also say "Mahalo", which means thank you very much. 🤙🏾
Love that! You're welcome!
Im going to try this method soon... is there a magnet in every fuel meter?
Idk there are little motors behind the gauges with magnets in them so probably.
Guess work😅
He wanted it to work, I also wanted it to work, it worked then he said he can't believe it worked 😅😅😅
On my way to purchase a magnet.
Thanks buddy
This worked for me. It was the second time that I did it before it took.
Nice!

If the gauges are flipped like this it should work on the gas guage with the key off.
Oh I’ll try it today
Hello could you help. My 2003 4 runner has a blinking odometer and none of the gages work. Thank you. Any ideas?
Does it work with a gas gauge

Fantastic job
Thanks!
Wow it really worked for me thanks
Glad to hear that
I have a powerful magnet but the dash glass is too far from the needle any suggestions
Double up the magnets.
That was legit increds!!

What kind of magnet did you use. Where do I get one?
Neodymium bar magnets work best. Wrap it in a rag so it won't scratch. Amazon
@@MattsShop , thank you
It helped me a lot
How about if the gas and temperature gauge is on E and Lowest setting for the temp
Got any quick fixes for gas gauge not working?
It's probably the fuel sending unit that is bad. This won't fix that.
Wow ...just wow. Thank you
Dang I need to try this 😅
Can anyone find a comment that could possibly help this fella out. like the first one that pops in your head lmao
Show some love!
in speedo u need to change speedo cable
Yup, it won't work on that.
Does that work for the gas hand too or is it truly a gas tank issue
Yes I was trying to see if it works for the gas guage as well
does it work for the colt gauge as well?
Idk???
Thanks again for me to... Worked
AWESOME!
Yooooo im not the only person to do this to their ranger lol, i didn't look for this i just came across it lol
Thank you! They are saying this is fake smh.
Thanks brother 🙏
Any time
Cool trick!
Thanks!
Good job!!!!
Thanks!!
Thanks man
You're welcome!
Wow..Thumbs up for real
You're welcome 👍
God bless you sir
I will try tonight
It will work!
THANKS
not sure this is going to work on my 1970s tech but thanks anyway.
Great job
Awesome!!!!
Thank you. I fix my truck
Great!
Will this work with temp gauge
Maybe!
Do I on the key at the time that I fix it or turn it off
Pretty sure I did it off.
Looks like you suffering from limp needle syndrome it's pretty common easiest way to fix it is put the car in neutral and red line it five times
is it work in new genaration car
Prob not
I have a question can you help
Sure, about what?
I tried but didn't work please
My glass is slanted, and I don't have a strong enough magnet. Sad.
Yup, that's when you do the zip tie trick...
@MattsShop and what might that be? My glass is sealed right up to the edge. It sucks. I'm trying to get my boost gauge to work and it's stuck below the normal range.
