My 1999 Ford Ranger had issues with its gas gauge, It was easy to fix once I knew what to do.
Just bypass the anti slosh module! there are many videos on youtube about this, that's where I learned it. May not work for everyone.
This would cost hundreds of dollars IF the shop could even diagnose the problem correctly.
Another example of problems created by FORD's constant issue of over engineering the simplest things.
Great fix.
Thanks man.
Dude my odometer didn't even have the little circuit board. I got it at the junk yard installed it and it immediately worked.. thanks so much.. I suggest others to just get one at the junk yard before spending money in other methods like changing a fuel pump which was what one mechanic told me. I saved money and installed it in 10 mins.. thanks again 🙌🏻
I bought a 1997 Ranger 3 0 V6. The gas gauge wasn't working. I found this video and tried it. It's working perfectly now!! Thanks for the information.
Good Fix. Note - When looking at an electronics board, the chips, transistors, diodes, resistors, and ceramic capacitors seldom fail. However, the electrolytic Capacitors and the board contacts (I use a fingernail file to clean any corrosion off of them) are often the first to fail.
Wish I could get schematic for that board!
Some guy said Ford wants $200 for this part. It's actually a simple electronic circuit using parts anyone can get. Total parts on the board retail for around 5 bucks max. I don't want to fix mine, just bypassing it.
They don't call it a stealership for nothing. I got 4 anti-slosh chips at the junkyard for FREE.95 plus the $3 entry fee lol
I just fixed that pcb, it costs less than $7 in parts, works like a charm.
Do you info on what you did to repair it?
My truck has an oil pressure gauge which runs through the anti slosh module along with fuel. It has 8 contacts. Tried bypass with no luck. Could not buy new. Live up in northern Canada, so no used parts available. I ended up putting in oven for 7 minutes at 385 degrees. Works perfectly. For now anyway.
Necessity breeds invention. Thank God for rednecks.
HALLELUYAAAAAAAH IT WOOOOORKED!!!! Ur the best!!!!!
XD glad you got it working!
Well, in mine happens similar to yours almost showing me, in a lot of cases, full tank and sometimes show lower or half tank this is something that happens sporadically., i just check the fuel pump and is ok .,,,,I make this trick and unfortunately doesn't work the "check gauge" still on.
thanks for share.
I was watching GMM before I clicked on this video and really thought youtube was glitching or something... lol. Glad to see you're a fan.
I tried this today..my 97 ford ranger 4.0v6 4x4 had a fuel gauge that was stuck past full since before i bought the truck. The used dealership i got the truck from said they replaced the sending unit 3times trying to fix the fuel gauge .ive had the truck for over a year now. i was smelling gas fumes and had a gas leak. i took the bed off fixed the vapor valve line and fixed the leaky 90degree fuel line connector.i also took my fuel pump out to inspect the float it appeared that the float along with the pump was installed and such a turn or twist that the float was stuck on the side of the tank. after reinstalling . Magically my fuel gauge began to work. It showed i had a little over 3/4 tank of gas. As i drove about 150 miles the gauge did go down.i thought my troubles were over. How ever my fuel gauge would not drop below 1/4 tank of gas. i almost ran out of gas on my way home from pittsburgh as of now my gas tank has to be empty i drove about 240miles since it was at 3/4 tank. So i seen this video took my dash apart got the gauge cluster out. Took the Slosh circuit out and did the bypass trick as you showed it. reinstalled the circuit to test it. My gas gauge still was showing 1/4 tank. i removed the tape.tried again. same result. i looked at the circuit more closely .and it appeared maybe i should try to run the by pass wire a little different then you showed here. I jumped the first one close to the install plastic clip and the one directly next to it rather than skipping one. and with out the tape. And Boom my gas gauge needle dropped to just below the red line on empty. Next Step i will take is to put gas in the tank and see if my gauge will rise once again. will update if it works
Interesting, let me know if it works!
some wierd shit going on here lol. i have not gone to the gas station yet. but i did put about maybe a half of gallon of gas in from gas can. i truck wouldnt start before lol. so it started up as usual. and the way i wired the slosh module was making my rpm needle stick and not drop and check gauge light was on. So i reverted back to the way you showed and my fuel gauge went up to a half of tank.with the check gauge light still on. so i removed the wire and tape stuck it back in as it was normally . and im back to where i started showing a 1/4 tank of fuel when i know its not correct. So now im thinking the inner filler tube that sticks out of the thicker hose in the tank was a bit to close to the arm that the flost is connected to . it did seem to be contacting it when i checked it out i didnt think it would be a problem. now im wondering if there is a way to pull that inner fuel filler tube up an inch or two.
or im useing the wrong type of wire to try this. the wire i was trying to use was copper instead of the silver one you are useing
hhmmmm??
Tom Fontana The4 type of wire shouldn't make a difference. Does your gas needle move at all?
Engineering Nonsense . I took the pump out ,since the tank was empty I could now see a fuel pump filter laying in the bottom of the tank that someone had dropped and left in there. there was still a filter on the pump . I reached in the tank cut a few inches off of the filler tube. I set the pump back in and could see that the float now reached the bottom of the tank. I hooked the lines n wire harness back up. turned the power on and the gauge was. no longer at 1/4 tank. it was showing that it was in fact empty like the gas tank really was. So I drove and put 8 gallons of gas in. but the fuel gauge did not move from E
Im gonna send this to my kid just so i can get a phone call and hear the words "DAD"!
You're an effin' BOSS! Good lookin' out homie!
Question: how do you by pass the terminals on the left? Do you need to weld them?
good afternoon. I did the same procedure as you, but in my case, it did not work, I did not understand something, when you connected the wires, did you connect doi or three wires on the chip? and have a correct type of iron to connect the wires? because I called with a little piece of copper and it did not work .. if you can help me. hugs.
I just took mine out and the fuel gauge reads perfect. Hope it runs ok without the board
How’s it been?
You took it out completely?
@@evilamc1962 yeah. Update it didn’t help lmao
@@martinfrady3464 Nice brah 🤣🤣🤣
What do you do if the slosh module only has 5 connectors? (2 on one side and 3 on the other). I have a 99 ford ranger 3.0L.
Sir I replaced my fuel pump all in the gas tank. What I get the gas needle does not go up 2004 Ford .stays down on E a bit . Check gage lights up!
Even though I have more then half of gas in the tank.
My 91 expy almost always shows exactly 1/2 tank, not more or less. Very rarely will it work right, but when it does, it's accurate. I just used the trip odo and don't drive much past 300 miles before filling. Maybe I'll pull the cluster and take a look.
I thought you were about to say and I found a dog in the dash... haha
Going to try this asap, thanks for the video!
Hey man I broke my truck im going to have to sue you 😂
😀😀😀
Did you have a check engine light mines is a 02 it stays on full
What did you do
no shout out to Jennies garage where you got it from?
Did you have a check engine light?
Do all ford sport trac have an anti slosh module. Mine is a 2004 and all of a sudden gas gauge reads empty. My panel looks like the 1 in the video. Upon watching your video and showing it to my dad he took everything apart like in the video. A few scraped and bloody knuckles later finally got the instrument panel taken off to see 😞😟😥😭😢 there is no anti slosh module. No circuit board no nothing. Please help.
Ur awesome man worked like a charm on my 1995 ranger
I am glad to hear it!
I just replaced a bulb on my 2002 Ranger (has the same gauges on the dashboard as yours in the video) I accidentally broke the Gas Gauge Needle and now have a trouble code P0460 for a faulty gas meter. I cannot start the truck while on park and the switch to turn it on gets stuck. I was only able to start by putting it on Neutral (it's an Automatic). Do you suggest I replace the whole dashboard?
so your gauge cluster is busted? And you're sure that's the problem? go to your local salvage yard and find a truck/SUV (I believe the Ford explorer used some of the same parts as the ranged) with the same gauge and replace yours. that will be cheaper than buying one from dealer, but you must note that it must be programmed to work on your truck and won't just plug and play. do some research on it.
+Engineering Nonsense OK. I'm planning on doing that. It's just the gas meter gauge needle that I damaged and is not working properly. thanks
Would that also make the other gauges not work???
Mine is not going up or down or anything it's stuck literally right where yours is in the video. I can't tell if it's working or not but I also don't want to run it out of gas!
I just bought a 99 mustang GT and i was happy that I got it with a full thank turns out the gauge it's not working and it's stuck in full I'ma try this and see if it works
eduardo tumalan
99 are digital not analog like 98 and below
eduardo tumalan did it work
Little late but did you ever figure out why it was on full all the time??
I have a 1998 Ford Contour..The Gas Gauge,,and the speedometer seem to be connected. They both work sometimes and some times they both STOP working. Makes no sense to me...Maybe a bad ground ?? any idea what the cause might be ?
It sounds to me like your hunch is right. That would be my guess, but I can't say for sure, sorry.
I have the EXACT same problem on my 98 Ford Taurus. It was only going up to 50% when I had a full tank of gas, but it recently stopped working completely (now the gauge is stuck on full). Did your gauge also get stuck on full? I want to try this.
Mine got stuck on empty--But you should still try it.
+Engineering Nonsense Just finished. IT WORKS!!! My fuel gauge hasn't worked for at least 5 years. THANKS!
heck yeah! I'm glad that my video was able to help you! Enjoy knowing that you're not going to run out of gas.
I lied. It just failed the full tank of gas test. Instead of being stuck on full, now it's stuck on half. Maybe I need a new gauge or sending unit... I'm not sure.
my guess is the sending unit. the gauge sounds like it works fine as it has full range of movement. could also be a bad connection somewhere in-between.
Hi. Look I have the same trouble with my 2006 econoline 325 v8. And I didn't find the anti-sloch doing exactly what you did ... Could you lead me where to find it in this model??? PLEAS
Not sure, sorry :(
Got plenty of them at the junkyard.....grabbed 3 of them and will try to swap.
how do i replace the wiring for the speed & odometer? Both of mine arent working on my 98 ranger
my 95 Ford Ranger is a stick shift I love my old baby but my gas gauge is stuck on full and my mileage has not rotated since I got it I need to figure out how to fix mine so that's how I came across your video
There is a worm gear for the odometer that breaks. Check amazon or ebay for them. I got one for 6 dollars but i saw some for 17 also.
My gauge stays in the middle... did i do something wrong???
Its possible that this was not the issue in your case.
Engineering Nonsense yeah it does everything that your does... my tank is full and in a hill or something it doesnt move at all
Interesting... Let me know if you find the solution so I can post it here for everyone else.
i did the bypass but the gauge went to below empty again, do you have to reset the computer or disconnect the battery or something for this to work or is it just plug and play? thanks
Ll Lock it should be plug and play--hmm
damn that makes no engineering nonsense , i guess the float in the freaking tank must be off its joint. damn more work. thanks for the reply.
Ll Lock Haha that's how it goes. Best of luck.

I just removed my cluster and it doesn't have the anti slush board. 02 mustang convertible.....?????.....help me please
My Issue was a fuse 5amp #31 left side of dash 04 explorer sport trac.
Where did you get the led lights for the dash?
Do you mean my gauge cluster lights? I bought them on Ebay. They are Blue T10 LED replacement lights. They pop right into factory sports on gauge cluster.
They have error free now that's what I used on my ford
02 Explorer has a different cluster in the back, look the same from the front..
Was this your problem?
i literally just did this for my 95 ranger and now it wont mark how fast im going ?
Lol but this is for a Ford expedition tho
00:45...And uh... and uh....THERE WAS A FRICKIN DOG IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you jumping 2 to 4, 2-3 or...hard to tell in the picture. Thanks
Yup, 2 to 4
Will this work on a 1994 f150
I did that it worked thanks
My 99 ranger stuck on full check eng light came on also at the same time does that make sense?
What you did? i have the seme problem and the seme truck
@@elrompetrasero Haven't done anything the fuel guage is working now but CE is on/off
Excellent
I want to know where is the wire for the gas gauge
Is there any way to fix the module or could it be that the contacts are just dirty?
yes
What is the exact name of the pcb board?
Doc savage anti slosh module
For what year vehicles 🚗 this will work, I have 02 explorer same problem, but don’t have that little piece you shou tp by pass , any other way to fix mine ?? Please help
Mine wasn't working after that it only shows 1/2 tank when is full tank
I did this to my 97 and it only came up halfway with a full tank of gas
Exactly.
Does copper wire work?
My 1 is giving the readings problem is dat when it reach half tank the car stops and no deseal when I check
Wht u think I should try
Would my 2000 ranger have a low fuel light??
I'm really not sure, sorry.
yes i have a ford f150 1998 and when i get low on gas it gives me a light indicator stating "low fuel"
Rhett and Link ftw
+Thomas Poops MrTPoops Heck yeah!
Thanks bro..funcionó..!!
Where do u get wire from
Tore my dash apart on a 2000 Ford Expedition... doesn't have this on the cluster so save your time if you own one
Andy Sutterfield I believe this may apply only to rangers and explorers and a few other light duty fords. I didn't put that in the title because I really don't know at all.
Engineering Nonsense no big deal. It was easy to tear apart and I needed to do it anyways to fix the odometer. I only commented so that maybe someone with an expedition didn't waste their time. Thanks for the video
Andy Sutterfield thanks for the feedback!
Andddddd now I read this
Yeah I don't know about bypassing any kind of circuitry
I have a 95 ford mustang fuel gauge go's past full new pump and
Fuel level unit still shows full need help plz
Chris Hall
Check out my video on the topic I uploaded the vid for this reason
I try that didn't work, it was the sending unit on fuel pump went bad
Is that a pomapoo
Hi sir how to open the dash board
Even when I turn key off it dosent move. 99 Ford ranger
thank God for you tube....
My 99 7.3 f350 gauge ALWAYS shows full no movement could this be why?
Matthew Neathery I’m in the same boat as you
what kind a tape did u use?
It shouldn't matter much, but I used black electrical tape.
Marcos Garcia dude just steal it from a junk yard fits in your pocket.. don't use tape
agreed...it didn't work on my 90 ranger either
+DOGG78ful Not guaranteed to work, but it is one of many possible solutions.
Check out my video on the topic I uploaded the vid for this reason
My PC 1995 Ford courier dosnt have that.
Mine the odometer and thr rpm gauge not working
and uh.. and uh 😂😂 good video. i will be trying this
Fock off boomer
Thank you
How you spell it anti ____ module
Slosh
Like just because you were listening to earbiscuits
mine stays full
I appreciate his attempt to explain the situation but man could not figure out what the hell he was talking about
I made a short video on my repair. It may help.
He thinks this might help my situation I bet your dog helped. You figure it out loud.
Get out! I love that podcast! #earbiscuits

I fix my problem calling circuit board medics
Got plenty of them at the junkyard.....grabbed 3 of them and will try to swap.
Mine always says above full or below empty
how would I put the wire on there
i used honey
