My fuel gauge in my B5 is different. It works and all but here's how it reads. Remember I'm running pump E85. From a full tank to the ½ tank line I get 200 miles. From ½ to ¼ I get about 50 and after you can literally watch the needle move. Needless to say I fuel up soon after I get to the ½ tank point! I do still get 20 mpg on E85. I've been testing ethanol levels monthly(ish) for about 18 months now and it's always 80%. Also fun fact, I did a compression test on my 1.8T (not the built one) and it's at 75psi on all 4! I can't believe it still runs, and it runs good!
I’ve replaced the fuel pump twice on a 2010 challenger. The fuel sending unit was replaced twice. And both times it still read inaccurate. It’ll read half when it’s full, then all of sudden start reading full. Then when it’s at about 3/4 a tank it’ll tell me it’s at 1/2. And when it’s bellow 3/4 it will slowly drain down till it says empty in a few seconds.
This sounds like it could be a cable run issue such as a bad connection or poor earth. Or are you running 2000hp and have a heavy right foot so the poor gauge can't keep up with you? lol
I have a 2023 Ford Ranger. I swapped my factory 18 gallon fuel tank for an aftermarket 37 gallon tank. My tank registers full for around 300 miles then slowly goes down for another 500 to 600 miles. Once close to “0” miles left I fill up and still have 3 or 4 gallons in the tank. Any way to have it slowly go down consistently like normal an be accurate?
I just wish the needle was actually accurate for once… I had a 2013 Fabia vRS and sometimes I could do up to 100 miles before the needle even moved. Same goes for my 2018 Karoq it doesn’t move an inch until I’ve done about 100-150 miles then it seems to go down at a steady rate, how is it so difficult for manufacturers to get that right?
When i test the fuel sensor outside of the gas tank by pushing the float up and down the guage reciprocates accurately but as soon as i install it into the tank seal it up the guage starts giving me empty or quarter tank when its full. Could the gasoline effect the fuel sensor
Is the float actually working as a float? I've known these to actually fill and start to sink after a while which would explain why it works when you manually push but it's not happening inside the tank. There should also be very lilttle friction acting on the float. Sludge around the fuel pickup in the tank can also cause strange readings to happen.
@@torquecars gas tank is clean no sludge and friction is minimal as for the float i havent tested its floating ability in water or anything i just put it in the tank. Also this is a replacement pump made in china it pumps fine works sends fuel properly but i just cant get it to read the fuel level properly. It worked for like a day initially reading right then went all the way down from fullto empty replaced that pump with another same thing
Me to my brother I am struggling with them same problem for the whole week now, today I have tried to take out the tank to fix the problem, but all in vain, when the float is out side the tank is showing accurate reading, but the more I put it back to the tank it's the problem again 😢😢😢
Does the sender have just one wire? This relies on the tank providing the ground. If the connection between the tank and ground is failing this will cause similar symptoms. Which brand of car is this? Check for loose wires, bad connections. I've known some cars to need a new soldered connection on the earth for the fuel pickup to work.
Fuel gauges are NEVER accurate in my experience, even if they are digital. In my 2011 VW Golf, the needle won't move from full position until you've done 100 miles... Even better is when the needle is at Empty and the digital dash is saying 0 miles left of range, I drove for another 36 miles before the car conked out on me 😂😂

I just happen in my 2012 challenger replace both pumps filled the car up now it’s stuck on half a tank
Same wrangler 2021 in hot weather it plays up and down
My wife’s vehicle fuel gauge did not work and she was always running out of gas. Her vehicle needed a new fuel pump to replace sending unit.
