Thank you very much. Both my trusted mechanic and myself have been chasing a non-working speedometer/odometer issue on my 2000 Xterra. Yet, while I test drove it he could see vehicle speed on his scanner. After watching this I confirmed the original cluster and a donor cluster both work, in less than five minutes. Now I'm going to watch your vids on the VSS and it's wiring. Thanks again.
Yes, I have a 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8 and this video worked perfectly . I did exactly what you just showed and it worked . It reset . It was getting stuck on 0's while I was driving and my odometer was off . It reset.
Thank you so much! I have a QX56 Infiniti w/gauge cluster issues;watched diagnostics for this specific vehicle could not figure it out ;watched yours and worked out perfectly 👍
Thank you, I did exactly what you shared and it worked. The problem I have is that the display goes off plus all the others e,g, speed, revs, fuel level all of them. This happens intermittently, to rectify I have to press this same button a few times, for them to be restored.
Thanks for the info we have a 2006 in thailand and all speedo is intermittent and the fuel gage is same i will try this first to see if its the cluster first
Yes very helpful just to even know. Since dealership is saying they “aren’t sure” if fixing fuel gauge will also fix my also not working speedometer” and they say they have to send to fix the combination, which also might be related to cluster but not sure they say. Total costing me $800 too much for a “not sure this will fix the issues”
Stephanie V. ... Yeah, $600 is a lot to spend at the "Stealership", and not getting a definitive diagnosis is ridiculous... Is your vehicle a Nissan? If it is, have you tried the "test" in the video?
No I didn't test it since they were, my trusted mechanic outside of the dealership says that there's communication between cluster but he still cannot figure out why my speedometer & fuel gauge don't read properly...@@beachtroll8344
@@stephanie.8506 .. I also had a "trusted" mechanic that I would go to when I dudn't have time to do a repair myself... Until my speedometer & odometer stopped working for a second time about 3 years apart. .. I checked the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) which he previously repaired for $365.... I saw the wires came off the V SS connector...I just had to solder the wires to a new connector harness ($15)....Try to look at the Vehicle Speed Sensor on your vehicle and see if the wire(s) are not connected...It could be that simple
Thanks for the video. I assume the process didn't change for 2006 (G35). Going to try on son's car due to fuel gauge not being accurate before I move to the fuel sending units. The odometer and tripmeter are also very, very dim most of the time.

well. I thought I had a bad cluster on my 06 sentra but this self diagnositcs test shows all my guages are working. every once in a while the temperature guage starts acting up. typically when I am driving, my temperature guage is just below half. and it never deviates from that. however, now every once in a while it pops just a little bit above half and sits there. and at the same time, I am watching the temperature thru my torque cell phone app and a bluetooth ODBII scanner. and the temperature in torque hasn't moved. every once in a while when the guage is above half, it will spike up to hot. and again, if I look at the temperature in my torque app at that same time, it hasn't changed. I did a little experiment (while the temperature guage is acting up) and found something interesting. once the temperature elevated, I would TAP on the dash lightly with my finger right above the temperature guage. and guess what, the guage would then drop right back down to where it normally should be (just below the halfway mark). I repeated this process about 3 times in a 3 minute period. it brought the termperature guage right back down each time. around this same time, I drover over a bump (pretty light bump). and right when this happened, the temperature guage spikes to hot and then came right back down to where it normally is. and at this same time, the other 2 guages made no sudden movement going over this light bump. toward the end of my short drive, I also decided to tap lightly above the other 2 guages to see if they made any movement back down (like the temperature guage). they were unaffected by my tapping. the other 2 guages have always appeared to display the correct information. is my issues still the cluster? or is it a wiring issue with the temperature guage?
Oh my gosh this worked just like you said! All my needles moved. My problem is my fuel gauge is always on full or close to it. Local mechanic replaced the sender but it didn’t fix the problem. What’s next? Again thank you so much for making this video. Oh, I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima.
@@loveprogramming2535 I couldn't get it fixed without finding someone to remove the instrument cluster and repairing it. My solution: I bought a check engine light code reader. This actually work on my 370z lol but mine cluster work but sometime the speedometer or rpm meter get stuck or go under 0 but still work but for example sometime it get stuck at 20mph and then just start going up from there when I go
Going to try this on my Nissan Maxima this evening. If the battery light does not light up then cluster is bad? Right now the mechanic shop thinks my cluster could be draining battery and a new one may be necessary?

Oh man, I saw this after I had already torn everything out, wish I had seen it sooner. My cluster appears to be functional, but my tachometer, check engine light, and temperature gauge do not function when it is plugged in normally. Any suggestions?
Hello, thank you for sharing your knowlege; it´s most useful. However , my altima 2006; when I switch it on (running or not) the spedometer jumps up to 30mph, and gass needle goes un to 3/4 when there is actually only 2 galons in the tank. I preformed your test and the needles move, only that the gas gauge moves from 8 to 1/2 twemp as well; revs from 0 to abuut 2000, but the speeder needle always jumps into 30 mph, and does move wirh other needles while preforming the test.... is there a way to calibrate them back to their positions, any sugestions is most welecome. thanx in advance
I would check the fuse first...For the speedometer issue could be the Speed Sensor....The gas needle could be the “floater” inside the gas tank. Good luck!
2005 Nissan Altima, fuel gauge not working. Will read at 3/4 of a tank when there should be 1/4 of gas. Sometimes it appears accurate, most of the time it isn't. Will never show as empty or have the yellow empty light while running. I already tried replacing the fuel pump. No improvement. I performed this test and the cluster appears to be working. I'm now at a loss for what the problem could be...any other ideas?
@@VagabondVerdas apparently issues with the instrument cluster are not uncommon with that gen of Altima. if you've tried everything else, there's probably something wrong with the instrument cluster that would require replacement or rework. I never got around to sending it in for that before having to junk the car for other issues. It would have cost me ~$500 and put me out of a car for who knows how long. I lived with it by using the trip counter and filled up every 300 miles or so.
Hello thank you for the video. I tried and only the rev count and speed needles went up. The temperature an fuel pins did not rise. When driving all the pins work perfect except the fuel pin. What could be the solution
Inside your your gas tank there is a “floater” which rises and lowers with the level of gas you have in the tank and it controls the fuel needle on your dash....The floater could be bad ...or a blown fuse....I would check the fuse first....Good luck!
@@beachtroll8344 thanks. I actually started by checking the floater. It looks okay. I could not locate the actual fuse because th map is all in Chinese so now will just do a check across all fuses. Will share results
Mine passed your test, but it's working intermittently - it is working more often than not. Slapping seems to help. When it's failing, everything does not work, it is not limited to just the speedometer. Any suggestions? Subscribed!
It should work on any Nissan....When you do the test, if the needles move, then it’s most likely your VSS ( Vehicle Speed Sensor)..... If the needles DON’t move, then it’s most likely the Cluster.... I would check the Fuse(s) first though.....Good luck!
I’ve watched this video and followed the instructions 3 different times after the speedometer stopped working.. is there a reason it is only temporarily fixing it?
If your needles moved as they did in the video then you need to replace the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor).....If the needles did not move, then the Cluster possibly needs to be replaced....Good luck!
2007 Altima 2.5s. Both the speedometer and tach are reading slower than they should, speed is exactly 10mph slower at all speeds. Ran your diagnostic and the gauges move but not as high as the video shows. Already replaced the secondary speed sensor which didn't help. Any ideas as to what the issue might be?
You might take it apart and see if the needles are where they're supposed to be. I just had mine ripped apart and put it back together with the needles set too high lmao, it's a possibility.

My 1994 Nissan Terrano must be too old for this. It has the Trip 1 and 2 window, but the procedure didn't work. I'm trying to figure out why none of my warning lights come on when ignition is turned on (except the hand brake light). Also, my replacement alternator doesn't charge.

I took my Titan 2013 to get detailed and when I received it back the instrument cluster was dead. Odds are some moisture messed with a relay or something? Any thoughts on what relays to check or fuses? I’m praying it’s something simple.
Hi, what about if the rpm is not calibrated correctly?, when you pressed the stick just now, the needle did jumped. So that's the correct position of the needle?
Very thanks for helpme. I didn't know that.
You’re welcome, glad my video helped you!
Hi. I have a nissan bluebird su14 and sometimes the speedometer doesn't work. And while speeding it suddenly starts to work. What would be the problem? And how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance
This actually work on my 370z lol but mine cluster work but sometime the speedometer or rpm meter get stuck or go under 0 but still work but for example sometime it get stuck at 20mph and then just start going up from there when I go
Thank you brother
You’re welcome and thanks for watching.
Going to try this on my Nissan Maxima this evening. If the battery light does not light up then cluster is bad? Right now the mechanic shop thinks my cluster could be draining battery and a new one may be necessary?
If the needles move when you do the test then the cluster should be good.
@@beachtroll8344 yeah it did. Just wonder if there is anything else wrong with it that would drain battery. I didn’t see all warning lights flash well mainly battery one. 🧐 car has a brand new alternator and battery and I can only get few miles drive time before it shuts off.
Thanks a lot! This also worked on SU 14 -1999. But speedometer not work in the running stage. Please help to advise.
My 96 Nissan Sentra Gxe speedometer is working but not my odometer or trip. I've already changed out the instrument cluster panel after noticing my speedometer wasn't working.
Wow very nice and good show. I'm interested to know that, just like problem a nessan QB3 MODEL. THY HAVE NO ODOMETER, NO FUEL Guage , no RPM, NO TEMPERATURE GUAGE, HOW CAN I FIXED THAT'S ? SER CAN U TELL ME. THANKS 🙏 GOD BLESS.
I would run the diagnostic test shown in the video.....If the needles move during the test, then you’ll know it’s NOT the cluster.....If the needles do move during the test, then I would check fuse(s)....Good luck!
@@beachtroll8344 ok I try . What you do, I do also , but thanks your show. Ser
Good luck!

this is what it does....
Helped alot thank you
I’m glad it helped!
It could be a bad floater in the gas tank.
@@beachtroll8344 I replaced the fuel pump and it's attached floater/sending unit.
I didn't think there was another floater?
Hey man, im having the same problems, did you ever figure it out?
@@VagabondVerdas apparently issues with the instrument cluster are not uncommon with that gen of Altima. if you've tried everything else, there's probably something wrong with the instrument cluster that would require replacement or rework.
I never got around to sending it in for that before having to junk the car for other issues. It would have cost me ~$500 and put me out of a car for who knows how long.
I lived with it by using the trip counter and filled up every 300 miles or so.
@VagabondVerdas it wound up being the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)… I replaced the VSS and Al was good. Good luck!
Problem with 2009 maxima TI instrument lights going on & off. Have you ever come across this
U the man thx dude
Thanks....Glad my video helped!
If the speed sensor replacement doesn't fix it, pull the cluster off and tighten all the little contact screws a quarter turn behind each gauge !!
Mine passed your test, but it's working intermittently - it is working more often than not. Slapping seems to help. When it's failing, everything does not work, it is not limited to just the speedometer.
Any suggestions?
Subscribed!
I would check your fuses. If they check out ok it could be a faulty cluster. Good luck and thanks for subscribing!
most likely a bad ground or loose plug in cluster. Been there done that.
What about the temperature gauge? I diagnosed like you said and it worked but my temp gauge doesn’t work
Would this work on a 2009 rogue ? My speedometer and rpm meters arent working and non of the lights will come on to see my gas and temp gages
@@beachtroll8344 I bought a used 1992 pathfinder and hlaf of the speedometer is gone. how in the wide wide world of sports do i replace it ?
Does this work for digital odometers only? I tried it on my '99 Altima (which doesn't have a digital odometer) and it did not work.
Yes, it only works for a digital screen.
is this the same way for the temp. gauge as well
yes it is the same.
@@beachtroll8344 thank you
Thank you so much for ur help
You’re welcome....glad it helped you!
Hi brother. I wanted to exchange the speedometer of my pathfinder R50 to pathfinder SE R50. I tried many auto electricians but they failed to bring the back light of the meter. Although the fishers are same but it has two extra wires and it starts when you only starts the ignition but my model on the lights when I on the right side lever. Please advise what shall I do.
My 1994 Nissan Terrano must be too old for this. It has the Trip 1 and 2 window, but the procedure didn't work. I'm trying to figure out why none of my warning lights come on when ignition is turned on (except the hand brake light). Also, my replacement alternator doesn't charge.
Thank you very much.
You’re welcome, glad it helped!
Sir,I have mark ii gx100,1G 1998,when I leave it in sunny and hot weather the mileage goes off, the speed needle doesn't move and gears take long to change, but when it's cool the car is alright. My mechanics have tried a lot working on sensors and gear box, still the problem persists. What can be the reason for this?
I haven’t seen that before....I wish I had an answer for you.....If it was me, I would cut a piece of cardboard the size of your speedometer display and cover it when you exit the vehicle....Sorry I don’t have a better answer.
I have 2005 Nissam Altima and this worked well! So its not my cluster! Ty so much saved me alot of money! ***Question I was driving and out of nowhere all my lights went flickering at same time my dash lights the headlights radio lights just flickering. New battery, Volts read good on Alternator ...its not cluster....what could it be???? 🤷♀️
I'm glad my cluster video helped you!!.. As far as the flickering dash lights and headlights, I lean towards a bad alternator. .. Did you have it tested at a shop?
@@beachtroll8344 i Did have it tested at o'Reilly auto parts and came back ok. Mechanic tested last month all ok. So I'm not sure 🤷♀️
@@beachtroll8344 could it be loose neutral?
Found this video while working on a se-r 200sx Nissan because my gauge cluster only has the headlight bulb lit the gauge cluster and none of the needles responded maybe I rewired wrong? Need heelp
Nice vid
Thanks
My gauges work on my 96 maxima but the rpm needle keeps jumping or just rests on the right side or maximum rpm even at idle sometimes. Any ideas?
It could be a bad connection in the RPM signal wire (corrosion, a broken wire or a loose connection between the coil terminal and the tachometer).
@@beachtroll8344 Thanks I will remove instrument cluster to check the connection. Thanks for the response.
hay man I have a problem with my clock adjustment in nissan frontier 2002 any advice

@@bigsister1146 it could be the cluster needs to be replaced.

Hello beachtroll, there is nothing wrong with the thermostat or with the temperature in my Nissan Sentra 2002 but after start the car, the temp needle raises up all the way and after I tap it the needle goes back to normal temp, after a while the cycle continues. In my case I didn’t have to replace the speed sensor. It was a wiring harness issue. Good luck!
@@beachtroll8344 I believe that is going to be the case with me as well. The gauges stop doing it and I haven’t fixed anything. Any tip on what harness it might be? And thank you!
@roqueguzman409 it was the harness that connects to the vehicle speed sensor.
