Currently, this guy is one of the sickest drummer hands down. And it remains true no matter which music scene one could think of. His skill is beyond insane
+Mac Mourning yea im all about that pop punk but this guy is unreal. really enjoying these play throughs but not helping me get this assignment done.....
He doesnt memorize them, he comes up with them during the song. He has the technique and skill to just play freely during any song. He never plays a song the same
I don't think he's human, he's a machine made by an underground overlord sent to make the rest of us humans look ridiculous. This guy is unbelievable, I've seen alot of great drummers, but Chris is the best I've ever seen. Bravo bruv 👊
I've watched this numerous times and his kit height always weirded me out, but now I see it! It's for efficiency of motion! He never has to reach above his shoulders so everything is easily within reach. That probably greatly helps with his complexity and speed. Brilliant if ya ask me.
I've been in awe of this guy recently. I do wonder how much of his parts are left to improv, so much of his playing just sounds like syncopated goofing off that I can't tell.
None of it. He actually discussed this in an interview that a lot of comments say he just kinds smashes his drums and hopes for the best but he said that everything he writes, he writes based on sounds. He doesn't try to write off time or odd syncopated patters. He just plays what he feels and plays it over and over until he feels its in the pocket. I'm sure his songs start rather bare and each play through he adds another part or 2 until its done haha. "Its not just random. Alright?" Loool
Definitely not. Chris has unbelievable technical skill. He has a pretty big background in Jazz drumming so all the applications are there. Chris just wanted to come out with a fresh new twist on metal drumming and he has certainly delivered. There is no random skin mashing about it. Chris's skill and experience level are far beyond your typical good drummer.
+Kaden Lawson they should have deluxe edition like NL did with singularity... James' vocals are to good for them to be just an instrumental band though
This guy is just mind blowing. I would love to find out how many hours a day he practices. Not only super technical but super precise. Hats off to you pal. Mind blowing stuff 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
everyone says "this guy needs to calm down" or "ease up." you have to realize this is a VERY difficult song to master as he's done. one wrong move and the rhythm of the whole song is fucked. the technical skill that everyone in OAA has is mesmerizing.
anyone that might have doubts on this guys live performances, from a first hand experience this dude is as good live as he is in his drum covers a monster
lukas luki yeah, but they are two different genres. I’d say Chris is maybe a little better than Matt. I mean Chris is playing a way different style compared compared to abr. Both killer drummer and bands.
Although I'm not hooked with this kind of music/bands, one of my best friends is a drummer on a bad ass jazz band... I acknowledge this guy is awesome. keep reaching the rainbow 👍
Best Drummer List : Chris Turner Luke Holland Brandon Burkhalter Special Power & Ability : Chris : Never Blink while playing Luke : Never gets old Brandon : Can play when his eyes covered by his hair
Robby Brush I agree, with all except Luke Holland. Luke is good I honestly have no idea who I would replace with Luke, but there’s people better than him I think. Luke is great tho. Also cool to see love for Brandon, I don’t see a lot and he definitely deserves some
I Don’t Know What’s More Impressing. His Drum Skills Or The Fact That DUDE NEVER BLINKED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE PLAYTHROUGH. Nevertheless, Still One Of My Drumming Idols
I have a question for this drummer. If you ever see this, I am wondering if you still get the chills when playing certain songs or certain parts. I am constantly chasing that feeling during my sessions, I am just curious.
I literally think he might be the best drummer of all time. Factoring speed, rhythm (or so much progressive "lack thereof" to actually create a completely different rhythm" and precision
Look at the like/dislike ratio, that how you know he’s fucking amazing! I’m going to see OAA this month and I’m stoked!! Chris reminds me of Luke Holland. The skill is insane..
+John LeDoux Cologne? What am I 40? Hate coffee, hate sweet coffee, hate cold coffee, you got something funky up your nose mate. I'll have my Oreos with a cup of milk, and if I don't have those things I'll have a fucking PB&J. Seems like you've dabbed in that kind of lifestyle since you can smell it to a T.
John LeDoux We get it, that kind of joke is a thing. We've heard it. People who are still stating it are just trying to look like smart asses. Is my perspective.
That's the negative perspective of it, and that wasn't what I was aiming for. I was just trying to make a joke in attempt to humor you, but failed because of your emotional stubberness. I guess the lesson I learned today is not to try and humor someone with "gaming" in their title.
John LeDoux Cuz of course that also has a list of stereotypical jokes you instantly assume? You got a problem with seeing someone and instantly label aspects of their life. First vinyl and now gaming? You should be less critical about how others live their day according to their interests. Check your privilege idiot.
God gave this man an incredible gift...unparalleled gift. Hope he knows that🙏🤘. God bless you Chris...and may you have a bright and positive future. Shits getting ugly out there...
He's my idol one day I will sing with fearless records that's my goal I am 13 years old I am working to cover this song it's fast and has a lot of little detales
Just set up my cymbals at the height that he has them. It's a lot lower than most people, but it's actually super ergonomic, I'd recommend people try it!
Does anyone else notice that he is wearing a BlessTheFall t-shirt? I find this odd. Chris Turner is such a good drummer, that the drummer of Blessthefall should be wearing an Oceans Ate Alaska t-shirt.
Perhaps he's supporting his friends and is a fan. I find that admirable rather than him thinking that his overwhelming talent should make people bow to him and that's he's too good to wear other band's shirts, as that's how fame gets to your head. Humbleness and humility goes a long way.
Currently, this guy is one of the sickest drummer hands down. And it remains true no matter which music scene one could think of. His skill is beyond insane
100% agreed m8
+Mac Mourning Yeah Chris is amazing and i'm not disagreeing with you but you should look up Aaron Kitcher
He's definitely up there with the likes of Matt Garstka :D
+Mac Mourning yea im all about that pop punk but this guy is unreal. really enjoying these play throughs but not helping me get this assignment done.....
+Smellinglikefish214 A bit of a stretch, but he will be before long. His style is pretty reminiscent of early Travis Orbin
It's official. This dude's double bass work resurrects the dead. Legendary
I had a drum lesson with him, he taught me all the secrets do mastering the double bass ;)
+Heinistyle the secret is to sell your soul to satan
+Chris hey chris can you show me at least the chris turner double pedal techniques ?
>stares at absolutely nothing
>doesn't miss a single beat
Fuck
stivesyy it's obvious the reason for his extreme focus is to prevent his skeleton from combusting
I bet the drums always check the closet for this guy before going to bed. What a monster.
Charlie's Drum Corner The concentration and the fact that he never misses a goddamn beat is terrifying.
HAHAHAHA!
bet it doesn't want to get surprise banged xD
😂
Badass
I like the way he brings a Jazz drumming sound to metal. Its very unique.
This guy is probably one of the best drummers out there. I've never seen someone master the drums like this, that surely is a lot of talent
Frost S he’s only like 25 too so it’ll only get better for 30 more years
Love how low Chris seats his kit. He's like a king, surveying his kingdom!!
the concentration on his face is incredible
How in the hell do you remember all of those fills so well? the precision and skill is just phenomenal. great song by the way
He doesnt memorize them, he comes up with them during the song. He has the technique and skill to just play freely during any song. He never plays a song the same
This guy is crazy abstract..everything he's doing is beyond the realm of normal.
Nothing short of prodigy levels of skill.
He stares at that ride like it just said something about his mama.
Dismal626 sir you really made my day HAHA
+Dismal626 i can't watch this video without laughing now because of you
3.07 lol
I can't even everytime I hear oceans ate alaska now I only imagine Chris staring down his symbol
+LoudGhostAnthem Cymbal..
this band is incredibly talented at all of their instruments amazing...
I don't think he's human, he's a machine made by an underground overlord sent to make the rest of us humans look ridiculous. This guy is unbelievable, I've seen alot of great drummers, but Chris is the best I've ever seen. Bravo bruv 👊
He didn´t even blink once.
TobiParallels 3:05
TobiParallels 1:23
+TobiParallels Never heard about cyborgs ? :v
Robots don't need to blink.
He blinks. Just at the exact same time as you.
I've watched this numerous times and his kit height always weirded me out, but now I see it! It's for efficiency of motion! He never has to reach above his shoulders so everything is easily within reach. That probably greatly helps with his complexity and speed. Brilliant if ya ask me.
This is insane. I'm in awe of his talent.

I love how this is the only video that will calm my nephew down. Will always be his favorite 👌👌
anybody else think this band would be killer if they were just instrumental?
+Kaden Lawson Would really like a all instrumental album
+Kaden Lawson they should have deluxe edition like NL did with singularity... James' vocals are to good for them to be just an instrumental band though
I know this comment is old, but now they have an instrumental version of their album put
*out
they have instrumental versions of their albums
Such a unique and amazing drummer.
This guy is just mind blowing. I would love to find out how many hours a day he practices. Not only super technical but super precise. Hats off to you pal. Mind blowing stuff 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
i wanna see what his brain activity is like when he drums
SAMWISE GAMGEE cocaine is one hell of a drug
Hahaha
I was thinking the same shit. This guy has left the matrix.
I find it scary how he barely moves his shoulders
Good drummers only use their forearms and wrists to play, any other movements are excessive and usually take away speed and precision.
I play drums so I know its all in the wrists but I just thought it looked weird, maybe that's how I look when I play :/
+Ben Levitt I heard he has some kind of back issue so that's why he's so stiff, also with this kind of music it looks hard not to be stiff haha
Bgood2422WTTL chill there smattering pants
Bgood2422WTTL Drummers also use their fingers and full arms on occasion. Depends on the context and the volume required.
Plays like hes untying a knot with his ear. Youre litteraly top 5 drummers in the world dude. Ty for your work
everyone says "this guy needs to calm down" or "ease up." you have to realize this is a VERY difficult song to master as he's done. one wrong move and the rhythm of the whole song is fucked. the technical skill that everyone in OAA has is mesmerizing.
YES!! Keep these coming, I want to learn some of these songs before the next album!
i love this song because of those drums! amazing job man !
yo i been watching this shit 5 years and just noticed the quick cymbal grab at 3:10 - 3:11 , insane
Super creative, outstanding job Chris!
O_0!!! Sooooooo many skill! Thanks for these 4 minutes man! Keep up the excellent work!
Guitar play-through please??
anyone that might have doubts on this guys live performances, from a first hand experience this dude is as good live as he is in his drum covers a monster
he's a man of focus and sheer fucking will
I'm pretty sure the bassist is the only human in this band.
Ven Noel even so some of him parts are hard as fuck! Mike doesn't play around either
:Dd 4th stringers
Epic Insanity! Dryden Foss is killin' it!!! 🤘🤘🔥🔥💥💥
best hardcore drummer, like matt greiner of abr
lukas luki yeah, but they are two different genres. I’d say Chris is maybe a little better than Matt. I mean Chris is playing a way different style compared compared to abr. Both killer drummer and bands.
this is amazing! I love OAA you must be so talented!
Still come back to watch this every so often even in 2024. Sick!
ah man that was awesome looking forward to hearing it on the track
A fantastic drummer. WOW
Although I'm not hooked with this kind of music/bands, one of my best friends is a drummer on a bad ass jazz band... I acknowledge this guy is awesome.
keep reaching the rainbow 👍
This dude is sick! Love his BTF shirt too
I love this kind of videos
even though he is super tense and plays with very unusual technique, his playing is spot one and super tight. all i can say is great job.
I saw these guys live, it was so good
2:29 that flam rimshot !
The style of his drummin is just so sick
THis confirms it, yet another progressive metal player is a computer. Marc Okubo, and chris turner are humanoid robots.
Best Drummer List :
Chris Turner
Luke Holland
Brandon Burkhalter
Special Power & Ability :
Chris : Never Blink while playing
Luke : Never gets old
Brandon : Can play when his eyes covered by his hair
Robby Brush I agree, with all except Luke Holland. Luke is good I honestly have no idea who I would replace with Luke, but there’s people better than him I think. Luke is great tho. Also cool to see love for Brandon, I don’t see a lot and he definitely deserves some
Maybe replace luke with travis orbin, but keep luke in a close 4th to these guys I'd say.
how would you even remember all of this
Even you can remember all of this if you're the composer of this song..
chris your a beast!!!
That focus haha great show in vancouver dude
Awesome Play through!!!
this is absolutely insane
I Don’t Know What’s More Impressing. His Drum Skills Or The Fact That DUDE NEVER BLINKED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE PLAYTHROUGH. Nevertheless, Still One Of My Drumming Idols
Stares at the ride cymbal the whole song. Doesnt hit it once. Haha love you Chris!
What kind of shoes is he wearing? Sounds epic by the way. Fantastic!
Guitar Hero Live brought me here, thank you activision ! :)
Nice song
DANG! Ok if you put me in front of that kit I could come up with some groovy stuff but nothing near this kinda stuff. He is an absolute mad lad!
You are a freaking legend!!!!
Look at the like/dislike ratio, that how you know he’s fucking amazing! I’m going to see OAA this month and I’m stoked!! Chris reminds me of Luke Holland. The skill is insane..
Does he ever blink?
1.23
Exelente play trougth
Woah, I found this by total accident...... very glad I did.
THIS ALBUM NEEEEDDS A VINYL PRESS
I can already smell the earthy cologne and overly sweet cold coffee with crushed ice cubes and Oreo sprankled whipped cream from here
+John LeDoux Cologne? What am I 40? Hate coffee, hate sweet coffee, hate cold coffee, you got something funky up your nose mate. pure art
absolute skills!
What's that cymbal called to the left of his ride cymbal is that a mini stack or 8in. China?
Definitely appreciate the variety of symbols
I appreciate ? Myself
God gave this man an incredible gift...unparalleled gift. Hope he knows that🙏🤘. God bless you Chris...and may you have a bright and positive future. Shits getting ugly out there...
just wow!
If his seat be lower does he could play so fast on foot ? Does seat height improve his playing ?
Monster!
SO FUCKING SICK BRO!!!
5 STARS
God dayum this guy's a beast
YESSSS IM SO HAPPY!!!
Chris is always in #BeastMode!!!
This playthrough was delicious.
I want to see the drum sheet of this xD
I can't play drums with socks on.. At all!! This guy nails it
You are brilliant... FULL STOP
A friend sent me here with the words: "If I wouldn't see it, I would think its programmed." - Well I can agree. Not disappionted :)
where can i get that fresh blessthefall tee though???
After this video he needed eye drops dude held his eyes open for so long he couldn’t blink🤣
Can't tell if he's sitting very high, or his drums are really low, or maybe both?
Higher throne and lower drums means less leg fatigue when doing lots of double bass fills
He’s really tall
What name or type of hi-hat stand is he using?
FINALLY IVE BEEN WAINTING FOR MONTHS!
He's my idol one day I will sing with fearless records that's my goal I am 13 years old I am working to cover this song it's fast and has a lot of little detales
Good luck man, that's a goal we both share :)
+z. (quit lol) yeah and I ment sign not sing lol
in how many bpm is this song played?
160
Not that much for this song lolol
This guy isn't in the the zone,
*He is the goddamn zone*
is he the drummer of OAA? is he the original drummer? he changed
HOLY FUCK! Chris is a fucking god on the drums!!
can you play connect four on the wall?
It s Amazing
am I the only one thought that the second breakdown was weird cuz the drumming seemed to simple for Chris
too
Just set up my cymbals at the height that he has them. It's a lot lower than most people, but it's actually super ergonomic, I'd recommend people try it!
