But that college director was building a hospital in Punjab after closure of the college in Sydney as I was told nearly twenty years later.

Hence a win win situation interms of transfer of effective knowledge and privelage for those interested in teaching. Im an architect educated from school of planning and architecture, a government architecture college where visiting professors teach apart from the permanent ones. The will to learn and the seed of interest was definitely from these two to three lectures/electives/workshops from visiting faculties.. Could such a concept be adapted to primary schools as well?

Meanwhile China prepared itself with quality educated youths( Out of top 20 tech universities in the world, 9 are from China; None from India). Out of 1500 million Indians, there is only one Tharoor who can speak English very well because he spent a pretty good time of his life in Britain and improved himself. Is there any other such as Shashi Tharoor in India, NO. In Pakistan, the late Prime Minister of Pakistan Z. A. Bhutto and his daughter Benazir Bhutto were the most outspoken leader of Pakistan and there was no one in India to challenge their outspoken position. India Gandhi in 1972 at the time of the Shimla Agreement was in a very vulnerable position before Bhutto because Bhutto having had a dominant position in all respects. Shashi is very well like Bhutto in English but his political credentials will be tested.

Bhutto made Pakistan an atomic power, he arranged Islamic Summit in Lahore, he strengthened Pakistan's military power, he sent millions of Pakistanis in the Arab world for getting jobs, he united the Muslim world and made Pakistan the leader of the Islamic world.
No one is sure that Dr. Shahsi will become the PM of India because the Gandhis will not tolerate all this. Secondly, no one can say with all certainty that Dr. Shashi will be a successful Indian PM because India is a Musailistan (having tons of problems), lynchistan and cow-vigilantes type of country. In international circles India is considered a volatile and fragile country. There are tons of issues in India and POVERTY is the leading issue, several African states are better than India.
If by the grace of luck Shahsi became an Indian PM thereafter his failure and successes will be studied and judged that whether he can only speak English fluently or can also prove his political ability and wisdom practically. It is said that in UNO he as an Indian diplomate was a total failure.
Sir, I’d like to very kindly point out that Shashi Tharoor did not work as an Indian diplomat to the United Nations, as you mention towards the latter part of your comment, and was in no way obliged to India. Dr Tharoor actually worked for the International Organisation, he was not an Indian representative to the UN.
He is addressing a point and elaborating the concept and state of education. The fact he is erudite and articulate in English be it Indian english or US english or Queens english is a different matter altogether.

It's the lack of organisational skill of old generation Congress party. Old stalwarts don't want to give the younger, intelligent efficient people a chance. Shahi is not being from central India, also make people of the party project him as the leader.

The issue about pressure on kids can only be alleviated by increasing the number of high quality universities.
Also, some effort needs to be made on increasing student participation in non-technical (such as engineering and medicine) courses. They are also just as important.

We are discussing education 28 years after liberalisation and we are blaming our youth for not meeting the standards. What a shame!! Meanwhile China prepared itself with quality educated youths( Out of top 20 tech universities in the world, 9 are from China; None from India).
Mr. Taroor was part of the problem which he can't absolve himself of with his glib talk(in accentuated English). One good thing is at least he appears to be reasonable(I don't know if he really is).
