    It amazes me how ferocious cows' immune systems must be. If we had a substantial lesion exposed to those conditions, we'd get gangrene, sepsis, or any number of other conditions. With cows, you just spray it down with chlorhexidine or iodine, apply salicylic acid if necessary, put on a block to keep weight off it, and they're generally good to go.

    • @alexanderoutlander.1040
      @alexanderoutlander.1040 3 ปีที่แล้ว +96

      I agree with you but think too that in this kind of big farms it is very common to put a lot of vaccines with antibiotics to the animals.
      Thanks to the cows we discovered vaccination by the way.

    • @albeon_draken
      @albeon_draken 3 ปีที่แล้ว +149

      @@alexanderoutlander.1040 Someone may have to correct me on this, but since feeding cows a steady diet of antibiotics tends to breed superbugs, I believe the EU and UK have banned the practice for quite some time now. As for vaccines, most of them are designed to prevent viral infection, not bacterial.

    • @alexanderoutlander.1040

    Knife work always amazes me. Yesterday The HoofGP posted a video of a white line crack that was full of stones! He mentioned how the stones can really mess with the knife edge. Makes me wonder how many knives you have and how often to you have to sharpen them?

    What do you do if both claws have an issue at the same time? Or does that basically not happen?

    I was sitting here holding my breath the entire time just waiting for you to draw blood. I've seen so much awful foot trimming on TH-cam I was preparing for the worst.
    When I didn't see any blood I was shocked in the most positive way possible.

    2 questions, 1. What about the blood on the other claw? 2. Shouldn’t it be easier without gloves?

    Can you please show the head you use on the disk grinder? In all the videos I’ve watched of both yours and other channels nobody shows the head that you use for shaving down the hooves.

    Hey Nate! I've always been curious about the heel ball(?) bulb(?) that is often removed. It seems like it's neither flesh or horn. It doesn't seem to bother the girls. What is that exactly?
    Thanks for all the great videos!!

      It’s kind of in between the two. It’s an area of shock absorption and cushioning that can separate with lesions.

    At around 4:50 it sounded like Nate had a stroke from all those complicated words. Seemed funny. It's great to see this human side of Nate.

    Could lesions be compared to an ingrown toe nail in a person? I love you channel and how informative it is!
    Thank you

    Can cows live with 3 legs? Cats and dogs do but they move in a different way.

    Does your apparatus, you use to lift the cow's leg, have a front leg lift & a separate back leg lift?
