Nate, you're the only hoof trimmer I watch. No unnecessary music or intros, and always educational. You have a way of explaining things that are easy to understand and your soothing tone is relaxing at the same time. Most of all you're the best at what you do. No one is better with a knife, and no one else takes the care and time to keep the girls comfortable during the process.
I found Nate first and I really have no patience for anyone else. I don’t have to watch the “best part” as an opening clip, the stay-tuned clip, and the actual clip. I get an actual full video. I don’t have to watch him flay the cow’s skin off while solving the problem. I don’t have to hear him act like the main character and scream at the camera. He makes NORMAL youtube videos and they are actually quite suitable for education purposes, I bet. No ego, just cows!
I don’t watch anyone else either. I also find they aren’t as good at it and don’t care about the cows as much as Nate. Not to name names, but Hoof GP seems to hit sensitive areas far more than Nate and doesn’t seem to have the same regard for the cows as Nate does. That’s just my opinion. I can’t know that obviously. I’d be interested to hear what others think.

I'm a horse farrier and also do hard gel nails on myself. Using that combination of experience, I've found both roughing up the nail / hoof surface, and spraying the area to be adhered to with with isopropyl alcohol (to remove oils and dry the surface), really helps vettec and my own gel nail stay on the longest.

I really like the immediate follow up, it's very satisfying to see how much healing has taken place and how less sensitive she is to the procedure. What do you think of the new wheel? Was it a game changer or just okay?
I absolutely love the detailed information! As you were first trimming her wound, I wanted you to take off more around the lower separation of the white line, that little crack where the bacteria entered. Even though I knew that it wasn't the damaged area, "I" personally felt that I just wanted that cleaned up more so that more bacteria could not enter into the area & get back up to where it was eating at the corium. With that being said, let me say that I am NOT a hoof trimmer. I have had years & years of 'caring' for horses, their hooves and even though I have filed the hooves when the farrier was not able to make it, I am also 'Not' a farrier. Even though I had that feeling of getting rid of all the little defects in her hoof, I knew that it would grow out & on the re-checks, that it would be trimmed off. That could be considered my lack of knowledge as well as a bit of an OCD personality that I have. If I were to become a hoof trimmer, that is something that I would have to learn to 'let go'. I s'pose I'd be wasting too much time on each cow when it wasn't really necessary and not only would that hurt my business, it sure wouldn't be good for the cow considering all the extra time I'd be keeping her up in the sling. See? Not only do we learn about hooves, trimming, growth patterns, bacteria & the different approaches to treatments, we also learn more about ourselves watching your videos! Thank you for all of your hard work & efforts! (I'm including all of the filming & editing that is also involved in getting these messages to us)

I love how careful and intentional you are. I've seen other trimmers who just go in fast and aggressive; and while I understand that sometimes you just gotta get it done so you can move on, I do notice how you take your time with these sensitive trims and you obviously care a lot about the cows' comfort and overall trimming experience. Thanks for the video Nate. New videos have been slow and I understand why, but I can tell it has negatively affected my own well-being. There is something deeply therapeutic about seeing another animal getting care and treatment that helps with my own depression. I'm hoping for more in the future.
I am also severely depressed. May I suggest finding extra sources of reassurance? Or maybe removing a source of disturbance (example: deleting twitter off your phone)? We each have our own lives and I don’t have the heart to rush anyone, so finding other channels or tv shows regarding care soothes me. It depends on what you like. I watch extreme rescues, animal care, and medical mysteries. Maybe you absolutely love seeing animal rehabilitation? Depression is an absolute curse and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I’m sorry things are pretty rough for you lately. Hopefully I have presented a helpful option so that when our coping mechanisms are unavailable, we can switch to our backups. On TH-cam I like doctormike and chubbyemu for medical mysteries. Extreme Rescues and I Shouldn’t Be Alive are series that are/were on Hulu but you can easily find the important snippets of those episodes on here. On here I find animal rescue content to be dubious. I like what I find on tik tok instead. Lots of smalltime farmers rehabilitating lake ducks (ducks can’t survive in retention ponds :( ). I would be more than happy to share more with you. Shit sucks, but I hope to help.

Hey Nate! Just got through a rowing camp which tore my hands up, and your channel helped me keep them clean! The problem blisters were the ones that had opened (letting bacteria in) then closed (giving a low oxygen environment). I felt my hands aching within the day, opened things up to expose them to air, gave a nice wash, wrapped, and no more aching as new layers of skin replace the old. Sadly, no blocks. Great work as always!

I've gotten a little addicted to hoof trimming videos .... not sure why and how it happened? Lol. It started with another popular trimmer (GP). Ever since YT introduced me to your videos, you're the ONLY trimmer I subscribe to and watch ... for 3 reasons: first because there's no fluff, you get right to business. Secondly, because you're very good at explaining stuff to people that know nothing about trimming like myself. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, because you are by far the most gentle trimmer when you get close to the corium. You can tell how much you care by how gentle you are and how hard you try to make everything painless. You're the best at that HANDS DOWN !! Great job!!!

I remember you said you've considered a blower attachment on an air compressor, but more portable: have you considered the handheld battery powered turbo fans sometimes called a "compressed air duster" for doing an initial clearing of debris to get a better look? (I've started using them for cleaning computer equipment and they're surprisingly effective.)
I liked getting to see a cow's follow up appointment. I'd like to see a few more videos structured that way. Maybe trim the cow hoof, show the follow up a few weeks later, then the next follow up and the block removal once the recovery is complete.
It's fun to watch you and HGP and compare. Graeme seems to tend more severe foot injuries and works quickly, and you are a master class in precise knifework. Both of you are excellent explainers

Surely this has been said before but I think this kind of video provides a lot of stress relief and it is very grounding. Ngl, the look of that roughing disk worries me at first but then, you said that a farmer recommended it to you and then I remembered that the horn layer that cows produce feels more like nails. Thank you for what you’ve been doing all this time and although I feel sorry that the green wrap got discontinued, I do prefer the orange/peach colored wraps better.

Nate, do you ever give seminars or take apprentices? It's clear that you have not only a lot of accumulated knowledge, but also a way to apply it that is not common in your profession. It stands to reason that more compassionate professionals like you are needed.
I'm sorry this might sound a bit silly but I'm always impressed at how cows (and similar animals) can walk and even run on those skinny legs. The pressure exerted on those hooves must be extremely high. Thanks Nate for everything you do. That wound looks nasty.
Most if the thickness of those skinny legs is bone, compared to humans where you have more fat and muscle in the area. The cow's bones in that area are probably about twice as thick as yours in that area, making them 4 times stronger. Plus they have 4 legs instead if two. So eight times the weight-bearing capacity, and a cow weighs 8 times as much as a person (or less).

I'm curious how long some of these things would take to heal if you didn't help. I know if my nails split or grow weird it takes weeks for it to naturally fix itself, where as I just cut it off and it's days.

This is basically the same process as acrylic/poly gel nails
Acetone works better than alcohol to dehydrate the surface imo

Still testing it. Don’t know for sure yet. Certainly can’t hurt anything but will it improve retention? We’ll see.

I remember you said you've considered a blower attachment on an air compressor, but more portable: have you considered the handheld battery powered turbo fans sometimes called a "compressed air duster" for doing an initial clearing of debris to get a better look? (I've started using them for cleaning computer equipment and they're surprisingly effective.)

I liked getting to see a cow's follow up appointment. I'd like to see a few more videos structured that way. Maybe trim the cow hoof, show the follow up a few weeks later, then the next follow up and the block removal once the recovery is complete.
It's fun to watch you and HGP and compare. Graeme seems to tend more severe foot injuries and works quickly, and you are a master class in precise knifework. Both of you are excellent explainers

I often read comments from people who wonder why YT shows them your channel Nate. Surely this has been said before but I think this kind of video provides a lot of stress relief and it is very grounding. So when you pop up on the feed people get some much needed soothing and they never stop watching!

Ngl, the look of that roughing disk worries me at first but then, you said that a farmer recommended it to you and then I remembered that the horn layer that cows produce feels more like nails. Thank you for what you’ve been doing all this time and although I feel sorry that the green wrap got discontinued, I do prefer the orange/peach colored wraps better.

I'm sorry this might sound a bit silly but I'm always impressed at how cows (and similar animals) can walk and even run on those skinny legs. The pressure exerted on those hooves must be extremely high. Thanks Nate for everything you do. That wound looks nasty.
Most if the thickness of those skinny legs is bone, compared to humans where you have more fat and muscle in the area. The cow's bones in that area are probably about twice as thick as yours in that area, making them 4 times stronger. Plus they have 4 legs instead if two. So eight times the weight-bearing capacity, and a cow weighs 8 times as much as a person (or less).

I'm curious how long some of these things would take to heal if you didn't help. I know if my nails split or grow weird it takes weeks for it to naturally fix itself, where as I just cut it off and it's days.
