    Hoof horn really shouldn’t look like overcooked calamari. That cow’s going to feel so much better now that the lesions are opened up to the air, the salicylic acid is doing its job on the digital dermatitis, and the block’s taking the pressure off that hoof and keeping it elevated out of the muck.
    Good job 👍

    • @Silver-SableSeer

      Or perhaps it’s the overcooked calamari that shouldn’t look like hoof horn? Lol

      It's the sounds as well. Thr grinder is the same sound as a fan, as inside the womb, as in a driving car, etc....all those sounds that kinda knock you out Lol. Plus in his videos , he is quiet and the videos are very quiet....no music or other noises....just him and the cows.

    Hi Nate! She looks good after that trim and treatment. Can you tell me why some cows drool in the crush and others don't? I salivate when I am in pain (I try not to drool!) so I thought maybe it was the same for cows, especially ones with painful hoof conditions.

    • @NatetheHoofGuy
      @NatetheHoofGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think it has more to do with anxiety than pain. Cows produce a lot of saliva naturally.

    • @Silver-SableSeer
      @Silver-SableSeer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was also thinking anxiety. If I’m particularly depressed and or anxious, I either get really tense or all my muscles go lax. Moving is slow, I become more clumsy … I imagine that if I wasn’t a
      human (who cares about whether or not I’m drooling) that would also extend to swallowing and keeping my mouth shut.
      I wonder if the cows view a visit from the hoof trimmer a bit like a lot of us view an appointment with the dentist … don’t like being there but like the results?
      (including; a) a weird non-crush {cows potential opinion, not mine} that lifts them off their feet AND levitates; b) NOISY buzzing things that get applied to their feet)
      Do they connect “foot hurts less now” to their experience? (Mostly a rhetorical question)
      *Edit: Stupid Auto-correct

    I'm just curious and it might be a stupid question, but do those cows know, that you're helping them? Do they show any sign of gratitude or do they just run away?

    I cannot even begin to fathom how unpleasant having all that crap inside your foot must be. Thank goodness that poor animal's on the mend now!

    Nate, forgive me for what might be a silly question; I've never worked on a farm or even visited one that was anything other than one operated for show, like a touristy thing. When you cut into a lesion, or when you open a lesion and pus starts to come out of the cow's hoof--does the cow experience pain? Like for instance I've had to have lesions or boils on my skin lanced with a hypodermic needle and it is briefly painful. is it that way for the cow? I know it may seem like an odd question. i guess it interests me because its similar to a toothache when you have pus/pressure buildup and the pain is excruciating until they drill into it--and guess because I can relate or empathize with the cow for that reason I'm curious if the cow experiences it the way I do. ON EDIT--you're so caring with these animals. I pick right up on that to watch you. I always thought that if someone ate steak or meat that they had to not allow themselves to care about the animals, but its the opposite. I find myself developing respect. Didn't expect that.
