Tongue tension can be a silent killer you don't even realize you have. That was the case with me. Great video and channel.
Thank you so much! 🙌🏻 That is so true, tension in the tongue is really hard to spot on your own. Happy to hear that you realized it. 😊
How did you notice you had tongue tension, what was it preventing you from doing, what did you do to resolve it, and what was the end result? I've heard a few people mention this now and I'm wondering if it's an undiagnosed thing I have preventing my vocal progress.
@@89190jpriceÀ disturbing feeling in my throat (personally)
O M G!! You just unlocked my voice and the power of the upper palate…. Thank you so %^%% much!!! You gave me entry into music now :) For two years now and until
I die I have been singing everyday and most sessions average 3 hours or more. And I could hear that parts of the sound were wavering or not full sounding. And it’s all due to the “myth” of low tongue position. Pisses me off!!! Lol! So much time lost. And I immediately learned this new tongue method instantly due to my obsessive practice :) Subscribed!!
I'm so glad to hear that it helped you! Thanks for sharing it with us. 😀
Ken Tamplin advocates for a low tongue. Certain singers advocate for a retracted "ball like" tongue in the mouth i.e not touching the bottom teeth. I guess people have to do what they need to in order to produce sounds because there seems to be several conflicting ideas.
That's true! That's why I always base my training and explanations on the human anatomy. In that regard we are all build in a very similar way.
Thank you for the frequency explanation and bouncing the sound off the hard pallet . Now I understand why opera singers can sing without a microphone.
I'm glad to hear it helped you understand it! :)
Ty.... awesome voice lesson
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it 😊
Hi Timo, just discovered your channel and it seems you have the right approach for me. You describe concepts like air pressure as opposed to a very vague "pressure", which can basically mean anything, and hand out the practical solution to them. This is very helpful. Thank you.
I'm wondering, are there any recordings of yours singing in concert?
Thank you so much. 🙏🏼 Not yet but will come at some point 😊
Yeah this feels far more natural for me. The low tongue position made everything sound off. Especially enunciation. This is powerful. Thank you. ✨️
Pleasure!!! 😀
i have an abnormally long tongue so this was helpful
Glad it was helpful!
I definitely sound silly. Hopefully, I will sound 'silky' with practice. Thanks Timo
You are welcome! It takes a bit of time but then it becomes 2nd nature. 🙌🏻😊
thank u
You're welcome!
Thank you Timo. You make so much sense. 🙏👍
Glad you think so! Thank you 😀
Thanks for this demonstration , I was told to keep the tongue down to create more space for resonance - which seems incorrect as the muscle is inclined. Will practice the higher positions. I do notice my tongue going back when I'm gliding to a higher pitch. Could you touch upon the correct forward and backward placements as well , especially when gliding through the registers ?
You are welcome! 🙌🏻 Your tongue should always be in a mid/high position, especially for high notes.
When you tongue goes back especially for higher notes it means that your swallowing muscle is a little too stiff. I show the perfect exercise to strengthening the yawning muscle and stretch the swallowing muscle at the same time in this video:

Should be around the beginning 😊
I totaly agree with the high tongueposition. I also sing that way, but there are not only the frequenties of 3000 Herz but the human voice has also ather singing formants arount 5000 en 8000 Herz.
That's right! Only meant that (around) 3k hz is a very cutting frequency range against other acoustic instruments. 🎤
I agree that the BACK of the tongue should be loose and not tense but the front of the tongue should be relaxed and mostly against the bottom front teeth, or as the vowel demands. A high tongue creates tension as well. If you watch many great singers, the tongue is mostly FLAT in the mouth.
You can definitely sing with a high tongue without tension, but it takes practice 🎤
Thanks for the advise but with this tongue position, I find it difficult to say or enunciate words, I sounded like a drunk guy 😆
That’s totally normal. It takes a bit time to get used to it. I sounded hilarious when I started practicing it. 😊
😊
So, the tip of my tongue should be above my bottom teeth? In the middle of my mouth?
Exactly!
@@timoparker Awesome. Thank you.
The tongue tip is down though.
You dont mention that....
It should be up! Maybe it dropped a little at one point in the video. 😀
you were so very close to fact checking yourself when you started wondering about the epiglottis.
Could be, I can’t remember 😅
