Thank-you, Timo. I enjoy the way you teach. My voice has been an endless source of stress and disappointment in my life. I just turned 50 years old this year and have considered giving up on developing my voice, but watching your videos, and seeing a different approach than what I've tried in the past, it makes me wonder if I can make some improvements with your techniques. I will continue to watch and see if I can improve!

And we are all taking detours to some degree before we are finding the way we were looking for. I know I have had some detours on my journey so far!

Thank you very much for your very scientific method. For me it is very unique. I already have benfitted from it. Could you show examples by yourself or your studuents to sing a whole song for us with a louder (not excessive) volume and a higher pitch?

I've accepted it long ago that belting and being shouty isn't good because it's hard to connect your "chest" and "head" voices. I had to embrace "weakness" in order for them to blend. They blended but it was quiet. This was around 4 months ago, I guess. And I started to see the difference in volume, my head voice and chest voice is starting to actually develop. Whenever I'd arrive at school, one of the first things I do was clean and do some vocal exercises. At first I was quiet and I started becoming louder and louder that I could start hearing my voice kind of echo around our room lol. Me coming across this video solidifies my discovery even more, and I believe that I am now on the right track. If I find materials that support both of our discoveries, and even materials that contradict, I would be happy to consume and digest those information.
I hope I could develop my voice even further.😊

I don't believe in "screaming" or "forcing" your voice into something louder and bigger than it is. We have to give the voice the space it needs to develop and as it seems you are on the same path, as I describe in this video. Over time it will grow into a big voice without having to struggle or to force anything.

Hello Timo, I'm a beginner at rock/metal singing, I use a lot of compression/air pressure to achieve tones I want to reach (in terms of general tone and highness). This demands a lot of energy, which I assume is normal in this kind of music. I focus on reducing overcompression/over projecting to enhance the global tone (and save up some stamina). But "engaging" the whole body is also what's making a performance a bit more "alive" in my opinion. Do you think singing without air pressure for this style of music would be something to think of? Would I be able to recreate the types of distorsion I get when putting more air pressure? I'd like to know your thoughts about it
Great question! Air pressure is more like a quick fix. Over time you muscles will most likely deteriorate and you will need even more tension and air pressure to create a note. I wouldn't recommend to base your singing technique on that. If you take it away you will loose volume and sound quality, but if you work through it without pressure your singing muscles will grow strong and so will your sound. so are you talking about excessive air pressure? What about a belting chest sound, do I engage my abdominal muscles more? Or should I engage them to a point that makes the sound very efficient and feels the least engagement from these muscles for the loudness. Or should I just not squeeze anything in my upperbody and focus on vocal fold closure for to make the sound louder? I want to have the flexibility to go from soft to loud without tension building up. thanks for your videos, I have been learning a lot.
I would always advice to not use any pressure what so ever when you are singing. Chest voice and other sharper sounds can be achieved without any air pressure. When you train the right muscles in your throat and especially the vocal cords they will get stronger over time which leads to more vocal volume and flexibility. Air pressure can be an instant way to increase vocal range and volume to a certain extend, but it is not sustainable in the long run and will not help you to grow your voice. Hope this helps! 😀

When you say not to engage the stomach are you only talking about the abs? Because the side and back must engage surely?
The whole stomach (incl. back and sides) should stay relaxed when singing. I would recommend to use the rib and rib cage as breath support. You can find more infos in this video: th-cam.com/video/cmoxIucLy8w/w-d-xo.html
@@timoparker When certain teachers talk about "the lean" and/or to "push down" or pull the stomach in for support that engages the stomach. The rib expansion is certainly part of it too. I find it all very confusing. I guess you have to pick a technique and a style and stick to that.
