GeForce Experience can't record desktop - missing privacy control due to dual graphics - unfixable

- Having trouble getting GeForce Experience to show privacy control to record the desktop or other apps/games? On my Omen 17-cb0060nr, a clean reinstall of Experience fixed it because it ONLY has discrete graphics. On the Pavilion 16-a0032dx Gaming NOTHING works. Clean reinstalls of Experience & drivers, disabling the overlay & changing languages, nVidia Control Panel forcing the discrete graphics for Desktop Window Manager or System... In this video, I even use Device Manager to totally disable the integrated graphics & it almost works.
Time to move on & find software I like. I thought I would go back to Flashback Express that I've used before, but it won't capture web video & the editor is no longer free. I'll probably end up using OBS because of it's ease, many functions including scenes for different layouts in different games should I ever choose to enable the webcam, ability to capture web video, & free price without watermark. I'll edit with Hit Film Express since I already donated for it.
I appreciate how simple GeForce Experience is when it works on my Omen 17 - just produces and mp4. But they have specifically engineered it only to work with a dedicated GPU, which does NOT include dual graphics like in the Pavilion 16-a0032dx. Frankly, I think it's sloppy, because GeForce Experience wasn't even keeping my driver up-to-date. Just like HP Support Assistant doesn't make sure I have the most recent BIOS. So all these big companies have the same fundamental problems with being thorough & meticulous.
At least, disabling the Intel Graphics made everything better. Haha

well this make sense, but now all your prowgrams will run on the discrete gpu, chrome, word, paint, and thats a little to much for your batteries

Bro I found out how to do it.. when you open the GeForce Experience, you click that share button at the top and it opens the overlay, you go into the settings, scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see it.

Finally I found another good solution for who own msi gaming laptop. 1st go to the dragon center then home the go to general sitting after that u will find gpu switch. Choose discrete graphic mode then reboot after that you will find the privacy sitting in GeForce experience.

@@blackph2025 first u need to have msi dragon center you can downlead it from Microsoft store. then after u setup the dragon center open it. in the app go to home then general setting then you will find GPU Switch in the gpu switch selection select Discrete Graphics Mode.
in short<
1. open dragon center app
2. go to home
3. go to General setting
4. select Discrete Graphics Mode under GPU Switch.
5.and then restart your device.
just to tell you will not be able to use the hybrid or CPU graphics and that may affect the battery time so it finish faster because the GPU take more power but it is way better than staying in the hybrid mode.
however it is also better if u got a monitor and connect it to your laptop it will give u more fps and you will find it is better to play with another monitor than your laptop monitor.

How you made it work? I also have Dell 7577 having 1050Ti graphics....but intel graphics don't let me do that.....

I have an old version of Active Presenter that can record the screen in high quality. I didn't think I'd still have to use it after getting a new gaming laptop.
Way to go, Nvidia... not only can I not record the desktop, none of the games I play are compatible with your "experience".
Yup. I HAVE used OBS in the distant past and I'm pretty sure it's both good and free these days, but yeah, very annoying.

I set my second monitor as my main display and the privacy control starts working and recording works fine!

IMPORTANT -- some of you might be here trying to figure out how to fix it. This may be causing the problem for some of you: close any streaming services you have open. Netflix, Amazon, HBO, close them. Geforce Experience prevents desktop recording while these services are open for SOME STUPID reason. This was my problem and after searching for a solution for WEEKS I finally found it. Hope this helps at least one other person.

I'm not mad that i didn't get the solution for the problem i do enjoy the video and get a lot of useful info .. i have daul video cards (laptop) and i try everything when i try to turn off the gpu adapter it will show the privicy settings but not record not to mention that you will be stuck on 60 FPS cause your nvidia card is attached to your intel gpu and you already turned it off so you can't access the nvidia control panel basically you have no video card and this sucks I'm glad that i found someone explain this to me otherwise i will be searching for ever !

I had to install new GeForce Drivers and do 2 Windows Updates but it went well. For some reason it can only record my other screen though. Nvidia doesnt register my main screen for some reason. When unplugging the second monitor, the first one still worked by itself but I recorded a black screen, just something to be aware of if you can't seem to record. Other than that it works perfectly so far. Just update everything and restart!
Glad it's working, but man that's a lot of work... I was hoping this video would catch their attention to update the software and make it work for more situations.

For anyone with three or more monitors:
My RTX 3090 does not come with 3 Displayport slots. I am using 3 MSI Gaming Monitors of the same model with 3 displayport cables. My issue has been that my middle monitor was plugged in to the mainboard displayport slot and not the graphics card while staging which resulted in not being able to record the middle monitor. When it showed the desktop the middle monitor was somehow "managed" by the integrated intel graphics chip. When in a game that window was then managed by the RTX 3090 again. I could even see that the recording status symbols were only visible on the left and right monitor. When I deactivated the intel graphics chip the middle monitor stopped working after restarting.
I fixed this issue by changing the cables so that the monitor I want to record is plugged into the graphics card displayport slot.
Its so sad how 2 years later this problem still exists.
I had my display port cable in my motherboard and not my gpu, that was my problem.

My laptop has a MUX switch that turned off for some reason after an update. I turned it on to use my dedicated graphics, and now I can record desktop again. Just to say, I think switching options, that allow you to chose graphics processors, to you dedicated is worth the shot for some people

I know this might be a bit late, but I found a fix for Shadowplay not working. It is installing DDU, having your graphics drivers reset to the first day. That's what worked for me at least.
And I found even better of a fix yesterday. Enter (( www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us )) And select your graphics card. Once you do, download and install the driver as "CLEAN" install, and install Geforce Experience with it.
What seemed to be the trouble for me was that GeForce Experience wasn't installing my driver correctly, as I came from a really old version of a driver. After performing a complete clean install with the latest drivers for my graphics card on that website (official nvidia website, you can check it yourself) it worked!

@@DoubleBizzy What a coincidence it happens that I am also an owner of an Omen desktop, not sure if it's related. I bought mine second hand thus I am not sure what model is it but it's an Omen for sure.
It’s a nvidia Optimus enabled laptop. It will never support desktop recording.
Perhaps OBS, Flashback, or one of these new-fangled capture cards could do the trick?

I disabled the amd integrated graphics on my desktop and now windows won't boot
im having trouble with recording in game clips with this software. everytime i hit a clip and hit record it clips the desktop instead of the game. do you know any solutions to this?
If nothing in the video helps, then no. I switched to a different machine with a dedicated GPU and it works. But you might have to switch to something like OBS (which still takes some fenagling in Windows graphics settings to get working), Flashback Express, or others.

I also spent a whole day trying to find a way to fix it but couldn't. Currently I can only use windows' built-in recorder and found it's not so bad.
I figured it out! Turn off ransomware in the windows defender!
if you use the instant replay feature it uses your disk storage as the replay buffer so use a program to use some of your ram as disk storage and set that as the replay buffer. ram can handle more read and write than an ssd and it wont degrade your storage drive.

guys i found the problem after searching a lot! just have ur cord plugged into the graphics card itself and not the mother board
this works for me but im better off using obs studio because it slows down my desktop except during gaming.
I only have this problem of not being able to record when I have a tab open on certain websites like Spotify. If I turn that specific website / tab off I can record from desktop again.

Do you mean like the run of the benchmarks (Tomb Raider, PUBG, etc.) that are common for modern / AAA games? Well... um... sorry, no. I just don't have the desire and time to do that. But, I can say that the HP Pavilion 16 Gaming feels about the same as the Omen 17, and they both have the 1660 Ti. So basically, any laptop you see benchmarks for at the same 10th gen CPU and 1660 Ti is going to be comparable. Won't have the RTX 20xx series ray tracing, but it's a bit faster than 1650 cards.
Have not read, but found this that might help. Further down it lists FPS @ 1080 and most of those numbers look VERY good to me, but I'd be happy with ~45+ FPS @ 1080 so...

I have the same problem, the recording stops whenever I try to join a online game. I fixed the problem by changing where the recording is saved to. I used to save the recording to my second storage device (1Tb hard drive), but when the problem started, I changed it to my main storage device (237Gb SSD). But I couldn’t figure out why my second storage device stopped saving my records, it worked for about 2 years and then one day stopped. It’s not full, it’s in good condition still, no settings have been changed, I moved to windows 11 so that might be the problem.
some integrated graphics cards are integrated into laptop GPU's no matter whether you choose to disable the integrated card. I don't know how, but trying to get Oculus Quest 2 to work on my laptop has my suspicions raised.

I'm using HP Omen 15 and I'm really frustrated that I've tried to stream using OBS, Streamlabs OBS but all it shows is a black screen even if I've followed the instructions such as changing it to Integrated Graphics if you're gonna use DISPLAY CAPTURE or High Performance Processor if you're gonna use GAME CAPTURE or WINDOW CAPTURE. I've tried to stream all games in OBS but all of them showed a black screen which is really frustrating.
I resorted to using NVIDIA for streaming which seems kinda great but I couldn't add the stream overlays and I was trying to find a way to stream MY SCREEN specially in CSGO where I play CSGO in a resolution of 4:3 and I wanted it to show 16:9 in the stream. You got any tips for using the OBS in games without having a black screen? I've tried almost everything and watched almost every existing video about it.
I think I did figure it out on my Omen 17 one time, from a video like this:

Windows Graphics Settings > navigating to the OBS.exe, setting it, probably having to restart the computer for changes to take effect. Whatever it was, I didn't stick with it because I just got frustrated with all that and the GeForce Experience works on my Omen 17 laptop since it has only the 1660 and no integrated CPU graphics. But, I do have to wait 10 seconds and chop off that in video editing every time for the stupid little banner in the top right corner.

@@DoubleBizzy i already tried that graphics settings tho. DISPLAY CAPTURE works when its set on the POWER SAVING GPU which is Intel Graphics but even with the Display Capture on, it still black screens the games i play

Still do not see privacy controls...this issue is getting old. I can record with no issues on my desktop, but my laptop will not.
For laptop gamers who have MUX switch on their laptop use it change to your dedicated gpu it will turn on the privacy control

What I have done in the past is start a game, and then it will record the desktop when you alt tab out of the game

when I deactivate Intel HD Graphics it deactivates the video card too and the PC is slow, I can only deactivate Intel Graphics without deactivating the video card?

Just put your second screen as the main screen and only screen, and it should work. When you have finished it should work.

So I just purchased a Alienware - m15 R3 which has shadow play and it also will not record. I cannot even find the tab to toggle screen capture on and off. Return incoming
I have the same problem as yours on my device and I am very angry because of this silly problem, and I have another problem that you may have a solution for, my keyboard I cannot press more than 3 buttons at the time of playing and because of this problem I cannot play any game
There are some keyboards that can press multiple keys, and some cannot. Depends on the wiring / circuitry. I forget the term and can't find it searching Google, but higher end gaming keyboards can press more keys simultaneously.
Also, I've discovered that many laptops can't handle button pressing and trackpad use at the same time. For example, on one of my laptops we cannot move forward with "w" and turn and click / attack at the same time in Minecraft. So basically, my kids die every time they encounter a hostile mob.

btw you cant split screen with a monitor and have two seperate screens while recording, thats why it wasnt working for me. It started working again after I made the screens one and i tested it to make sure
