Another reason for contacting the port agent is that they can arrange to have your passport and prescriptions retrieved from your cabin in case the ship can’t wait.
That's a really good point I didn't think of. I have autoimmune disease and need to take a daily medication, can not skip it, I switched to 3 month refills for future travel plans, but never thought about that scenario.
Whoa that’s a REALLY GOOD point!!!!
Who leaves a ship w/o their passport?
@kovie9162 better to leave those passports in the safe of your cabin and just bring some copies, than happen to lose them during the shore excursion.
Yes! This is an emergency.
I’m always back hours early so I can eat in peace 🥴
You can eat in peace at any time any day on a Royal Caribbean ship. No need to rush back from port hours early!
We usually get back an hour early or more so we can do other things on the ship.
You can eat in peace any time on a cruise ship and there’s no way I’m coming back hours early when I pay money to go somewhere different, try the local cuisine etc I definitely get back an hour early to be safe or I’m at shops/restaurants right near the ship a couple hours before though.
Right? 🤣
Facts!
I was on celebrity cruise, and we did an excursion with the cruise line and got stuck because of a storm in the Bahamas. The cruise waited for a whole hour for us. best way to do it
We always book with the cruiseline for this reason. (Except Bermuda,, but we were there 3 days, and excursion was on day 2) We were 10 minutes late once in Alaska, but they waited as it was booked through the cruiseline!
This is why we always book through the cruise , it’s more expensive but worth the piece of mind. This guy giving viewers ideas that a ship “might” be able to wait is doing a disservice to his viewers we all know if you are not back at the port on time & you are not with a ship excursion you will be left. Perhaps one ship out of thousands waited a bit for someone but no one should ever expect that to happen because doing that they will be left at a port.
Definitely worth the extra $$.
@@tacoandmemes6890 totally agree. The one time we did a third party excursion and almost got left did it for us. A few more $ is worth the peace of mind. 🐾🐾❤️❤️😺😺🐾
We’ve sailed three times with Captain Rob, he’s one of our favorites. My husband and I yell across the house to each other sometimes in the distinctive way he does announcements on the ship 😊
😂😂😂 now I need to find a captain rob Cruise ! How ?
So many people saying just be on time. Wow Captain Obvious, that was so helpful. He’s addressing people who may run into a situation that is out of their control and they can’t just be on time.
Actually there is no reason to be late. The boat will leave. I think you are missing the part where excuse doesnt matter.
Hey Mimi, the world is full of surprises. Plan ahead
These comments are ridiculous. You can’t plan for an accident, I guess all of you can predict accidents and emergency’s.
@@thewatchfuleye8401 And if the tour bus you were on was in a crash?
There's multiple situations beyond people's control that can happen.
How about just getting back on time??
Sometimes it's not your fault, it's the excursion operators. But, if the excursion wasn't booked through the cruise line they don't usually wait.
@@adamhillier4937 We always book through the cruise line for just that reason. We were on an excursion that got us back late, but the operators were in contact with the cruise line and informed us that the ship was waiting for us.
You're on a non cruise line shore excursion and the bus you're riding in to your the island breaks down. Not in your control
@maskedmarvel Don't do non-cruise line excursions, and you don't have a problem.
Flat tire, someone ran you and your scooter off the road, you ran over a chicken and crashed the scooter, the car broke down, had to stop because of a poop, 🤷🏻♂️
This is absolutely true. This happened to us in Scotland. The ship waited for over an hour and a half for us. We were on a private tour.
We had a copy of the ships patter/newsletter
on us. The ship called us every 15 minutes to ask where we were
There was a fatality on a two-lane Highway we were on and the road was closed
I actually learned this from a cruise vlog sometime last year. It bares repeating, so thanks.
Was that a nude cruise?.?
That’s why i always always come back to the ship several hours before she leaves
Sometimes things happen. We were headed back 3 hours early when there was a very bad fatal accident that had roads tied up. We made it back within minutes of departure. BUT we had our port guide that they literally give you when you are walking off the ship (Carnival) so we knew who to call. I don't understand why people don't know... unless they don't take the port guide being handed out. I do notice people keep walking and don't take it.
@@ourblazingworld What port guide? I assume cause everything is in the "app" now. but we've never been handed anything whenever we left the ship.
@@aj-sz8muyou can request physical daily newsletters (or whatever they are called) at the main desk (or whatever that's called). I think you can also ask your room stewart to give you the next day's thingy in print.
Key is if they have buffer time. I wouldn't assume they have that luxury.
Carnival always has a 30 minute buffer period, back on board time is 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Other cruise lines idk
True. That is a very huge “if.”
If you book an excursion through the ship they already know that your going to be late. This information is helpful for those that do not book through the cruise line.
Even if the Captain is late returning the ship will leave him behind because there are up to 8 different officers that can control the ship. The only person that can’t be left behind is the Doctor because he or she is the only person who can perform medical treatment for everyone on board.
No
Is this true
Oh wow
I’ve personally met “Captain Rob” on My past two sailings with Royal Caribbean (Symphony in January 2020 and the Wonder in January 2023). Great Captain and one of the Most Professional Officers at Sea, Direct from Seattle!!
best comment EVER!!!❤
Me too. We met him on the Symphony of the seas. Wonderful dude! We gave him all kinds of props!
Be on time !!!!!!!!!
The port agent’s number is printed in the daily information you receive. It can vary from country to country or even port to port so take a photo or screenshot of it before you disembark for the day. You can also contact the cruise line number and they can point you in the right direction.
The vid said that
THANK YOU, for this information! I didn't know about the cruise port agent and definitely didn't kmow how to reach them.❤
I always go back 1 hour before departure 😊
Not enough time. One mistake and you will be fucked. Try 3 hours if you are doing an excursion. If you are just sitting on the beach then 1 hour should be okay
Wow. I guess I’m not as experienced of a cruiser as I thought. I’ve never thought to do this! Thank you!
1) I always assumed there was an emergency buffer of some amount
2) I’m not gonna fool around and find out how short it is 😅
Thanks for sharing!! It will never happen to me but😂 great info for everyone..
This is one of the best cruise tips I have ever seen. And I’ve been cruising since the 1980’s! 😮
Now that is helpful information. Thank you very much. 🎉
This is gonna make a lot of ppl miss their ship. DO BOT DEPEND ON BUFFER TIME!!!
As a long time royal Caribbean cruiser, I'm actually suprised I didn't think of this way sooner!
Thnx for the tip!
Been cruising for 30 years and did not know this. I aim to get back at least 2 hours early but this is super helpful! Thanks.
Super great tip. Just be sure that you’re factoring in extra return time for accidents, flat tires and such when you’re returning back to the ship. Give yourself an hr or two.
😳Thank you been cruising since 1998 never knew this 😉👏🏽💯💜
Here is a better idea. Make sure you will get back before the Ship Departs, or don't get off the ship.
This is the first time I've ever heard this.. Thank you for this information!!!
Great advice! Thank you!!!❤❤❤
Great info and from an avid cruiser I never knew this
Great to know! I hardly ever book with cruise line, so far never been late but I will snap a picture from now on. Thanks!
Thank you!!! And I didn’t know you were in Chattanooga, TN !!! This snow ( mess ) is ridiculous!!!! 😂😂😂😂
Hi Kevin! Yes, for sure! 😂
Excellent advice.
MAY wait for you
Here is a better tip... DON'T BE LATE!
DOOONT YOUUUU BELIEEEVE IT!
I still wouldn’t take any chances
Yup. Always took the port info with me. It help when you run into any problem.
This is still not a guarantee. The cruise line is still under no obligation to wait. Most of what you described is typically done as a courtesy.
He didn't imply otherwise.
@@cool_alienempire6884 it’s still not the best advice to try and put out there for folks to try and misuse. The port authority information is provided in case of a true emergency and you needed to try and contact the ship. NOT to be a backup plan when people decide to take their dear sweet time on private excursions and think “well the ship actually has fluff time. My all aboard isn’t 4:00 it’s actually 4:25 or 4:30” no it’s still 4:00
Everyone should just be on time period.. thousands of others listened and gave themselves hours in advance those ppl that are an hour or less making it back are ridiculous the chance of an excursion running late is very rare if you booked too late that's not everyone's problem. Word of advice to people- dont be that person
@@Lizzybaby30500obviously, it must be nice to have YOUR perfectly curated life where external forces are banned. For the rest of us humans, sometimes stuff happens.
Y. He states that😮😮
Thanks for the info. And you did it fast!😊
good to know! you never know when or what can happened.
Great tip. Thank you 👏🏽👏🏽
Hi Le-ann! Thank you!
When we were on an Oceania cruise there was a large group that had their own excursions and in me port the excursion was running late due to a traffic accident and the Captain announced that the group was running late and we would depart when they were back on board. I had an interesting experience on a tender pot and I had the tender schedule and I arrived in time for the next to last tender run but I was the last passenger so I helped the crew load all of their equipment into the tender and we left port an hour early.
But remember they will only wait for you if you come back in the buffer time. If you book an excursion with the cruise ship. They will wait for you until you get here. Because they talk to the Captain himself or herself. They will know how many people are coming and how long. So yes, there is a big difference between the two.
Great tip...thnx
I honestly thought this video was click-bait.. but I was pleasantly surprised. I have cruised many times, but did not know this. ty. ☺️
Thanks, I've read that but now I understand it. 😮😊
Also if you book with the Cruise Line and go with a tour group from the ship and the bus breaks down or gets a flat the ship will wait. This happend to me and my Wife while on Norwegian Cruise Lines when the monorail at Disney World broke down and we were hours late, as we got to the docks, there ahead of us was a very familiar looking Norwegian Cruise Ship.
Good info just in case..... Been on 16 cruises and did not know this!
Great information! Thank you!
So true. Was a port agent for years
Great information! Thanks.
Thank you!!
Thanks! I didn’t know this!
Nice tip, I probably will never need it but it’s good to know
Thanks!! 🎉
This is what we did when we were delayed returning to our ship and it worked for us.
Noted!!! Thank you
That’s really good to know
Thank you … it’s Good to know !!
Thanks so much
Excellent tip!!
I never knew this thank you!
According to what we have read, the cruise lines guarantees they will wait for you if the excursion (booked with the cruise line) is late. They use that as a benefit in booking with them. This is pretty well known.
Thank you.
I have been on 15 cruises and I did not know that thank you
Great tip👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. Thank you
Good to know!
im not a cruisong expert but me and my friends. usually aim to be back between 90mins and 2 and a half hours before the ship leaves . no need to pack every damn minute with something off boat
Thank you
Just book thru the cruise line
This is excellent information.
Hi Sandra! Thank you so much!
GREAT tip!!!
Always do your research for first time crusing.
Princess has the info on an electronic screen and asks you to take a picture of it on the ship. That makes it easy. Others seem to hide it in the daily programs.
Princess posted this info all over the ship on port days
Good tip
I've never gone on a cruise but I'm the guy who goes inside the station and beyond when on a long train trip, on station stops and between train connections, to explore, get food & drink, etc., and cuts it really close, but always gets back in time. But if I ever missed the train, it's on me, not the train line.
Great tip !
If it's something further away than walking distance always book through the cruise
Nice!!!!!!!
Please do not tell these annoying people that don’t care about other people’s time. Show up with plenty of time please. There is no excuse to be late. Done.
We are going on a cruise in 4 months so I need to send this to my mom
Sometimes the Pilot boat can also take you while the pilot takes the ship, and then you board when the pilot deboards.
Favorite thing is to stand on deck and watch the runners.
Good video
If you book an excursion through the cruising they will wait for you. And you don’t need to call because they have tabs on you.
Be on time people
I’ve heard of ones being left and have done these steps and ones that the cruise did wait. Too scary to chance that. 😳😳😳
Good to know.
I will never go anywhere in a situation like this where there is any chance anything will prevent me from getting back to my boat in time the sheer anxiety is enough of a deterrent for me.
We know!
Our excursion was an hour late. The ship had to wait for us.
Glad to know. I hope to never use this!
Here’s my Tip. Always Get back to the Ship 1 hour early before its scheduled departure. Just in case something unexpected happens and you have an enough time to handle it.
I know this to be true because I experienced it in the Virgin Islands.
If you book an excursion through the cruise line and it’s late they have to wait for you 💗
Every port visit lists the port agent and phone number on the daily news update. Just read the fine print people.
How do you contact them if you don't have a sim card for the country you are in?
