The Gamecube was Nintendo's best system. The games were legendary. Smash Melee. Mario Party 4. Double Dash. Pac-Man World 2 with the additional game that was a MP Pac-Man. DK bongos. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Shadow the Hedgehog....... so legendary
The controller was so good that people still use it on Switch games. Also I can literally still pull it off the shelf to this day and have no issues

I remember like in 2004 Xplay took a baseball bat to the Xbox, PS2 and GameCube and only the GameCube survived lol
My only memory of eyetoy was going to a friend's house and playing it with it for awhile. After about 20 mins or so, he looked at me and said, "dude, watch this" and proceeded to pull down his pants to reveal the biggest shlong I had ever seen and play the game with it. We were both teenagers in the same grade so I thought it was both impressive and hilarious until it got a bit weird when he got 'happy' and got extremely embarrassed. To put this bluntly, we were both in the closet until that day. After that we would still hangout and play videogames and other things but never really made a real relationship with each other though we stayed friends for years. 10 years later, he moved to California and we lost contact as school friends do. One day after work, I'm looking for something to relax off a certain hub site and there he is in a video, seducing a beautiful man who is playing a video game much in the same way our encounters mostly started and all I can think about is how the fucking eyetoy led to this.
Well that escalated.

I still dream about having a gamecube
I just bought a Japanese gamecube, orange and everything, from a buddy who collects retro games and consoles! Just waiting for an AC adapter that works in my country so I can play the thing.
I'm so sad he didn't mention F-Zero GX. For me it's the rival to Smash Bros Melee for best GameCube game, I actually like it more than Melee but I think that's because it never got any sequels. It was the last mainline F-Zero game and nothing that came out before or since can compare to it.

Gamecube was a good console with great games but with it competing against a console that doubles as a dvd player, it wasn't going to last...
Honestly they could have done more things with the GameCube don't get me wrong it is pretty damn good, but somehow I feel like there are things left unfilled if you know what I mean.
I had one years ago, and its from my late cousin. It still in good conditions but it doenst have any game, cable/adapters, controller or box with it. So my father wont bother check what it is and nobody cares it stashed on the pretty secured plastic containers in my storage room for years. The gamecube logo also covered with digimon stickers. I was such a little kid that to stupid to realized it was a game console neither my 2 brothers. So when I'm moving out 6 years later we just get it pawned in pawn shop and realized it was a game console, but since it was gamecube and in my country, no one of my age know any game consoles exist aside SNES, PS1 and ps2 (when ps2 is pretty much new, nintendo left my country market after SNES until wii U to battle with PSP and xbox came way too late to enter my country markets at early PS3 era) so the gamecube console at the time it was sold cheap. Wish I know what it is, at least today I can find bootleg controllers or game smh to play it since the console is looking pretty pristine.
I think i still have my eye toy camera buried somewhere. It was way ahead of its time.
While on the other console, i used my 360 csmera to record my youtube vids in sweet "480p". I still use my xbox 360 camera for zoom calls 😂

It's always so weird to hear that the Gamecube was such a failure. Sure, the PS2 was amazing, but everyone who had a Gamecube loved it.
As a.petson who had, I agree, there's also one of the most solid built of console of that generation. The issue wasn't the GameCube but the timing of it's launch.

I have a hacked wii that I use mostly to play gamecube games. I'm currently playing phantasy Star online on a private server. Why play wii games when you can play gamecube instead with no motion controls. Motion controls kinda suck to be honest. I own a few wii games, but they are all gamecube controller compatible.

I loved the fuck out of it, but man the game was just frustrating at times with its weird physics and clipping.

Okay GameCube games looking or playing worse is massive lie. Look at resident evil 4 ps2 port. It’s super muddy and dim looking. Resident evil remake was on the GameCube before it was ported to other consoles. Also during this generation of consoles when a game was put on all three consoles a handful of times the ps2 was the worst in terms of performance. Remember sonic heroes.

but it feels like some consoles are just abandoned and recieve very little games during their lifetime, i think PS3 was like that? could be wrong

@@bcd32dok36 It catered to a casual audience and after a few years its consumer base retention plummeted off a cliff; Software lineup was getting infested with garbage shovelware, Nintendo's insistence on requiring the Wiimote/Nunchuck, bleeding 3rd party support that carried over from the N64/GC eras, etc.
(All of that played a pretty large factor going into Wii U's failure, with tht systems own issues as well.)
Compare that with the Switch, it solved the bleeding 3rd party support, finally used a modern architecture, didn't demand devs on any sort of gimmick, software lineup is ALOT more healthy even with shovelware still present; And biggest thing was that it didn't lean heavily on the family/casual audience. (also merged its home console and handheld markets)
Overall the consumer base retention is a lot higher.
There is a lot more to it than the face value of hardware lifetime sales.
