  • 2024 #honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP vs CBR600RR #review - both have been significantly update for 2024 and both are heavily track-oriented but with the Fireblade costing more than twice as much as the 600, and making almost 100bhp more, does that make it twice as good?
    Michael went to Portimao in Portugal for a couple of 20-minute sessions on each.

    Just really happy to see Kawi and Honda keeping the sportbike/superbike inline-4 alive and well. I was personally hoping Suzuki would somehow make a new GSXR750 but I’ve given up on that dream. I ended up buying an RS660 in 2022 because I thought I’d tour a lot but wanted 90% of the feel of the 600cc class bikes I grew up loving. For me, I think I’d be interested in seeing what Honda does for a bit of a refresh off this bike in 2-3 years…maybe they’ll do a style refresh and bump a couple HP up. Something to consider I think.

      Personally, I prefer air-cooled inline 2-valves.
      Plenty quick enough for the road, low maintenance, with centre stand.
      Like Gpz1100 for instance.
      Of these two, I'd take the 6.
      No-one needs a litre anymore.

    In as much as owning a Fireblade has always been something I’ve desired even with 40 years in the saddle I still don’t posses the skills to use all of it on a track and there are no roads to do that on sanely with traffic basically ignoring us as is. Price notwithstanding. The 600 I have run the beans out of on more than one occasion and that’s enough for me but to own a Fireblade still remains a passion for me.

      Great comment. The Fireblade is certainly a machine that only a handful in this world would ever get close to using all of. I think I used the expression "refined agression" in my write-up mainly to describe the potential for being too quick and too able for mortals to ride, but the electronics allow us to think we're within touching distance.
      If you ever do have a spin on one, do let us know/

      @@bennettsbikesocialMichael I understand why the FireBlade must have electronics but the CBR 600RR still only makes 119 bhp and 50-odd ft/lbs so why does that 600 need electronics?
      My 2008 CBR 600RR with aftermarket Öhlins suspension and no slipper clutch is agile and easy to control, already.
      It wheelies at Portimao between turns 8 and 9 in second but drops the front before turn 9 so no wheelie control required!

      @@lonpfrb I'd encourage you to try them back-to-back. I don't know how you ride but 119bhp can still get you into trouble! 16 years of Honda-related development compared to your machine must have some effect on the bike. It's up to you to interpret if that's a good thing or not.

    The 600 is good value in todays market, the Blade is stunning but nearly 24k is not realistic for most people as a weekend toy and never going to get the benefit of its power on the road

  • @Jaibee27
    @Jaibee27 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

    600s are easier to find peak torque and power mid turn for most corners in 2nd and 3rd gear. On a litre bike 3rd gears peak torque and power is too high for most corners so you are limited to 1st and 2nd gear mid corner. But 1st gear is very twitchy just like it is not recommended for beginners to do wheelies in 1st gear. The advanced electronics make litre bikes perform like 600s mid corner, so the 600s dont need the expensive electronics because they already handle like 600s and get more useful engine braking from the higher revs. You only need a 1000 to get ahead on the straight but realistically not many race tracks have straights long enough to be at 300km/h for very long. So you only need a litre bike to have an slight edge on accelleration in a straight line but 600s are still more fun throughout the entire curve. On the street 600s are way more fun banging through the gears whereas the 1000s on the street barely make it out of first gear. For half the price id definitely get a 600 but if 1000s were cheap i would get one just to flex on the supercars because everyone wants something more powerful than a porche or ferarri. Its something we can afford, pal. And screw everyone who encourages people not to ride sport bikes because naked bikes are more comfortable. They ruined the bike market.

      @SystemAdministrator1 also, if you knew better, it takes much more skill to be fast on a liter than it does a 600, as liters are far more powerful, hence dangerous, especially on streets.

      @@patmartin4411 Your comment is too vague that I am uncertain of the point you were making. At first I thought you were saying you had a superior understanding of the subtle intricate details which differentiate the supersport and superbike categories. But now I know you were just trying to flex by showing off telling people you ride a 1000 🤣. Thats one of the points I made in my comment. You also said you are an old man now which is kinda sad thinking of an old man flexing on a litre bike trying to look cool in front of kids and speaking the way you do. My 2016 r6 is probably more powerful than the litre bikes you rode in the 70s. But if you are as cool as you say you are, I wont argue with that. Not many people in this world have that kind of experience unless they race professionally or spend a fortune on track days. So if you are at that level I respect you.

    The 600RR is twice the fun on a track for the average rider of today. Most people can't push 100% on the 600 let alone the Fireblade. Electronic control be damned they're too afraid of the throttle.
    If I could have a new 2024 600RR I'd request one without a slipper clutch and a mode that turns all electronics off. I'm old school. I still control the clutch and wheel speed manually. It's ingrained in decades of muscle memory and it's not going to change.
    Tell the camera bike to speed up a bit. The riders are struggling to ride so slow as their lines are all over the place. It's like following your elderly grandmother....lol.

    I remember years back I was loaned a CBR 600 while my bike was in having work done I was riding a GSX11 and riding away on the CBR it did not feel like half the size. It went really really well until...I went to overtake on the motorway and opened the throttle in top gear. The GSX11 would just surge forward but the CBR... Nothing happened!! Took a couple of down changes and then took off like a rocket. That's the only way you could tell the size of the engine. Fantastic bike in my opinion

      @@paul-ku Good comment. I already have a CBR650F and a CB750 Hornet. I want a CBR600RR just for fun days when I want more top end excitement. The Fireblade will do about 110 mph in 1st gear, so although it is a tremendous machine, the fact that I couldn't rev it out in any gear on the road is a bit of a deal breaker for me... I'm not really interested in jail time, a big fine, losing my licence, re-test when I get my licence back, then sky high insurance for the next 5 years, lol. My CBR650F will do about 59 mph in 1st gear, so I can rev it out in the 1st two gears and give it some in 3rd if I'm feeling a bit naughty, without being seriously illegal. I think that the CBR600RR would be similar to this, just with a higher red line, and quite a bit quicker to accelerate. What do you think?

    If I wanted the electronic garbage and lack of a fuel gauge, I'd have to seriously think about this.
    I think the 1000RR makes the most sense because it can become a 600 with software but also has the benefit of the 1000.

    I’d love to get the 600, but here in Australia, the price is ridiculous. Honda AUS are charging us the equivalent of 15,200 GBP, nearly 5,000 GBP more than what UK buyers are paying! What the f#$k Honda? 🤨

    What happened to centre stands by the way?

    • @bennettsbikesocial
      @bennettsbikesocial  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are partially right. For new bike launches it's the manufacturers that choose to use a racetrack. It's a lot easier for riders to test the full potential of a 200bhp superbike on a racetrack than have 60 UK, French and Italian riders terrorising the back roads, commuters and farmers of southern Portugese B-roads. When we used to do sports bike launches on the road it was mayhem and bloody dangerous. Plus, the manufacturers now have all kinds of legal responsibilities that were less prevalent back in the 90s when I started road testing. We always try and get a UK road tests done as soon as the bike is available for our written article. If we can do a video as well we do that too.
      As for centrestands, as a high-mileage road rider, I agree, but for sports bikes they compete for space where the catalytic convertor goes to keep everything tucked in for ground clearance. Although the CBR600RR with it's underseat exhaust is an exception to this and could probably accommodate a centrestand.
