      Looking forward to it! Thanks for doing these videos. I picked up two of these a couple months ago. Lots to learn!
      Thanks also for the link to pdf of the manual.
      How do I remove the air filter trap? Seems like it should be easy but?
      Also found one airbox with 1/2" of oil with gas smell. Guessing this is a valve issue or blocked case vent line?

    • @teamtrimm4461
      @teamtrimm4461  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really sure on the air filter trap as mine was remove by an animal be fore we got the 4 wheeler. Maybe someone in the comments has more info on this. Now the oil in there might be a check valve on the crank case vent hose. It could also mean there is a ton of blow-by. If the engine runs keep an eye on the oil level. If its burns oil might be time for a new piston and rings.

    • @EdgarHammer847
      @EdgarHammer847 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Engine runs, no smoke so I didnt think about rings. Bogs on throttle but had been running and riding so I assumed carb. Saw your video and decided to clean/rebuild. I will still do that and change/monitor oil. First I'll have to look for a check valve and breather line. No PCV valve like on an auto engine, I don't believe.
      Thanks again!

    Your channel makes me sad. It has superior information that is USEFUL yet only 440 subscribers. The sad part is, if you were making an informative video, then going off and doing something insanely stupid with it, you would get more. (please don't do that btw)
    Most of the comments too, they are from people like me that just want to know about their machine. I too have an LT 160 that I am desperately trying to make run. I need it to go from where I live to where I get essential items like groceries and meds 8 miles away. Walking that 8 miles is brutal. It's late may and already 100 f outside during the day. Watching what you have done to make your LT 160 run tip top has been very informative. Thank you. TH-cam needs more like you.

    Thanks, the video was perfect, we’ve had trouble with our quad idling at a high pace, and recently it wouldn’t start. I tried the usual: charge the battery, check the spark plug, use starting fluid, even put additive to the fuel but sure enough it was junk in the two valves. Thanks!

    stock air box intake is on the top frame tube (the one that runs just under the tank) I find that's plenty high for going through like 1¹/2 ft of water or more

    picked up a 160 and put a new Carb with the same style air cleaner in your video, do you have more info on how to re-jet the carb when removing the stock air box. Been dealing with the motor bogging on take-off from an idle and looking to correct the bogging. Great video, thanks for making it

    • @teamtrimm4461
      @teamtrimm4461  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always had a little bit of a bog from a dig if I go wide open throttle. If you have the same carb as the video you can adjust the mix a little more rich (add fuel take away air) and that may help. Also if your choke still works you can try to choke it a little to see if that has any effect. That will help you decide what jets to change to. I don't have a link but I'm sure there are plenty of full jet kits out there.

      You want to set it at about1500 to 2000 RPM. Start the quad and turn the screw till it gets to that RPM. Then adjust the air/fuel screw. Then brings rpm back down to what is needed to keep it running.

    First of all great video , very helpful. It looks like I have the same carb. How would I go about getting a rebuild kit? I can’t read my vin to find out my year of my 160. The only thing I can read is Mikuni 02c 02 on the carb. I looked it up and can’t find anything on the last part of 02. I just want to order the same exact rebuild kit that you did.

    I got a 160 on a trade and I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get it ti ifke at times. Yesterday i got it started after cleaning the carb. It idked after starting but as soon as i hit the gas it bogs down. I'm not sure if the needle needs adjusted. What position is your clip sitting on the needle? The air to fuel mixture screw has given me some trouble as well.

    • @teamtrimm4461
      @teamtrimm4461  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're definitely getting too much air or too much fuel from the secondary. If the carburetor was completely clogged I'm going to guess that you're not getting enough fuel. Did you clean both Jets?

    • @alyssadavis7789
      @alyssadavis7789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got it to idle a few seconds and stalls out. I pulled out the jets and noticed the smaller one looks like it has broken down in the carb. It looked that way when I first got the quad. It looks like I'll be looking for another carb. I just don't like the fact the price of the original carb.

    • @teamtrimm4461
      @teamtrimm4461  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a tuff spot... OEM carb is crazy expensive. Chinese carb will work but lacks adjustment ability. Maybe check the lt160 FB group? I'll bet someone has one. Either way good luck!

      Thank you! I will definitely have to check that out. I found another used mikuni carb on ebay for $45 so im probably going to purchase it and a new carb rebuild kit.. What size filter are you running on your carb? The carb hose I had broke so ill be buying a filter.

    • @teamtrimm4461
      @teamtrimm4461  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No sure what size it is... just one I had laying around from a china bike. Im sure you can fit one directly to the carb air side though. Amazon has them cheap. Good luck!!

    Can you say what your sweet spot is on the Fuel screw?

    • @teamtrimm4461
      @teamtrimm4461  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me it was like 3/4 the way out. But every carb is going to be different. Gently turn the adj screw all the way in. Next back it out 1.25 revolutions. Start the engine and make sure the engine is warm and set the idle at about 2000 rpms. Turn the adj screw .5 revolutions at a time out until you here the rpm drop. Then turn it back in until it goes back up. Stop and ride for a bit. Keep trying till you find your sweet spot.

      One thing that It could be on my end is that the sound from the camera is making it worse than it actually is. You are right though this 4-wheeler has always had a different sound than the rest of my four-wheelers. I have run this way for multiple years and have never had an issue. So unless you hear direct metal contact or you're damaging spark plugs I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure you're changing your oil regularly!
