Coros Apex 2 / Apex 2 Pro / Pod 2

  • I tested the Apex 2 during the last weeks of a marathon build and then raced in the Apex 2 Pro for the NYC Marathon with incredible GPS results. These two watches were excellent training and racing companions, striking a near perfect balance between performance, accuracy, and luxury. If you loved the minimalism and price point of the Coros Pace 2 but just need navigation, the Coros Apex 2 or Apex 2 Pro might just be the perfect watch for you.
Also, I spend a bit of time talking about the Coros Pod 2. The one very big fact I neglected to mention is that it is only compatible with Coros watches. (sigh. one day, I will get good at making review videos).

I too agree that 1.2" is the goldielocks sweet spot.. especially when these watch companies want these to be worn 7x24 and not just for running.

Good to hear that you picked this watch for the NYCM. I've been testing a lot of duel-band gps watches and the "duel-band" part feels really over rated on a lot of devices. Hope all is well buddy and that you're ready for your upcoming marathon! 🙌🏻

I bought apex2 few weeks ago & I return it for a few reason
    1. My old Apex42 Gps work as good as Apex 2 on my test
    2. Even Apex 2 has 1.2" screen the number is smaller than my 1.1" screen on Apex 42
    3. Current pace still lag & also distance on Apex2 abit off at the end of the run ( you can check on many review on Apex 2pro , Apex2 ) that's only happen to Apex 2 model , not apex 2 pro
So I think is good choice to buy Apex 2 Pro if that not too big on your wrist but not Apex 2.For small wrist runner I think Garmin 255s or even 945 lte , Pace 2 still a good option

I have the pro 2, pace 2 and pod 2 😂 love them all. Did a test today on the pro 2 vs pace 2 with pod 2, 100 meters off in distance and the lagging pace you bring up are really big without the pod 2 between them. So if you don’t need mapping i recommend the pace 2 with the pod 2, half the price of the pro 2. + pace 2 have ant+ which pro 2 don’t have.
I’m beta testing effort pace on the pace 2 right now and that Will be amazing for us runners. Easier to understand then power.

Nice review 👍 nice to see coros, trying to improve and compete with other brands. I do love the straps, I bought one to add to my Garmin 955, Garmin could take a note there. Coros is improving their interface and support to clients is great. Although a use Garmin, my preferred app would be Polor flow, i my opinion is easier to get the information as a runner then any of the others. But that is only my a opinion ☺️

      I'm on the same boat I have a 955
But have had a garmin watch since 2017 and wanted to venture out since Garmins ui on their app is so dated . Also just because.
I got a Coros with their nylon band and it was very comfortable.
I just couldn't keep it because I was so adjusted to the 5 buttons . And I use the watch through out the day for small things . Those two extra button on hot keys made a small but big difference.

    • @bb4prelude73
      @bb4prelude73 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh also one more thing . Their watch face data fields are not adjustable like they are on garmin out of the box . In the future I'm sure it will change since they listen to their customers
      Til then I'll stay garmin

There was a point on the NYC marathon course where we were coming downhill slightly and someone asked what pace we were doing. I had no idea as the numbers I was looking at seemed to still reflect the uphill pace. The pod would have helped out in that situation.

The sudden influx of influencers and athletes using/reviewing/marketing Coros is quite telling. Unfortunately, tactics like this are short-lived. While I do believe that Coros is doing a decent job at trying to compete, and that competition is always healthy for the consumer, the reality is that Coros is far more inferior to practically every other major competitor at this stage. The hardware design is truly bad (aesthetically and usability-wise); the lab-grown sapphire used is sub-par for whatever reason; the watch's operating system UI and UX is still in its infancy with many years of polish to come before it actually becomes comparable to the decade long improvement iteration of Garmin's offerings; Garmin (and others') algorithms across performance and health are superior as a far-gone conclusion. The list goes on. In regard to Garmin in particular, there is too much experience, talent, ecosystem, and traction to overcome by any current competitor, with the obvious exception being Apple and its similar engineering talent and ecosystem foothold. I have seen how this plays out. Strongly suspect users will be left "holding the bag" with their devices from a company that eventually has to pivot drastically or get acquired/eventually relegated. I think it's important to note the hardware aesthetic aspect considering this class of watch is supposed to be the all-day premium choice for fitness-first people vs those who want to spend time doing more than just fitness/health tracking on their watch e.g. Apple Watch Ultra. Also bizarre they could somehow mess up the hardware design so badly and think that the obnoxious "Coros" branding would appeal to anyone, considering the design of their web interface is solid. I do have respect for Coros's web team. Garmin is slacking there. Both would be wise to get social right and attack Strava.
