  • This the Coros Pace 3, and at $230 for a dual band GPS watch, it’s an incredible value. But is this a case where you’re getting more than you paid for? Or are there sacrifices that aren’t worth the savings?

Have been a Garmin user for years (FR 235/245) and also a Stryd pod user for nearly 4yrs. And while I agree with all your info regarding the Apple Watch SE, when paired with a Stryd pod it's a complete game changer for 50km runs and below. The ability to customize the AW via the Stryd app is amazing, and the audible alerts that, so far, are only offered in the Apple ecosystem are really helpful in training or racing. I still run with my FR 245 at the sametime, but it's there as a back-up only with the Stryd pod reporting to the Garmin via Ant+.
Thanks for the really informative watch review!

THANK YOU , truly!!! Choosing my first ever running watch is being a real puzzle, and this is by far the most helpful video I've found in days of watching reviews!! What a relief!!! AND reading the comments here is super helpful as well!! My jam is going out on big running adventures and I really want a watch to help me easily find my way on new trails out in the middle of nowhere where I've never been before ... I plot my routes on the Runkeeper app and often have to make adjustments out there in nature where sometimes trails don't even exist any more or unmarked trails appear. I would also love to have my music/audiobooks with me. If anyone has any suggestions I would GREATLY appreciate it!! THANKS again!!

I have not upgraded to the pace 3. My pace 2 was bought in Feb 23 and still works but my gripe with it is when I do my speed workouts, it gets a little slow to reflect my speed. This was not an issue with my Grit X which i HAD to change because the battery would not last me 3-4 days while I was on active duty.

I just got the garmin 255 on discount, it seems Garmin does a birthday sale around September every year in particular for their old models, so that's handy to know for anyone looking to upgrade. I used to have the garmin 245 and actually liked that more, but 255 does have better sensors and garmin pay is really useful.

Bought Coros pace 2 after great deliberation right about a year ago. Garmin would have been my second choice. But had heard that the battery life and the GPS connections were superior/faster esp the latter, in Coros, which mattered a lot to me. And the fact that Kipchoge wears one did it for me. Liked (and still do!) just about everything except “instantaneous pace responsiveness” which you mentioned. But didn’t feel it was as bad as 20 sec. Still, it interfered w my concentration enough during workouts and cruise intervals and Fartleks that I almost HAD to go for the stryd power meter; and combined w that, it’s game on all day everyday. Thoroughly enjoying the combined products; and i think for any serius runner, a footpod would be key even if responsiveness for pace was better (like in the Garmin).

Great review. I am a runner, and have used my Apple Watch for a long time. Don't live in a cold weather, but the battery live sucks. I've been looking at Coros and Garmin, and trying to decide if I makes sense to use a dedicated GPS running watch. I am currently leaning towards Garmin. A bit more expensive, but I read that the screen is more visible than the Coros, and the lag you mentioned would be important to me during interval training. What do you think?

@@tatoum9743 Im a triathlete, so i do 3 different disciplines, and have absolutely no problem whatsoever with the Apple Watch. You can train, and compete with the apple one, with no battery worries at all. The HR sensor is one of the bests in the market, but also you can use a chest strap if you want. Also the AW has thousands of running tracks mapped and you can use it to create or import structured workouts from any app. It’s only flaw when you compare it to a Garmin, is the battery, but the AW does a lot more things during the day, than only be useful for training sessions.

I sometimes run an interval training with a lot of 30s-20s-10s intervals and the 10s (all out) interval basically does not register at all. I also use the COROS POD2 which should remedy this, but when I mount it on my shoe, this does not seem to help. Was anyone successful in getting pace information without the lag using the POD2? If so: how? Or am I just unreasonable expecting it to be fast enough to register 10s intervals?

I want something super simple that will just give me a simple snapshot of my overall running volume for the week. Got the 255 music and the watch is great but everytime i see the coros app I'm so jealous.
I know garmin has done some ui updates but it's still got a lot of issues:
    - Back button skips back 2 pages e.g. go to health stats, go to performance stats, go to V02max, go back and it takes you to health stats (not a huge issue just annoying)
    - lap data requires phone to be in landscape to view all data and the landscape icon doesnt change it like say the charts do and doesnt just handle side scrolling either.
    - they might of got rid of it now but the info screen on charts felt like an app for kids with its formatting and the comic sans
    - you can only have 3+my day menu icons on the main nav bar and have to go to an awkward sidebar to get the rest
    - all the cool graphs are website only and I get thats on most of the apps but still annoying
    - the app is too wifi dependent, i should be able to go on it in airplane mode and get some data e.g. sleep for last week, current performance stats
    Rant over

Hey Kafuzi, thanks for the review! A few questions for you. Have you done a review on the Pace 3 EK edition? I hear it can store music and also has open water swim. How good are the pre-determined routes and pacing for workouts? How do those features compare to comparable Garmin watches. If I had to chose one extra accessory to go with the watch. Would recommend the footpod or the HR strap. I like the idea of having the accurate HR and option to wear the watch over my clothes for the colder winter months. Though don’t know if the foot pod has better features and benefits while using with the watch.

I have a 3 year old Garmin Forerunner 245. It's getting old, battery is now about half life or less. It's great, I don't really "need" a new watch. However, I run up and down hills so not having an altimeter is annoying- the Garmin metrics don't work properly. Also, it has always been a pain to connect to GPS to start the run. It started getting ridiculous, like I would walk for 1.5km, wait 5 minutes, still not get a GPS lock. Garmin said update the software, I did. It's now much better but it often does not connect to GPS quick and that is very annoying, when you're all warmed up in the cold and can't start because there's no GPS lock. When I tested a 255 it connected to GPS straight away.
I like a 42mm watch because I wear it all day. I tried the new 255 and it feels way too big. I always know it's on my wrist, in a bad way, whereas the 245 is completely forgettable. I do want to stick with Garmin but, the 255S is smaller, smaller screen, smaller strap, no good. The Coros Pace 3 seems to be a good alternative. Would love it to have a stronger glass and all that but, the fancy Gorilla Glass 3 on my 245 had a big scratch in it after about 3 weeks, so that didn't make much difference. A big scratch even though I'm careful with things and no idea how that happened. High spec small running watches, doesn't seem to be a huge amount of choice in that specific niché. Better they get, the bigger and heavier it seems.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 245 Music, I was on the fence between GFR245 vs Pace 3 but decided to go for FR245 on sale for few reasons, ability for FR245 to easily download and remove Spotify, HRV, Garmin ecosystem and other functions like stress and body battery, performance indicator. It has a worse screen than Pace 3 and inability to track open water swim and multisport mode. Just gotta pick and choose which is more important

All your videos are fantastic. After seeing the review you did of the Amazfit Cheetah Pro I had made the decision to buy it, but now I have seen the Coros Pace Pro and I have a doubt. There is something that really attracts me to the Cheetah as opposed to the Pace 3, and that is the Amoled screen, size and resolution, but there are qualities that are very important such as: GPS and heart rate and personal trainer.
