      Surprisingly the APEX 2 and 955 are pretty similar in weight even with the higher end build materials. But you're totally right, I love the fact that when I scratch my black plastic 955 it's still black and not a shiny metal streak!

      It’s true but I have a perfectly fine Garmin that works Internally but a plastic piece broke off that holds the watch band on so it is useless to
      Me now- this is why I am looking for a watch that isn’t made of plastic. I spent a lot of money on a Garmin watch and sadly cannot wear it on my wrist anymore because of the cheap materials they used.
      Very sad

    For me it's the 955 vs the Apex Pro 2. I've been waiting to see what the Apex Pro 2 has to offer. I used the Pace 2 for about 6 months to see how I like the Coros ecosystem. It's really good and simple. It works seamlessly with Stryd and creating workouts is a breeze. But angled dial on the Pace 2 is also easier to use vs the middle placement of the dial on the Apex series. It's subtle but harder to use quickly on the Apex watches. Though the Apex Pro 2 has a touch screen, so thats a plus. I just didn't like the Apex series vs the Pace 2 when I tested them together. I preferred the Pace 2 and found the mapping on the Apex series lacking. I've been testing the 955 and I have to say I really, really like it. And I was not a Garmin fan before. It just has way more to offer in terms of wellness, race day weather, calendar, morning report and race planning (pace pro, courses, Connect IQ - GRun). Coros has a better, more simplified and streamlined iOS experience but Garmin goes deeper. I think it comes down to battery and what u value more. Though the build quality of the sapphire screen is nice, I find the 955 to be really good and has the added solar too. The Apex being Titanium casing can get cold in the winter around your wrist--you feel it. The 955, yes its plastic but I think this will be better in colder months. There are other things I like about Garmin in the options as well -- endless screens for running. Whereas Coros you only get 6. I love these improvements from Coros and the battery improvement is awesome. Lots of ideas and feelings on this as I'm still not too too invested in either the Garmin or Coros ecosystem.... thanks for reviewing so quickly Dave. I would love to see a deep dive of the Apex Pro 2 vs the 955. Funny in the review you're wearing the 955!! All the best!! Great stuff. Thx

    I would not be too afraid of fiber filled polymer (called plastic here). G-shock has done that forever without problems, I've also had a Luminox with carbon fiber filled polymer which was very light and comfortable on the skin.

    Can't just figure out how the next Vertix could be, after seeing what great improvements the Apex series got.
    Anyway, from a long time Garmin user's standpoint, it's difficult to switch to another ecosystem while Garmin itself won't rest on its laurels ...
    Of course, a 20-30% retail price less is a huge argument for Coros, against comparable features.
    Kudos for the great job; as always, very informative and clear about any topic.

    I just recently got the alert from Coros about the Apex 46 recall. Even though my watch has been working almost perfectly I still am going through with the "free" replacement. They offered me the Apex Pro or $350 credit on their site. I decided to do some research comparisons and went with an upgrade to the Apex 2 Pro. Paying $149 more for something a bit more feature packed. Looking forward to it's arrival. The downside (yet totally fair) is that Coros will be able to remotely disable my current watch if I try to use it with the app. Again, totally understandable. They mention this on their website forums. Thanks for the excellent reviews!

  • @scriptosaurusrex
    @scriptosaurusrex ปีที่แล้ว +9

    They look really good.
    I have the original apex pro, and apart from extremely disappointing battery life (loads of people reporting this on multiple models atm, so hopefully this actually gets fixed....), I am very happy to have returned my absolutely not fit for purpose fenix 6 (non pro).
    I think the wellness tracking can (and maybe will?) be improved, but in practice the only thing the f6 did better was route planning in the connect/explore apps (and I can still use those, just need a PITA extra step). Although according to ultratrail steven coros are going to implement a route planner soon?
    I hear garmin is better for mtb as well, but rumours have coros are working on cycling metrics.
    I don't run in places I am not familiar with often, and if I do I usually plan my route in advance, so don't imagine I would ever need the in watch route creation, but in the interest of fairness, I will acknowledge that's another feature the garmins apparently do better.
    If I were buying a new watch today, at either price point, I would be buying the coros every time.

    I will stick with my two month old Fenix 7 but the Apex 2 and 2 Pro are nice looking watches with a very high build quality for your money. Something worth asking yourself before buying a new watch though is whether you want a new watch that will last for decades and still look good, or if you prefer the much cheaper plastic version, but the latest tech, and then upgrade every maybe 2-3 years instead. Personally I have been a Garmin customer since 2004 when I bought a Garmin eTrex Vista C (I still have it and it still works fine) so I will probably continue with Garmin just because old habits die hard.

    I am currently using a Garmin Vivoactive 3 and that is why I am looking for something else. After 3 years of using the Garmin is down to something like 60-70% of the charging. This means after roughly 300-400 charges I have started to switch it off during night not to destroy it even faster by loading every 2-3 days. Compared to my phone and expected industry behaviour I would expect that to not be on that level now. For Garmin a customer is a tester. So I am looking for a Coros next time.

    Thanks for a great review! I returned the Garmin 965 for an apex 2 pro because it integrates natively with stryd. I also like how Coros has nylon band options and better build quality. The downsides for me would be the mapping, less sharp display, and slightly smaller screen. Optical HR doesn't matter to me because I use morpheus for workout tracking and HRV data to determine recovery and HR zones every day. Garmin fitness tracking is just not as good. I also like how Coros is developing extra sensors like the band and the pod. I think this is the way to go instead of trying to make a watch do everything.

    Hey great review. I'm honestly feeling a little underwhelmed for this release. The screen looks super dull, I dislike the map mode that is not routable and no labels. There really seems like there's nothing new here from what every one else is doing. For my money I would definitely go with the Garmin option. I think an interesting comparison would be with the new Amazfit Falcon, which seems much more versatile with similar durability (except for onboard maps).

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It really depends on what you're looking for. These watches blow away the competition if you purely look at build quality, outdoor features, and battery life at this price point. The "dull" displays are there to prolong battery life for sport scenarios like triathlon/ultramarathon. The displays are a big step up from older COROS models but still transflective so they'll never beat an OLED. The Amazfit Falcon has some advantages but lacks the training tools, battery life, mapping, and more advanced sport features that the COROS watches have. It boils down to which features you prioritize as there's not really a "one size fits all" solution. Thanks for watching.

    Have been wondering when we'd see these. I had an Apex Pro, but had to return it as the screen was so dim that I had trouble reading it. Much has been upgraded in the system in general, and with the additional accuracy of the GPS, HR sensor, plus the addition of music and the foot pod, I am really considering the new Pro model.

    I’ve been a coros user for over 3 years now and my only complaint (and it’s a big one) is about reliability. My first watch last 15 months before it had battery issues and was replaced under warranty. The replacement watch lasted only year before it became unresponsive and now my 3rd watch has failed. I love the battery life of the coros but it’s otherwise let down by poor components. It’s back to Garmin for me.

    I am an owner of Vertix 2. I love so much about this watch but I was thinking of focusing on the one thing I do not like - the rotating maps. I see so little complaints about this and do not have experience from Garmin, so I'm thinking Garmin behaves the same way. What I am talking about is glancing at the watch to see my heading. It's rotating and can take so long time I can't be bothered waiting for it to stabilize. Is it the same with Garmin? I'd love to see a in-depth comparison between watches with maps. Thanks 🙏

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  ปีที่แล้ว

      All watches with mapping do this simply because it sort of makes sense? If you turn the map should turn to represent the path infront of you. If it didn't do that the orientation could become pretty confusing. I suppose a setting to enable/disable would make sense if there is a use case when this isn't desired.

    • @MrOnerider
      @MrOnerider ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChaseTheSummit Thanks for your response! I think I was unclear when explaining. It's rotating despite me standing still or heading in the same direction. I need to hold it up in front of me for 10 seconds or even more before it accurately shows me my heading.
