Just to let you guys know, I have been very sick, stuck in bed, for the last two weeks. I am finally getting better and the next video will be out this week! Thanks!
Chris, if you're reading this I want to tell you something. I don't have a car but I love watching these so I can prepare for he worst in my car. Thank you so much for all the stuff you do. Have a awesome day/night, keep up the great work man! Your videos are the reason I wake up. I rewatch then over and over to remember what to do when that situation happens. Thanks so much.
Getting the S spring back in was probably the hardest part for me, great video! You can actually change the steel and clutch plate sequence (using 2 old ones) to “clutch-steel-clutch-steel-clutch-steel-clutch” this will make the diff lock harder and better, especially for drifting!
i wear gloves anytime i work on a customers car. It helps somewhat on getting minor cuts but also helps protect from oils and chemicals I tend to come in contact with. They have also saved me from customers coming back and saying I left dirty fingerprints in their car.
Horizon Farming I started to it drives me insane having wax on my fingers or oil and I can’t get them clean so I just take off the gloves I don’t use them for real extensive work but they cut the time of oil changes in half and make waxing your car not a pain if you hate stuff on your hands
I've always been so intimidated by what looks like complex car repairs.. watching your videos has given me an insane amount of confidence that I can do my own work beyond the normal stuff I do (oil brakes etc.) I feel so much better not paying 200 an hour for someone to do something i can do myself! Thank you for making it so simple to understand and so clean to follow!
Ah the sickly sweet smell of Friction Modifier, how I miss you! 30 years as a Lincoln Mercury tech, I have done a ton of rear axle rebuilds. Your video is spot on!
I'm getting a 95' GT 5.0 baby!!! Thanks Chris fix for all the hard work you put into these videos and now I know how to do everything you have done on your baby, you do well deserve over 2 million subscribers for all you have done for them as well thanks and keep up the great videos!!
ChrisFix bro my mechanic remove my car door panel inside plastic cover while he install speaker. Now i am getting road side smell inside my car. U know.anything about that plastic cover
My car doesn't even have an LSD but these videos are so informative and so very well put together I watch them all anyway :D Keep up the good work Chris!
This is golden! Not only is it a how-to on installing carbon fiber clutches, but the overall procedure is the exact same on replacing your old worn out clutches with new traditional clutches too. Thanks Chris!
Helpful tip for anyone having trouble removing the C-clips: Give the hubs a few good whacks with a deadblow to push the axles in far enough to pull the clips out

Hey Chris! I just wanted to say that all your videos are fantastic in general, not only informative but also entertaining! This video of the clutch pack replacement was especially informative and saved me HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS by giving me the confidence to make repairs to my differential myself instead of taking it to a driveline shop. I own a 1997 Ranger/Mazda 4X4 and it has the 8.8 inch LS axle just like your Mustang. At the end of last winter I noticed a slight "clunk" that reverberated through the driveshaft whenever the truck was in gear and I either accelerated or decelerated. I could tell that there was some slop in the driveline somewhere and eventually determined it was in the rear axle itself. Back in the spring the clunk got worse and I was beginning to think I'd end up having to buy a used axle to fix the problem, mainly because I knew taking it to a shop would be more expensive than most used axles go for. I finally got the courage to open up the diff. When I did, as the oil began to run out, pieces of metal started to fall out into the drain pan; my heart sank. When I finally pulled the cover completely off I discovered even larger chunks of metal in the bottom of the housing, a couple almost 1/4 inch in length. I cleaned everything out/off with brake cleaner and then inspected everything, totally expecting to find the ring and pinion messed up. What I found was that both of the spider gears had chunks out of every single tooth. I was surprised to see that the side gears had a lot of wear but no damaged teeth. As I looked further into the diff I was amazed, and relieved, to find that neither the ring or pinion had any damage to them. What's more, they showed very little wear and the backlash was extremely small. Yay! (Amazing considering the truck has 265,000 mi on it. Guess that running full synthetics plus my annual ritual of changing ALL of my truck's fluids annually has paid off.) Still, I sat back and thought to myself that replacing all the internals would be a major job (and required the removal of the entire carrier assembly) and probably required tools I didn't have access to. It's worthy to note that the Ranger is my ONLY vehicle, and I don't have a garage to work in, so doing any work that would take more than a weekend was a BIG issue. I decided to take a break, have a cup of coffee and see what I could find on the Internet about repairing the 8.8 diff. Lots of stuff written on some of the ranger only sites and a few videos showing rebuilding the differential with the carrier on a workbench. Everything seemed to indicate that I was in for a big job. Looking around TH-cam I got distracted and kinda went on a tangent away from my specific search (go figure! LOL). I saw one of your videos about something (I forget what) and watched it. Then I noticed the carbon fiber clutch pack video and decided to watch it just for grins. I got excited when I saw you were working on the ford 8.8 axle; exactly what my Ranger has! By the end of the video I realized that replacing the spider and side gears not only didn't require the removal of the carrier, but the job was just plain dirt simple! I cleaned the gears and housing up really well, counted teeth of all the gears, wrote down all the numbers on the ring and pinion, buttoned up the axle and filled it with fluid. I decided that as long as I drove like I was walking on eggshells it would last a few more weeks until I could order all the parts. Locally all the parts were ridiculously expensive and all had to be ordered in (I'm in BF Nebraska), so I researched specs and searched the Internet for the correct parts. I eventually found all the parts, clutch packs and gears, online (all Genuine Ford Parts) for right at $200 (over $400 locally for aftermarket parts) and got them ordered. Everything was delivered in just a few days and after having to dodge several waves of cold, rainy and snowy weather, I finally had a break and went to work. Interestingly, the set up; blocking and raising the truck, removing the wheels, collecting tools, draining the diff, etc, took MORE time than it actually took to pull the old gears and clutch packs, set up the new ones and install them in the carrier. All thanks to your video! You da man!! I can't thank you enough for giving me the knowledge and confidence to do this repair myself. PS: You might wonder how and why the gears got screwed up, I sure did. I watched a couple of vids on how a limited slip works and, after pulling and inspecting the gears and clutch packs, I think I figured it out. I had loaned my truck to a friend in the late spring and he told me that he'd gotten stuck in a mudhole out in the country (so much for just "driving to town"). Looking back I realized that it was not long after that was when I noticed the "clunk" had grown much worse. I figure he did a lot of tire spinning and slamming gears between first and reverse trying to get unstuck, before he figured out that he had to lock the manual hubs I'd installed in order for the four wheel drive to actually work. The clutch pack fiber and steel plates were already extremely worn and the LS couldn't have still been working, so when the wheels spun there was enough force to cause the spider gears to jump a tooth, chipping them in the process. Those chipped pieces probably contributed to further damage as well. All in all I got DAMNED LUCKY that there wasn't more extensive damage. Moral of the story? Don't make exceptions and DON"T loan your daily driver to ANYONE, not if you want it back in one piece! LOL
I know how to do about 90% of the stuff can do, working in my families auto repair shops and going to school for autobody repair. But I still watch all your videos. They're very well done. Honestly you explain things better than my teachers even did. Keep it up man. I know this is an older video. But I subscribe and love them. Seems like all one take and done effortlessly. 👍👍👍
Chris here is a comment that may brighten your day. At my job, a Ford mechanic walked up to me and said Mustangs are the easiest vehicles from his experience to service! I look forward to getting one too. He offered to help pay down on a Mustang GT that I had my eye on at the dealership.
It's inspiring/refreshing to see someone who is enthusiastic at their work and really good at it, and he's also helping at least thousands if not millions of people.
This Guy is GOOD! No wonder he got 2.4 mil subs. Way to go man. If I ever get some money, you can be sure I'll be putting some your way. Luv ur Stuff. I mean, I remember teachers who would explain stuff to me in the classroom and I'd just end up more confused than ever. You, Sir! Have an ability to explain (while demonstrating what you preach!), with so much clarity, my brain, far from being clogged and befuddled is just screaming out for more! If I carry on any more, I will be accused of being your brother, or your mother or anyone with a vested interest. I have no vested interest. I live in London. And this Dude is The Man! That's it. Better stop before getting accused of stalking! Maybe this guy isn't so good after all. My comments seem to vanish into the ether once I edit them. Let's see if this one disappears also...
/I notice these comments are older. Today 7/30/2023 I watched this and the dual caliper install I find Chris to be an awesome instructor. Thank You Chris!!! Best of luck.
As usual, great video. Just one tip, when you pull the axle out, don't let it rest on the seal as it can distort it. Better to just pull it out all the way or atleast have a jackstand and support it.
Chris, you are a car newbie/enthusiast's dang hero! I talk to other people who work on cars and their first response: "oh that's a tough job, pay someone to do it" I search "how to .... on my ....": "ChrisFix!: Hey guys! This is how you can ... on any vehicle at home with common tools!" Love it!!!
The clutch kit you got works on a 28 and 31 spline axle. The s spring in the kit is made for a 31 spline axle. I did the same thing as you and used the original s spring.
If you don't have gasket sealer, anything that is tacky or sticky will also work,.to hold the gasket in place. Like a skim coating of grease,.or even petroleum jelly. Something I learned replacing the gasket on a trail fix on a friend's Jeep, years ago. It's SOP for a trans pan gasket as well, and is often used when replacing oil pumps, as a packing material, to ensure that first prime on start up. On the pin bolt, been there, done that. Bolt walked out in my 89 Dakota Shelby, driving back from Buffalo NY, in 98. Shattered one spider gear, snapped the shaft, and gouged the housing. Ended up cpntacing Currie, and swapping in a twin trac 8.8 unit from an Explorer, at that point, built by them, as well as going to 3.73 gears, from 3.55s. Lowered top end a little, but you could feel the difference when you sank the loud pedal. Shaved 4 tenths off in the quarter, which is what we built it for. Ex wife now owns it, a gift from us, at a couple tracks in her area.
Hey Chris, can you make a video about maintaining leather seats?? It will be a good idea since almost everyone are starting to complain about how bad their leather seats has become over the years. And sorry for my bad English
GREAT JOB - Hey Chris, Valvoline Engineer here, getting ready to replace clutch kit in the Dana 44 under my daughter's Jeep... this is the first video I watched and no need to look for another! good job! Also want to tell you that Valvoline just released the "Flexfill" gear oil packaging (squeezable bag) so you won't need that pump next time! Cheers!
Every video should end with a burnout! Seriously, bro, I have had degreed teachers who cannot give instructions as well as you do. You truly have a gift! Great video
Hey Chris I am 12 years old and I have been watching you for about 3 years I am a big fan of you I have watched all of your videos I have got a Vauxhall corsa 1.3 to drive in and I want to get a mustang like you and go to car shows Yours seriously Ryan Mcinally
This video was perfect for my 03 Mustang gt! I've been following and learning from ChrisFix for years! I'm 99% sure if he had a "Hey Guys! This is how to remove a burst appendix so you don't have to wait in long lines at the ER!" I could do it. Next level educator here!
Ghibin Kim turbo being more reliable doesn't make any sense, because a supercharger is mechanically simpler. And sound is just preference. Some people, like me, like supercharger whine.
chris when you went drifting for the first time do you how how much stuff you had to do to get it ready to drift if you know please reply back and P.S your mustang is awesome
crazy thing is, I had a ford f150 and the differential went out on it. so I got rid of the truck, after watching this video, I now know I could have kept that truck and replaced my own differential, thank you ChrisFix
Paint is an insulator and doesnt transfer heat as good as aluminum. Even if we increased the surface area, you still need something that transfers heat well. Great question!
Years after the fact - but finally have that diff cover from this vid on order through Amazon, along with 3L of 75W90 and the cover gasket. (Crown Vic LX, open diff; it doesn’t need 75W140 or friction modifier.) Within two weeks, the rear end will be partially overhauled (it’s getting shocks too). You inspired me on this one, Chris - thanks a million. :)
I used to think that fixing these type of components r hard but Chris helped me out by doing these videos n thankfully I have all the knowledge I need to fix my car by myself if I have one in the future
Literally makes me wanna get a mustang so i can have some step by steps to build it up. Your walk throughs make me feel like a pro when i take my car apart. Even though its a completely different car as well.
You said open diff and limited slip. But you forgot to say that there was also a traction control button. It does open when it's on and limited slip for when it's off. :D
@@chrisfix Is there actually 10,000 types of rear differentials. My dad's 2013 Chrysler 300s is stock lowered and it has a differential drain bolt built-in. Is that another one?
PS. We went on a 7 day/1 week cruise. My mom's dodge journey battery was nearly dead (no lights was on in/outside the car) and it is a 1 year old battery. Before it was okay, then when we came back, it was dead. How do I fix that?
@@Mrkizzmee69 You have a parasitic amperage draw on the battery. Even when a car is off it can drain the battery due to something being plugged in, the radio using power to store its memory or a light maybe being left on. If you can't find the draw have the battery and alternator tested. In some cases the battery can go bad even after one year of use. It just depends on how its used, where it is stored, and if it is being charged and regulated properly. And with the alternator, make sure it is charging the battery correctly. If it isn't, then a car will run the battery down and then when it sits by itself it will kill the battery to the point where charging it is no good. Best of luck!
@@jeremymalmstead5336 we used jumper cables and a few min later, it started. And now it still starts without jumper cables. And the alternator has no problem. And my mom drives a lot. So it's probably driving a lot.
New subscriber, great vids and looking forward to more, this is the first time I've been impressed with/.. As a machine tool builder we mark the bolt and plate with a white marker so later you could check if/.. instead of just the top of the bolt, again good knowledge here on ur chan, just some thing to help those who are doing and showing the real deal..
I'm an old guy, for someone who worked thru the ranks you had to have an uncle, father, something to teach you how, you couldn't of just learned it, lol, thanks for teaching true knowledge, it helps thousands..
Just to let you guys know, I have been very sick, stuck in bed, for the last two weeks. I am finally getting better and the next video will be out this week! Thanks!

Getting the S spring back in was probably the hardest part for me, great video! You can actually change the steel and clutch plate sequence (using 2 old ones) to “clutch-steel-clutch-steel-clutch-steel-clutch” this will make the diff lock harder and better, especially for drifting!
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks a lot man! I am glad you are learning a lot!!!
I have a manual that desperately needs a new clutch assembly, can you please teach us how to change a clutch ourselves
Drew price this ^^
Drew price I'm 160k in. I have a feeling it will be needed soon as well!
Drew price Scotty kilmer shows how

I don't know why but for some reason I am binge watching u chrisfix keep up the good work man!
Hassan Rehman me to but I lost it when he said " today I am going to be showing u to rebuild your LSD" XD XD XD XD
Chris, you are a car newbie/enthusiast's dang hero!
I talk to other people who work on cars and their first response: "oh that's a tough job, pay someone to do it"
I search "how to .... on my ....": "ChrisFix!: Hey guys! This is how you can ... on any vehicle at home with common tools!" Love it!!!
There is a good reason your videos are trending
Thanks Humza!
You're welcome
Humza Mirza AND THANK YOU FOR THE RIGHT YOU'RE AAAHH

the chris has never made a mistake.
I don't have a car and I'm not gonna repair any car related parts, I just enjoy the video
I wanna re build my LSD but the dragon in front of my door says other wise
I don’t get it
Delairium hes tripping cuz lsd is also a psychedelic drug

You should know that you never catch the dragon
@@bagginn It's a joke about drugs and "chasing the dragon", i.e. chasing that first high
Mom, "have you seen my white serving dish? I have company coming over for dinner"
Chris, "nope, haven't seen it! Now, add your friction modifier"
So underrated🤣

Chris-cross pattern
Does anybody else goes along with Chris when he says "Hey guys, Chris Fix here!"?
Hey Chris, can you make a video about maintaining leather seats?? It will be a good idea since almost everyone are starting to complain about how bad their leather seats has become over the years.
And sorry for my bad English
naif abd Leather conditioner. No excuses!
Cheers!
1 year later , how to install airplane wings on your mustang.
*AirStang
ChrisFix this is why you're the best, but if you don't mind me asking, where is the breaker bar? Are you having an affair with your torque wrench??
hey if they can install air plane wings on hondas and brzs i dont see why he cant do it on a mustang
This guy gets it ^^
Sabah Abdulameer they already made mustang fighter planes for the military a long time ago, that's where Ford got mustang from
I love this channel I've been here since the fish net throw tutorial its amazing how far you have come!

I'm a simple dude, if I see ChrisFix, I like🤓🤓

ChrisFix = legend
I would love to see you do bigger projects like maybe supercharging that v8 :)
He gon probs do that real soon
Bcuz on a tt video he made he showed and said that its going on the mustang
Why do people unlike this video? His doing an educational video. Respect the knowledge and try to take as much as you can from this guy

16:35 I thought he was gonna say “the last thing we need to do is a burnout
Same hahah
Iii
Thank you Chris! I am about to do a 5 lug swap on my Fox, and I may as well rebuild the clutch pack while I'm there.
Awesome and yea it is a huge difference especially if you use the carbon fiber clutches!
Wow, tires are spinning like hell
Every video should end with a burnout!
Seriously, bro, I have had degreed teachers who cannot give instructions as well as you do. You truly have a gift!
Great video

This video was perfect for my 03 Mustang gt! I've been following and learning from ChrisFix for years! I'm 99% sure if he had a "Hey Guys! This is how to remove a burst appendix so you don't have to wait in long lines at the ER!" I could do it. Next level educator here!
Can you please do a video on how to clean the interior :)
Genji Shimada try playing the damn objective, genji
go watch AMMO NYC
Honestly ammo nyc is a great
It's time to install a turbo
kyleflicker or a super
kyleflicker more linear power
Eh too early for a turbo
Def should do a supercharger.
Ghibin Kim turbo being more reliable doesn't make any sense, because a supercharger is mechanically simpler. And sound is just preference. Some people, like me, like supercharger whine.
*Chris fix... do you fix relationships as well* 😔
mr rambo hoax hoa
ha, no comment
chris when you went drifting for the first time do you how how much stuff you had to do to get it ready to drift if you know please reply back and P.S your mustang is awesome
Chris *"not fixable"*
I think he had a video which he talked about how to get your car drift ready or something
crazy thing is, I had a ford f150 and the differential went out on it. so I got rid of the truck, after watching this video, I now know I could have kept that truck and replaced my own differential, thank you ChrisFix
if it wasn't for chrisfix, my car would be destroyed by now
Im glad the videos are helpful!
I'm surprised you didn't paint the cover.
Painting the cover would hinder the heat dissipation.
What Matthew said. It is aluminum and painting the surface will put a barrier between the aluminum and the air which heat transfers.
But then again isn't paint thicker than air + you increase the surface size of the cover (by small amount) thus actually increasing heat transfer?
Paint is an insulator and doesnt transfer heat as good as aluminum. Even if we increased the surface area, you still need something that transfers heat well. Great question!
That would be too gay.
Remember Chris puts a lot of effort into his content, its quality over quantity and this is some quality content A+ for you Chris
Thanks a lot!!!!
Years after the fact - but finally have that diff cover from this vid on order through Amazon, along with 3L of 75W90 and the cover gasket. (Crown Vic LX, open diff; it doesn’t need 75W140 or friction modifier.)
Within two weeks, the rear end will be partially overhauled (it’s getting shocks too). You inspired me on this one, Chris - thanks a million. :)
Chris can you make a video on how to get small dents out, I'm not sure if u ever made that video on how to get it out with ur dads jag
and, if you don't have a dildo, just use boiled water. wash the dent with the boiled water, and from the inside, hit that part until the dent is gone
Spiffy Jay, Laughing My Fucking Ass Off!!!!!!! That was god damned funny bruh!!
If you have dents on your car just throw it in the junkyard and buy a new one.
Might car mods has a video on that
Ren Ren even if it's new and from a rock?
I love the saying "Out with the old and in with the new".
Are you going to do a tutorial on how to retread tires after a burnout? :P
idk if car tires are re-threadable. afaik, only buses and trucks that got re-threadable tires
lol, I will include that in the next drifting video!
ChrisFix When's the next drift video !!!!?
Isnt that dangerous and illegal?
@bro? Pretty sure you are correct. My comment was mostly sarcastic. Most car tires don't have enough rubber on them to re-tread.
I used to think that fixing these type of components r hard but Chris helped me out by doing these videos n thankfully I have all the knowledge I need to fix my car by myself if I have one in the future
you need to remeber that this spring is under tremendous amount of pressure, NOW TO REMOVE IT WE ARE GOING TO USE A HAMMER
*Next vid*
"How to LS swap a mustang"
Lets see where this goes..
Never know!!!
ChrisFix how much was the clutches all together?
Virgil Dennis a destroked Ls3 is an awesome motor, you can turn 8000 rpm lol....in a v8
chris teach how to repair your car not how to make your car go to the junkyard easy.
Osvaldo Cruz exactly! Pull that garbage out of there and drop in an ls3, I'm sure summit or jegs will give you an awesome sponsorship deal!!
7:33
-And to remove it, whe will use a hammer.
I was like oh shot, something isn't going to be right...😂😂😂
Literally makes me wanna get a mustang so i can have some step by steps to build it up. Your walk throughs make me feel like a pro when i take my car apart. Even though its a completely different car as well.
You said open diff and limited slip. But you forgot to say that there was also a traction control button. It does open when it's on and limited slip for when it's off. :D
Thanks for sharing. I could name 10000 different types of differentials but I covered the two main types.
For 3 million subscribers you should take the driftstang and do a top speed run
an NPI SN95 Mustang tops out around 140mph

thats what a broken axle acts like ... not like the guy has x ray specs

Thanks a lot! Glad you’re learning a lot
I'm an old guy, for someone who worked thru the ranks you had to have an uncle, father, something to teach you how, you couldn't of just learned it, lol, thanks for teaching true knowledge, it helps thousands..
When will you install a roll cage? A couple videos back, I saw a comment asking asking that and you replied and said you would do it
Yes after the suspension is done.
ChrisFix Cool!
Its rare to find good content on TH-cam.
I guess this is one of those rare channels
Yo I found your channel bc I saw your truck on olio rd 😂😂😂😂
+Lonzo Ball awesome!!!
Nice neat work Chris. One of my bucket list items is to install a L.S.D. in my Miata rear end. We eat Mustangs. Not yours though bro.
Just watching oldish videos of yours. Just waiting on that "how to install a supercharger" video!!! Lol
Awsome video. I have worked on cars all my 45yrs rear ends are one of the few things ive never had to rebuild. Super helpful thank you.
Thanks a lot!
Can you make a tutorial how to fix dented/damaged body parts ?
Nabil Fiqri agreed!
Nabil Fiqri you should have a surgeon fix your broken body parts
