"I don't see this diff ever breaking" In my personal experience, you just awoke every tiny flaw in that thing. You can't just speak bold statements like that without cursing yourself.
I drove my 350Z with a welded differential for over 2 years. The only issue I started to worry about was transmission wear. My 3rd gear would grind occasionally and I always believed that my differential had something to do with it.. (shaking, abnormal stress, etc.)
I will never forget the first time I swapped an open diff for an LSD. I was blown away how much more power I was able to put down and how much sooner. That's a phenomenal upgrade if you are serious about driving. For the street on the other hand??? I don't know if it is worth it. As I don't see a reason to drive that spirited on street roads. Maybe I am just older now. ;)
I had an 84 Camaro with 3.73 posi and I now own an 82 with an open diff. Waaay more confidence in the 84. I could push that car hard, drive it in the snow, etc. My 82 now can barely handle it in the rain. If it even smells like it might rain, that car starts spinning. The bigger motor might not help with that though ;)
Chevrolicious Something tells me it’s that bigger engines need to be revved and pushed harder. Hence the increase of LEAD in a man’s shoes. But what do I know? ;)

Welded the diff in my 90 Chevy Silverado short bed single cab and got about 2 months worth of fun out of it before it re converted itself back to the one tire fire option. Worth it!
The metal plate in the middle of the diff was the right idea, and something we (in sweden) learn by trial & error. Just welding the gears WILL result in it failing eventually. The middle plate adds so much more strength its virtually impossible to break (if you weld right). However, long term, because welded diff cant move at all, other components of the drive line do take more damage and wear over time.
Hold on, if you had to put the footage in black-and-white, then why did you release the Bumper 2 Bumper episode that involved those two cars after they were finished?
Yeah they kinda pissed me off when I saw this I watched the whole series as it came out on Facebook the fact that they released the exact same thing here just almost a year later seems lazy to me like hey we need to make a little bit of revenue before the new year oh yeah let's just rerelease high low on youtube and go on vacation

VLSD was essential in driving my 240sx in 4 season weather. It helps tremendously in the snow and rain. I also had a Nismo 2 way and a welded diff. The nismo was good for most weather but the welded just sucked in the wet and snow. I put 600hp with 10.5 drag radials through the welded and nismo lsd without any failures.
I remember the squares in my family thought my esb brakes were in need of replacement because they made a brushing noise lol not to mention the sticky tires throwing small rocks and stuff up into the metal wheel wells sounded pretty broken lol
Lsd over welded all day everyday. I am sure you will see the difference once those cars hit the track. The more expensive z will start to really improve as the performance of the engine is improved. The more expensive car at its present form will blow the cheap z on a roadcourse.
Lsd is way better for time attack/grip scenarios. Locked diff makes putting power down a little more tricky and the car will "push" more without the different wheels speed throughout the corner
I was pretty put-off by them making statements without getting it on a track... the LSD makes a HUGE difference in handling. Also, a welded differential just eats tires on a daily and if anything does break, it's not going to be the differential, it's going to be an axle.
The issue with these cars is that there is a gear oil pocket inside those differentials that once it burns up it goes from being a limited-slip to being an open diff I did this to mine which is why I bought one and welded it and it was way better is better in the snow it was better in the rain it was better in the sun I knew exactly what my rear end was going to do and I knew it was going to put the power down when I wanted it to instead of skipping
@@DmOcRsI also puts extra jarring load on the tail shaft and uni joints. I've got a mini spooled diff which acts the same as a welded diff but just stronger/reliable, but I've had to replace uni joints. Especially so when you've got a supercharged car doing clutch dumps from stand still lol.
I was raised in a GTO with a welded diff. When you are 4 years old and you can feel the front end lifting up you never forget it. Oh and we have snowy Winters here.
11 years ago I bought a '70 Maverick that came with a welded 9-inch rear. I put a 250 HP 302 and a AOD in it . Smoke both 275/60/15 rears often and I have had no problems.

The Torsen LSD in my car (1995 Miata) is one of my favorite things about the car, but I hate how pretty much everyone I've tried to engage in a convo about it had no idea what a Torsen limited slip differential even was.

This series is so much fun. It's silly fun but still mature. Just what we need to know without all the clickbait huff and puff like some other channels. Love this and CAR WARS!!! :D
I've had both on the same car. I prefer my 2 way. Just have to watch out sometimes decelerating too quick the rear end will lock up, If I were to buy a diff now I would go for a 1.5 way just because i'm not into drifting as much as I used to be. Problem with a welded on a daily is you definitely eat up your rear tires a lot faster and its very hard on your rear suspension or axles on every small turn. Also a welded diff your car wants to go forward, can be more prone to understeer if you don't want to break traction and drift around a corner.
I realized this episode that I'm watching an episode of some of the most popular car enthusiasts out there, and these guys don't even know how to work on their own cars. They don't even know how to use gasket maker... Let that sink in. I thought I was watching experts from all the kinda stuff they release, but no. Have you driven a welded diff in the rain? It slides around at any sign of water. It also makes chirping noises in the parking lot due to your inner wheel not spinning at the same rate as the outer wheel and it causes tire wear.
Main advantage of LSD is you can modulate the diff lock by clutching in(because the diff is not locked when car is in neutral) or if you have a 1 or 1.5 way LSD, braking or deaccel as well. Depending on how you drive this can give you a lot more grip during drifting, and is undeniably superior for grip racing. They will perform the same if you just do donuts or only drift by power, but it gives you a lot more control especially if your car has lower power. With a lsd you can also usually get away with a stock ebrake, where as a welded with any kind of kind of grippy tire you’ll usually need a hydro to get it to lock consistently since it takes a lot more braking force to lock two wheels that are always connected to each other instead of spinning independently. There’s merit to both, but because welded benefits from more power and hydro, I think the cost difference is not that bad EDIT: added a few details for clarity!
