    Hi Don, I want to say thanks, I might get to see you while unloading your truck. I don't work for Walmart but I do have to do my own self checkout because they have cut back on checkouts with someone to check you out. I hear now we are going to have to unload the trailers before self checkout. Might see you soon. Take care drive safe.

      LOL you might be right on that just kidding but the main point I see in that situation is they don't want me getting hurt so I'll still be standing there watching you or somebody else unload the truck while I'm getting paid. Seriously though I work for the distribution Center which is a whole different world compared to the store even though it's the same company. Personally I like the self checkout because I know I'm faster and more efficient than anyone else LOL the only problem is the lines are long in the self-checkout nowadays.

      I don't believe in coincidence much but I was just talking the other day with my wife about this type of thing. Everything I've been successful with in my life has been something that I believed to be true and had very little doubt throughout the process even before I got started. So what you think then you shall be. Our biggest problems in life are not the hard or seemingly impossible task in front of us but our own mind saying that we can't do it or we will fail. It will happen just don't give up.

      Yes I hear in some locations It's not as good as others. I can only go off of what people say so I'm not sure. I don't get anywhere near the miles I got over 10 to 16 years ago but I make much more money than back then by far. As far as Red Bluff goes they definitely change the pay to Make up for less miles and wait time. It's not hard at all to make over a hundred thousand a year at the Red Bluff DC.

    I’m planning on coming in with Walmart the beginning of the year. I’m going to quit smoking. Does Walmart hire drivers who smoke? What’s their policy

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure they hire drivers that smoke as a matter of fact I've been a heavy smoker for years. Fortunately I still have one of the older trucks and I smoke in it but they're going to retire it really soon and I'm not going to be able to smoke in the trucks anymore. Fortunately we have to stop a lot to drop and hook or get loaded so I can time my cigarettes out at those times and probably stop at rest areas along the way. The reality is I've been smoking since I was 14 years old and I'm 50 now so I really should have quit a long time ago. We will see what happens.

    Hello Don, I was born and raised in Red Bluff I'm trying to get my class A soon, already have my dot physical done. Does Walmart hire new drivers? Do they have there own trucking program? I see that they are hiring all the time but it says 2 years required... is that a hard line that they take? Thanks.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's 30 months experience tractor trailer driving. They do have their own program but right now they're only allowing people that work for Walmart like at the distribution centers to enter that program as a new driver. Unfortunately the general public has to have the 30 months experience. Believe it or not 30 months goes by pretty quick so I wouldn't give up hope working for Walmart. Just make sure you don't get into any accidents or trouble in those 30 months and you'll be a wonderful candidate to work here.

    I was curious? your home time on the weekends do you get a full 2 days off or how does that work for you.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your schedule is you work Monday through Friday for example then you will be home on Friday night at the latest and back to work on Monday morning at your start time which is the same everytime you start your week. For me I work a five on five off. So I work 5 days and then I get 5 days off and then it repeats. I always get home on my Friday evening and then my start day 5 days later is exactly the same no matter what. There are some schedules where you work 6 days and on that 6th day you may get home early depending on whether you wasted your 70 hours or you conserved your hours throughout the week. The point is any day that you have off will be 100% your day off from start to finish. And this is generally without fail for years on end unless something unforeseen happens because you know we don't live in a perfect world. That pretty much never happens for the most part.

      @@TreyWK I could if I worked all my days off but I don't do that. I work a little over half my days off and I make about $95,000 - $100,000 a year. I suppose the question would be why not just work full time. The answer is I want the option of taking off an abundance of time off when I want and by doing this schedule I can pick and choose how much I work instead of being required to work all the time.

    Ive heard ups fedex saying 50 % reduction in usual freight this holiday season expected . Is Walmart dealing with low freight volume too this upcoming season? Id like to maybe one day work for walmart but it seems like economic woes could make available positions scarce. I don't think I'm close to a walmart DC but in the event I move to where I'm close I'd like to know how down economies effect walmart pay and hiring.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Walmart controls all their own freight that's why we're a private fleet. There's no slowdown for us at all as a matter of fact they're extremely short on drivers and desperate to hire. They're paying $110,000 a year for your first year working here as a driver.. as far as being close it depends on what you think is close. I live 155 mi from the DC. I drive a round trip every week and it doesnt bother me a bit

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you can start bidding within a year on jobs but I'm not positive. As far as the 5 5 schedule goes seems like nobody really wants it so probably wouldn't be hard to get .

    • @bubbles6883
      @bubbles6883 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@20plustrucking Just to clarify, could you start working with the 5/5 schedule or is that something that you have to wait for? I didn't understand your answer. Also, do you have an estimate on how much you'd make on the 5/5? Thank you sir.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bubbles6883 I think you have to wait a certain amount of time possibly a year before you can put in for your own schedule but as far as how much you can make on a 5 on 5 off depends on how much you want to work. If you only work the schedule itself then you won't make much probably only like $60,000 at best. But if you do like I do and work a bunch of your days off then you'll do well. I might make 90 this year if I keep up working a lot of my days off. Then when January and February come I'll probably back off and just work my regular schedule for a while.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as answering your question I just decided one year I was going to switch to that schedule and when the bid process started I just bid for it and got it. I have been working here for like 12 years before I decided to bid on that.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Collin Lutz actually that's the misconception everybody has about that schedule. I'll be making just a little bit over 100,000 this year on that schedule. The Way I look at it having this schedule means I can work all I want when I choose or just take my week off whatever I feel like it. I work on my days off pretty often throughout the year and Walmart has never refused me the work because we're always so busy and desperate for help. It's a lot harder if you have to share a truck because you'll be getting into a different truck on your days off all the time but if you have your own with no partner it makes it much easier. I know another guy on this schedule that also has his own truck and doesn't have a partner. The other thing that most people don't know is the way they do your ADP is drastically affected by working extra on this schedule. Because of all this working on my days off my ADP is $510. It only took like seven or eight weeks of working my days off to get from an ADP of 360 up to 510. The secret to that is you use your PTO days for your day off on the beginning and the end of your week so that there isn't a day you're not getting paid. Using the days is not an issue because remember I'm getting 5 days off every other 5 days if I choose to take them so I'm not worried about using them plus I have plenty to spare working all that time I'm gaining a lot of them quickly. Doing all that I just stated drastically changes what it means to be on a five on five off schedule and makes it to where I have the choice to do what I want to do either way. Working a five on two off schedule I have very little choice of anything other than just work all the time. Don't be afraid of the five on five off schedule it just takes a little bit of thought and planning and I believe it's actually one of the best schedules that Walmart offers if you can get it. Over the last 16 years I've done most of the schedules and without a doubt I like this one the best out of all of them. It's like having your cake and eating it too.
