    ----------------------
    Today was the day when I finally finished my winter project, a rebuild of a Tamiya DT-02 MS Sand Viper, and even got to run it … a little before I managed to smash it into a curb! Luckily both dampers where intact and I only have to invest in an affordable plastic parts tree. Looking forward running it off road for the first time, now that I know that everything works (apart from my driving abilities).
    This is part 5 of my Tamiya DT-02 MS Sand Viper Project. Basically a rescue mission, saving a Tamiya DT-02 MS Limited Edition 2007 (model 49475) from oblivion and bringing it back into action. You will find part 1-4 in my channel. More videos of the Tamiya DT-02 MS Sand Viper are sure to turn up in the future!
    The Tamiya DT-02 MS is a Tamiya DT-02 Sand Viper that came stock with hop-up parts and special decals from the TRF driver Satoshi Maezumi in 2007. Same thing has been done to the Tamiya DF-03 Dark Impact and the Tamiya TT-02B Dual RIdge.
    ----------------------
    For those interested in the parts and specifications:
    The Tamiya DT-02 MS #49475 comes stock with the following Tamiya Hop-Up Options:
    - Tamiya 3x42 mm Hard Turnbuckle Shafts Hop-Up Option (OP-942/#53942)
    - Tamiya 3x46 mm Hard Turnbuckle Shafts Hop-Up Option (OP-943/#53943)
    - Tamiya DF-02 Universal Shafts Hop-Up Option (OP-791/#53791)
    - Tamiya DF-03 Aluminum Damper Set (#53926) + white DT-02 MS springs
    - Tamiya Steering Tie-Rod from Hop-Up Option OP-828 (#53828)
    - Tamiya DT-02 Limited Slip Ball Differential Set (#53863)
    - Tamiya DT-02 Aluminum Motor Heat Sink and Mount (#53831)
    - Tamiya Rear Large Dish Wheels (#53881)
    - Full Ball Bearings
    Bascially a factory tuned/upgraded Tamiya DT-02 Sand Viper. It originally came without any tires and electronics.
    ----------------------
    In the rebuild I used the following optional parts and accessories:
    - Tamiya TBLM-02S 10,5T (3370 kV) Brushless Motor
    - Tamiya TBLE-01S Sensor Cable 16 cm
    - Tamiya TFU-01 (Cooling fan for Tamiya Standard ESCs)
    - Tamiya TBLE-02S (60A ESC for brushed/brushless motors)
    - Tamiya 17T Steel Pinion Hop-Up Option (OP-1628/#54628)
    - Tamiya DT-02 Aluminium Servo Mount (#OP-1397)
    - Tamiya Sand Viper Body & Wing
    - Tamiya Dual Block Tires K Hop-Up Option (OP-1186/#54186)
    - Tamiya DT-02/DT-03 Gear Bag (#9335432)
    - Tamiya Thread Shaft 3 x 50mm (#5310002)
    - GPM Racing DT-03 Aluminium Rear Wheel Hex Adapter (#DT3010R-S)
    - GPM Racing DT-03 Aluminium Front C-Hubs (#DT3019-B)
    - GPM Racing DT-03 Aluminium Rear Knuckle Arms (#DT3022-B)
    - Sanwa servo, receiver, transmitter
    -----------------------------------------------

    Ah, cool to come across one of your older videos, Mikael, what funky music you used to play back then, psychedelic, even, ha ha!
    And I think I used to work on that school where your clip is from, although only briefly, ha ha!
    I'm researching DT-02 stuff, this video was really useful. There is lots of good info about that platform on TH-cam and the internet.

    Great video! Love that car! I really like the the upgrades. Such a pity with the crash, but that stuff happens. My first rc in adult life, a dt-02 sand Rover rtr, my brother wanted to try it and ran it off a 3 meter cliff within 10 seconds of driving. Hopefully you can fix yours without too much expenses!

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      tjohanne Thank you very much! I am pleased with the end result. Now I just have to learn to drive ;-) Yeah it happens. Thankfully this did not go out of a cliff and thankfully the expensive dampers where intact. The whole front bulk head needs to be replaced. Plastic part, nothing expensive but as always with Tamiya one have to aquire a whole parts tree with other parts that probably never will break :-)

  • @GTMatukka
    @GTMatukka 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello Mikael! I think the reason why the C-hub brokes so easily on DT-03 is because the upper arm flexes too much from the outer side of the chassis and causes the C-hub break when taking a hit or it bends too much. Tie rods might fix this issue. I've tried to shimm the axles and hubs but no success.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh, yeah, too much flex could cause it. But the stock upper arms I still have on some of mine seems so solid, and mine break easily with those.

  • @Remoteaddicted
    @Remoteaddicted 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Awesome buddy! The Sand Viper looks sexy! Love the upgrades. I must say that I'm a lucky guy and never broke a part on my Tamiyas - and I bash the hell out of them. I guess the broken a arm mount will be a quick fix for you :)

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Remote Addicted Thanks! Yeah I break a Tamiya part on pretty much every second run :-) Usually it happens on tarmac and/or collisions with other models. Looking forward taking it out on dirt where it belongs. Yeah, quick fix, although I have to wait for a new part to arrive as I didn't have a spare of this one :-)

    In the words of my fathers people, acchhh sheise!!
    Those DT-02's are good buggies. I got one for one of my kids and we built it together. Recently I refurbished it, uprated shocks, whole bunch of new bits, new body, brushless system. It went really well, till I smacked it into the front of his brothers similarly refurbished DF-03.
    Broke the front shock tower. Eerily similar to your performance.
    All good fun though. My son found it hilarious.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He he, nice! Yeah, these are great, got two DT-02's and two DT-03's. Love them, although, as usual with Tamiya, some of the parts are a little weak and made out of hard brittle plastic. But quite affordable, so beautiful bodies and so much fun :-) Hope you got yours fixed again and your son is out running again :-)

      Yeah, the super glue was just a quick try "out-in-the-field" to get just a few minutes of more run time, now that it was it's first run. I was anxious to try it out :-) Didn't work of course :-) So not intended to be a permanent solution. Got it all fixed with new parts when home again :-)

    Hey, good video! Hope you repaired everything.... I recently upgraded my DT-02 Super Fighter GR to a Sand Viper (no video up to now ...): I used exactly the same colour scheme - thats funny :-) But I only reinforeced the damper stay because I regularly broke it by jumping in the woods - lets see how long it works now ....

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrZinzin2000 Had no spare part in the house, so waiting for it to arrive. Luckily I got another DT-02 to run meanwhile. Yeah, the blue Sand Viper is a great choice I think. Simple and perfect. Tamiya also like that colour. They just call it The Fighter Buggy SV :-) Yeah I hoped to keep the damper stay on the bulk head in one piece so I reinforced it too, only to see it break at the suspension mount. That piece of plastic is one big weak DT-02 spot :-)

    i have followed this whole rebuild, as i just bought the re re sand viper and was looking for some tuning tips...did you leave the toe set way in bound or did you straighten it before you test run? i have my toe set at neutral and it wants to push real hard on tarmac and other smooth surfaces.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      devilicous Thanks for following along! It's been a fun rebuild and the DT-02 runs great even if I do not control it great :-) A re re Sand Viper? I think the original Sand Vipers and Fighter Buggy SV's are the only ones and still stock many places. But Congrats anyway, it's an awesome looking buggy I think! The camera angle makes the toe-out look very extreme but yes, it could definitly need some less toe-out. I agree. But it did ok with this. Ran very straight until I ran it into a curb :-)

    looks great! man that bulkhead is weak I would have though tamiya would have made the A arm break before the bulk head? I think they may make a hop up aluminum one.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      shenlonco Yeah I was very surprised too. Have heard a lot of people breaking the towers of the bulk head but never the suspension mount. I guess every part of this bulk head is a weak spot lol. Much better designed on the DT-03. The arms and dampers would break before the mount and the tower. Yeah I've seen an aluminium bulk head too. It's probably out of production now but probably still stock sonewhere. If it breaks again I might consider it, but would prefer the plastic for the visual appearance though. Thanks for watching, Steve.

    • @ShenRC
      @ShenRC 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know what would have worked on this and all tamiya abs plastics if you did not use CA glue on it and used plastruct plastic weld it would have melted both sections right back together again good stuff =)

      This was just a dubious "field repair" cuz' I really wanted to try it out with a fresh LiPo before doing the walk of shame home ;-) I normally keep a little bottle of super glue in case a thread gets damaged or a tire/wheel needs some glue. I might try out that glue you mentioned here back home if I have something more vintage and irreplacable in the future. Seen other use it with great succes. Thanks for the tip, Steve.

      Hi Stephen. Yeah, normally I run a 2S LiPo with these. A fully charged NiMH is almost as fast as a 2S LiPo, but the LiPo has more 'punch' and keeps the voltage up better during the run.

      Nice! Green's gonna look great! You can also always search out eBay or some other places for cheap lexan buggy "runner-wings" that fits and just drill your own holes on the wing for the wing-mounts. A lof of people do that because the wing on a buggy always breaks easily if you jump it or run it on tarmac.

      Yes, I know. Got the GPM parts for it already. Maybe I'll do a video with it some day. But so far I've not found a use for them. And the GPM ball raced hex adaptors actually do not fit all 1/10 2WD front hex wheel systems. But they definitely allow you to mount a lot of standard 4WD sets, though I am not sure why one would opt for that unless it's one of the DTs with truck or classic buggy bodies (aqroshot, nissan, street rover etc.).

      Well, as a Tamiya enthusiast I really like the Tamiya entry-level buggies. For many a years they where the perfect entry-level choice. Nowadays though I think there are a lot of other options available, especially with the Chinese models getting better and better for each year. But the good thing about Traxxas, Tamiya etc. is that spare parts and hop-up options are available world wide, and more often than not, for many many years. If I should buy a 1/10 entry level buggy for my son, I would get him a TT-02B (if 4WD) or a DT-030 (2WD). But that's me, a Tamiya enthusiast :-)
