Tamiya DT 02 Upgrade Guide and how to make a Blitzer Beetle lookie likie. Brushless DT-02 Chassis

  • Hi all
Thought it would be worth running through the bits and bobs I've done to this DT-02 chassis to make it less breakable and also to look like a Blitzer Beetle.
You have to be a bit of a Tamiya fan to do this sort of thing because it's probably quite a bit of cash by the time you've done all this and if you just want an RC car to bash then you can probably find better value. If you are a Tamiya fan though and you want the looks of a Blitzer Beetle but without such worry of breakage then this could be for you!
As ever, many thanks for watching.

Hiya Carmine. Ok I'll have a look at your video after work later. My idea for the Blitzer was to use an entirely different chassis as you can see. The original chassis is ok if you leave it brushed I think. Thanks for watching (again) 😁

@@PeteWylieRC It stay Brushed.... but I modified the Gearbox to accept a 17t Pinion, instead of stock 13!!
I'm fitting those Alumininium Hexes to the Rear Axles, and TRYING to figure out a way to reinforce those Rear Arm pivots... That's going to take some thinking 🤔 🤪😬

Oh yeah even if you just got the lexan beetle shell it would be a good alternative to the Holiday Buggy body. I really like the Holiday Buggy but the body is rather breakable in terms of the window pillars and roof lights. The Beetle shell survives better in a roll over. Many thanks for watching 😀

Glad I saw this before I started building my Blitzer!!
I've got Aluminuminum Wheel Hexes, and was planning on the Mark Bryan front stay fix...
    However, I thought this WAS a DT-02 Chassis!! 😵😳
I'll need to get some spare Arms. And that Nissan Titan front Body Post mod is BRILLIANT!!

Hiya Carmine. Yeah the actual Blitzer chassis is from before the DT-02. It is a fun chassis but just a bit easy to break if you make it fast. The DT-02 does seem to be more robust as I say in the video. The proper hard shell blitzer body shell does look better than the lexan one I have. Cheers for watching my friend 😁

Well..... Unless I'm allowed to make another Kamtec order to the U.S., I'm living with the Hardbody.
On me old Clodbuster, I cut Vinyl Strips from a piece of Automotive Side Impact Moulding (Door Strips). VERY effective in preventing Body damage!! I may have to try that!

I did very much enjoy your latest vid a bit earlier and I will watch again in a bit and leave a comment. Anyway, yes I try to cut the video down to the bits where I'm saying something sort of useful. It's a good little car this and has been run to death in various formats. Putting a beetle shell on a DT-02 was something I'd wanted to do for a long while. Hopefully some better weather soon and maybe even some sort of freedom. Meanwhile, back to the hobby room rave party for 1! Cheers for now matey 😁

Very cool, Pete. Thank you for the overview, explanation and all the part numbers. Excellent. Might use it some time. Uhh, what always baffles me when people recommend essential upgrades for durability for the DT-02/03 is no one mentions the C-hubs. That’s pretty much what I always brake with mine. I swear, I had some of them break just by looking at them 🙃But everybody else’s seem to hold up fine. It’s just mine it seems. How strange. Uhh. And yeah, never broke anything on my old 4 Blitzers/Thunder. But I was running the silver cans, so that’s probably why as you mentioned 😂😅

      @PeteWylieRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hiya Mikael. Oh yes C hubs were another thing that broke on the Blitzer for sure. I've probably broken them on the DT-02 and DT-03 too come to think of it but not often. Anyway a good little RC that has been run to death in various forms. You have reminded me that I was half way through your latest nerdy RC chat video before dinner so I need to watch the rest tomorrow. Was interesting as far as I got and not a chassis that I have owned. Hoping for a bit more outdoor RC action soon. Been a long winter of restrictions and rubbish weather. Best wishes for now mate. I picked up a new Titan via eBay and incorporated your suggestions, alloy hexes, Wild Willy uprights, self made front brace etc. I'm just about to paint the Lexan Beetle shell. Just wondered if you had found a solution yet for a rear bumper or wheelie bar? Apparently a Lunchbox wheelie bar can be persuaded to fit but thought I would mention there is a Chinese seller on eBay selling DT02 alloy rear bumpers for £15 posted. hi, Pete. how is the DT-02 Nissan Titan in stock in terms of ground clearance? i do own the holiday buggy and the ground clearance comes a bit short for slightly tall grass. with blitzer beetle tires, my DT03T and blitzer beetles are running great on grass. i was wondering of getting the Nissan titan DT02 but i am not sure whether it is good for grass with the original tires and wheels.

Hi there. I haven't still got it in stock form to measure but it's higher at the front than the Holiday Buggy because they use the longer rod ends on the front shocks. I actually didn't like that and lowered it down for better cornering. The stock tyres on the Nissan Titan aren't very grippy. The Holiday Buggy ones are better on grass. Hi there and thanks for coming back! Are you meaning you want to mount the body without body post holes? On the Sand Scorcher the rear of the body clips on to the roll bar so you could maybe rig something up like that? Not sure about the front. I know that the crawler guys have magnetic mounts for the bodies so you can't see them but be no good for a basher. I haven't tried looking for parts recently so not sure. The hop up parts tend to be from Hong Kong via eBay. I've got a steel 19t pinion in mine which runs great. I've got a wheelie bar now which is basically a bit of alu with a bend in attached to the bottom of the chassis with the gearbox screws. The front edge is bevelled to stop it catching the ground. It's a shame that TH-cam doesn't let you post photos! Good luck with your build 😁👍

update - this one briefly sort of shows the wheelie bar although not in detail as I was only doing a run through of my RC's. It's at about 4:30 th-cam.com/video/82K6jXJVUX0/w-d-xo.html
