    This is part 4 of my Tamiya DT-02 MS Sand Viper project. Basically a rescue mission, saving a Tamiya DT-02 MS Limited Edition 2007 (model 49475) from oblivion and bringing it back into action. You will find part 1-3 in my channel. Final tuning video and first test run coming up in the near future.
    The Tamiya DT-02 MS is a Tamiya DT-02 Sand Viper that came stock with hop-up parts and special decals from the TRF driver Satoshi Maezumi in 2007. Same thing has been done to the Tamiya DF-03 Dark Impact and the Tamiya TT-02B Dual RIdge.
    For those interested in the parts and specifications:
    The Tamiya DT-02 MS #49475 comes stock with the following Tamiya Hop-Up Options:
    - Tamiya 3x42 mm Hard Turnbuckle Shafts Hop-Up Option (OP-942/#53942)
    - Tamiya 3x46 mm Hard Turnbuckle Shafts Hop-Up Option (OP-943/#53943)
    - Tamiya DF-02 Universal Shafts Hop-Up Option (OP-791/#53791)
    - Tamiya DF-03 Aluminum Damper Set (#53926) + white DT-02 MS springs
    - Tamiya Steering Tie-Rod from Hop-Up Option OP-828 (#53828)
    - Tamiya DT-02 Limited Slip Ball Differential Set (#53863)
    - Tamiya DT-02 Aluminum Motor Heat Sink and Mount (#53831)
    - Tamiya Rear Large Dish Wheels (#53881)
    - Full Ball Bearings
    Basicially a factory tuned/upgraded Tamiya DT-02 Sand Viper. It originally came without any tires and electronics.
    In the rebuild I used the following new electronics and accessories:
    - Tamiya TBLM-02S 10,5T (3370 kV) Brushless Motor
    - Tamiya TBLE-01S Sensor Cable 16 cm
    - Tamiya TFU-01 (Cooling fan for Tamiya Standard ESCs)
    - Tamiya TBLE-02S (60A ESC for brushed/brushless motors)
    - Tamiya 17T Steel Pinion Hop-Up Option (OP-1628/#54628)
    - Sanwa servo, receiver, transmitter
    And the following new parts:
    - Tamiya Sand Viper Body & Wing
    - Tamiya Dual Block Tires K Hop-Up Option (OP-1186/#54186)
    - Carson All Terrain Tire Sets
    - GPM Racing DT-03 Aluminium Rear Wheel Hex Adapter (#DT3010R-S)
    I chose the smaller 17T pinion size as I do not have any experience with the TBLM-02S motor so I'm not sure how hot it gets in a DT-02. Better safe than sorry until I find out. Tamiya recommends a gear ratio of 9.1 or more for 2WD off road models. With a standard 17T Pinion and a 55T Spur/Main Gear: 3.2 (55 main/17 pinion) x 2.87 (DT-02 Internal Gear Ratio) = 9.28 Gear Ratio. A 19T pinion would give a gear ratio of 8.31 (below the recommended 9.1) ...
    I still have some parts that needs to be changed for the better. And I still have to test run the ball differential and the universal axles before I decide whether to keep them in this set-up. They're giving me a bit of trouble.

      Thank you very much and thanks for watching and commenting! Nice, another fellow DT-02 enthusiast :-) Yeah, it looks great in blue, just like the Fighter Buggy SV (basically a blue Sand Viper). Hope the rebuild is going great. Finished my rebuild, broke it on it's maiden run, repaired it and the second run coming up next week :-)

    Nice work ! Looks great and should run really well too as even the basic DT-02 has pretty decent handling. Look forward to seeing it out for a bash :-)

      Yeah, it's a fun little buggy! Not really a race buggy, but great fun and enough capabilities for my driver capabilities. And fun and easy to work on. Have had a lot of fun with my DT-02s and DT-03s. Looking forward running this one in this season! Thanks for watching Pete.

    Super video - I love that car!!! Have a sand viper and get a kick out of the oversteer - difficult to control but great fun. I have modified mine with a metal plat to reinforce the front shock towers and (touch wood) it has worked well and saved many breakages! Maybe you could do a more refined reinforcing bracket?

      @NordicRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Bryan RC Yeah I’m looking forward checking out your vids with your DT-02s. Looks like you got more than one. Got a Desert Gator too. Love them. This one understeers a lot on tarmac though and oversteers a lot on dirt. I use a threaded shaft to strengthen the front tower. It does the trick so far, but funny you mention it, I got a new project coming up tomorrow. Just wanted to try some of the aluminium/graphite parts from 3Racing. More for the fun of it and the looks than anything else :-)

      Cool - will look out for that video - yeah, my son and I have 3 DT02's and an extra body shell just in case (eBay bargain!!) that is now in AlItallia colours - love that old beautiful Lancia Stratos style!

    Great project i'm planning to use the same motor in my Plasma Edge (DF-02) and I would like to know how you found out the internal gear ration.
    Just for reference I use a 67 main/21 pinion right now.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Hawker Plays! It's a cool motor. So far I've had no problems with it. A bit too over powered for a DT-02 I think though. Maybe I will try it out too in my 4WD's, DF-02, TT-02B, DF-03 etc. It might fit better with a bit heavier cars and drive lines. I'm currently experimenting with motors and spurs and pinions too on my DF-02 (again again ... I'm never getting tired of that buggy). I think I remember I got lucky with the internal gear ratio of the DT-02 and found it online somewhere. Usually Tamiya isn't very generous with that info, which is a shame.

    Great job! You can also try Traxxas bandit anaconda rear tires. I tried some brands, and anaconda have great balance with my desert gator. :)

      Thank you and thanks for the tip! I really like the Tamiya Dual Block tires so I'll do some running with those off road and just wear out the Carsons on tarmac. But when I'm done I might look into those anacondas. Thanks for watching!

    nice buggy btw. what shock oil were you using and do you think that buggy would do well at a track or just for bashing ?

    Does the TBLE 02S overheat with the brushless motor?

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not in this set-up. The gear ratio is as Tamiya recommends and I’ve only run this small DT-02 on more or less flat surfaces. Both motor and ESC doesn’t get hot. But with another gear ratio on a 4WD and rough off road runs it might be another story.

  • @bigbob3409
    @bigbob3409 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    how many turn motor did you use ?

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Johnson Hi Bill! I used a 10.5T (Tamiya TBLM-02S) brushless motor (around 3500 kv) with a 17T pinion gear. It is quite uncontrollable on tarmac and loose dirt - because it will lift the short and light DT-02's nose (and front wheels = steering) creating a lot of both understeer (on high grip asphalt) or a lot of oversteer (on loose dirt etc.). Check out my test runs with it in my channel.

    great work but there is an awful lot of new parts there. There is not a lot left of the original truck so is it a restoration or an expensive way of buying a kit? I guess it does not really matter as the aim of the hobby is to have fun and it looks very much like you did exactly that.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha ha, yeah, you nailed it. I got carried away and I believe you are right, this turned out to be more of a fun project than a restoration. In later videos it went really crazy, so now it has carbon towers etc etc. But since I really like the TRF dampers (that the MS edition comes with) and they are really expensive from new, a second hand MS edition was a great way to start. But yes, I get carried away. I also have my stock DT-02 Desert Gator, in parts, that is waiting for a real restoration (without all the unnessacary alloy) :-)

    Wait soooo dt02 or dt03???
    Me
    Dt02 looks nicer doesn't seem to have much problems to me anyways I like to do those
    Dt03 seems more aerodynamic looks funny to me I've heard it performs a lot better
    I just can't decide

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the looks of both :-) Very different. At least in looks. They share the same transmission and suspension, so the difference lies in the chassis and the towers. The DT-03 has a monocoque chassis, a wider wheel base and more durable shock towers, compared to the DT-02. Should have better balance (so they say). IMO the DT-03 just feels better running :-)
