The whole fight was a breakdown of Zaraki. That's what I gathered from it. Tite literally killed him over an over again Unohana i think was in bankai. I think it wears opponents down but keeps them alive or she changes its affect heals when she wants but hurts when she wants. Cause the had to heal using what she learned. Maybe her bankai can't heal her as a trade off.

I think her Bankai melts away everything. Including her. But she is the best healer and heals zaraki and herself at extreme rate. In the end she doesn't want to heal because her purpose was to train and pass the legacy of the kenpachi.thats why she died
I'm assuming the overall theme of Minazuki was acid, since it was never really specified. Her Shikai used Minazuki's stomach acid to heal people, while her Bankai seemingly used some sort of blood with acidic properties to melt everyone in a given area. I also really like how Unohana's Zanpakutou perfectly represents the two sides of her character: the Shikai's healing ability represents her outward appearance of a caring and motherly figure, while the Bankai's (which, if I recall correctly, was referred to as the "true form" of any Zanpakutou) ridiculous offensive power represents her true nature as a bloodthirsty fighter. My issue with Tekking's interpretation is that we see them with skin again in that same fight. If it was just figurative, they wouldn't have returned to normal only to have it happen again and again. She even "kills" Kenpachi over and over during the fight. So if we're looking at her Bankai, why wouldn't it heal and destory? Those are literally the things she loves. She learned to heal just so she could fight more. So why wouldn't her Bankai heal and kill? And being able to do it again and again? That's what she wants the most in the world.

The power to kill demonstrating her bloodthirsty nature and the power to heal not only representing the face she shows to the world but also embodying the true desire of any who fight for the sake of fighting, the desire for the fight to continue forever. Those who battle for love of carnage and pain, death and excitement desire the greatest of battles to satisfy them and what is better then a battle against a worthy foe who simply will not fall? Her sword allows her to create that opponent for herself in order to satisfy her darker desires.

She and her foe kill one another without end until she finally wishes for it to stop, which even explains why she died after the battle. I was really hoping Kubo would make a new manga series featuring the Gotei 13 with the Arrancar and maybe the surviving Sternritter with Ichigo and the gang, popping up sometimes. And in the series, maybe seeing the Soul Society back in the dark days that we got to see a little of. And maybe seeing the Zanpakutou arc from the fillers, but done better. Come on Kubo!!! Going from the 4 year old video about Unohana's bankai with a younger edgier tekking to this video with the older peppier more wholesome tekking is a wild ride.
Maybe her bankai is just all the blood from those healed in minazukis belly and the amount of damage she can do in bankai is equal to the amount of blood her sword has tasted which is why it is oozing blood. She truly is the master of life and death. Healing and killing with ease.

I wouldve loved to see unahona just stomp on some Quincy. I also think that her shikai had changed a bit from when she was the kenpachi. Yhwach said yamamotos bankai was a bit different than 1000 years ago, so they can change as the user changes. I think unahona changed her focus much more to healing so the shikai reflected that, but her bankai was still about killing since thats her real joy. Maybe the beast she makes would actually eat and kill people before, and her bankai is making the surrounding area into its stomach like jiraiya did

I am still certain Aizen's Bankai is the manipulation of senses beyond the normal five. He showed it when he manipulated Juha. Also, Zaraki is the only person Yamamoto ever expressed concern over being able to beat. This is the same Yamamoto that looked at God Aizen and Jesus Ywach without concern. The overall theme was to purify things. By any means needed. Through healing. Or through purging. Her banaki destroys everything in its area reiatsu including. She is the one who heals them not her bankai. It kills everything even her. That why the command is *purge/end all things*. Edit the royal guard taught her to heal, so her bankai wouldnt destroy her, she heals faster than it can kill, and only she can do that even so much as healing from a complete skeleton and restoring a soul even to its original place. To lose her to gain zaraki was a terrible trade theres a reason the royal guard feared her and like senjumaru said, motherly she isnt, but she will give birth to the end of all.
Such a wasted character! smh. I'll never forget when both Aizen and Gin didn't attack her and that's when I knew she was one of the most powerful characters in the series. So disappointing she never got developed or a solid back story.
Kenpachi Zaraki, the Kenpachi (strongest warrior) from Zaraki. The character in question does not have a name, but rather a title that became his name. Otherwise, he has no name (as he lamented about in the manga). Kenpachis can come from anywhere. Kenpachi Zaraki's Zanpakuto is VERY unique. Nozarashi could manifest a human form (as his Leutenant) that's visible to all soul beings. It was always a great morale support. However, it chose to do the most power bonding with Kenpachi through the sword itself. The more Kenpachi removed his limiters, the more he could finally hear it's voice. Then, when he came to the edge of his power, Nozarashi revealed itself entirely through the human form and brought him into the Bankai form. How fitting. His Zanpakuto was his best friend all along; helping him in the worst moments and in the best ways for Kenpachi. No interference, no competition, no judgment, no distraction, just support.
First, I just want to say Thank you Tekking for this video. Unohana was one of my favorite captains and Minazuki was one of my favorite Zanpakuto. I did want to point out though that both her and Zaraki's swords in sealed form are long swords rather than katanas like everyone elses. Also when she goes into bankai I think the sword shrinks to a katana because it uses all of its power for the bankai.
When he will talking about Aizen's Zanpakuto I hope he mention my theory* that his bankai can manipulate reality and illusions become real. *at least I hope so, in the end I sent it to him during contest for the first Gotei 13th.

As for Kenpachi, his pure battle prowess was worthy enough to be considered a threat by Ywach, even tho he got obliterated by a doppleganger, but don't bring that into this argument because while he got destroyed, he effortlessly took down 3 Sternritter while all captains were having trouble, Shunsui included. And if you still don't believe that, in the light novels, there's this new threat who was so powerful that was probably at the level of Ywach (don't source me on this, I don't know the full details) and gave all these extremely powerful characters a lot of trouble, excluding Kenpachi, who took a hit from the guy and basically chuckled. Main point is, Kenpachi is arguably the strongest Shinigami. In terms of pure destructive power and reiatsu. I won't include Zero Squad because their whole existence were a let down.
it's pretty interesting too when you realize the kanji on her back, the 4th division means death in chinese although it's a division dedicated to healing.
Man imagine how messed up it must be to fight Unohana, you battle it out with her and if you end up losing she just uses her shikai to eat you to heal you up so she can cut you up all over again. And if its a really good fight she can use her Bankai to basically lock you in an eternal battle. Gives new meaning till death do us part am i right?
I'm pretty sure that while she took plessure from fighting Zaraki, the reason she revived him over and over again was that she had decided he should be the one to survive and kept bringing him back until he removed all his mental locks. Her last words also pretty much confirm that she had some sort of attachment to him, be it platonic or otherwise.
The way i took it was that it turns her blade/covers it in "splashing acid," so that whenever they clashed swords or she swung it at all it would spew crazy amounts of acid that would literally melt the flesh from anything it touches, including herself. Which is why they were both bone because she had her flesh melted off too, because each time she would hit their sword or wherever, she would splash it on herself. The whole point of her even becoming a healing kidou user was purely so she wouldn't die using her own Bankai. Her bankai was so deadly to others, and herself that she needed to develop such extreme levels of kidou, just to keep herself alive, and let her use bankai at all without serious damage. This became why she was the head of the medical division, just kidou learned in order for her to fight all out. obviously she healed kenpachi and herself while they were training though so he wouldn't die, and they could both fight.
My guess is that her being cpt. of squad 4 and her bankai & shikai are very related.All of this , to me , screams "I am the beginning and the end , I rule over life and death".
My take on Unohana's bankai is that it's inherent theme is the natural progression of the body. Her shikai accelerates the natural rate of healing of the body, as I'm sure the stomach acid of Minazuki helps ((promote)) healing rather than actually heal itself since if the latter was the case it shouldn't take hours to repair people, seeing as how Kaito, which is unnatural, can heal Unohana's hand near instantly. Her bankai, however, I think deals with the natural rate of decomposition of the body Now I have two theories as to how it accomplishes this. Either A) by GREATLY accelerating the body's natural functions to the point that cells reach their natural point of death or B) instead of instructing cells to regenerate so fast that they start to die, the blood instructs cells to simply stop regenerating and start dying. Theory B is a little less likely, as imo that would mean the shikai encourages the natural functions of the body while the bankai halts them, but since it would still fit into the theme of manipulating said functions it's still plausible.
Her Bankai is believed to reverse whatever healing is done to a target. Like think of all the healing the Shikai does when someone is inside Minazuki’s stomach. The Bankai takes back what the healing.

Unohana wanted to die by Zaraki Kenpachi’s hands that’s what I got from the chapter. She admired him and loved him in a way, like all Kenpachi’s they have a thirst for blood and enjoy it. She also stated that he was far stronger than her when they first clashed that even back then he had restrained himself to enjoy that fight. That’s probably been in her mind since then that’s why she is so comfortable with death from someone who brought her joy. And since there can only be one Kenpachi per era it’s like she needed to help him find himself again she enjoyed it the first time and wanted to die by his hands and no one else’s. But yeah she knew he could carry the name kenpachi since they first met. Zaraki is a monster, he admired, feared and respected Unohana, she was the first one to give him pleasure during a fight, they loved their first encounter. But the reason for her death is because she wants Zaraki to realise his power, that’s all she wanted to unleash the power he once held against her. she’s the original Kenpachi who was and will always be the most diabolical criminal to exist in the soul society which was stated. And also as she said the blade of someone who is worthy either kills the Kenpachi before them and claim the name of Kenpachi, or the one who holds it nurtures them, raises them like she did, she lifted all the holds on him, to fully realise his power and to go on even further and surpass her. It’s like a sad love story
The main "Theme" I can see with Unohana's Zanpakuto is the balance of Life and Death. Her shiikai consumes death to bring about life, a simplistic way to explain the nature of reincarnation, but her Shiikai shows a practical method of how this happens through the use of a living body, while her Bankai shows Death consuming Life. Her fight with Zaraki shows the two becoming Avatars of Death in the fight, but it only ends when one claims the life of the other. Now why Unohana dies in that fight can come down to two logical reasonings. The first is she submitted her life by accepting she was the lesser of the two. The second reason could be unnoticed effects of Zaraki's Zanpakuto that (while not spelled out this way is shown in another vid) effectively makes him an embodyment of Asura, "the great destroyer", and was able to overpower what healing she could bring at that moment as there would have been no escape from that strike without turning it into a lethal blow anyway.
@@ZaneWulf Thank you, I have had to think long and hard about that balance for many years, because of my own writing projects and a few characters involved that play into the concepts I brought up, including how they all interact as a conceptual force of nature. It honestly kills me how many people don't take a deep dive into how opposing forces overlap in a balance, Like how fire and water can be used in a magic system to make steam or ice even if one side favors one more then the other for natural use. Honestly the Avatar shows play into the deeper though a little bit, but leave it mostly at a surface level with the reasonable excuse that most people aren't thinking that deep about bending to realize Water and Fire benders could in a way mimic an Air benders ability to fly with only a glider, yes it is easier for the Air benders to pull of as they are working directly with the air, but how hard would it be for a fire bender to use the heat of some flames to create the updrafts needed, or for a water bender to create steam from a body of water to get the same results. In the end the biggest thing to remember of such balancing acts is stated in physics "Equal and Opposite reactions".
Looking forward to the Kenpachi and Hitsugaya vid. Kubo's retconing of those Bankai kinda had me confused towards the end of the series Like always, should have just waited till the end of the video. . .
Honestly I always looked at her banki having to ability to keep people alive from pretty much any injuries they get while fighting her so she could enjoy the fight more. Kind of like an inverse oh what kenpachi did rather then holding herself back she made other stand at her level.
I thought the reason Unohana learned healing wasn't so she could heal herself to last longer in a fight, but so she could heal her opponents and make _them_ last longer.
His sword has the ability to restructure itself for different functions (ex. shield, blast, binding, ect.) His Bankai has the ability to restructure other things for different functions (ex. Kisuke's arm changed for greater strength).

I already gave my thoughts on her sword during the last video with Gin, so instead before I even watch this I will say that I am one of the few people who liked her battle with Zaraki and how she went out. It made sense and both of them covered a character arc in a single fight. The real problem is that she barely did anything before then so people felt she was wasted. She should have gotten a major fight in Arrancar arc against Yammy. He was supposed to be the strongest Espada so to live up to that title he should have defeated Byakuya and Zaraki. I would have given him a 3rd form (Vasto Lorde looking) after they beat his 2nd one and have Unohana fight that. Her beating him without Ban Kai would be mad hype and set her up for later
That is scary, he really should keep that side of him in check. My experience with those who have dark alter-egos compels me to give this warning, always keep an eye on the alter-ego. You never know what might happen.
i think her bankai heals people like the shikai but it's abilities are like the zero squads hot spring, it heals so fast all of the old flesh melts away to be replaced by the new healed flesh. also notice how it doesn't affect anything inorganic

Going from the 4 year old video about Unohana's bankai with a younger edgier tekking to this video with the older peppier more wholesome tekking is a wild ride.
Maybe her bankai is just all the blood from those healed in minazukis belly and the amount of damage she can do in bankai is equal to the amount of blood her sword has tasted which is why it is oozing blood. She truly is the master of life and death. Healing and killing with ease.

I also think that her shikai had changed a bit from when she was the kenpachi. Yhwach said yamamotos bankai was a bit different than 1000 years ago, so they can change as the user changes. I think unahona changed her focus much more to healing so the shikai reflected that, but her bankai was still about killing since thats her real joy. Maybe the beast she makes would actually eat and kill people before, and her bankai is making the surrounding area into its stomach like jiraiya did

I want a Urahara one. There's a theory that Benihime in Shikai is actually the Crimson energy and Benihime herself reconstructing herself while the bankai reconstructs others.

@@oscard.9705 well the sword in Shikai is just a different looking sword. the red energy Urahara blast out when he says Sing Benihime is actually the shikai. the blood mist shield is Benihime. the sword is just a tool. the net net that grows spheres that explode are Benihime. she reconstructs herself into different things that Urahara needs whether it's a blast of energy, a shield, a shield that shoots energy bullets, or a net that blast the enemy into flames. the bankai operates in Reverse. instead of reconstructing her it does things around her. such as objects, the opponents, and Urahara himself. it's the only way to connect the Shikai and Bankai really.

I am still certain Aizen's Bankai is the manipulation of senses beyond the normal five. He showed it when he manipulated Juha.
Also, Zaraki is the only person Yamamoto ever expressed concern over being able to beat. This is the same Yamamoto that looked at God Aizen and Jesus Ywach without concern. That should say something about how fucking badass Zaraki is.
Once Kenpachi floored the entire dojo just by using a two-handed attack ONCE, Yamamoto knew he needed to put a hard cap on Zaraki's power.

The overall theme was to purify things. By any means needed. Through healing. Or through purging. Her banaki destroys everything in its area reiatsu including. She is the one who heals them not her bankai. It kills everything even her. That why the command is *purge/end all things*. Edit the royal guard taught her to heal, so her bankai wouldnt destroy her, she heals faster than it can kill, and only she can do that even so much as healing from a complete skeleton and restoring a soul even to its original place. To lose her to gain zaraki was a terrible trade theres a reason the royal guard feared her and like senjumaru said, motherly she isnt, but she will give birth to the end of all.

Kenpachi Zaraki, the Kenpachi (strongest warrior) from Zaraki. The character in question does not have a name, but rather a title that became his name. Otherwise, he has no name (as he lamented about in the manga). Kenpachis can come from anywhere.
Kenpachi Zaraki's Zanpakuto is VERY unique. Nozarashi could manifest a human form (as his Leutenant) that's visible to all soul beings. It was always a great morale support. However, it chose to do the most power bonding with Kenpachi through the sword itself. The more Kenpachi removed his limiters, the more he could finally hear it's voice. Then, when he came to the edge of his power, Nozarashi revealed itself entirely through the human form and brought him into the Bankai form. How fitting. His Zanpakuto was his best friend all along; helping him in the worst moments and in the best ways for Kenpachi. No interference, no competition, no judgment, no distraction, just support.
Tekking was prepared 11 months early
First, I just want to say Thank you Tekking for this video. Unohana was one of my favorite captains and Minazuki was one of my favorite Zanpakuto. I did want to point out though that both her and Zaraki's swords in sealed form are long swords rather than katanas like everyone elses. Also when she goes into bankai I think the sword shrinks to a katana because it uses all of its power for the bankai.

Who says Kenpachi always fights weaker opponents than the opponents Shunsui fights? Yea sure, Starrk was stronger than Nnoitra, I'll give you that. But it doesn't mean Kenpachi would've have gotten wrecked by him, on the contrary, he fought Yammy who in terms on pure raw power and reaitsu was the strongest Espada at the time. Granted, Byakuya was helping him, but look at the fight, ya think he needed the help? When he fought Grammy, Grammy was indeed the strongest Sternritter or the most dangerous one, whichever you wanna go with, not counting the Elite Guard. Then with Gerard Valkyrie, he completely destroyed the big ass bastard with his Bankai until his body gave up on him. Gerard was definitely not weaker than Lille, I put them in the same level tbh.
For Unohana, her Kaido can basically speak for herself. If Lille survived Shunsui's final Act, so can Unohana. Just simply doing what you did won't do anything.
My point is that Unohana and Zaraki are not weaker than Shunsui. I ain't writing Shunsui off or anything, he's one of my favorite Captains and all, but Unohana retired herself from fighting, mostly as a healer and if she goes Kenpachi, she is a force to be reckoned with.
As for Kenpachi, his pure battle prowess was worthy enough to be considered a threat by Ywach, even tho he got obliterated by a doppleganger, but don't bring that into this argument because while he got destroyed, he effortlessly took down 3 Sternritter while all captains were having trouble, Shunsui included. And if you still don't believe that, in the light novels, there's this new threat who was so powerful that was probably at the level of Ywach (don't source me on this, I don't know the full details) and gave all these extremely powerful characters a lot of trouble, excluding Kenpachi, who took a hit from the guy and basically chuckled.
Main point is, Kenpachi is arguably the strongest Shinigami. In terms of pure destructive power and reiatsu. I won't include Zero Squad because their whole existence were a let down.

it's pretty interesting too when you realize the kanji on her back, the 4th division means death in chinese although it's a division dedicated to healing.
Man imagine how messed up it must be to fight Unohana, you battle it out with her and if you end up losing she just uses her shikai to eat you to heal you up so she can cut you up all over again. And if its a really good fight she can use her Bankai to basically lock you in an eternal battle. Gives new meaning till death do us part am i right?
I'm pretty sure that while she took plessure from fighting Zaraki, the reason she revived him over and over again was that she had decided he should be the one to survive and kept bringing him back until he removed all his mental locks. Her last words also pretty much confirm that she had some sort of attachment to him, be it platonic or otherwise.
The way i took it was that it turns her blade/covers it in "splashing acid," so that whenever they clashed swords or she swung it at all it would spew crazy amounts of acid that would literally melt the flesh from anything it touches, including herself. Which is why they were both bone because she had her flesh melted off too, because each time she would hit their sword or wherever, she would splash it on herself.
The whole point of her even becoming a healing kidou user was purely so she wouldn't die using her own Bankai. Her bankai was so deadly to others, and herself that she needed to develop such extreme levels of kidou, just to keep herself alive, and let her use bankai at all without serious damage. This became why she was the head of the medical division, just kidou learned in order for her to fight all out. obviously she healed kenpachi and herself while they were training though so he wouldn't die, and they could both fight.

My take on Unohana's bankai is that it's inherent theme is the natural progression of the body. Her shikai accelerates the natural rate of healing of the body, as I'm sure the stomach acid of Minazuki helps ((promote)) healing rather than actually heal itself since if the latter was the case it shouldn't take hours to repair people, seeing as how Kaito, which is unnatural, can heal Unohana's hand near instantly. Her bankai, however, I think deals with the natural rate of decomposition of the body
Now I have two theories as to how it accomplishes this. Either A) by GREATLY accelerating the body's natural functions to the point that cells reach their natural point of death or B) instead of instructing cells to regenerate so fast that they start to die, the blood instructs cells to simply stop regenerating and start dying. Theory B is a little less likely, as imo that would mean the shikai encourages the natural functions of the body while the bankai halts them, but since it would still fit into the theme of manipulating said functions it's still plausible.

Her Bankai is believed to reverse whatever healing is done to a target. Like think of all the healing the Shikai does when someone is inside Minazuki’s stomach. The Bankai takes back what the healing.

Unohana wanted to die by Zaraki Kenpachi’s hands that’s what I got from the chapter. She admired him and loved him in a way, like all Kenpachi’s they have a thirst for blood and enjoy it. She also stated that he was far stronger than her when they first clashed that even back then he had restrained himself to enjoy that fight. That’s probably been in her mind since then that’s why she is so comfortable with death from someone who brought her joy. And since there can only be one Kenpachi per era it’s like she needed to help him find himself again she enjoyed it the first time and wanted to die by his hands and no one else’s. But yeah she knew he could carry the name kenpachi since they first met. Zaraki is a monster, he admired, feared and respected Unohana, she was the first one to give him pleasure during a fight, they loved their first encounter. But the reason for her death is because she wants Zaraki to realise his power, that’s all she wanted to unleash the power he once held against her. she’s the original Kenpachi who was and will always be the most diabolical criminal to exist in the soul society which was stated. And also as she said the blade of someone who is worthy either kills the Kenpachi before them and claim the name of Kenpachi, or the one who holds it nurtures them, raises them like she did, she lifted all the holds on him, to fully realise his power and to go on even further and surpass her. It’s like a sad love story

The main "Theme" I can see with Unohana's Zanpakuto is the balance of Life and Death. Her shiikai consumes death to bring about life, a simplistic way to explain the nature of reincarnation, but her Shiikai shows a practical method of how this happens through the use of a living body, while her Bankai shows Death consuming Life. Her fight with Zaraki shows the two becoming Avatars of Death in the fight, but it only ends when one claims the life of the other. Now why Unohana dies in that fight can come down to two logical reasonings. The first is she submitted her life by accepting she was the lesser of the two. The second reason could be unnoticed effects of Zaraki's Zanpakuto that (while not spelled out this way is shown in another vid) effectively makes him an embodyment of Asura, "the great destroyer", and was able to overpower what healing she could bring at that moment as there would have been no escape from that strike without turning it into a lethal blow anyway.

@@ZaneWulf Thank you, I have had to think long and hard about that balance for many years, because of my own writing projects and a few characters involved that play into the concepts I brought up, including how they all interact as a conceptual force of nature. It honestly kills me how many people don't take a deep dive into how opposing forces overlap in a balance, Like how fire and water can be used in a magic system to make steam or ice even if one side favors one more then the other for natural use. Honestly the Avatar shows play into the deeper though a little bit, but leave it mostly at a surface level with the reasonable excuse that most people aren't thinking that deep about bending to realize Water and Fire benders could in a way mimic an Air benders ability to fly with only a glider, yes it is easier for the Air benders to pull of as they are working directly with the air, but how hard would it be for a fire bender to use the heat of some flames to create the updrafts needed, or for a water bender to create steam from a body of water to get the same results. In the end the biggest thing to remember of such balancing acts is stated in physics "Equal and Opposite reactions".
Looking forward to the Kenpachi and Hitsugaya vid. Kubo's retconing of those Bankai kinda had me confused towards the end of the series

His sword has the ability to restructure itself for different functions (ex. shield, blast, binding, ect.) His Bankai has the ability to restructure other things for different functions (ex. Kisuke's arm changed for greater strength).

I already gave my thoughts on her sword during the last video with Gin, so instead before I even watch this I will say that I am one of the few people who liked her battle with Zaraki and how she went out. It made sense and both of them covered a character arc in a single fight. The real problem is that she barely did anything before then so people felt she was wasted.
She should have gotten a major fight in Arrancar arc against Yammy. He was supposed to be the strongest Espada so to live up to that title he should have defeated Byakuya and Zaraki. I would have given him a 3rd form (Vasto Lorde looking) after they beat his 2nd one and have Unohana fight that. Her beating him without Ban Kai would be mad hype and set her up for later

That is scary, he really should keep that side of him in check. My experience with those who have dark alter-egos compels me to give this warning, always keep an eye on the alter-ego. You never know what might happen.
