If we accept the theory that Lafitte has the Owl/Strix devil Fruit, that leans to another pararel between him and Brook.
As Strix, Lafitte would represent the frightning aspect of the death - the fearful, predatory, the gruesome.
While on the other hand Brook is a skeleton wearing bright, colorful outfits which makes him quite reminiscent of La Catrina - a notable part of the Day of the Dead, which is a very positive and joyous holiday.
If you want to go even deeper the owl in North America/some southern America mythology’s is associated with death, sorcery and evil. There are meso-American gods, as well as the mythological figured called La Lechuza a woman wronged in life come back to take revenge who can turn into an owl. But that’s just some fun fact :).
Personally I think is something else, every other Blackbeard fruit is something so simple, nothing weird, strength fruit, teleport fruit, ice fruit, earthquake fruit, so having a weird animal like the Strix is off even the other prehistoric/mythologic zoans are something common or well know

@@artist0154 to be completely fair, alot of them are relatively simple because they may have been some of the earliest fruits planned, either at Jaya or before then. Oda just saved some of those ideas for the present day for these characters, and they are simpler by virtue of being very early fruits. He could still have a complex/out there devil fruit, like the strix, since it simplicity is likely not an INTENTIONAL trend.

Man, if the "dying is necessary to awaken Zoan fruits" theory is true and it retcons Pell's death into an intentional hint i'm gonna laugh so hard. I'd be leaning very hard towards it just being an ass-pull retcon instead of a carefully planned long-term reveal... but it'd be hard to say it doesn't kind of work for the story.
I mean, both Chaka and Pell had fruits that lined up with Alabasta's guardians, being the Jackal and the Falcon. And since these are based on Anubis and Horus respectively, i think Oda could easily give him a resurrection awakening under the guise of "they were actually Hito-Hitos all this time!", or something like that. 🤔

If that theory ends up being true then you can branch this off into another. Which is Luffy actual killed Lucci back in Ennies Lobby and that Lucci got a second chance from awakening.

Given how the feathers come out of his back, and all basic zoans follow a human form, hybrid and full form and that we see him with JUST the wings in the instances we see him fly, I'd put money on some sort of Angel. @raymondwalker3020 True. But regardless of how much we love One Piece and how amazing the story is, this is a Shonen afterall and they like to reuse tropes and ideas from their other mangas. If it does happen, it might have not been Oda's decision by the higher ups at Shonen as you know most of these creators in Japan especially in the big companies don't have complete full control over every decision as their bosses and board of directors always have the final say so in every matter.
I like the idea that white smoke awakenings are fruit+user sharing the same will while black smoke awakenings are the users will dominating the fruits and stuff like the jailers are the fruits will dominating the user

Good stuff!! I nvr had it in my mind that lafitte could be Strix or Caladrius makes a lot a sense. Also love that you point out 52 year gap with real lafitte and brook. Thats sound like Oda parrellel, there are fights that seem obvious like
- BB- Luffy: Dreams or Destiny(Fate)
- Van Argur - Usopp- both are sharp shooter
- Zoro & Shiryu: Both were Imprisoned swordman
And there are out the box ones, like aojiki which i feel like robin will talk him out of his new conviction knowing that Saul is alive as oppose to have actual battle. Or possible thoery of Kobe vs Burgess; with both of them possessing immense strength and hold prestigious titles, like 'Marine Hero' and 'The Champion.' Kobe was also the first person Luffy met on his journey & Jesus Burgess is BB First Mate, & Kobe parrelling garp in the God Valley incident where Garp teamed up with Roger to defeat Xebec.

Maybe this is a stretch, but I think Lafitte's Devil Fruit is some kind of angel fruit. A bird zoan sounds kind of boring, especially for a member of a the final enemy pirate crew in the series. Plus, an angel fruit would explain the wings and why Lafitte's still alive: angels are often said to be able to perform miracles. Maybe the 'miracle' Lafitte's fruit granted him was saving him from the brink of death.

lafitte is far from my favourite blackbeard pirate (probably right in the middle), but he's definitely the one im most interested in learning more about. i really hope there's something special to his character that separates him from the rest of the non-kuzan crew. whether he's a traitor, has been manipulating/grooming blackbeard in a sort of trebol-doflamingo way, or that crack theory about him being hattori is actually true. i just want something crazy.
People think brook is weak but he casually just Cut off Saturn’s Leg like he’s way stronger then people realize and he’s an incredible Swordsman I like to think he isn’t actually taking fights seriously
You can’t blame people for thinking that though, it’s just the he’s never taken down much commander class characters( can only think of one ).
Saturn had no defensive capabilities tbh. It seemed like anyone could just easily put holes in him or damage him and his regeneration is what saved him

I've always believed that Laffitte has the Magician Magician fruit:
- Wears a top hat (just like magician use to make things appear, like bunnies or doves).
- Has dove wings (instead of coming up from the hat, he incorporates it to his body).
- Usually it's the assistance that tap dances, but there are magicians who include that as part of their show.
- Uses hypnosis.
It's more probable he has the Siren fruit. Hypno voice, wings

I've been toying with various ideas for OCs for One Piece for a while now, and one of my most recent ideas was a Fishman Karate practitioner who fought by manipulating flammable liquids like alcohol or oil while they're burning. Needless to say, I like this idea.
First this is exactly one of the match ups between the crews I want which I imagine that during this fight the Tone Dial in Brook’s skull will fall out which Laffitte (his age is 41 but maybe Brook fought his father / grandfather) will or maybe try to dance on it like stomping on Brook’s dream causing him to awaken his Revive-Revive Fruit which will grant him for a short time call forth the souls of people that was close to him like his convoy members, Yorki along with the Rumbar Pirates, & even Pedro to fight along with him which I call “Battle of the Band’s Reunion”
I wanna see Brook yoink his old crew’s souls for a quick show when he awakens his fruit, that would hit so hard

I think the most solid theory on what Lafitte's fruit is would be that he has an angel zoan. First, because Black Beard's crew is known for going after the absolute best devil fruits, either in strength or utility. It wouldn't make any sense for BB's right hand man to just have a random bird fruit. Second, look at Lafitte's wings. He grows an extra set of limbs to serve as wings. Every bird type fruit we've seen, including mythical and ancient zoans, has the users arms transform into wings during a partial transformation. I don't think Oda just forgot about that when drawing Lafitte in these scenes.
Also notable for OWLs is their Silence. They only make noise to call threats or territory- basically to check who is paying attention.
Brook is always making sound to reassure people and himself that he is not alone. Some kind of sound muffling effect would put LaFeet on a more even field with Brook being immune to hypnosis if both of them have difficulty affecting the other. Thus having them default to the far easier to draw high speed sword fight

Makes no sense
In my opinión Laffite's fruit is not a birds zoan, because bird zoans transfor a part of their body into wings (normally the arms, seen with Pell and Marco), but Laffite grows the wings directly from his back, so (in my opinion), it may be an angel mythical zoan, as he doesn't seem to age, is very pale and knows how to conceal his presence very well, and he could be considered the guardian angel of Blackbeard (stretching a lot right here), as he seems to do things that would benefit him by himself.
Edit: the strix also applies the wing-arm thing, and everything else fits better, so ignore my previous statements

You should take a look at WCI and Bobbin. Oda uses alot of owl references in WCI. Alone the mask of Bobbin and the way he moves his head.

The strix is also the origin for the strigoi which are a precursor of vampires, which is fitting for Lafitte as a pale, hypnotizer (and also paralleled against Brook as a different kind of undead). I'm for this match-up!

I love this video. The only thing I find funny is mentioning that Sengoku recognized Lafitte when in the manga it was Vice Admiral Tsuru (chapter 23) and in the anime it was some no name vice admiral (Episode 151). Both times, they gave Sengoku his name and him being a peace officer.
I think Brooke is going to be able to call forth the spirits of people who have died, probably limited either to people he knew/ was close to or to people he has a close link with (maybe even going as far as people like Nami's mom or Ace, even though he never met them). It may also just be people who died in the area where he's using the ability. It'd be amazing to see a fight with all of the people we miss coming in to help in a seemingly hopeless situation. Imagine Firefist happening and when the screen turns, it's not Sabo, but Ace doing it.
Oda browsing theories on the internet being able to choose any combination of solutions to his story must be a weird experience
A lot of people probably came to the same conclusion, that Brook's DF awakening will allow him to contact the spirit world and the ghosts of the dead will come to aid. I'd like to add to your idea that he will make homies out of his instruments with the spirits of his former crew. Lafitte will destroy them one by one, so Brook will say, just like when he recorded Bink's Sake: Quartet, trio, duo, (final slash) SOLO!
Or would the reverse, in which he brings back more and more crew members work better actually?
Here's another connection with Brooke and Laffite having an owl. Owl Pellets. Filled with the one thing Owls cannot deal with once consuming their prey: Bones.

I'm not sure the Straw Hats are ready yet. Zoro is ready for Shiryu, but beyond that I don't know. I think Sanji will have to fight Catarina and she will force him to hit a woman and likely turn into Nami. Blackbeard is terrifying and Luffy will likely need help with him. Luffy is straightforward and has no deception whatsoever whereas Blackbeard makes a plan build around guile and misdirection and executes it while still able to improvise when something goes amiss. Aokiji is a big wild card. There's a chance he won't be active on either side of the fight though after letting the crew go in the past I don't see him fighting them now. I think he could possibly solo the entire crew.
I find Laffitte so interesting and mysterious, my head canon is that he was who look for Blackbeard and not the other way around, and it would we so f-up if Laffitte is the mind behind everything, that he actually is mind controling Teach all this time

Excellent excellent theory. A friend of mine came up with very similar points independently. What if Lafitte’s backstory was this. As an I’ll young man, or after being brutally defeated and kicked out of West Blue, he instead of starving to death killed and ate a guy. He then was gifted with the healing powers of this unknown DF. He now knows a way to acquire DFs that no one knows, and he informed BB of this, and this is what they did to hunt DF’s and did to Whitebeard?

I always saw Lafitte's fruit to be an angel fruit, which also fits the theory he died and came back to life.
I'm not actually sure that we're on the right track with the whole "Strawhats vs Blackbeard Pirates" discourse. The most recent chapters make me believe that the status quo will change significantly before we actually fight Blackbeard as a major villain, and by that point he may have lost some crewmembers and gained new ones.
Or maybe Blackbeard can steal people's powers by awakening his fruit, and we'll have the whole crew fight just Blackbeard with every devil fruit.
So many theories, its beautiful that OP can go in so many directions. They could give us back stories back to back and make an entire series out of it.

nice points. (and I’m bouncing my points off yours) I did some research on a Griffin and it sounds VERY similar to Lafitte’s devil fruit and character. Firstly, there isn’t MUCH information on griffins, as it was said to be a beast who is wise and witty, maintained anonymity and mystery, with incredible strength and a zero tolerance policy for evil. (Keep this in mind and Let me cook) However, it is said that the creature is a MYTHICAL hybrid between having an eagle head w glossy feathers and a curved beak,(king of birds) with tufts of feathers spring from the head (representing the lions ears) w wings on its back and a lions body. (king of beasts), which makes it the KING of the creatures. (Potential Mythical Zoan w imbued outstanding haki or a will??) Griffins were said to fight to the death to keep evil out of its territory, and in some cases that territory was Gold (metaphor for any valuable in OP), Royal Families (BB’s mysterious lineage), and their Sacred Sites (Rocky Port, BB being able to get his hands on an Ancient Weapon etc) Now to bounce off your points again. My guess is that when Lafitte somehow got his Devil Fruit, it tricked him into becoming evil or one who works for Blackbeard, and his personal reasoning behind this could be that “Toroa Incident” which made him change his views on whatever life he was living and views Blackbeard’s dream as a better one. It’s not until Luffy comes and shows him the true way you know? And this mighttt be a stretch but finally in Greek mythology is said that Griffins pulls the chariots of the SUN GOD Apollo, and carried him to heaven and earth. Also (I’m on a tangent now but this is my final point) Griffins were said somehow to restore sight to the blind (ik that somehow ties into the Brook and Lafitte fight) and so maybe Brook NEEDS to kill Lafitte so he can awaken his Devil Fruit, and potentially break FREE of its control to realize his REAL dream. Point is, Griffins sounds kinda like Lafitte when you consider we don’t know too much of shit of the guy, considering that every character is based off an animal, and the overall similarities they share (especially the hypnosis/psychic ability) yeah hopefully Lafitte is the next Obito character, as one comment stated.

One piece has a lot of inverted meaning like "good" being bad and "evil" being good. Brook is the good side while looking like a devil (remember his timeskip intro being mistaken for Satan) and laffite having angel wings but being on BB's crew (obviously evil sided).

The Blackbeard Pirate matchups are interesting to predict because I don't think we'll get what we're used to outside of Luffy vs Blackbeard. That's a fight that HAS to happen. Beyond that, it could go either way.
Here's what I am thinking:
Zoro vs Shiryu
Nami AND Robin vs Catarina
Usopp vs Van Augur
Sanji vs Pizzaro
Chopper vs Doc Q and Stronger
Franky vs Vasco Shot (I originally had him up against Burgess but I truly believe Burgess would stomp Franky)
Brook vs Laffitte
Jinbe vs Burgess (That Armament Haki fight would be insane!)
All that's left is Sanjuan Wolf and Kuzan. Sanjuan never struck me as a serious fighter despite his "atrocious" crimes. I would love to see the Straw Hats fight together to take him down like they did with Oars. As for Kuzan, I think he will depart from the crew right before the one-on-ones. Maybe team up with Luffy to fight Blackbeard?
I watched it to the very end now and holy crap do I want to see this fight. It's gonna be amazing! It would probably be in my top 10 fights of one piece by the end. This video was 10/10
My theory: when Brook awakens his soul music will "raise the dead" or call back the souls of the people Lafitte killed and regreted killing effectively making a Gashadokuro which is a yokai again based on death which would actually have good symbolism if your theory is correct, Lafitte is the one who sends souls off where as Brook is the soul who brings them back
@Dak's Sake i feel like lifieet was referenced by Mr. 2 when he was telling Sanji about his Ballet Kenpo, he lut right states that there is a Tap-dancing Kenpo so... It's possible that Bon Clay came from the sams nation that Lefieet came from.

I think maybe Lafitte may have an angel devil fruit. Could conceivably have a rebirth effect, white wings makes sense, and could have an interesting interaction with Brook's soul powers.
Brook HAS used hypnotic attacks in the past! Remember his “Party Music” attack in Fishman Island?

Leaning in on this theory I would bring up that it's not just dance that's linked to hypnotism. Ms. Golden Week was able to hypnotize people with paint and Brook can do it with his music. Hypnotism in One Piece seems to be heavily tied to art and artists.
I love the owl theory because we know Lafitte somehow got into the holy land without anyone noticing and evolution-wise owls gave up power and defense for stealth so it's a great parallel

One thing to note that if we go by this theory there is also a really good case for the fruit to be an Angel type fruit. We know Oda draws heavy inspiration from looney tunes and often times in those cartoons when a character dies their soul takes on the form of an angel with feathery wings playing a harp. Now admittefly laffitte does not have a halo but if we go off on thinking him as the opposing force to brooke then his angel fruit could be even a stronger version than brooke's revive fruit in a similar vein that ton ton fruit or the ice ice fruit are. There is also a play on the angel of death as the harbinger of the final plague in biblical times which laffitte's arrival usually means. Also ties back to the messanger of God motif as laffitte does act as blackbeard's messanger and with blackbeard's ambition it would match him quite well.
Just a fun little guess on the bird, Secretary Bird. They typically have white wings, SECRETARY is in the name, which isn't exactly equivalent to chief of staff, but in a way is the right hand person. Also Secretary Birds are known to tapdance snakes to death. I Don't think there's a straw hat who's closely related to snakes, though there is Boa Hancock... Boa run.

I think when Brook awakens his fruit powers, he will do more thanhave his own version of "homies" He's gonna bring back the dead itself and control spirits of past characters. I imagine he'd summon Ace and Whitebeard to use against Teach personally. but Lafitte might be the one to activate that so brook can use it against Blackbeard.
He could have a fruit that has to do with magic or something, because hypnotism, bird production (wings), and Dissappearing and reappearing. The outfit also kind of fits
I've seen a theory that he may have an angel zoan. This would work really well with his epithet "The Demon Sheriff" by making him a fallen angel.
