    Thanks for watching! Would you build one of these?

      Hi Thomas,You did very well with a poor basic kit. I will not build one of these kits,because my wife thinks i am having a very wide,angry vocabulairy already and i don,t need to invent new severy illnesses. But i am glad you pulled it of and made it a decent looking car from a distance. That has nothing to do with your build quality,s but the kit itsell. And the numbers you gave it is just a confirmation

      @@janvanrenselaar5998 in order to avoid cursing, one useful advice while making these kits is to glue as many parts as possible when unpainted. Even though in many instruction leaflets is mentioned only these parts you have to glue together, in older instruction booklets I've seen that the area in which you cement the parts together was also mentioned!

      No thanks, I still have 2 205 turbo 16 Evo 2 in 1/43 scale from Racing 43 to assemble and that's enough for me

      @@ScaleModelAdventures That is what i always do. Assemble what is possible and paint then. Nowadays i tape of for example the struts from the tamiya kist and dont paint the innerbackside of the brakediscs. But this was worse that a re-re-re-re issued ford mustang from AMT. Not even the front bumper and ligts was fitting good under the hood or bonnet. Just look at the gap at the headlights. Sorry but when i pay $25,- for a kit i would be cursing 48 hours straigt

      I probably wouldn't build one for two reasons. It's not a subject that engages me enough, even though it is a very attractive subject for a model. Having seen your review and build I don't think I would get enough pleasure from building one for it to be worthwhile.

    I’ve just completed this kit and made it into a road car so avoided the decals. Like your improvements.

    First of all, you could ask a new decal sheet from Heller and it's possible not to have to pay even a penny for it. I did this recently for a Peugeot 905 kit, whose decals had the same problem. If the decal sheet is deep blue, it means that you'll have problems with the decal placement; they're extremely thin and fragile. However, I built this kit a couple of years ago and the decals were as they should be while the decal paper was light blue. I remember that I put one decal in the water and by mistake I left it there for many hours... the decal still on paper! I would like to build it again, but not the rally car, the road version instead.

      That's a very good point, thanks. I have requested replacement decals from Revell in the past. I have also built Heller kits such as the Alpine A110 where the decals were excellent.

    Great work! I’ve got this kit, and I think I might 3D print the parts I need, eventually.

    Excellent upgrades you added - your narration is very good. I'm working on a Fujimi BMW GT3 and I see several things in here that will be helpful right away. I built an old MPC X-Wing Fighter and the decals wanted to fall apart. I used Testors lacquer clearcoat 1261 on them and with that coating it solved the problem. Not to light not to heavy when spraying. And you have to cut the decals out one by one after that since it will become one big decal sheet then. But it worked. 👍 If that helps you.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good tip with the decals! I should remember that for next time.

    Nice work. Scratch building and detailing is a great way to make your mark on a build. I suspect the model would look very plain and basic without any additions.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers, I agree. I think you could build this in an afternoon if just doing it out of the box.

    What a fantastic build! When I watched the unboxing review I had my reservations about the kit and wondered how much better you could make it. Well, to say you've improved on the kit would be a slight understatement to say the least! The scratch built dash looks incredible as does the whole cabin! Sometimes the little things you did, have made such a massive difference, beyond what you would reasonably expect. It just goes to show what you can do with some skill, (or alot!) imagination and a whole lot of patience!
    Extremely impressive build mate.
    I haven't the patience to improve a kit as you have done, maybe little bits and bobs, but I wouldn't waste my money on the kit in the first place. I've wasted so much time and money on rubbish kits in the past, I'm just not prepared to do it anymore.
    Congratulations on a sterling build, it really is a wonderful looking model.
    Another fantastic video, thanks for posting.
    Bobby

      @BOABModels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much, Bobby. Really appreciate it. Obviously I went all in on improving this one, but hopefully some of the improvements I made can be used in isolation if there's a small part which needs to be improved.
      For instance, some of the cabin improvements I did here are similar to ones I did on other kits where I turned road cars into race cars.
      I think I'll be doing a kit with all the necessary details in the box next time though!! 😅

    Wow, you made this car look very well! I was wondering about buying this kit but as I see it's (sadly) not a great one, I have a very rocky relationship with Heller kits anyway, I bought their racing Jaguar Type E so it could fit with my Ferrari 250 GTO from Le Mans 1962 but the kit was so poorly made I never finished it. I was wondering about buying this kit too but I think the Tamiya kit would be a better choice for me, still, you did amazing job with improving the detail on this one, great job!

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much. I wish the Tamiya was reissued - it would be very popular.
      Have a look at the Revell E type if you want a higher quality kit.

  • @dvdw_graphics_crafts
    @dvdw_graphics_crafts 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Haha, opening parts just to find it lacks details on the interior... I also like the opening door feature; thought it was a Tamiya kit where you modded the doors to be openable ; )

      Yeah, I needed to add the extras because otherwise it was ridiculously empty.

    You did a great job on a poor kit, bravo! I wouldn't build it myself, I'd rather stump up the cash for the Tamiya version, although they are so rare now a good one is hard to find.

    It's a shame this kit is so poor, as it's such an iconic rally car. Your improvements worked well into turning the kit into an acceptable model, but Heller really should do better from the start. I'm amazed that your homemade decals worked better than the factory ones. Do you think it's a problem with the sheet on your kit, or will all of them be like this? Anyway, congrats on the build!

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, Gus. I think part of the decal problem is that they were loose in the box so maybe got bent? But other Heller decals I've had have been much better.
