Thank you! I've been looking at this but the draw back was the ability to seal it against bugs! Love knowing it can be solved with a few magnets!

Thanks for the comment. Someday I plan on doing another video about the van. I have a video clip that really shows mosquitoes swarming the outside of the screens. They never got inside. The other couple that we were with had a Travato camper van. Even with their doors closed. Mosquitoes were getting into their van.

Really liked your video. A note or video comment about the fact that the awning and the awning tent room are purchased as separate items would've been good to know. After ordering the tent awning room with floor and finding out it didn't actually come WITH the awning, we're getting into serious money to complete the setup. Still looking forward to using it but it's more than doubled in price!

The magnets to hold the awning tub to the car is an amazing idea. Very nice, I will add that to my setup; although i dont normally leave my door open on car side.
Great video! Following along for the ride, I love these lesser known channels

From my father, who was stationed in Alaska during WWII, two Alaskan mosquitoes can carry a full grown man off and three can drain him dry. So I agree with the necessity of an ARB room.
I watched another van camper set his ARB room up and was concerned with all of the open areas. Your solution with the storage hanger and the magnets is, and I feel this is modest praise, the best of brilliant! Absolute genius! I love the tub floor and the way you attach it to the bottom of the van. And I also love the shower/privy tent by the van and ARB room in the opening of the video. Amazingly, I do have suggestions, mainly because I have become aware of tripping and falling and the toll it takes. I would suggest glow in the dark tags on the room's guy ropes and maybe clip some on the bottom of the openings just below the zipper, just to mark them out. But I really love the way you set this up. I would go camping with you any day.

Thanks for sharing. I like that you showed the interior of the room tent (annex). I watched several videos that also were informative, but did not show the interior. It helps a lot to get this side of the story. I was also concerned about keeping bugs out and am glad that this was also important for you as well.

I have a Chevy Express that I am starting to build and yours has given me some great ideas. I also love seeing the ARB awning and screen room set up. I was wondering if it would work with the van and I see it does. I also like the use of magnets for sealing it against the van. I live in the Adirondacks of Upstate NY and the bugs are bad here too. Thank you for the videos.

Retired upholsterer here. I sewed a velcro strip beside the van door zipper and made 2 flaps, (1 out of screen & 1 out of nylon) to close gap at top of van door and also used magnets. Thought seriously about bimini snaps😮 but chickened out.

Wow I love that your van has outward opening doors on the side. Ours slides so it makes this kind of setup a little bit harder. That part you hung above the door looks like a great solution. We’re considering either an ARB or Darche.

    • @AlaskaCamperVan
      @AlaskaCamperVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello fellow vegans. The sliding doors would be hard. I’ve thought this over before, if I had sliding doors, I’d probably use a lot of magnets to hold screen tent. The Darche look awesome, but we wanted the ARB awning for the screen tent to keep the mosquitoes out.

Since it has been 1 year since this video...
Do you still like the ARB Awning?
    Is there anything you'd change?
This is impertitive to me, because I am 68 years old, and am going to be living in my (Precious) Vintage Travel Trailer (50 years old) and I am thinking about buying an ARB Awning for it...
I just need to make sure it is good enough...

    • @AlaskaCamperVan

We still love our awning. Only thing is don’t leave it out in the rain, or at least lower one pole so water won’t collect on top. Our fabric awning is stretched because we left out one night. Feel free to ask anymore questions.

      Thank y'all so much...
I turn 68 in a few days... and I am going to be living in my "Vintage Tiny Travel Trailer" (I call VT3) ... 15 foot long.
I'm moving back to Albuquerque, New Mexico to RE-Open my Acting Studio.
and want to save as much money as I can on rent... since it is just me and my dog.
My VT3 is 50 years old this year!!!
I used to "Flip" RVs (17 in the last 30 years) and this last one, I decided to keep.
The only thing it is so Tiny... but I think with this EXTRA Room that will help a lot...
IS there anything else you can think of I should consider on my New TRIP...
Let me give you something to think about.
Once we had a really nice 1 ton truck with a huge cab-over camper on it (wished I still had it... but we didn't have enough storage for Pots and pans... winter clothes etc.... cleaning things etc...
We could put Big Trash Cans (with wheels) you have to wheels... LOL in the hallway (down the middle) of the Cab-Over... 5 of them!!!!
NO ONE ever bothered our stuff while we were at any RV spots (they assumed we had a lot of trash) LOL
The Big Trash Cans are sturdy and keep out Water, Dirt etc...
I'm taking 5 (new) Trash Cans with wheels with me with my VT3...
I love using Big Trash Cans to store good things, and it keeps it dry and clean...
      Happy Thanksgiving... God Bless.
