The awning they have listed though their website looks good for $540us just wondering if that's on the way too, but it's sold out. Are you going to review that next or something like it?
I’ve been using this tent now almost six months and a few trips. For the price,it can’t be beat. Very rugged too. I have an earlier version with lots of little differences that Topoak has improved so they are developing this product and listening to feedback. They also sell an inner insulation liner now as well for cold weather camping.
Do you have a water/ condensation problem? I’ve had two now. And my first one took on tons of water. From driving In the rain. I just mounted my second one on my truck today. Hoping for better results. No one seems to be addressing the water issue. So maybe I’m the only one that has it? Could just be me. TIA
@@kongxiong6272 No. It comes with a condensation mat, and the roof is padded so any condensation would be caught there. I have slept in it through a pretty intense rain storm, high wind, etc, and no issues. The only problem I had was I left one of the windows slightly open when I went to sleep and water was blowing in through the little gap, but that wasn't a tent problem. I haven't had any issues with water intruding while driving, but I haven't driven through any big rain storms with it mounted up. The only design problem with this tent is, if it is raining, the only window with any covering is the front overhang, so ventilation will be limited. There are no awnings over the side windows. Not a deal breaker for me.
Now, i just found your channel, but i gotta say: finally someone that does a proper product review! instead of reading specs or making it a marketing video
A couple of life hacks for the tent. When installing it, if you want to use the knobs, get a small strap wrench and you will be able to tighten those knobs to the point where the start to bend the metal straps. Also, when installing the support brackets into the pop out bar, I would just do one, like he said, then do the second one when you get in for the night. Super easy and no more work.
Hey Casey, this content is something that I think is missing overall. The normal person can't alway afford the best of the best, like a 400-600 light for the rig and they want options that are budgetr freindly. Sure they might have to "hack" it a bit to make it better but not everyone has sponsor's and supliment income to go get the high end products. You are in a great position to show case the high end products but also capable alternatives to those high end ones. ALthough I can imagine your sponsors might not like you doing that so I get it. Thank you though for taking the tiem to show case something that can be of great benifit to the average person !!! Because lord knows living in Canada is a monitary challenge right now !! All the best and thank you for what you do
I bought pretty much the same tent probably could’ve picked that one up I went for a wedge style from Alibaba. It was $600 usd and $300 usd for shipping to Canada it is the same more or less and i really like it so far. I realized that every tent is made in China and company’s print their names on them, and charge extra to Canadians. I went right to the source and so far super happy with it
@@katyafried I spoke with the manufacturer when I purchased it I had it enlarged I had stainless steel struts put on it. I had extra thick mattress put on it, and I had it designed so that it opens in the foot and about a foot high, so your feet can sit straight up when you’re sleeping if that makes sense so it’s a custom job fhat i had done
@@THENEWWRANGLER Do you have the link to the Alibaba tent you bought and who sold it? I'm on the website and I would also like to do a custom job. Thanks!
If this makes sense for your application, then it's worth it. There's a false sense of security that a RTT provides. Predators and varmints are able to climb ladders. As far as ease of relieving bladder stress in the middle of the night, I'd have to give the win to the ground tent. Plus, you don't have to contend with the results the next morning. If you spend multiple days/nights at a campsite and explore using your vehicle, you have to pack/unpack everything every day (related to the tent) in order to venture out for the day. You just can't take off. The type of trails we go out on often have off-camber aspects. Having weight up high is not a good combination in those situations. I've found that a 4-person hub tent works really well for us. An amazing hub tent costs far less than even an inexpensive RTT. And then there are trailers... it's an insidious hobby/addiction. :)
I totally agree. RTT's have way more drawbacks than advantages as far as I'm concerned. I went with a Airbedz truck bed mattress and an SUV Tent by Rightline Gear. easy to disconnect from the tent and seal it up and reconnect when you get back from venturing out.
I think i would just amount it to a small trailer. I think it would be much easier for using as well. Also have the floor of the trailer for more support for laying on. Just a thought.
Thanks a bunch Casey for this very informative, thorough and honest review. Your attention to the details of the products are phenomenal. I have not seen any other TH-camrs come close. That's why I became a patron to your channel. Great example of this, is when you review the new 2024 Wrangler. Not one person, only yourself has brought attention to the new overhead roll bar. And the power seat option with less than desirable side bolstering which after a long day on the trail getting in and out, as you pointed out would leave my leg battered and bruised. Both of these are absolute game changers, and would have absolutely cause me to have buyer's remorse. Moving on to the tent review having only slept in the back of our Wrangler vowing to never sell out to a rooftop tent. Now has me COMPLETELY reevaluating. Here I thought I was done with my setup Casey. Thanks a bunch. Read the other reviews on The Merchant site. All seemed very similar to yours with four to mostly five stars. Can we use the Casey123 discount code when ordering this tent. Looks like they're not available at the moment but are taking backorders.
Discount code has no time restrictions. They are trying to bring more tents in as they keep selling them all lol I appreciate the kind feedback. Its tough to go into so much detail and not make the video 2 hrs long but overall I would rather poke at every little thing then just gloss over the specs on a website. Hopefully it helps others save money and get good products. This tent is a perfect example. thanks so much for support, I truly appreciate it.
This is perfect you don't really need the overkill of that huge battery for those little LEDs you could just use a 8,000, 10,000 phone charger... had it on all night and the battery was only down to 60% and it's the size of a juice box
Casey, Thanks for a terrific review. I am someone who would love to take my jeep out for a couple overnighters, but the cost of the roof top tents always scared me away. I know you're a tall guy, like me, I would love for you to take it out for a night and get the real feel for it (toe and head bumping the ends). I'm 6' 3" and i paying 3 grand for something that doesn't fit me would be horrible. The cost of this almost makes it worth trying it out. Again, thanks for the review.
Honestly, the likelihood of you parking in any area that is 100% perfectly flat is about 99 to 1, hardly an issue. Other than that this sure seems like a great contender for a good quality rtt! Thanks for the review!
My first rooftop tent cost me $1,400AUD for the tent AND the roof rack together. You can still pick up the tent for under $700AUD. It's a soft shell tent, but doesn't take that much of an effort to pack up. I had it for a few years of heavy usage before it started creaking and a couple of straps broke.
The secret is def out, the majority of the tents in the market come from one place, well arguably 85% of what we use, comes from there too, I have a Gomammut tent and I love it, but I think its great to have options and that ends up making better products for everyone! great video
Ah, the camping industry's best-kept secret is out! It's like finding out all your favorite snacks are made by the same company. Gomammut tent, huh? Sounds like a beast! But hey, variety is the spice of life, right? Here's to more options and even better tents for all our wild adventures! 🏕🌟
The Naturenest is similarly priced and on par with the Ikamper BDV at half the cost. I replaced the mattress with the Ikamper Comfort and am extremely happy with this setup. For reference I have the BDV duo on my Smittybilt trailer and the Naturenest on my Gladiator
Thank you for the helpful review. After LockTite on the bolts, I would put a rubber grommet/o-ring on each end of the latch bolts to keep them from rattling.
Congratulations! You're about to take your camping game to new heights! Just remember, happy wife, happy life... especially when she's camping on the roof! 😄 Happy adventures ahead!
Can you provide a bit more info on that heated blanket plz....how long does it last on a smaller battery pack like a 20000 MAh? Or when using your Eco 1, can you provide the current flow or wattage for each of the three settings plz?
Great review and tips, I’m definitely one that only overlands a couple times a year, so an inexpensive rooftop tent to get off the ground is what I’m looking for!
This was a very informative video, I’ve seen others with this tent and you spoke the truth. The others were more about the content. I think you sold me on this tent when I’m ready to buy. My only gripe would be the flat top wish they had a gutter channel a well. Or a tiny slope to shed the water when parked. The windows zippers is another one, I guess you roll them up from the bottom? Anyways I think the price point is great for a casual overlander, like you said it checks all the boxes. Thanks again Alex
It would be pretty easy to add a layer of foam for the mattress. Many camping stores have high density foam sleeping pads for a reasonable price. You can easily cut it to fit between the condensation lattice and main mattress.
Nice review! I was going to buy a RoofNest, but had a question for RoofNest customer service and they haven’t even attempted to answer. They did send me a review on how well they answered my question.
I ordered this tent directly from the website on April 24, 2024. I have yet to receive the tent and have been given a number of reasons why it has not been delivered. I have requested a refund as I had to pre order for the May 6, 2024 shipment. I received my refund. And they delivered the tent which I did not except...
@@Casey250 yeah, it convinced me. I did request a refund because it wasn't going to be delivered in time for our trip. I ended up ordering a free spirit, odyssey XL on sale for $2595. It is a 4 season tent. Getting it installed in Colorado next Monday.
We ordered ours on july 13,2024 and received it 7/17/24,set it up ,came in time for our weekend overland camping up on Nevada Forests! As long as you reach out to management via email .And get a response within 12 hours!
@@llabad27 I received .my refund and bought a free spirit recreation 4 season tent. Glad I was able to make that purchase instead. It was a close out for $2500.
We ordered ours in June and have emailed the company several times with no response. We have a big trip planned in Aug very disappointing not to hear back after 4 emails looking for a phone number
Inspired Overland sells their 76lb softshell tent at $999 picked up or $1349 shipped. Their customer service and warranty is also top notch. That's a game changer. This tent weighs 170lbs, which is ridiculous...
Would it not be easier to use a little 5k or bigger power bank to power your cell phone/tablet and the interior led overhead light? Why run it into the vehicle? I think you can just toss in the Teton Mammoth double sleeping bag, either 20 or 0 degree and that should offer more comfort on the bottom and keep you super warm. I also believe the molding on the roof is for air dynamics and to resist whistling or noise.
Hi Casey! I also have the Top Oak hard shell tent for my Jeep Gladiator Sport! I have taken it out 5 times in the past year, including a couple of Yellow Post camp sites in the San Bernardino Mountains. My experience with the Top Oak has been excellent. Note: Not used in the rain yet! I have mine, mounted over the cab of the Jeep which works out great for me. It basically, is for me only, yet it can easily sleep two (3 if you want to be cuddle bunnies!). It is very easy to open up & close. I have had "Zero" problems yet? I can easily go camping on a dime, since it is always attached to my Jeep. This of course; allows me plenty of space, for accessories to my Jeep. As well as having the Jeep bed free to load up the essentials! Happy Camping Brother! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Nice, now one that would mount directly to the roof on an econoline van. Seal to the roof. Drill acess hole from inside and a instant poptop. Leading edge needs to be more aero though. And ability to open and close from the inside.
Great review, getting ready to order myself one. Curious on your sleep set up. Is that all from 1 company? If not can you break it down for me please. Would like to look into something like that.
Thanks Casey… I actually pre-ordered this tent today since they were out of stock but I’ll should be receiving it in the next couple of weeks according to Topoak’s email today… looking forward to some adventure…
Nice one Cyber_rant , You're like the Elon Musk of camping gear-always one step ahead! Get ready to turn those "couple of weeks" into a couple of epic adventures! 🚀🏕
Nice review. I'm building a small SUV adventure vehicle and interested in a smaller or lighter RTT to match. Inspired Overland has one that is 80 pounds. By there is not enough info on their website to really compare it. The only solo tent I've found is the BDV Solo, which is still 140 pounds, but would conserve rack space for other gear.
Nice informative video. How thick is the tent? On their website it says its 4.7 inches but it looks more like 8. Could you measure its thickness and lmk please?
thanks Casey. love the additional room. i would have gladly ordered one today but you need to pre-order and pay in full, and, wait for at least a month for their next order to arrive. Just not that trusting
Thanks Casey 👍, would love to hear you go into a deeper dive into your Roofnest Overland you have on the Demonator since you've had it for a while. Likes, dislikes, worth it for a weekend overlander or is there something better that works like this one.
Will this tent fit above the bed above a Gladiator? I dont want a crazy roof rack just something that can kinda double as a tonneau and not kill the mpgs and if it does what mounting system do I need? Thanks always love the videos
Have a jeep Cherokee 2020 have you done a video on installation and can one use the roof rack that comes with the jeep? Also have you done a hard top tent that overlaps the side?
Wow this is within my budget 😮 ive always been like nah ill set up a tent or sleep in the back of the 4runner (typically dont do cause i have dogs and dont like them tracking dirt in) but this is tempting. With this i could ditch the tents and use the back of the 97 4runner for the dogs in their kennels 🤔. I had to buy a big enough tent to accommodate my kennels. The bad thing is it really makes packing up stuff harder because i have to pack so much more in the back with the dogs who usually are free back there cause i cant put the kennels up and pack my stuff. So they are jumping all over my stuff and when my boxer was a baby she even had an accident in our sleeping bag. I dont put stuff on my roof cause im short. 😂 but this comes with a ladder so i could reach. All of my bedding would be tucked away too so it really would reduce the amount of stuff in my 4runner and the stress of something happening like the puppy accident. I could even fold my seats up for the first time ever and bring a guest. 😂
I don’t mind paying $1300 plus tax but it has to be a great product too. I still could see this work for someone else just like you said. If other brands would lower their prices because of this competition then i’d rather wait for them.
if you read this you think if I bolt something like this to a fiberglass truck camper shell would work what I trying to say work like a roof opening were I would cut a hole in the fiberglass cap mount the pop up tent to it weatherproof and seal it off and cut the bottom out of the roof top tent so I could stand up inside of it in the bed of the truck and make it to were I could still sleep in it for 3 grand I already have the fiberglass cap on my truck leer to be exact is a whole lot cheaper than spending 13 grand for those overloading units
Hey Casey, your Amazon link is to a tent liner, not the tent itself. Also, the ad on Amazon is quite deceptive (not your fault obviously) in that it appears it's for the entire tent. Reviews shown are for the whole tent, etc. Careful reading finally showed me it's only for the liner. May I suggest you update your Amazon link? Thanks!
For some reason the link redirects Canadians to the liner. I've updated it several times but I can't control how amazon changes what product it lands on.
Easily. Im 6'2". If you check out my last video, I put it on my friends truck and she slept in it. We had one of the top 3 wettest nights i've had on a trip,. She said it had a bit of moisture on the zippers. She was also running a diesel heater. Even my Alu-cab can't hold out a full night of non-stop downpour completely. I think the best tent I had in the insane rain was my FSR Evolution, but I didn't care for the design and it felt smaller inside.
Absolutely! It's like the gateway drug to camping addiction. Once you pop that tent cherry, there's no going back... next thing you know, you'll be sleeping under the stars every chance you get! Welcome to the wonderful world of tent life! 🏕😄
Well, well, looks like we've got a Jeep aficionado in the house! Who needs a rooftop view when you've got a damn good tent for your JL, right? Plus, saving money means more funds for Jeep mods... or snacks for those camping trips! Keep on rollin' with that damn good eBoard Galaxy! 🚙💨

@@misurclean Ah, the second RTT-sounds like you've officially leveled up in the rooftop tent world! Upgrading from a Smittybilt soft side, huh? Bet your camping game just went from cozy to deluxe! Next stop: rooftop tent connoisseur status. 🏕😄
Which clamshell style tent doesn’t leak in the rain when closed? My CVT Mt.Hood has the worst seal on it, it fills up with water in the rain. Then you have to spend hours cleaning mold and mildew off the inside and out. Worst clamshell out there,,,
Could someone attach this to the top of a truck bed and use the truck bed for storage? You could even install a slide out kitchen in the truck bed! I guess one would have to run some 2x4s across the top of the side walls for support. Any suggestions?
Now yer talkin'! This would maybe steer me to getting a roof top tent. I debate it, then look at prices and the debate is over! Hee hee But this way reasonable, and they have three different styles. I like it. You should do a short of when it's all set up, take a garden hose to it and simulate a BC rainy day. Then have a look inside ... Better to find out in your driveway, instead of the middle of no where. Cuz THAT would be the only problem.
Looks good for the price but a fool always pays twice tho , only problems i see with it is them locks are garbage even if you get them tight corrugated roads will destroy them and that roof should only be one peice i guarantee in time that silicone seal will leak in time expesily if it holds water up there , time will tell when folks start using them , good luck , nice review 👍Australia 🇦🇺

I ordered this tent directly from the website on April 24, 2024. I have yet to receive the tent and have been given a number of reasons why it has not been delivered. I have requested a refund as I had to pre order for the May 6, 2024 shipment. I received my refund. And they delivered the tent which I did not except...
I've heard lots of those who have gotten them. I also heard this video has caused back orders because of how it blew up
@@Casey250 yeah, it convinced me.
Will be picking this one for sure, new to the whole camping thing and this will be perfect for what I plan on doing
Awesome to hear the feedback!
Try a drop of red "Lock Tight" on those hinge bolts to prevent them from backing out...
Nice, now one that would mount directly to the roof on an econoline van. Seal to the roof. Drill acess hole from inside and a instant poptop. Leading edge needs to be more aero though. And ability to open and close from the inside.
Hmm.. not sure thats the solution if you want it opening from the inside :(
Looks awesome. I would buy it for that looks like a great deal
Great review, getting ready to order myself one. Curious on your sleep set up. Is that all from 1 company? If not can you break it down for me please. Would like to look into something like that.
A couple of snap loops to hold the metal hoop would allow the hoop to pull the tent into the unit.
I've got a similar tent and it's perfect for the non full time overlander...
@@auggiways 😂🤣😂 well I just got home after 2 1/2 months living on my tent/ jeep… is been epic…
I wonder if the water still pools as much when storing bedding inside since it probably pushes up on the middle a bit
I prefer seeing/using it on the ground how your displaying the tent then on top!
This tent seems great. Wonder how it will hold up though
Could you measure its thickness and lmk please?
its 7.6 inches so 8
Great camera confidence you now have. Keep up the good work. Hope you and the fam are good
Thanks buddy! Always nice to see you pop up in the comments!
thanks Casey. love the additional room. i would have gladly ordered one today but you need to pre-order and pay in full, and, wait for at least a month for their next order to arrive. Just not that trusting
Thanks Casey 👍, would love to hear you go into a deeper dive into your Roofnest Overland you have on the Demonator since you've had it for a while. Likes, dislikes, worth it for a weekend overlander or is there something better that works like this one.
Oh good call!
Will this tent fit above the bed above a Gladiator? I dont want a crazy roof rack just something that can kinda double as a tonneau and not kill the mpgs and if it does what mounting system do I need?
Thanks always love the videos
No, your bed is 60 inches long approximately and this tent is 83, so no go.
It would over hang the cab, which I think its reasonable. But you need a full height rack.
Have a jeep Cherokee 2020 have you done a video on installation and can one use the roof rack that comes with the jeep? Also have you done a hard top tent that overlaps the side?
I haven't done anything with a cherokee. I've been looking at hard sides tents but no review yet.
Freebies and cash. No one could ask for more. I would deflate and hit the dunes!!! Awesome.
Such details! Great review. Many thanks!
Did this have black out on the inside like the roofnest? How dark is it when closed up for the night?
I don’t mind paying $1300 plus tax but it has to be a great product too. I still could see this work for someone else just like you said. If other brands would lower their prices because of this competition then i’d rather wait for them.
I think it would be worth the money for some one starting out .and can build of it to make it better for what you was looking for
Very nicely done Casey. Looks like a great tent at close to the cheapest price point.
Its actually kind of surprising how good this tent is for the money. I need to get it on a rig to see how it holds up.
@@Casey250 please do! Although I read other reviews your unbiased opinion means much more when making large purchases such as this.
Do you think this tent can be set up for a jimny or would it extend on the sides of the car?
I am not sure - you'd need to compare your measurements to the ones in teh video.
I think: The zipper issue is the zippers placements. If they had started / ended in the "foot end", AND afoot longer !
do they make it for 2 Dr? Eco pro?
might be my next tent. great review thanks
Good video. It’s a shame I can’t seem to buy this tent in the UK.
Do you know which brand hardshell rooftop tent has the most space for bedding when folded in?
No, but wedge tents tend to have the best space for bedding in my experience, or straight up pop ups.
Really good review. Thorough. Thank you.
Great info!!! I definitely could use that tire inflation system!
if you read this you think if I bolt something like this to a fiberglass truck camper shell would work what I trying to say work like a roof opening were I would cut a hole in the fiberglass cap mount the pop up tent to it weatherproof and seal it off and cut the bottom out of the roof top tent so I could stand up inside of it in the bed of the truck and make it to were I could still sleep in it for 3 grand I already have the fiberglass cap on my truck leer to be exact is a whole lot cheaper than spending 13 grand for those overloading units
@@Casey250 All good brother, just glad you're aware of it.
Anyway you can provide links to your cold weather sleep system?
th-cam.com/video/3r-fR7FAtO8/w-d-xo.html
nice job reviewing...im lookingfor a bed top tent for my gladiator.
6’4”, will I fit without toes contacting tent at the foot end? Think this bad boy will stay dry inside in a PNW downpour? Great review, thank you! 🙏
Easily.
Can this be used in conjunction with their awning? 2024 honda pilot trialsport
I would spray it white to help with heat in summer camping.
I got excited when I clicked the Amazon link and it said $159!! 😂. That’s just for the insulation kit.
I know it keeps redirecting wrong to the Canadian site or if tits out of stock. I can't seem to fix it.
Does the key have a bottle opener on it? Sold!
This would be a perfect first tent
Absolutely! It's like the gateway drug to camping addiction. Once you pop that tent cherry, there's no going back... next thing you know, you'll be sleeping under the stars every chance you get! Welcome to the wonderful world of tent life! 🏕😄
Great review of all the deets! Many Thanks! We might buy this.
A great review. Thank you!
Sounds like people wasted more money on the Rooftop. This one and the one I have is damn good for my Jeep JL. Damn good price.
great review, thank you.
Great review! Very thorough!
I just got mine a few days ago, Im super impressed with it so far!
Looks like you're officially part of the rooftop tent club! Welcome to the elevated camping life. Just don't forget to wave down at us ground-dwellers while you're up there enjoying the view! 🏕🌟
This is my 2nd RTT actually. I switched from a smittybilt soft side.
@@misurclean Ah, the second RTT-sounds like you've officially leveled up in the rooftop tent world! Upgrading from a Smittybilt soft side, huh? Bet your camping game just went from cozy to deluxe! Next stop: rooftop tent connoisseur status. 🏕😄
I have no complaints on the tent except the mattress but easy fix
Ive yet to find a RTT with a good matress.
Which clamshell style tent doesn’t leak in the rain when closed? My CVT Mt.Hood has the worst seal on it, it fills up with water in the rain. Then you have to spend hours cleaning mold and mildew off the inside and out. Worst clamshell out there,,,
i think someone has made a rack that extends the back of the hardtop . i will help you with the Drafting and design.
Does the 216lbs affect driving and MPG in a measurable way?
Mpg for sure. All my jeeps go down with a RTT on the top. Handling will depend on your rig and suspension. I dont notice them
Could someone attach this to the top of a truck bed and use the truck bed for storage? You could even install a slide out kitchen in the truck bed! I guess one would have to run some 2x4s across the top of the side walls for support. Any suggestions?
This is EXACTLY what brought me to this video.
I think that if you use just one bar on the roof bump out you may get a puddle in your roof in a rain storm.
You should be able to attach it directly to a van without roof racks and lift the bed when not in use
One thing, Maybe lay in it to see the fit. Two people also
How to these tents handle strong winds?
Define strong? If you can angle them into it it's fine.
Great concept but unfortunately, Top Oak don't seem to ship to Europe? But at least Zenbivy now has a European warehouse...
Do they offer a bottom pass through kit?
No, you would need to DIY something.
Those keys make a good bottle opener.
I like the way you think
where did yoy buy cross bar for this roof top tent?
to mount to? Cap it Canada. For teh top of the RTT? On Top Oaks website.
whats the weight capacity?
Now yer talkin'! This would maybe steer me to getting a roof top tent. I debate it, then look at prices and the debate is over! Hee hee But this way reasonable, and they have three different styles. I like it. You should do a short of when it's all set up, take a garden hose to it and simulate a BC rainy day. Then have a look inside ... Better to find out in your driveway, instead of the middle of no where. Cuz THAT would be the only problem.
Is there enough room for a thicker pad or to double layer the pad?
If you want to trade off bedding I think you could get a think piece of memory foam in there.
Really good and honest review
Looks good for the price but a fool always pays twice tho , only problems i see with it is them locks are garbage even if you get them tight corrugated roads will destroy them and that roof should only be one peice i guarantee in time that silicone seal will leak in time expesily if it holds water up there , time will tell when folks start using them , good luck , nice review 👍Australia 🇦🇺
Link for the sleep system? That heated bedroll looks very cool.
In the description 👊
Yep I’m dumb, thanks!
Real nice indeed, we have subscribed 😊
