It was CHEAP, SIMPLE, STEALTHY When we first bought the Savana Van, we wanted to use it right away. So we built this simple van build. We call it Van Build 1.0 Ask any questions or comments.
Savana Camper Van Build

Go to our channel to see The Van Tour. This video is the build from the day we bought it and started using the van, to gutting it and rebuilding it into our current camper van. Feel free to complain, comment, and question anything on our van.
Thanks 👍
Is it water proof please answer this could help me out a lot❤❤
It’s is water proof. Just don’t let the awning to pool up water on top. It will stretch fabric
@@AlaskaCamperVan thank you very much I really appreciate it😇😇😌
Absolutely awesome build! I'm hoping ours turns out 1/10 as good. Doing alot of similar stuff.
Thanks,If you have any questions on why I did anything feel free to ask
One of the best van builds on youtube. I love a low roof van too and have been racking my brain trying to decide what I want to do for a layout but I think you just helped me solve this issue. Awesome work, brother!
I have other videos of the build. Nothing special. The build was fun.
It's amazing what you did, but where do I poop when I visit?
Bring a shovel and dig a hole. Lol
One of the best setups ive seen so far. I just got a very similar van and Im not 100% sure what to do with it yet, but I will be using a lot of these idea.
Really liked your video. A note or video comment about the fact that the awning and the awning tent room are purchased as separate items would've been good to know. After ordering the tent awning room with floor and finding out it didn't actually come WITH the awning, we're getting into serious money to complete the setup. Still looking forward to using it but it's more than doubled in price!
Is this an extended chassis?
Yes it’s the extended savanna
I love this for extra space for my kitties 💕
one of my favorite builds I've seen
What a craftsman!
This calmed my nerves. Thank you. Safe travels ✌️
Thank you for showing how simple the setup can be and the versatility with some cheap magnets!
Hmm I wish rolling up the windows could be done without leaving the tent.
Right on Right on Nice build Sir Burlington Ontario
Thanks
That magnet 🧲 idea is brilliant
I like when these shows are Not about the super expensive stuff and shows real people imagination. Thx
Maybe not "super" expensive but it's definitely a chunk of change to purchase!!
I dig it. Well done😊
So love this video……
Thanks
I like the cover 😮for the sink. I can't stand seeing a massive sink the moment you open the 🚪 door. When I saw the cresent moon like on an outhouse. I thought it was your bathroom......partially correct. 😅
Thanks, I thought a simple closet door would have been too boring.
Wow you did a great job, beautiful wood work one of the best van builds I seen yet
Clever. Ty
These are the kind of vans I want to see more of!! I get so sick of people trying to show off vans that cost more than a 2 story 5 bedroom house. I like vans like this that have some character. The insistence on modern people to make everything look modern/industrial/rich is sooooo boring to me. Especially the stupid videos that straight up say…look at my 250k van, I’m 🤑. I love seeing people get creative with the materials the have available rather than van that’s impregnated with Ikea BS. Anyway, great video!
Glad you like our van. It’s a warm dry place for us to sleep, custom to our needs.
Nice! I really like your set up!
Thanks!
I got several good ideas for my build. Thank you.
Glad to hear it!
Good job, dude!
Thanks for the comment. We haven’t posted a video in a while, but we like the nice comments.
Did your van have back air and heat? Did you remove all that before adding your wood ceiling. Please explain. We have one were working on but can't decide on taking the air and heat out. We don't want to lose our cab air and heat. Thank you
Our van didn’t have any air or heat in the back. I’d probably try to keep it, and build around it in some way. Depending on where you are located those could be a luxury. Also doesn’t the van need to be running for those to work? How often will it be used is a good question.
Yes the van must be running for it to work. We do not need it at all. And it takes up so much room.
seems very complicated and labor intense why do this vs not , or wait if u are in subzero weather?
This is amazing! I would buy this van in a heartbeat.
Retired upholsterer here. I sewed a velcro strip beside the van door zipper and made 2 flaps, (1 out of screen & 1 out of nylon) to close gap at top of van door and also used magnets. Thought seriously about bimini snaps😮 but chickened out.
What’s a Bimini strap?
oh i needed to see this, im doing a similar build and your layout is nearly the same as mine but i had a hard time visualizing how it would look, this video took care of that for me so now i know my layout will work. gonna have to come back and check out more of your videos.
I like the side screen house. Where did you get that?
Amazon. It’s the ARB screen tent for the ARB awning
@@AlaskaCamperVan looking into it
I was like. Where did the wall come from ?
I'm camped out on the turnagain arm now!
Nice, we spent last week up by Tok area, Northway AK area and north Fairbanks on the Steese Hwy in the White Mountains National Recreation Area. We drive where ever it isn’t raining. 😂
Love your roof rack , did you buy it on Amazon? Love the way you build.
I bought them on Amazon.
Did you buy those brackets on your roof top? Nice built though.
I have a 2002 GMC Chevy Savanna 3500 with a cage. Just like this one. I love my van. 350,000 miles on it and still runs awesome. Wish I had $$ to do what you did with yours. Good Job
This is the best cargo van layout I’ve seen! Thank you so much for sharing! I’m doing a rebuild on my Ford Econoline and you’ve given me so many great ideas! 💜 it!
Do solar shower in the tent room?? 🤔 It super cool love your build!😉❤️😁
That's a wow for sure!! But really want to see the potty room, too🤔 did you use tile?? Is it an shower, too??? Lol fantastic job for sure!👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nice build but your dog kept distracting me. She's so sweet 🐾
👍👌❤️🇨🇦
Nice build. Simple but functional. And I like the way you put the screen house on the side. That is perfect for nice nights when you just want to sit outside and relax without the mosquitoes eating you alive. Thanks for making this video.
why do people always leave out the tool boxes, spare parts, and jacks.... it is a chevy, they break...at the worst possible times
I do carry tools for van, electrical issues, and stuff for changing/repairing tires. I’m wondering, what spare parts? I get regular oil changes and my mechanic really looks over my van
Awww I want to see tent
Check my other videos.
Waaaay cool!!!!
Wow, Ive seen a lot of van builds since im in the same process but I have to say this is the nicest...most well thought out and quality build Ive ever seen. Not sure if you did the outdoor screened in area in a build type way since you didnt mention anything about that living lounging area? Maybe you have a separate video on that, I will check your other vids...BRAVO !!!
Yeah, check out the other videos. I’ll gladly try to answer any questions. If I can still remember 😉
Put aces Bread Ties together and put them where Use Tab broke off Ur zipper to the Front of Ur room tent
We tied a cord to it. It’s good to go.
From my father, who was stationed in Alaska during WWII, two Alaskan mosquitoes can carry a full grown man off and three can drain him dry. So I agree with the necessity of an ARB room. I watched another van camper set his ARB room up and was concerned with all of the open areas. Your solution with the storage hanger and the magnets is, and I feel this is modest praise, the best of brilliant! Absolute genius! I love the tub floor and the way you attach it to the bottom of the van. And I also love the shower/privy tent by the van and ARB room in the opening of the video. Amazingly, I do have suggestions, mainly because I have become aware of tripping and falling and the toll it takes. I would suggest glow in the dark tags on the room's guy ropes and maybe clip some on the bottom of the openings just below the zipper, just to mark them out. But I really love the way you set this up. I would go camping with you any day.
Thanks for the nice comment
Wooooo super vary good job
