I just ordered a Gelelf plate from temu but now I see I could have bought a similar size plate of the good brand from a local art shop here in my city in Europe for just €1,11 more. Temu is getting more & more expensive for art supplies if I can buy the name brand plate right here for €1,11 more…and no waiting! 😡
The prices are about the same as other brands in local craft stores in Australia. Their website also doesn't specify well the details of the paints they sell, no info about the company. All looks dodgy, and with Temu's poor reputation for professional ethics, I wouldn't buy from them.
Really happy to see the review. GelElf was all I could afford and I had nothing to compare it with. Yes they stay a bit sticky but it does not affect the prints. I love mine. Let GelElf know that I immediately went to purchase the acrylic boards - I really need those.
@@FroyleArtI got one from them but no instructions can you please put a picture of the instruction info somewhere? Also the Barren they sent you I didn’t buy cause it really is too textured and weird. But the speedball barren is good. Thanks for running through their plates Froyle. I like the Geli Art plate 12x 14 and have used it for 8 yrs- still good. ❤

Oh, wow! So many BEAUTIFUL and CLEAN Gel Plates! How thick is the gel part on them, we need actual measurements to feel the full envy and all, you know! :) Also, what did they smell like?! This was an incredible collection! And you were ADORBS to watch while you opened them! The new stencil looked like it was MADE for that circle, by the way.❤ ❤ ❤ I just erased an entire paragraph when I discovered the price on their web site was astronomical, but their Amazon prices are a few bucks less expensive than Gel Press. :) Their web site prices were QUITE the sticker shock. So to everyone else, check their Amazon prices before you give up on them. Thanks for this, Miss Froyle.
Thanks for doing this review. I’ve always wondered what these plates are like. They are certainly a cheaper option if you have to pay freight as well. Love that circle shape❤😀
Will try Gelelf❤. Thank you for sharing your new toys. Also love the round one. I’m going to try and make a circle from paper and apply to gel plate and make my own sizes ❤❤
8:36 I actually went to the hardware store and got wood cut for me to design a frame just like this one. It's gotten good use. Nice that people are selling them now.
Thank you for all for the great demonstration on the jelly plates. I’ve been curious about whether that’s expensive ones would work out well. Thank you!
Thank so much for doing this - very helpful. I’m considering investing in a 16X20 plate and wondering what brand to buy. Right now, there is not a real difference in the price at this size. But what is different that I’m not sure most people are aware of is that GelElf plates are silicone, not glycerin gel. They are actually a completely different thing. So it comes down to whether silicone works as well as glycerin. Your demos helped answer that (I think this is why the GelElf don’t discolor)
So good to know! I’m loving my GelElf 20 x 16” I’ve used it the past few videos! 👍🏼 it cleans off very easy 😍 love the size! Temu sells them the cheapest, cheers
Wow, great gifts from GelElf and product review. I noticed brand new the GelElf plates did not 'lace' the first layer of paint as the other brand gel plates do. Your first magenta print was perfect! Love or hate that feature, it's completely absent with the GelElf brand. Thank you Froyle and THANK YOU GelElf!
Thanks a lot for your wise lessons on the gelplates. I'm using two Gel Elf plates since 2 weeks now. Doing a lot of try (and error). One of my experements was marmering one side and then the odder side with another colour marmering. Then knit a perfect square and you get an origami paper, double coloured. I go for more adventures with my Gel Elf plates. 🙃
I’ve had mine for about six months and it is still really clean. I use mine almost daily and abuse it with charcoal transfers, pastels, markers, you name it. Only takes a spritz of water for it to come clean. Love it. Thanks for the review! 😍
I'm thinking the tackiness might hold the paint better as it seems when you pull the print off the plate, it comes off very clean. I do like the round prints you made with your stencil. Thanks for the review, very informative. :)
I have two different brands of gelplates. There is a definite difference of stickiness between them. I've found that the less sticky one gets stickier as I print with it, and the one that starts out sticky needs less warm up time.
You know how they’re really sticky, i find that is really useful for drying prints or watercolours that have buckled a bit during painting. Just stick the sheet face up onto the gelelf and leave it to dry perfectly flat 😊
Gelelf seems a lot thicker to me, looks double the thickness from when you compared to the other plate. Gelelf looks so thick and luscious, I’d want to roll around in it too 😂
Thanks for sharing. These plates really are affordable for us Aussies and Kiwis compared to other brands, we pay an arm and a leg just with shipping alone 😂 these beauties are fantastic. Thank you for introducing us to Gelelf 👍❤️
Interesting. I've not come across Gelelf before (I'm in the UK). I've only used one plate that wasn't gelli arts/gel plate before (not Gelelf either) and that was overly sticky. In the end I couldn't get it to release paint at all (despite careful cleaning, conditioning, different paints and papers, etc) and ended up throwing it away! (I'm fine with the gel plate/gelli arts ones). It had also discoloured in sunlight (not a problem in itself, but odd). I'd be interested to see how these hold up to use.
I would love it if you could review Gel Press plates. They are cheaper than both Gelli Arts and Gelelf here in Canada. My last plate (>10 years ago) was Gelli Arts, as I think that was all there was, and I can't compare as it was too long ago. I am sure I will want a large plate at some point, and hope that Gel Press will suffice because the price difference is major!
Oh wow, I'm absolutely gobsmacked. It's unusual for me to talk like that, but, wwwooowww. Now you can do your gel printing. And move on to another plate while it's drying. This is so exciting! I can hardly contain myself. Bubble wrap, yay, more mark making. Lol, pick the bits out of the stencil first! 🤣 what a beautiful flower stencil that is! But yes, it looks very flimsy. So far, I have avoided temu, lol.
I bought a 16x20 Gelelf from Temu. Yes very sticky. Also I’m having heaps of trouble with the paint beading. I’ve done 25 prints but it’s still happening

THanks for the review, it was very beneficial. Although I can't see that they are much cheaper after googling them (I'm in Australia), so some of that might be our horrendous $ at the moment. But even in US dollars there doesn't seem a lot of difference in the prices really.
@@FroyleArt I'm sure they are. But I refuse to shop on Temu, due to much of it being stolen artwork, ideas copyrighted product stolen etc. Also worker exploitation.
You don’t need to use an acrylic board underneath, I just do that so I can pick it up & move it around. Especially when I’m working on a few gel plates at the same time! 👍🏼 cheers

Hi Froyle, I find that gelelf plates totally repell transparent paint (matisse) as well as fruid and hiflow (golden). What am I doing wrong? is there anything I can do to fix that?
I purchased a gelli plate a couple years ago, kept it stored in it's package. It seems to have shrunk in size. Is this bad? Is there a way to prevent this?
I don’t know about that! Pull it out & give it a go & see how it prints. Maybe give it a run with baby oil to replenish the oils, it might have dried out a bit 👍🏼 cheers
