This is really amazing! I loved every second of this video. I'll be watching again and sharing with all of my printing friends. The thing that has always frustrated me is the more "crafting" side of using a gel plate. This truly feels like fine art level. Kudos to your innovation. You make this purchase very tempting!
Thanks Carole, that's a really lovely message. Bowled over by all the positive feedback and that people are finding videos useful : ) x
I couldn't agree more.
I’m in agreement with you. Gel plate is only the bare beginning. 👍🏻
You can make tour own gelli plates any size you want and much cheaper than buying them. They work great and last a long time. I love your work and your videos.
that crow brings joy to my heart.
That's great Jayne, I love to see them, and the rooks going to roost at night. My favourites are Jackdaws, beautiful birds : )
Hi it’s me from camping skyla you’ve come such a far way congrats!❤
Oh, I just LOVE this. The crow/raven is so expressive.
I have crows, and wish they would befriend me. But they are country crows and don't need our offerings of food, so they stay away.
I love all your videos. And its a joy to see how you create.
Cheers Shannon, I have very friendly Robins and blackbirds in my garden... the rooks roost near my house and make a real racket at bedtime so I don't want to befriend them!!!!
If “chuffed” means really happy, then I’m chuffed to have watched this video! I have been at my plates all day, wondering if I am ready for the big plate and after viewing this video, I am convinced it’s time to order! I enjoy working larger. You also answered a long lingering question of using canvas board. Awesome video! You made my day.
You only live once Gretchen so treat yourself x
chuffed is happy btw! i had to look it up but apparently comes from old english meaning 'swollen with fat''. i can kind of see the link!!!!
I absolutely love the crow monoprint!! I have a magpie I have linocut that I should dig out to play with. It's funny because I don't think I have the patience for masking tape collograph but I will happily carve a lino block! Great video as usual! Tfs
hi pippi, don't be put off, if you have patience for lino you'll easy get through masking tape technique : )
My favorite video out of all your outstanding content! Had to comment for the Max Porter reference 🐦⬛
I could watch you do this all day. Your process is fascinating and I love both pieces.
Your absolutely spectacular process and work is second only to your generous spirit! You’ve inspired me to try this to get thru a struggle I am currently facing with my backgrounds. Thank you. 🙏
It's amazing for backgrounds. Tonight I ma going to do an A2 Otis Redding on canvas board and most of the fun will be in layering, sanding, collaging that background : )
@@yeatesmakes can I see it? I love Otis. Your Augustus print is fab. As a textile artist, I would love to see stitching and possibly more mixed media. A technique I’ve used is to glue ripped newspaper down onto canvas board, paint over with tinted gel medium and sand the edges so they blend into board.
I am over the moon with your true art fabrications. I love crafting but you use gel plates at a much higher level. Very inspiring
You are getting famous ! So many comments ! I am proud of you and of course, like all the others, grateful !
Lol! Not sure about famous but it is really lovely to read so many supportive comments and know that folks are inspired to try something new : ) Thanks, as ever, for comments and support marijke x
I've just bought my first gelli plate and can't wait to play with this process.
I've got that one, and I love it. You don't NEED to use the entire space, but having that option is great
Indeed, agreed, it's like stretching out in a big pool after having your knees up in the bath for a year!
What a fabulous video! I love how you have combined the techniques from previous videos. Thanks so much for trying new things and sharing your knowledge. You are a gem!
Cheers Lori, glad you're still enjoying : )
WOW! you have blown my mind with all your Gelli printing techniques, thank you, will definitely be recommending you to all of my subscribers😁
That's great Suzi, thanks! I'll give your channel a plug too : )
@@yeatesmakes that's very kind, I'm no where near as talented as you but I try lol😅
Wow I thought my 12x14 was big. But that is huge and glorious, and I can see many positives with this. And I have found Amsterdam is one of my favorite acrylics to work with, especially my base layer. Thank you for your videos and sharing your skills., you are so inspiring.
Oh and I love that skinny brayer
Cheers Tam B
Another really great vid -- TY for the lovely techniques -- the Pablo poster rocks!
You have very unique ways of working with the gelli plate. Love it! Love your work.
This is so inspiring. I am amazed by how reliable your transfer process is I still can't get it to happen reliably. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
mine are pretty reliable but it took a while to realise how much difference timing, thickness of paint and pressure makes...
A fellow printmaker sent me your link last night - and I have been 'binge watching' ever since. You are so generous and such a brilliant and inspirational communicator - thank you so much. I knew nothing about gel printing - now I can't wait to try!
With a bit of imagination, its a really versatile bit of kit - you'll love it!
OH WOWSERS!!! I love both pieces and YES YES YES to the giant gel plate .... Here's hoping to see more ... you've made my Sunday 👍👍 Greetings from Amsterdam NL
Very serious 😂... dude ... I love your art !!! When I have time and I watch your videos ... I need to get up and make my paint art. I watch you and think oh wow what happened when you do this when he do that ... I look nice naybe ... I must do it ... try it.
You inspire me ❤
Thanks a lot !!!
🌻🇩🇪👍
Epic as ever and I can’t believe your crow is SO similar to work I have been doing with a linocut crow representing threat . I think your Dad would be so proud of you making your amazing journey accessible to us all . Thank you
Corvids are really interesting subject matter : ) If my dad was around I wouldn't be able to get him off camera, he was a great performer!!!
Fabulous video. I learned so much and just love watching you work. I recently purchased a large gelli plate, too. I hope my work can come out even a 10th as well as yours and I will be in heaven! Thank you for the demo. You have inspired me to try something more complicated than I have so far.
The print with the crow really touches my soul. I love it.
: ) x
De toute beauté,tout simple si simple avec toi.Grâce,à ta grande maitrise et ton immense travail.Des heures de travail….💕
merci Chantal : )
Bravo! Bravo! Great process with your monster Gelli plate Mark. Stunning results and thanks for sharing.
A pleasure : )
You are a total bad ass! thank you for sharing your art and ideas with us!
Good for you! Keep having fun...I know I'm having fun just watching you!
Fun first!!!
Oh my god, this video was absolutely riveting the entire way through. Incredible work! ❤
Wow! Love! That’s a lot of work, but it sure does show in the end result with all the yummy texture and layers! Thank you for sharing 💜
You just get better and better--both at finding new ways to exploit the potential of gel plates and at delivering quality productions that convey huge amounts of information and inspiration with great economy. On pretty much any other channel,--especially art channels--I'd evaluate the likelihood that a 30-minute video would be worth sitting through. Here, I just dove in, knowing I'd emerge yet-more-inspired and better informed. You delivered in spades! These pieces are awesome creations, and really expand upon the techniques you've explored in other videos, over the last year-plus. Registering your individual, shaped plates directly on the print is a great idea (so long as there's no risk the tape will pull up your ink!). ...Now that I write that, I'm thinking perhaps a longer "tail," even if of scrap paper or mat (mount) board, would let you fix the position, without risking the surface character of your print.
I also greatly appreciate the evaluative comments on the utility of a plate that size. Waiting for this video was like being a kid waiting for Christmas. I've been eyeing a 16 x 20 gel plate for some months, now, but wondered whether I'd actually make use of it. Your results have convinced me it's right up my alley.
Kudos also to your partner for nabbing the skinny brayer for you. You put it to exceptionally good (if delayed) use. It occurs to me that the small area of contact might also deliver an intensified pressure, much like the rounded bowl of the wooden spoon you use to rub down your prints. But those marks it makes are, indeed, exceptionally nice.
I particularly love the crow print. (Check your email.) Partly that's because I particularly love crows. They're such designerly birds; rather like penguins but without the overbearing flash and too-cute bowling pin bodies. But even more than the fact I love crows, I love your print because of the range of expressive marks and techniques you incorporated into the image. Sorry if I repeat superlatives too often, here; I flail to come up with new ones on this channel. But that print is absolutely stunning! Definitely among the best work I've seen you post!
I agree with everything you say, Xeno!
@@FR-wc2dn Clearly, you are a person of great insight! LOL But seriously, thank you. I appreciate your supportive comments!
I completely agree with Xeno! Your giant gel plate video is incredible. The other demos are excellent as well but this one has raised the bar. So professionally produced. It has been informative and inspiring to view and review all of the stages of your work. You are the rock star of the art tutorial channels! Thank you for your generosity.
Hi Xeno, as ever, thank you so much for the comment. I was worried about publishing a longer video - felt a bit self-indulgent! I am delighted people feel there is enough in there to justify 30 mins. Go for it with the larger plate, I've only used it three times and am totally convinced it's worth it in terms of freedom to push techniques. Thanks so much for the support and loyalty to the channel x
@@yeatesmakes You're most welcome for any support I've been able to provide. It's much deserved!
I forgot to say elsewhere that I vote for the video on combining laser prints. I'd really like to see your take on piecing them to achieve a larger imaging area. I've got some ideas of my own, as well, and would love to see what you come up with!
Thank you so much for the time to create this video. I have watched a number of your videos but until today have not been able to have a successful transfer process. Inspired by you whilst travelling to the uk I bought some Amsterdam paint and today I persevered & created my first print that worked. I think the extra time in the plate helped too. I am so excited at taking my creativity on a new journey. Thank you
A pleasure to share Gina. And I'm delighted you managed to get a successful printing session. Trial and error and we get there! : )
Absolutely brilliant! Getting tired of the messy gel print videos where they slap on paint and premade templates with predictable outcomes. This is beautiful ART! I just purchased the larger gel plate, and this video is just what I needed to inspire me. Thank you!
A big gel plate like that needs a talented artist such as yourself to do it justice. I really enjoy watching you create--always stunning work! I learn so much from you.
Cheers Abby, that's a lovely comment
I find everything you do so inspiring! Love, love, love the bird piece especially!!!
Cheers Paula, glad you enjoyed. That paper collagraph techniue is loads of fun, you get some really unexpected results, as well as some predictable ones too!
Wow, what incredible work! I just love all of the techniques you have shown on your videos but this one takes the cake! So much interest in your pieces. Would love to know if you sell your work online? Thank you for sharing all that you are learning with the gel plate. I have watched many videos over the years using it but you have moved it full speed into the fine arts world. Your work is fantastic!
So very happy for you!! This is beyond cool!! As always, your techniques and art are outstanding.
Cheers Aino : ) Glad to now you're still tuning in : ) x
Lovely message Carol, thanks : )
Just came across this video. Your work is amazing...and your techniques, even more amazing. Thank you!
Fabulous work Mark and so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing.
You had me at crow. But as soon as you mentioned book, I paused the video, hit Google and purchased immediately. It’s said one doesn’t find a good book, it finds you. Thank you 🖤
Love it! If you enjoy, get 'Lanny' by the same author, that's a cracker : ) x
I'm so blown away by your vision and creativity...thank you for sharing so many fabulous techniques! I love your videos!
Thanks for sharing your experience and art! I especially liked your techniques for incorporating text.
This was an extremely cool and helpful video, thank you! Waiting for my big gel plate to arrive....going to use your video as a starting tutorial :)
Oo thanks for your work and generous sharing. ❤
WOW!!!!!!! Mind blown! Thank you for sharing these techniques. It is so inspiring! Ive never seen anything like it THANK YOU!
Wow the raven is fantastic😊
This is a great video for inspiring me to finally unpack my Gel plates that I purchased about 5 or 6 years ago. A local art supplier was closing shop and studio and the reduced prices were so low I couldn’t resist. Now I’m seriously considering it might be time to start using them 😎
release them from their boxes!!!!!
❤🎉
holy sh*t you just blew my mind!!
I'm about to try every amazing technique you just showed us!!
I'm liking, subscribing and watching ALL your content!!
Your technique with the masking tape is so fascinating.
I love it, been a bit distracted with the gel plate but printing off masking tape is really rewarding : )
I have just found your channel and LOVE IT, Thank You!
Wow! Amazing
Cheers Patty : )
Been waiting for this video! Wow! You are so talented! Looks amazing...
Cheers, glad you liked and was a fun one to make!!!
I have a large gel plate but never had big enough paper to m as ke a print full sized. You make me want to find tge right paper and play with my gel plate. Thanks for the inspiration. I love your prints. So cool as always
Glad you feel inspired. You should be able to pick up some smooth drawing paper to print on at the art store or online BUT try anything... for example, I'm planning on using cardboard box, flattening it and then printing on that!
Your an absolute master and for you the big plate is definitely worth it. both pieces are phenomenal and intricate… love the 2nd one 🤩
Cheers Reni - the second one was fun\!!!!
Absolutely BRILLIANT !!!!! Thank you so much .
Cheers Judith, very kind : )
I love the raven ❤ OMG sooo wonderful!!!
Ur enthusiasm is contagious and ur videos simply fantastic !
Wow! I just took a basic gelli plate class this weekend and the lady who taught it told us about your videos. So amazing to see what can be done with this plate.
I am in love, too! With your videos! You are a stunning, inspiring, generous tutor!
Thank you for the videos- I'm finally feeling like making Art again after watching!
That's music to my ears : )
Whoa this was amazing. Love how you mix your techniques and play. Learned a lot. But mostly enjoyed watching you work. Thank you.
You are truly amazing. It was fun seeing the evolution of the Augustus Pablo print especially since I grew up in Jamaica! Lovely work.
: ) hey Janina, thanks for the lovely message, I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Your prints are getting more and more professional! Maybe it has something to do with the size but both your prints are fantastic. So nice to hear that you fell in love with this large plate.
And then that skinny brayer...I've been searching but I can't find it. Does your partner have a little tip? Or...keep it to yourself, sell them and go rich, because I think the gelplate/mixed media world will go crazy over them 🤪... I'll be the first to buy one!
You're a true gelplate specialist, thanks Mark! 👍
Hi Mieke, I will ask her to go back through emails and see if she has a receipt for it. Definitely in love with the big plate!
For those of you wanting to know where the thin brayer I use in the video came from, link is below...
www.lawrence.co.uk/narrow-rubber-roller-red.html
This is a general link to the source, not to the item, itself. If you replace the "printmaking.html" with "narrow-rubber-roller-red.html" you will go directly to the range of narrow brayers. There is also an interesting-looking option more like a round-edged wheel at "narrow-rubber-roller-black-curved-7mm-wide.html" Failing any of those working, for whatever technical reasons, searching the overall site for "narrow rubber roller" will call up both options.
I so enjoy your descriptions of your process and experimenting! Very inspiring!
Hi Yeates. Thank you for the answer. My question is about the big gelli plate you used in this fantastique technique of yours. I could see that you are an extraordinary artist. Thank you so much for sharing your art with the public.
Thank you for sharing the link to the brayer.
It's interesting.
can't find the name of that thin brayer form your link. It's like a tracing wheel with no serration. Can you give me a proper name for it?
Wow, just discovered you. Only recently acquired a gelli plate, you've inspired me to play! What fun is this going to be?! Absolutely love both your pieces 💗
Well done on great art and a great video to explain your process. So kind of you to share ... Now I need to watch more of your videos ☺️👏
Awesome job! So enjoy your videos. You should be getting sponsorship support for your innovative work!
Lol!!! Not sure I want sponsorship, might kill the fun of making vids if I have to bang on about products and make sure I feature packaging!!!
Your work is inspiring…thank you for sharing. I appreciate your great instruction and delivery.
A pleasure and thanks for positive comment : )
I LOVE Augustus Pablo! What a cool print!
I absolutely loved this video. Your enthusiasm is contagious.
Really loved your video and your use of all the different techniques! Thank you so much for sharing. My 11x14 gel plate hasn’t left the box yet! Getting up the courage to give it a try 😆
Oh my word Renee, crack it out, you're burning daylight!!!!!
what fun! i watched twice, last night was too early this morning for my brain to compute.
Wonderful. The kind of monoprinting technique videos I’ve been looking for.
Pleased vids are useful Susan :)
Super turorial/demonstration of your techniques. Thank you.
Mark, Another fantastic video with two very different, yet wonderful pieces! Love how you dove right in and didn't seem to hesitate or get intimidated by the mega-plate. The poster size seems like a great fit for you. So much going on here that I will have to view a few times at least. Glad that the channel has provided you with a bit of income to dazzle us even more.
Hi Susan, no hesitation!!!! was itching to have a go with it!!! Glad you enjoyed the video : )
I love watching you work with this larger gel plate. You seem so comfortable with the larger format.
Hi Sa, haven't had much chance to play but this weekend I'm back on it with some big drawing! Loads fun
Really cool techniques! I love how you are using stencils and resists with the gelli plate. You have sparked some ideas for my own work. Thanks so much for sharing. 😍
So pleased to hear, that's my main aim, to encourage a bit of making!!!
So fun to watch your process and fabulous results!
Reall enjoy your videos. I tried making my own gel plate and it was a disaster…so I bought a Gelli plate. Did some tests and they were ok. My artmaking leans more towards traditional printmaking and loose like yours. This video on the larger plate shares tips I needed to try again today. I was approaching my tools incorrectly and got bad prints. Now I understand better, after watching this video, how I should have been using my drawing tools and the order of printing to get good results. Gonna try now. Will watch yr other videos for more understanding. Thanks so much!
Really enjoyed watching this, thank you for sharing 😊
I took a semester of print making in grad school but haven’t picked it back up. Seeing your videos gives me ideas in how to bring it back into my artistic practice
Sounds like it's high time you revived some printing in your life ; )
Wonderfully edited for momentum and interest. I can imagine the real time work took many hours.
I love the screenprint look achieved with some of these methods without the excess bother.
Congrats on making most of humongous gelli plate. Working on that takes real artistic commitment as a bad result would be hugely disappointing.
Reversing the guy's image on photocopier before transfer could be interesting, too.
Cheers Chris, the work did take a while but you make the time when its fun! the screen print look technique is something i'm really pleased to have developed, as you say, actual photo emulsion screen printing is a lot of bother...
Both pieces are PHENOMENAL!!! " Respect! "
: ) Cheers Deborah
This is just flippin' incredible!!!! Such amazing talent and creativity.... and you are great at teaching it in an understandable way!! Thank you!
You are such a brilliant artist. I LOVE your work. So inspiring.
So grateful you are sharing your techniques. So much fun to watch and help me decide if a gel plate is right for me. Thx.
Just ordered mine..14x14...you've given me some great ideas! Ta!!
Absolutely love this video and your outcomes. Youre teaching us so much 😊 thank you
This is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your techniques. I like the bird collograph plate as an art piece in itself after you did the first pull with it.
: ) Cheers for the comment, those paper collagraphs are loads of fun
Both pieces are absolutely stunning! You do such interesting work on the gel plate.
Cheers Diana, really kind : )
I've been stuck in a creative rut of late and And just wanted to say that you have Inspired me. Thank you
That's my favourite type of comment : )
Dang, dude, those were awesome lessons, with absolutely beautiful results! Thank you, thank you.
Hi Alice, thanks so much, was a fun one to make. Just cracked the big gelli out again and been playing...
You are a joy. And a wonderful teacher!!
Cheers Jo, that's really kind to share : )
OMG! You took gel printing to a whole new level liked and subscribed
Thanks for subscribing, really helps boost the channel, and the comment too which helps with recommendations : )
Another great demo. From covid to Corvid. I love this group of birds. I love my large plate too tho the Gelpress not quite as big. Will try and find some me time to play with some of your techniques. Fab as ever. Bx
Cheers Bixxy, I love corvids too, Jackdaws my fave - been working on a video looking at multi layer stencils using a drawing of a jackdaw. should be ready soon :)
Wow! A really great Gelliplate!
Wow, you deserve many more subs on art you tube, really enjoy your videos.
That's a lovely comment Ellie, thanks. Truth told, I am overwhelmed that 10,000 folks subscribed!!!
Soooo happy I find your channel.. tanks for this one just what I was looking for…. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️😁👍🇩🇰
Brilliant news, glad it helped : )
My stars, that’s a huge plate! Nice!
It's massive!
