It's called the Albatross because that is the more accepted name for a "Double Eagle" around the world, also known as the rarest score in golf. The photos are all golfers who've hit an Albatross at a Major circa 1997? Either way it's the most insane thing ever and I'm glad it exists.
I grew up in Brunei, went to school with a couple of the royals, I got a chance to see part of the garages, they were all mental. That's only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their opulence though
@ His kids were split into their own palaces, with a couple in each, and each palace was a ridiculous mansion in its own right. I’ve only been to mateens palace where he stayed with the siblings who were all kids of the sultans second wife. We used to get around on atvs, he had his own zoo at that palace, like giraffes, zebras the whole lot. It was wild to experience as a teenager. He also got a Ferrari laferrari week of release, and owned an Eleanor mustang. I met his cousin at a party and he was telling me how he’d just bought one of the batmobiles, then showed me the pictures of him in it in his garage. God I’ve got stories for days, let me know if you wanna hear more lmao
Btw, the story of the leak is because Prince Jefrei posted a instagram story talking about "True car guys respect the privacy of other car guys", and that story exploded and a lot of ppl started calling him out because he is gatekeeping the greatest car collection that has ever existed and started a movement to leak as many photos of the cars that they can. The photos them selfs seems to be the government inventorying the cars, since in May 2000 his assets began to be retrieved by the government. So there is at least one photo of every car he had in 2000 so many more may come out.
The Sultan of Brunei has part of his car collection close to where I live in a town called Mt. Kisco, NY. You can find it on google maps. It’s on Westwood drive in Mt. Kisco. It’s the house with two rows of trees leading up to it from the road. The garage is ginormous. He also has planes and helicopters in it as well.
@@berkayatay3957 it’s even bigger in person. I worked near it for a few months. I drove past it multiple times everyday. I learned a lot about the house and what’s inside it. I wish I could talk more about it.
If Brunei wants to open up to tourism like it says they want: build a big complex including a museum for the really special stuff. Add a nice hotel, water park etc where your kids/wife’s are fine with spending a few days. During you build this bring in professional crews for the cosmetic repairs of the cars. And then you have a perfect place where car ppl stay a few days before heading to Indonesia etc…
Would be nice but I’d guess that would only happen if the country had a revolution and the king got ousted, it’s a strict Islamic country and pretty much an absolute monarch.
As its not mentioned in the video intro, supposedly the pictures came to be when the Brunei government caught up with what Prince Jefri was doing in the early 2000s and was forcing them to sell the cars he had been buying. Whilst this mostly affected the scores of S600s, Rolls Royces etc he had bought, the family were asked to take an inventory of the "special" cars in their collection so they took the photos. They were then forwarded to high-end dealers in the UK to get a feel for any potential buyers if they were to sell any (the UK being chosen as 99% of the cars are RHD). The story goes that these photos were leaked from one of those UK dealers who received them 20+ years ago.
The EB110 is by far the coolest car in the collection IMO. The "tasteless" interior is so tastefull that it comes off tasteless. whos got the balls to go for something like that? someone with BOLD taste. I LOVE that car.
My theory on the Jeep Grand Cherokee is that someone in the Sultan's family was being driven around in one of their super expensive, super unreliable (Italian/British) cars and it broke down on the side of the road. In order to inconvenience the member of the royal family as little as possible, the driver simply got out of the broken down luxury car, flagged down the first decent car that drove by, which happened to be the Jeep Grand Cherokee, bought it from the owner, and drove the member of the royal family home. That's how a Jeep Grand Cherokee became part of the Sultan of Brunei's insane car collection. Story time is now over boys and girls.
The word albatross is sometimes used metaphorically to mean a psychological burden (most often associated with guilt or shame) that feels like a curse. I like to think they still have it around to tease whoever in the family bought it.
The Pininfarina XJ220s were originally supposed to have a unique racing derived V10 installed (as were the cancelled F50 Bolides) but ultimately were fitted with 650hp racing versions of the V6 mated to the Prodrive transmissions. I was fortunate enough to speak with someone who helped order the cars and they said it was an absolute monster on the road.
If I'm not mistaken the Australian Suburbans used a mid 90s S10 Blazer dashboard that was stretched and it did have the heating controls on the right hand side
He also got a weird version of a BMW Nazca M12 apparently. Under the folder "miscellaneous" there is the "AA Unknown Exotic Car". It's defenitly a Nazca or at least Nazca inspired car.
Bentley also had to put the label on it beacuase these were equiped with a Sultan exclusive Cosworth twin-turbo Verion of the 6.75 V8 producing over 500hp (in the early 90s!) btw. the Brunei commission of Continental Convertibles helped Bentley to produce the Azure
I was about to type out a comment about how these guys should do more videos of them sitting down and gawking over cars, and then I remembered, that’s just the podcast
The Mythos in Monaco is the original one. It was sold to a Japanese collector. The Royal Family in Brunei has 3 Mythos, a red one, a blue one and a purple one
lol. they prayed for help and it came in the shape of the sultan of brunai. -yes, certainly we can put the pictures out of your golf magazine on your dashboard, sir.
Albatross is a golf term that refers to a score of three strokes under par on a single hole. It is also known as a “double eagle.” In golf scoring, it's like the ultimate Golf score! 😂
One of my favorites is Bentley Continental R Supershort which is literally just a Continental R but just 4 inches shorter. I can just imaging being a few years into buying 3 cars a day and just thinking, “well I guess we could just make this one shorter” 🤣
The sultans of Brunei kind of customers are the reasons why manufacturers refuse to discount 5-10% off MSRP to people like me who think that “THEY” are at the end of the month and can’t wait to sell another car “below MSPR or invoice”…
Prince Jefri owned a Gold Coast mansion called Sunninghill (same neighborhood as the one the Russians own iirc) that was tied up in his court proceedings for a while, listed last year for 7.5 million with no mention of its colorful past in the ad. Be cool if some of the custom commissioned cars came with the house.
Kennan is the type of guy who spends Christmas with his m5 talking about another m5
