@@tiddybeeI only have so much time for podcasts and TH-cam videos as it is... There's becoming more and more quality content and I've got less and less time. There's very few channels which I never miss an upload from now and as time goes on that's spreading even thinner. I say that because TST boys were talking at length about why their view counts have fallen off a cliff in the last podcast and the biggest reason for me is their content quality next to the others now and how much time they waste on air wondering why people aren't watching as much. If they suck an hour of my week up with a video I'm not super interested in and the waffling on during the podcast, then I have to decide where that hour's getting spent and sadly they're dropping further and further down the list. I bring that up because I think TST is doomed, which sucks because I've been a fan for a long time. This podcast has taken the time allocation priority over them now, for me at least.
Doug I work for BMW AG. I invited you to the Museum in Greenville SC years ago. I can promise you this the 5 series room is for the tourists. We have a warehouse and a basement of cars that would blow your mind and technically a handful that "dont exist" .
Out of curiosity, on my next trip to Greenville... could something be arranged? LOL Fun fact for you: I actually work for the flag company that supplies a lot of the BMW plants and training centers around the country with their US, state, and Bavarian flags. We also did the flagpoles at the corporate office in Woodcliff Lake, NJ a few years ago
Right before they switch to the Cadillac story, at 13:15, it goes to normal. It was rather strange. At first, they all looked like they were on Ozempic.
these guys have been saying that it’s the end of the line for cool NA driver’s cars for so long that they’re actually disappointed that ferrari dropped a new 12😂
All you need to do is send a friendly email to BMW Classic to schedule a private tour of their collection and take a peek at the restoration workshop. You'll even get a complimentary cup of coffee and a nice keychain.
Fillipo rocking the Ray-Ban RB7047 glasses. Man of great tastes in regards to two door crossovers from the 90s and ophthalmic hardware. Real man's man.
Doug, I'm disappointed that you visited the LEAST of the manufacturer museums in Germany. You could have gone to Stuttgart, Ingolstadt or Neckarsulm for Mercedes, Porsche or Audi. You could have gone to Wolfsburg for the entire Volkswagen group AND factory tour. But instead you went to Munich for BMW?
I work at a Honda dealership, we have 5 Prologues and have had them for about a month. We have had 1 person interested in trading up from her Lincoln Navigator. Deal didn't go through..... We still have 5 Prologues.
Jaguar has won 4 engine awards, I bet 1 of them were for that f-type And obviously the 3 other for all the BMW engines they use that manage to blow up even faster that when in BMW cars 45:40
At 54:40 Doug says you'll get pulled over in Toronto (or anywhere in Ontario) for doing even just 3 km over the limit. No way!! People routinely do more than 15-20km/h over the limit on highway 401 all across the province.
I saw a Lordstown Endurance in my outer-ring Cleveland suburb the other week and it was the one time I've seen a vehicle recently that I've been dumbfounded by a car. I wished I could've gotten a picture of it, but it was a crazy spot in my book. Interesting to know that they were supposed to be crushed. Searching "endurance pickup truck" made me totally expect a GMC trying to sound tough.
We need more concept car content!! I'm with you guys on the Cadillac Cien as a halo car. It probably stood a better chance than the Sixteen, which was another gorgeous concept of the same time. I remember seeing the Cien more often in magazines and on covers, but I always felt that the Cadillac Sixteen would've been more realistic, and cooler to see go into production because it seemed to fit the ethos of what Cadillac always was from the 1920s on up. That plus it had a shiny, jawdropping V-16 under a unique hood.
I'm happy to hear about Doug's Trip and that he went to our fantastic BMW Museum here in Bavaria! Glad to hear he had a good time in my Area and would genuinely love to hear more about his Trip over here and especially see more Pictures of Cars he took. Because let's be honest, there is no way Doug went over here and didn't take a million Pictures of Cars! Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
Truly agree with the BMW museum experience. Was just there in March and it’s basically a large advertisement. Pales in comparison to the Mercedes museum.
To the topic of old german taxis: Taxis and Rental Cars need to have TÜV Inspektion every year instand of the normal period of two years so those things have to be looked after, at least if the TÜV is done right! 😅
I know it’s easy to ask being that I don’t have to supply or find it. But I’ve always been a fan of the XLR, and as a musician it would be a great car, minus gear hauling. I would love to see a review of the xlr!
I enjoyed the last question regarding what vehicle do you wish they made a performance version of. As someone who has too many dogs I wish there was a performance Minivan. A minivan with real handling improvements and hellcat/LS/coyote motor would be top of my list for next vehicle. I don't get people that get med-large crossovers, you should get the minivan since they are way more practical and no crossover is cool.
43:45 Doesn’t BMW do the same thing with the b38/b48/b58? Reuse the same 0.5L cylinder and just casts 3, 4 or 6 cylinder blocks? Didn’t Alfa/Ferrari did the same thing with the 690T v6 and F154 v8? Also if they can come up with a way to lower the cost without reliability compromise, I’m all for it!
I think the Cadillac Cien was used in 1 of the transformers movie, like how they used the 5th gen camaro before it came out. But the Cien never hit production.
Chevrolet did something very similar and produced two of the best engines, the 5.7 350 Vortec and the 4.3 V6 Vortec. The 4.3 is a 350 with two cylinders chopped off. Not known for a lot of power but run on forever on only hopes and dreams.
In a little box hahah OPP only put you in that box if you go over 150kph. Hypothetically my viper did double that on the 401. I currently have a 95 Supra. Go get one Doug it will make you smile driving it to the store!
BMW museum was great. Loads of F1 stuff, amazing place, inexpesnive, and they actually had an X5 LM while I was there. Really recommend it to any petrol head.

Another fun and strange engine fact: Lamborghini increased displacement by adding a spacer to their block to lengthen the stroke. Very strange and I can't imagine it not effecting reliability.

Toronto traffic laws aren't that bad! I regularly drive 15KM over the limit past police. On 400 series highways (equivalent to your Interstates) everyone drives 25KM over. If your caught going 50KM over the limit they can impound your car and suspend your license but you still own your car and you won't be sent to prison 😂
I had no idea I wanted a car podcast until Doug made one. Now I look forward to this every Friday.

Yeah, Smoking Tire (Tues/Thurs) and Carmudgeon (every Monday) are both great
Yeah, Carmudgeon is great too. Smoking tire is very hit and miss.

Doug and gang, love. This pod cast, keep going forever !! I am a huge fan who as seen everyone of Doug’s car reviews and bought my vehicle on C&B.
That W124 would likely be more comfortable in the back seat than the modern E-class.

You got a huge point tbh. I think Porsche would’ve only been moderately better decision and debatably Audi would’ve been as a bad of a deicison as bmw
